Love this technique. I just finished my first whip & it came out pretty sweet. I used an all black reflective paracord and did a 4 foot snake whip. I just added 6 inches to all your measurements for the 3 foot snake whip.

Have you tried the English eye end? Took me a couple attempts to wrap my head around it being plaited backwards but I love the ease of changing out falls!

Hey Nick, I’m making a 3 foot snakewhip,I don’t want to use electrical tape to secure the strands left to make the taper and don’t have access to artificial sinew. Would the inner strands from paracord work?

Sorry I’m late to the party. Just found the joys of whip making. Does anyone know if the cord needs ta vine longer before feline this style of finish ? Especially with the fall inbuilt ? I am halfway through one and just found this clip. Wonder is I could do it on the end of the standard NWS 6foot bullwhip ?

You can do a twisted fall and still do a four point tie on which gives you the ability to change the fall out when you need to replace fall
You just take a 30” piece of paracord and fold in half hooking center on hock and begin your twist tie off when completed
Slip loop over your four strands of whip and tie on as you normally would do

Hi Nick, I've finished a couple of whips with a tapered twist but the dropped strands tend to come adrift after some time. Then end up with ugly melting trying to make them stay in place. So the jury is still out whether I keep doing it or do a fall hitch. hmmm

Hi David, try flaring the strand out before you melt. Helps a lot!

It looks beautiful but the thing is it can't replace it like a normal fall

I could answer most of your questions. I know it's been ten months so you prolly figured it out. If not though, I've been making my own for years so feel free to ask anything

Thanks Nick! Your tutorials always put a smile on my face! I think this is literally the first video tutorial on a tapered twist. BTW - I'm not trying to discredit your work, but I think Adam has a video on tying a fall to the two strand tapered twist. Here's the link, let me know if it applies. ua-cam.com/video/H657TarsRbg/v-deo.html

I agree Ethan. I saw that video a long time ago, but was sort of confused. Nick's video is was more well done. I just like the idea of attaching falls, doing what Nick did with the attached fall just sets off a little red flag in my head. But that's my opinion.

It just occurred to me that cam cleats may be a good alternative to a vise at least for securing the smaller parts of the thong.
