Stamp Objects Around A Circle Using Inkscape

- In previous tutorials I’ve gone over a method for duplicating objects around a circle where an object is rotated and stamped in multiple places. This is a really useful technique for any Inkscape user to know, and I’ve had a lot of people ask me how to do something like this in the past, so I feel like it deserves a tutorial of its own.
In this tutorial I’ll be demonstrating how you can duplicate objects around a circle using Inkscape. For this technique we’ll be using the Select Tool to rotate the object and stamp it in multiple place.
Want to learn more about how Inkscape works? Check out the Inkscape Master Class - a comprehensive series of over 50 videos where I go over every tool, feature and function in Inkscape and explain what it is, how it works, and why it's useful: logosbynick.com/inkscape/
Intro song: "In Da Mood" by Combustibles, used with written permission
in new inkscape you can also use path effect 'routate copies'. it's non destructive and you can set any number of copies around given point.
Thanks! I just wanted to ask how to evenly space n objects
But how can you do it around the circle?
They rotate around themselves
@@nikitamiroschnichenko560 you put the object somewhere on the perimeter and move center of rotation (of the 'rotate copies' effect) to the center of circle
@@olaff667 ok,thanks

Magic again Nick.
You are an excellent communicator and we really appreciate the work you put into these tutorials.
I am broke, like ready to declare bankruptcy broke, but I hope one day to be able to buy your master class to say thank you. For now, I will just continue watching the ads in the hope that it helps you in some small way. You are so easy to understand. Your instructions are so clear. I can't thank you enough.
I have been an Inkscape user for years and sort of consider myself an experienced user but I am always amazed about how I keep learning new tricks over and over again watching your videos, Nick. Sometimes I do know how to accomplish the same results but rarely as easily - or nearly as accurate - as with your methods. Thanks for your awesome videos and keep them coming!
me too... Great job Nick.

SUPER!
P.S.: Whenever I hear the vignette music coming, I already know that a good thing is coming. It reminds me of my childhood days in the 60s! When I saw LOTS of cartoons!
Can never get enough of your tutorials. Your teachings have proved invaluable in my own upcoming project, and it seems you've stepped up your video game as well. Can't wait for the next one.
Such a good channel. your tutorials are always so clear and easy to follow! thank you
3:13 If you need something other than 15°-increments (e.g. you want 10 copies at 36° steps), the Rotate tab in the Transform panel also respects the offset rotation centre. So basically after you have set up the centre and typed in the correct rotation angle, hit CTRL/D to make a copy, then click Apply to rotate the copy, CTRL/D and Apply again to rotate the copy of the copy, and so on until you complete the circle.
Game changer. Big thanks
Thanks
Thanks for that, perfect!
Thanks Nick, It is always interesting to follow your tutorial.
Love your videos and starting to feel more confident with using Inkscape. It's to the point where I'm saying your next move before you do it lol can't wait to start putting my designs to use!
Nick you an excellent presenter and a gift to your generation, many thanks as this is priceless

Always the best information out there. Thank you.
Again a very informative video. Despite these showcase videos demonstrate us what is possible with Inkspace, I want to learn more.
That's why I am right now enrolling your Design and also Inkspace courses. Thank you for the awesome content.
Very good video . I follow you . I'M a kid of 14 years and I make inkscape from your video. Love you from India👌👌👍👍
This is a super useful tutorial, I never knew about the snapping to the centre button.
Great tutorial as always, thank you. Just made a peacock feather ring. I find them very complementary to your masterclass. It's easier to search for a precise action on youtube and grasp it in seconds once you've acquired all the fundamentals in the masterclass.
You are amazing, thanks for all tutorials 👌🏻
I'm a woodworker, and this little trick makes it super easy to make clock faces. Thanks!!

O.K. Now this is something I did not know about... Thank you so much!
Very useful information!
Thank you Nick ❤️
Love this channel
Absolutely loved the video. I’m wanting to learn how to create simple patterns for wallet making that I can use to cut on a laser. I would be creating a basic rectangular design with rounded corners and adding a pocket at either end and then stitching holes that would line up with both the main panel and the pocket. My question is, do you already have a video(s) that you would suggest just showing those basic things or even better one specific for that? Subscribed! Thanks
Thank you very much.
Blow mind!! thanks bro
From what I notice, only if you are holding the left click on the object is that the spacebar stamp will work. If you just have the object selected, but no mouse down event (clicking and holding) on it, no stamps are made.
THANK YOU! Was going nuts.
This is a superior method to the commonly cited "Pattern along path" tool and the "Scatter" tool.
Thanks Nick!
brilliant thank you
Cool! Thanks a million man!
Thanks a lot Nick
Thanks nick 🙏
Wow ! We need more tutorial.
Fabuloso, gracias

Awesome Nick!! Your tutorials are so refined and on the point that it makes me believe as if I already know how to do it (Even though I haven't thought of it). I have been following your tutorials for years and your way of Explaining ways has influenced how I teach others in real life. Thank you for your awesome tutorials.
God send!
very helpful ty.
is there a way to animate image[or vector image] sequence frame by frame or to review it ??
The great command "repeat" in CorelDraw is great, but this technique is good too.
2:11 "Hold SHIFT and click on it". Thankyou, I was boring to manually CTRL-X and sert "0" in inkscape:transform-center-[x|y]. Thankyou!!!

Hi Nick, how to arrange random objects in as tight as possible but with spacing, i will use it to cut individual pieces of the objects so they will occupy a minimal space of material as possible
Hi nick, do you know how to pull text or images from a CSV and create multiple images from a template for POD designs. (with Inkscape, gimp, or affinity). Many thanks
ThankUUuuuuuuuuuuuu so much
Can you make a video showing us how to make an esports character, I have been having a lot of trouble making one, It would be great if you made a tutorial!!!!
I really want to create my own fonts. Can I do that in Inkscape? Are there any Inkscape tutorials that you would suggest for creating fonts?
Thank you nick you are the real hero.
didn't mention leaf once. respect.
you know any best free screen recoder laptop sir
Is there a way to have an image stamped around a circle and have the image rotate a certain number of degrees as each images progress around the circle effectively making a Phenakistoscope ?
there is an arrange command.
First, to create a leaf,
1. use pencil and ellipse shape to draw one(or whatever)
second, align,
1. keep pressing ctrl+d to copy the leaf until you are tired
2. select all leaves, goto object -> arrange, under rectangular grid, make them stack into either one column or one row, and adjust corresponding row spacing or column spacing, basically you want leaves to line up
3. group the leaves temporarily
4. create a circle with the radius of the alignment
5. put the circle at the center of the leaves lineup group, turn on snap object center to help
6. select all objects, and go to object -> arrange, under polar coordinate,
6.1. since now the circle and the leaves group has the same center, choose either objects' bounding boxes or objects' rotational center,
6.2. set arrange on last selected circle(or the first selected),
6.3 you might want to check the rotate object option
6.4 now click arrange and voila, you have leaves line up around around the circle perfectly
so what if i want to replicate a specific number and the same size i want to replicate in a bigger circle same quantity but spaced out as it's the same size? am i making sense? this tutorial was awesome...i've subscribed....will check if your other tutorials answer my question. thanks
Amazing tutorial maybe you can take a shortcut key in the screen Nick, thank you
From Indonesia
PLEASE!! Do a tutorial of how to do a carrousel for Instagram in Inkscape, thanks!!

I have seen most your vedios and those are matchless & I have seen your vedio about how to export file inkscape to AI file save etc I have one question how to increased DPI without changing size of vector. I will be very helpfull for me if you help me to solv this.
Pressing control locks the rotation in a 15deg angle.
But what if I want it to be 20deg angle?
If I create visiting card and in coral draw in print preview we can click 24 cards at a time by just clicking and also cut mark auto..is any possibility in this software.. thanks
Hello Nick, I am a regular viewer of your channel..I have a video idea for u.

is there way to increase the number of objects you are rotating ?
I use Inkscape right now for logodesign, but thinking of going to illustrator. Are there some advantages using illustrator instead of Inkscape, when designing logos? What do you think? 🙂
better using illustrator for work in studio or company. but in home inkscape or illustrator just same.
