    Long form, hour long videos are the best for those that want to learn. That short stuff youtube algorithms keep pushing is destroying attention spans and how we consume information. When you teach I sit down and listen no matter how long it is for a simple reason, you provide VALUE and aren’t trying to sell a personality to brands and corporations. I still go back and watch the early videos just to make sure its engrained in my head forever

    • @IAmValenwind
      @IAmValenwind Рік тому +12

      Dude, Socrates said literacy was destroying attention spans:
      "For this invention will produce forgetfulness in the minds of those who learn to use it, because they will not practice their memory. Their trust in writing, produced by external characters which are no part of themselves, will discourage the use of their own memory within them. You have invented an elixir not of memory, but of reminding; and you offer your pupils the appearance of wisdom, not true wisdom, for they will read many things without instruction and will therefore seem [275b] to know many things, when they are for the most part ignorant and hard to get along with, since they are not wise, but only appear wise."
      short form or long form, in the forum or on a phone's screen, "Jack and Jill" or "War and Peace", "Thug Notes" or "Masterpiece Theater", learning is still learning, and it is ALL beneficial to those who choose to learn. It is not that the short form is destroying attention spans, it is more suited to those who cannot focus on the long form- whether it is from ADHD making concentration difficult for the child, a busy family life that draws the young adult away, or the daily aches and pains of waking up distracting the thoughts of those getting their first grey hair...
      what matters is not the form that the education takes, but that it can reach the right ears, for what good is a long form video, no matter the quality, to a person with a neurological condition that will not permit him watch it? what good is a short form video, no matter the quality, to a person with an ego that will not permit him to watch it? neither do anyone any good, for they fall on the wrong ears... that which is limited by nature, and that which is limited by choice. ...and the same can be said for the reverse, as well.

      @@IAmValenwind They both have their place but platforms built around addicting consumers to short-form videos are destroying attention spans. This is just a fact. Look up the neuroscience on this. Context-switching constantly over and over and over and over and over is training the brain to become addicted to the dopamine spike and to seek it out endlessly. This is no where near the effect that books have. Books draw you in deeply and engage deeper activity in the brain compared to internet browsing or social media like tiktok/instagram/twitter etc.

      @@IAmValenwind i would argue that the shorter videos are made more so for entertainment and have very little if anything at all you can learn from it. Conversely, the videos you learn something from tend to be longer and more in depth. Lastly shorter videos (mainly shorts) do lower your attention span, its been proven.

    I could just cry with relief. I had so much pain in my shoulder and simultaneously no snap in my hook at all. I listened carefully to your explanation, especially the part about that stretch in the shoulder and after one day of working with it my shoulder doesn't hurt anymore and I can see a path to improvement. Great video. I’ve been boxing for just under a year and I’ve noticed my shoulders are hurting more now because I’m hitting with proper technique and a lot more power. They were hurting when I first started but i got used to that. Like you say it takes a while for your body to adjust. I do the power drill you mentioned (George Foreman) I stand at close range head almost touching the bag with a more squared stance and rip the shots in. Its helped me to remove whipping the arms to deliver the punch.

I started going to a high intensity interval training workout that combines heavy bag with floor exercises, which is great fun and rather tough, but it doesn't allow for much time to get the technique right, so I've kind of been swinging all over the place. I’m 215 pounds and I’m starting to develop a dad body due to a lack of working out and working a lot of extra hours at my job. Do you think you could get me back in shape? I boxed as a teenager but haven’t even wrapped my hands in years. I’d be starting at square 1. Tell me what you think please.
