The first route was a long one and I did find a zygarde cell but had issues collecting it due being at the end of the route so I still have 0. Niantic is unable to do anything about my issues so I’m avoiding routes for now.
Real players did the beta tests for these routes unfortunately…my brother and another friend of mine were testers BUT no one was told or explained what this feature was for so the routes everyone made were just random and made no sense. Another fail IMO by Niantic

That was insane!! I watched the whole video because you definitely earned it! I’m just surprised that you were able to actually complete the Route and it didn’t completely glitch out in the middle and you lost all of your progress. I created 4 Routes during the Riolu Hatch Day (that are still under review 5 days later) that are maybe a couple km. The one for Raid Hour is the longest and covers 8 gyms that are fairly close. All 4 of the Routes say 1100m and 22 mins. They are definitely not all the same length so obviously Niantic can’t calculate distance so I wasn’t surprised when you had to walk more than 20km to finish this one. I’m exhausted just watching this. 😪 It’s also absolutely criminal that you didn’t find a single Zygarde cell with all of that especially since you need 250 for the Complete form!
Here’s my experience with zygarde cells so far: -You need the zygarde cube to collect cells in routes. I did 5 routes (front and reverse routes back and forth) without picking up a single cell and picked up a cell as soon as I got the cube in my bag. -After 6 straight days of doing New York City routes, the first route of the day gives me the best chance of spawning a cell. First route of the day still won’t guarantee a zygarde cell spawn. -Length of route doesn’t affect the spawn rate of a cell. I did the whole length of Central Park which is a 4km route and it didn’t spawn a cell and I did a 500m route that spawned a cell. I prefer running shorter routes to get the completion rewards quicker. -A zygarde cell pickup can yield more than 1. Most I’ve gotten is 3 from a single pickup. I’m not sure if that’s the most cells you can pickup from a single one but right now I get 1-3 cells per pickup. -You can receive elite fast move and elite tm as a reward for finishing a route so they’re definitely worth grinding. I’ve completed ~20 routes so far and I’m at 18 zygarde cells. It’s a brutal grind for sure. Hope this helps!
Or do it in a similar way they did in Ingress where "missions"exist for 3+ years and work with minor flaws(if there is question to answer then it is hard). Idea is that path should consist of pokestops and gyms that you have to spin in certain order- so you have to be in spin radius for each pokestop but how exactly you follow there is up to you. Route marker can be there for guidence only. In Pokestop dense areas there could be rule that you don't choose pokestops to spin that are at least 50-100 meters apart so that if you accidentally spun them in wrong order you don't need to wait 5 minutes. In rural areas where there are not many pokestops you can still make a route as long as you have 3 POI- start, middle and finish (finish can be the same as start). Zygarde spawns should be definitely increase, I think at least 1-2 cell per every kilometer.
@@udajsthat sounds like a lot. but i do agree that the routes need a proper rework in the future. for now its not really worth it uk :( they NEED to fix the zcell spawn location doe all mine spawned in the very end. and two times the zcell spawned late and since i had to wait too see if i actually got one at all, gps drift got me. wich led the route to end, and zcell despawned :(
Suddenly feeling really grateful for the one, singular route I've been able to find locally that loops around a parking lot a couple of times. That route you did was torture, Zoe and you are a champion for completing it!
Been waiting for this video! Curious if it was worth it. I can't find a single route to test in my city at all. Even in the city centre - there was nothing. The option to create one isn't there. About the zygarde cells, i got them for my first 2 routes. Then i did a whole new route back to back and didn't get any cells. But when i went back and tried the same route a third time the same day, i got the cell. Usually the cell drop happens just a few meters before the end of the route. Niantic should introduce atleast a haptic feedback when the cell drops. For now, just keep an eye out for the shiny green blob near the route

And I agree niantic need to fix the routes. I was able to find one Zygarde cell at the end of my route, but before I could click on it, the animation of route complete popped up, and the cell disappeared. Oh, I was mad!
Especially here in downtown Osaka. It’s a huge flat city , moore like 45+ on the tarmac n 80% humidity…. 24/24 . Stops at the convenient store are like “smart bomb gifts “ 🥵😓😵💫
you’re a legend for doing this! I noticed that when I did the route near me with my Go++ on I saw no cells, but I did it again the next day and had my Go++ off to avoid eggs and I saw a zygarde cell. I’ve continued to do routes without my go++ on and 4 cells now. No idea if its correlated but I wouldn’t be surprised if theres an issue with these 2 new features interacting :(

I feel super bad for you on the one hand, but also slightly heartened that someone else is sharing my lack of shiny luck. This was a fantastic video and all the kudos for sticking with this ridiculous route to give the system the proper test that in our heart of hearts we know Niantic didn't come close to doing.

I know the pain of pushing yourself too far for this game. Original Swinub Community day I walked to a park I thought was "not that far" but didn't take into account also the walking around the park and the walk back. I was dead after that. You are a true champion for going through this route Zoë. Also Niantic needs to properly test features for a month or so before releasing them and having an event for them. I still have no routes near me, Blazing Trails or w/e is long done and I got none of the bonuses. Great job team.

As soon as I converted the 20 km to miles, I was like, "that's a no from me, boss." All the respect to you for completing not only the 20 km route but all the extra walking that you had to do just to get back on the route. If given the chance, I have a 4-5 km route that I would like to create. Even that's a tough one for me but I would do it to give people in my area a worthwhile route. Still, much respect to you for completing that monster.
the routes near me are 15minute walks. ITs gym to gym (1 route and reversible) then a whole street (2nd route and reversible). It ends/start on one gym going 2 different direction and i love it. I do those 2 routes back and forth for an hour.
That route is across the street from my office. I looked at it yesterday and thought about doing it myself, so thanks for testing it for us! 🙌🏻 10:13 BTW for this part, you can go underground. Namba Parks has a huge network of underground shopping areas.
Such a timely video. My boys and I tried to do a 2km route today and boy was it tough. After 3 restarts and having a GPS issue halfway we abandoned the route after an hour, mine totally crashed and told me to go to the start and we had some construction blocking part of the route... Frustrating and none of us actually finished... Disappointing! Ah least it wasn't 20km...! 😅
If you are going to Koyasan for sightseeing, please try walking the "Choishimichi" that runs from Jisonin Temple in Kudoyama Town to Koyasan. It's a mountain road of about 20km, but you'll encounter a number of PokéStops that you wouldn't expect from a mountain road. It is one of the pilgrimage routes that make up the World Heritage Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range, so if you are interested and have time. However, the route is probably not set yet.
My friend and I did a long route around a large park today. I don’t know how many kilometers it was but man did feel like forever, and I know it wasn’t nearly as long as your walk. We both thought we were going to die by the end, lol.
When first introduced I had many problems starting a route - cleared all game data fixed the issue (and the constant crashes). Longest route to date 2.4 km - zero Zygarde cells despite doing three routes/day for the last week.
Who ever made this route let the power of being able to make a route go to their head. I haven’t found a route yet here in Fort Worth and I’m fine with that. You’re a good player Zoe!

It's nice to the See the Feature works for you. Here in my City we have 1 Route created from me, but no one can Walk the Route. The Game actusally goes from Low to Low in huge steps. First year since Release i don't Go to a Go fest and Spend no Money anymore
If the route crashes for you, try turning off your adventure sync before starting your route. It helped me with my crash issues. 7:16 This is the exact bug that I've been facing for the past week or so, but turning Adventure Sync off reduces the number of times the route pauses. But keep looking at the top of the route for the pause button (||). Click it as soon as it appears or your distance will not be acknowledged. 32:01 Today thanks to the paused route bug, it took me 15 MINUTES just to walk a patch of 100 metres. I'd go further and then I had to come back and the funny part was that this bug occurred at the tail end of my 30-minute daily route today. Generally, I get that bug a few minutes in but after 25+ minutes of walking it is frustrating to unpause/walk back to the pause point when you know that you are halfway between where the route bugged out and the endpoint of the route. Also, just a heads up, you can work on your route badges just like gym badges or medals. |All the best for this route tomorrow ;) 35:45 Totally agreed but honestly, some of us (including me) submitted these routes way before we knew how Niantic will use them, if it will be our personal route or if they would be community routes (like how they are right now). Also, while creating the routes during the early access we didn't even know that we will have to follow the full route or if we could follow them partially. Thanks to Niantic's consistent lack of communication, we beta testers were completely in the dark outside a small email explaining that we could create the routes and we were not supposed to talk to anyone about them. Hopefully, the community will understand where we were when we created these routes.
From the beta angle I totally understand but this route had several illegitimate "roads" and paths (I didn't include all of them in the video) including a freeway style on ramp that is absolutely not safe for humans. Nothing against long routes or ones that are a bit clunky but this one was dodgy. Cheers for the top about adventure sync, I'll try that next time!
yep i like how after multiple controversies over the interaction distance in the game, they introduce a new feature that requires a greater level of accuracy than most phones' GPS can handle. they are legit doing this on purpose istg
Thank you for including your criticism through on this one. I have yet to be anywhere near a route, can't create one and have basically ignored the zygarde research since it dropped. I didn’t realise there were so many other issues with it either. I get you were tired and sore after 20km but it's nice to feel backed on the frustration of the dysfunctional nature of features not working. I feel so demotivated with this game lately.
Niantic got failed again to a new level. Introducing something that could work well, but is so broken and they approved things from spoofers. And then in 20km finding no cell, while for 250 cells or so will require walking over 6000km or something which people haven't walked in even 5 years of playing this game. Incompetent people there at Niantic, the game crashes etc.
No it was my fault, I actually got the egg on the first open but I didn't animate showing the egg. I should have checked before opening 😅 BUT YAY lucky friends!!

In regards to eggs, I would love for Niantic to make an automatic drop when you open gifts with an open spot. With egg shinies boosted for the new shiny releases and it being an egg that is what folks are wanting. It creates frustration when the eggs don’t drop and there are gift caps per day and a expiration date on the event. I know your egg issue was glitch, but I’ve experienced what you did with open egg spots. Great job on the route!!!
What a route! I've not come across any yet! I've recently moved from London to Scotland and still figuring out my switch to semi-rural from urban game play. However, one shiny yesterday! 4 today! Not the new ones though, although I got my second wingull so can now complete the family and chimeco from the daily incense that I rarely use. Hope your feet are not too sore!
I wish for events like this that are 7km specific we could open as many gifts as possible. I put so much money in for incubators and have actually enjoyed playing the past few days. Also being able to delete eggs we accidentally spun would be soooo nice.
The longest route I did was 2.4 km. The second longest I did was 1.3 km. I enjoyed walking the 1.3 route more that the 2.4 km route as it was much more safer. It was at a local university in town. The public can walk through It with no issues as long as it's not during school hours. There is another route I like doing that is around 748 meters at the university as well. I walk that one quite often.
There's one route near me, 600m long. My app crashes every 2 or 3 minutes on the route, and if I click on anything it crashes. It pauses when I restart so I reckon if I'd done that 20km walk the app would have crashed over 100 times, and I'd still be going past midnight. Oh and I've encountered one zygarde cell, clicked on it, got a 'got it' message, but it didn't register in my cube or on the research. I'm done with routes until Niantic fix it good and proper.
I’ve got about 20km into routes now, 3 different 1km routes in 3 parks near me - and so far no cells, but a lot more xp because I think I’m getting about the same rewards for each 1km route as you received for 20km - that’s a messed up reward system right there.
The routes should be reformatted, maybe to include specific pokestops to be spun in a specific order, and then also let the creator provide a suggested path which you have no obligation to strictly follow. But something tells me Niantic really wants to show off their ultra-precise geolocation tools lol
Imagine being a newer player in Japan and doing that route to only realise you gotta do it in reverse, and go back again just to get the three routes you need to complete the research. Yikes! Hope the devs work on this new routes idea and add some newer features like, Z Axis information as well as total route division save points so that longer routes can't crash out and lose data. As for the Zygarde cells, they need to have a frequent guarantee at certain points of a route as opposed to being completely random for different trainers at best. If it's meant to be a walking grind like eggs, at least set a point at which the player is rewarded for their efforts.

I know the feeling Zoe. I had 2 re-walk a 1,446km route THRICE. The first mistake was because it paused my route and I didn't realize it because of how bright and sunny it was today. The 2nd one was because I forgot to start the route. My fault, but OMG, throw me a bone, LOL.
Hey, kudos for the perceverance! I Live in Kyoto and I've tried a few 1 km routes in Osaka, and my experience with routes in Osaka has been by and large disappointing, with most of them going underground or inside buildings and the GPS or the game can't keep up with the drift, pausing them all the time and we can't properly resume them. Around Umeda/Osaka Station, GPS drifts a lot and the routes are obviously drifting too, I can't understand how such routes even got approved. Kyoto has fewer but more stable routes, with nice walks, btw, I recommend you check out! I hope I can see you around here or in Osaka!

all of the haphazard implementation of routes aside (there has been code for routes in the game for 2 years, how is the actual implementation this bad?) aside, niantic did one thing right. the aurora in the catch screen is present in ar mode too (regular ar, no idea about ar+). we can have aurora borealis, at this time of day, at this time of year, in this part of the country, localised entirely within our kitchens
I was hoping temps would be better for you. We're getting similar 40°C + temps here too, with high humidity so the heat index is even higher. I don't know Japan's forecast, but here we have a solid wall of heat stroke warnings for the whole forecast period. Please stay safe out there. These temps are no joke.

I somehow got the route feature a couple of weeks it was rolled out. I didn’t know what it was but I submitted 7 routes around my city. Since the feature has been live for everyone, I am no longer able to submit any routes. I have followed my routes every day and found 1 Zygard cell 😒
You know what I’d like? For Niantic staff to go out in real conditions and test their new features. We players shouldn’t be the beta testers!

a marathon is 26km or more and zoe did a 20km but her total steps are 26km+ so she did pretty much a full marathon

The reward for completing the 20km route was the same as I got for finishing a 1km, that's insane. It should be ~20 times more.

The 1100m thing is a known issue; one of my routes is 1620m, but it's listed as 1100m on the description. This freakin' company, man...

20km is 12 miles, that is a LOT for most folks 😂 in 100º? That is crazy, even I wouldn’t do that, and I walk about 10-15 miles daily 😂
It's about 1.6km per mile walked.
I try and walk between 6-9km per day roughly 4-6 miles for health purposes

I feel super bad for you on the one hand, but also slightly heartened that someone else is sharing my lack of shiny luck. This was a fantastic video and all the kudos for sticking with this ridiculous route to give the system the proper test that in our heart of hearts we know Niantic didn't come close to doing.

I know the pain of pushing yourself too far for this game. Original Swinub Community day I walked to a park I thought was "not that far" but didn't take into account also the walking around the park and the walk back. I was dead after that. You are a true champion for going through this route Zoë.
Also Niantic needs to properly test features for a month or so before releasing them and having an event for them. I still have no routes near me, Blazing Trails or w/e is long done and I got none of the bonuses. Great job team.

As soon as I converted the 20 km to miles, I was like, "that's a no from me, boss." All the respect to you for completing not only the 20 km route but all the extra walking that you had to do just to get back on the route. If given the chance, I have a 4-5 km route that I would like to create. Even that's a tough one for me but I would do it to give people in my area a worthwhile route. Still, much respect to you for completing that monster.

the routes near me are 15minute walks. ITs gym to gym (1 route and reversible) then a whole street (2nd route and reversible). It ends/start on one gym going 2 different direction and i love it. I do those 2 routes back and forth for an hour.
That route is across the street from my office. I looked at it yesterday and thought about doing it myself, so thanks for testing it for us! 🙌🏻

Such a timely video. My boys and I tried to do a 2km route today and boy was it tough. After 3 restarts and having a GPS issue halfway we abandoned the route after an hour, mine totally crashed and told me to go to the start and we had some construction blocking part of the route... Frustrating and none of us actually finished... Disappointing!

If you are going to Koyasan for sightseeing, please try walking the "Choishimichi" that runs from Jisonin Temple in Kudoyama Town to Koyasan. It's a mountain road of about 20km, but you'll encounter a number of PokéStops that you wouldn't expect from a mountain road.
It is one of the pilgrimage routes that make up the World Heritage Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range, so if you are interested and have time.
However, the route is probably not set yet.

My friend and I did a long route around a large park today. I don’t know how many kilometers it was but man did feel like forever, and I know it wasn’t nearly as long as your walk. We both thought we were going to die by the end, lol.

When first introduced I had many problems starting a route - cleared all game data fixed the issue (and the constant crashes). Longest route to date 2.4 km - zero Zygarde cells despite doing three routes/day for the last week.

It's nice to the See the Feature works for you. Here in my City we have 1 Route created from me, but no one can Walk the Route. The Game actusally goes from Low to Low in huge steps. First year since Release i don't Go to a Go fest and Spend no Money anymore

If the route crashes for you, try turning off your adventure sync before starting your route. It helped me with my crash issues. 7:16 This is the exact bug that I've been facing for the past week or so, but turning Adventure Sync off reduces the number of times the route pauses. But keep looking at the top of the route for the pause button (||). Click it as soon as it appears or your distance will not be acknowledged. 32:01 Today thanks to the paused route bug, it took me 15 MINUTES just to walk a patch of 100 metres. I'd go further and then I had to come back and the funny part was that this bug occurred at the tail end of my 30-minute daily route today. Generally, I get that bug a few minutes in but after 25+ minutes of walking it is frustrating to unpause/walk back to the pause point when you know that you are halfway between where the route bugged out and the endpoint of the route. Also, just a heads up, you can work on your route badges just like gym badges or medals. |All the best for this route tomorrow ;) 35:45 Totally agreed but honestly, some of us (including me) submitted these routes way before we knew how Niantic will use them, if it will be our personal route or if they would be community routes (like how they are right now). Also, while creating the routes during the early access we didn't even know that we will have to follow the full route or if we could follow them partially. Thanks to Niantic's consistent lack of communication, we beta testers were completely in the dark outside a small email explaining that we could create the routes and we were not supposed to talk to anyone about them. Hopefully, the community will understand where we were when we created these routes.
From the beta angle I totally understand but this route had several illegitimate "roads" and paths (I didn't include all of them in the video) including a freeway style on ramp that is absolutely not safe for humans. Nothing against long routes or ones that are a bit clunky but this one was dodgy. Cheers for the top about adventure sync, I'll try that next time!

Thank you for including your criticism through on this one. I have yet to be anywhere near a route, can't create one and have basically ignored the zygarde research since it dropped. I didn’t realise there were so many other issues with it either. I get you were tired and sore after 20km but it's nice to feel backed on the frustration of the dysfunctional nature of features not working. I feel so demotivated with this game lately.

Niantic got failed again to a new level. Introducing something that could work well, but is so broken and they approved things from spoofers. And then in 20km finding no cell, while for 250 cells or so will require walking over 6000km or something which people haven't walked in even 5 years of playing this game. Incompetent people there at Niantic, the game crashes etc.

In regards to eggs, I would love for Niantic to make an automatic drop when you open gifts with an open spot. With egg shinies boosted for the new shiny releases and it being an egg that is what folks are wanting. It creates frustration when the eggs don’t drop and there are gift caps per day and a expiration date on the event. I know your egg issue was glitch, but I’ve experienced what you did with open egg spots. Great job on the route!!!
What a route! I've not come across any yet! I've recently moved from London to Scotland and still figuring out my switch to semi-rural from urban game play. However, one shiny yesterday! 4 today! Not the new ones though, although I got my second wingull so can now complete the family and chimeco from the daily incense that I rarely use. Hope your feet are not too sore!

I wish for events like this that are 7km specific we could open as many gifts as possible. I put so much money in for incubators and have actually enjoyed playing the past few days. Also being able to delete eggs we accidentally spun would be soooo nice.
The longest route I did was 2.4 km.
The second longest I did was 1.3 km.
I enjoyed walking the 1.3 route more that the 2.4 km route as it was much more safer. It was at a local university in town. The public can walk through It with no issues as long as it's not during school hours. There is another route I like doing that is around 748 meters at the university as well. I walk that one quite often.

There's one route near me, 600m long. My app crashes every 2 or 3 minutes on the route, and if I click on anything it crashes. It pauses when I restart so I reckon if I'd done that 20km walk the app would have crashed over 100 times, and I'd still be going past midnight. Oh and I've encountered one zygarde cell, clicked on it, got a 'got it' message, but it didn't register in my cube or on the research. I'm done with routes until Niantic fix it good and proper.
I’ve got about 20km into routes now, 3 different 1km routes in 3 parks near me - and so far no cells, but a lot more xp because I think I’m getting about the same rewards for each 1km route as you received for 20km - that’s a messed up reward system right there.
The routes should be reformatted, maybe to include specific pokestops to be spun in a specific order, and then also let the creator provide a suggested path which you have no obligation to strictly follow. But something tells me Niantic really wants to show off their ultra-precise geolocation tools lol

Imagine being a newer player in Japan and doing that route to only realise you gotta do it in reverse, and go back again just to get the three routes you need to complete the research. Yikes! Hope the devs work on this new routes idea and add some newer features like, Z Axis information as well as total route division save points so that longer routes can't crash out and lose data. As for the Zygarde cells, they need to have a frequent guarantee at certain points of a route as opposed to being completely random for different trainers at best. If it's meant to be a walking grind like eggs, at least set a point at which the player is rewarded for their efforts.

I know the feeling Zoe. I had 2 re-walk a 1,446km route THRICE. The first mistake was because it paused my route and I didn't realize it because of how bright and sunny it was today. The 2nd one was because I forgot to start the route. My fault, but OMG, throw me a bone, LOL.
There's absolutely no way I could put myself through that with that heat HAHA. At that 2km hiccup, i woulda gotten so frustrated and hot and gave up
Hey, kudos for the perceverance! I Live in Kyoto and I've tried a few 1 km routes in Osaka, and my experience with routes in Osaka has been by and large disappointing, with most of them going underground or inside buildings and the GPS or the game can't keep up with the drift, pausing them all the time and we can't properly resume them. Around Umeda/Osaka Station, GPS drifts a lot and the routes are obviously drifting too, I can't understand how such routes even got approved. Kyoto has fewer but more stable routes, with nice walks, btw, I recommend you check out!

You are doing so well with this route Zoe, I am doing a one million step challenge over 3 months to raise money for Diabetes Uk, and my best distance so far is 10km in one 3 hour walk, you deserve so much respect for your hard work

all of the haphazard implementation of routes aside (there has been code for routes in the game for 2 years, how is the actual implementation this bad?) aside, niantic did one thing right. the aurora in the catch screen is present in ar mode too (regular ar, no idea about ar+). we can have aurora borealis, at this time of day, at this time of year, in this part of the country, localised entirely within our kitchens

I was hoping temps would be better for you. We're getting similar 40°C + temps here too, with high humidity so the heat index is even higher. I don't know Japan's forecast, but here we have a solid wall of heat stroke warnings for the whole forecast period. Please stay safe out there. These temps are no joke.

I somehow got the route feature a couple of weeks it was rolled out. I didn’t know what it was but I submitted 7 routes around my city. Since the feature has been live for everyone, I am no longer able to submit any routes. I have followed my routes every day and found 1 Zygard cell 😒
