    1.Throw close range
    2.Keep both hands by chin
    3.Throw with entire body
    4.Keep the hook arm bent through entire R.O.M
    5.Throw from a squared stance, avoid over rotating

    Hey Shane,
    What do you think of throwing a hook with the palm down, anything wrong with it? I was taught that it's safer for your wrist that way.
    I sprained my wrist throwing it the traditional way when my fist was wasn't flush on the bag and slipped against the bag and jammed my wrist.

    • @zuhailishufller8046
      @zuhailishufller8046 7 років тому

      Eric Goldstein won't that hurt your wrist more because it puts your arm in an awkward positions and reduce the power of the hook a bit

    • @CenturianEagle
      @CenturianEagle 6 років тому +2

      Eric Goldstein he literally explains this in the video. He said he likes to go palm down if he’s at a further distance, and palm in if it’s close, and if it’s really damn far then he likes to turn it completely over like a fedor/chuck Liddell overhand. It depends on you. Do whatever you like best for now.

    Great video for beginners, I didn’t learn anything from the video that I didn’t already know, besides maybe that I didn’t need to pivot the back foot on the cross, Pivoting that foot on the cross at this point for me is not something I ever even come close to thinking about, but I know I do it. I believe it though, makes sense that you don’t have to do it, I always kind of felt people over analyze that twisting part, cigarette-outting thing, it’s probably just a cue for beginners as you said. But this would have been very helpful for me when I started so many years ago, so despite not learning anything I at least know this is a good channel now. Keep up the good work, you’re a good teacher.

    Thanks for the tips about the hand position. I find combos difficult to land hooks when we mix the combo with kicks requiring some distance. The hooks didn’t feel comfortable being further from the bag now I know why. It has to do with the angle of my hand up close vs further way. Thank you.

    A few questions I have:
    1. Is it ok to drop the hand I'm doing the punch with to generate more power? I tend to naturally do this but it seems to not slow me down.
    2. Where should the punch stop?

      45th President of The United States of America (1) test it out in sparring. If you can still land things without it compromising your defence why not (2) go 'through' the target but ensure to return to guard. I like to think of punches as like whips. They don't go through targets then linger, they snap right back

      oh hell no never drop your opposite hand what's your goal? getting knocked out? always have one hand in defense always.

      @Jewshwa My opposite hand? No, I clearly said the hand I'm performing the punch with

      ok i misread but still no u should not dropping your hand takes up more time and leaves u open for counters and other attacks when u punch it's not about power all the time more about speed Shane has posted lots of videos about this go search up like "fighttips is power better than speed" or something

      Shiraz Hussain what’s funny is I just thought he looked like my friend (who’s passed away recently so maybe this is a contributing kind of.. biased factor, since you know, they say when a good friend dies you’ll kind of see their faces everywhere) but that friend I thought he resembled, I used to say he looked like the way Anakin from the clone wars cgi show looked.

      Just be glad you're not one of the guys who 'went to the ground', because that's where they stayed. Not that _exact_ same piece of ground, obviously, unless they just happened to be fighting in a cemetery not far from one of their homes. Extremely unlikely.
