The vocalist said in a interview that some of the songs on the Heaven side were initially written for other artists. I wonder if this is one of them

I'm both loving hearing Sum 41 again and sad that it's their last go.
You said it's like MGK's because its "over produced". Deryck loves adding many layers and channels. He is actually the first one to apply this approach to pop punk and it later became sort of popular in post hardcore/power pop bands in the 2010s.
The instruments remind me of Bloody Valentine by MGK
I thought when I first heard it that the verse instrumentals sound like Bloody Valentine and the chorus instrumental sounds like Forget Me Too
That's instantly what I thought of
Imo Heaven:x:Hell is an absolutely incredible album. The Heaven side is some of the best stuff they've put out in their career where the Hell side for me hits well with most tracks, but some feel a bit samey, but that could also be because they've done so much more metal stuff in the past compared to pop punk. Some of my favourites on the album are Landmines, Radio Silence and Over The Edge
Definite MGK vibes in the verses, specifically Kiss Kiss i think, melody sounds very similar. Love the chorus on this song though!
Funny enough, Normandie's new album is called Dopamine and in the album cd, there's a picture of "The Dopamine Clinic" 😅
I absolutely hear MGK' TTMD in this song, wonder if he helped write it..?

I really like this song and the whole album in general! Whilst I’m really sad that they are splitting up I’m glad that Deryck got healthy and is still going and kicking ass!

Everyone is only reacting to this song and it's good but there are way better songs on the album. Listen to Stranger In These Times and You Wanted War

A couple of the songs on Heaven definitely gave me MGK vibes right away.
Overall, im loving this album.
It’s solid but their first 3 albums are untouchable. You guys should react to “Warzone” by Stand Atlantic!!
Meh. AKNF is just an meh Album. Has not much to offer, some fine songs, mostly forgetable. People like it cause of nostalgia. DTLI is very good, but repetetive, Chuck sounds way too much like Metallica and Linkin Park. Just listen to Bitter End or I'm not the One...the whole Album is like that.
Screaming Bloody Murder is their best work. And their newer Albums are all on the same level as DTLI, Chuck or UH.

"That sounds like classic Sum 41" - This isn't a knock, but I feel this new revival wave has really caused this fogginess over what early-mid '00's pop-punk actually sounded like. This song would never have made it onto a Sum -41 album from Half Hour through to Underclass Hero. It is way closer related to MGK than their early work, especially vocally. If anything this closer relates to the songs Deryck was writing for Avril than his own bands early catalog. All that said, really dig the song and as always enjoyed your takes on it. I find it incredibly ironic that the dislike for MGK the man has cause such hatred for his revival albums when the same people that detest those albums then say how much they love songs that sound like they could have been a b-side to those 2 albums, and how this is it done right. Keep up the good work, lads.

Landslides and Dopamine are actually two of the weaker songs off their Heaven album imo
This DOES sound like classic Sum 41 tho, the drums, the strumming on guitars, the melodies, everything has that classic pop punk sound, and i LOVE that

Sum41 died right after Steve O left the band. Chuck was their last good ALBUM.
