    I have made only three whips so far, and I already have a system for keeping the strand untangled, and its so simple. I place a chair to each side of the vice, about 2 foot away, with the back of the chair. Each pass all the strands to the right get "left" over the right chair back, and all the strands to the to the left get pulled over the back of the left chair back. This forces you to unfurl the strand on each pull, and also, there is more distance for them to fall to the floor, and there is less length for them to tangle by. On the 16 plait, I also separate the "up" strands from the "down" strands on each side, and this makes pulling the left easy to do because now you have a free hand to wrap the strands into the "down" position when you pull the new strand over them.

    Hello. I have a question. please notice this comment .
    So i've been doing this pattern and i may have encountered a problem.
    I followed the 16plait to 14 plait easily and was doing under 4 over 3 when i transitioned to 14 plait. But when i transitioned to 12 plait from 14 plait i was doing under over 2 then so on and so fort and i ended up messing my pattern. Please help? Or am i doing this right? Cause i know it felt wrong when i reached under 4 over 1.

      @@NicksWhipShop okay I watched that video as well. That's what I was thinking but I was keeping the know in the back. I bring my cords from the back and do that main overlap before I start plaiting. So just make sure the two colours are on top of each other on 1 side.

    hey nick, you said this whip was overlayed with gold? Is it my eyes or did the wax change the color of the gold to a grey silver? i recently waxed a blue grey and black whip but the grey went 3 times darker the moment it hit the wax. if that's what happened im glad it did, looks great!!! my grey mishap didn't work out so well. my lord does it crack tho=)

      you are absolutely correct Sidney! Some paracords don't take on wax well, and sometimes the darker colors are known to get extremely dark after a wax.

    hey Nick, i have a suggestion. instead of cutting the four longest strands separately and then joining together the two pairs of different colors, how about this: cut a single length (eg 29'+24'= 53' - from the list of overlay strands in this video) of one color, and a single length (eg 29'+22'= 42') of the other color and then tie them together (with a single reef knot) 29' from the ends of both lengths. this can be done will all or any set of four strands. you can use a box knot if you want the colors to alternate, and you can adjust which ends to measure from to switch the drop order.
    (you could also use 29'+29'=58' & 24'+22'=46' joined at 29' & 22' from the ends, respectively if you want the longest ones to be the same color)

      OK, thanks so much for the reply. I bought already waxed dacron material, that actually sticks on itself. Makes it much easier to handle. I believe it is originally used for tying together cable harnesses in the aircraft industry.

    • @CademanProductions
      @CademanProductions 8 років тому +1

      Also, I've been noticing that my plaiting looks great and really tight on the front, but the back is looser and not as tight. The "v's" seem too obtuse. Rolling helps a bit but I don't know how to get it more symmetrical. Any tips? Thanks!

    • @striker8paints
      @striker8paints 8 років тому

      CademanProductions I had the same problem when I made my first whip. in my case it was caused by my pulling the platte tight horizontal to the core instead of pulling it toward the backside. once I focused on pulling the strands towards the back side as if I was going to wrap them around instead of just pulling out to the left and right the pattern straightened out.

    • @CademanProductions
      @CademanProductions 8 років тому

      So pulling it up instead of to the side? Thanks!

    • @striker8paints
      @striker8paints 8 років тому

      CademanProductions , you need to pull back and around the previous belly and or core. say if your whip is in a vice horizontal to the floor. you'll want to pull down towards the floor and back towards the heel of the whip at the same time, or back around the whip and towards the heel if you have the whip at an angle. another way to envision how to do it is if you grab your cords right up against the thong and roll your hands around and towards the heel with your hands crossing slightly on the back side.

    Hello Nick! So I made my first whip, with electrical tape binding, about a month ago, and that one turn out well. I showed it to a few of my friends, and one said he'd pay me to make one. So I made his (6' 16 plait), but I used sinew and nylon tread to bind it, as well as the floor mat stuff to strengthen the transition. It turned out great! Now I'm thinking about making another, but this time I want to make a 12' 16 or 18 plait bull whip. The problem is that; I don't know the lengths for the strands. I've seen your conversion video from a couple years ago, but it's only for 12 plait. I've also gone to your site and looked at strand length, but they are hard to understand, having more than 8 strand lengths in a 16 plait overlay and being staggered in a weird way. I love your videos and I'd love if you could help me with this predicament.

    The thickness of handle must be perfect for plating to fit all the way around evenly ,no bigger than ? Around for 12 plat my whip is bigger around then tapers 12 don't work for for big stuff,I need I imagine 18 plat for 1 1/2 handle,just buy a 400 dollar whip and no messing around,unless you are in jail,whip making sucks ,too much trail and error,never get a perfect whip,if ya do it won't last carry long
