    Hi There Mentour
    Yes my son is now enjoying flying with easyjet on his mpl licence, it was tough for him because he had to go to spain while covid was strong here to get his base training done and then wehen he started with easyjet he had to do more base training but he is now actually in the right hand seat on various routes on the A320 and loving every minute of it.
    many thanks for asking

      @@LBozo_lolhey - I applied but cancelled my spot - a basic level of mathematics and physics and required, and you also have to complete their personality questionnaire. The ADAPT tests include: Fuel burn calculations, speed distance time, NO calculator. It is not particularly challenging. However, given the current climate you should steer FAR away from this course. CAE have majorly screwed up, and have taken up too many cadets with too few instructors and aircraft availability. Reportedly cadets are being sent home midway through their Core flight phase in Arizona and the 18-20 month duration course advertised is taking upwards of 2.5-3 years. Not to mention, there are NO guaranteed jobs. you are not with easyJet until you have a) passed the interview post training (incredibly misleading on their website to state cadets will definitely start with EZY) and b) you pass the final line check.
      If EZY decide, due to budget cuts they don’t want you, they do not have to take you and you are left with an almost useless license. Very very few airlines with G reg aircraft are taking on MPLs, and even so they require a specific amount of flight time, unlikely to have been achieved in that course. We’ve seen during COVID cadets being dropped like flies with no definitive pathaway with EZY, leaving cadets way out of pocket. Please take our advice and go modular.

    Very helpful video mentour!! But you said that you are not able to work in other airlines with your mpl license. But as I have researched there are some airlines that offer additional training berfore hiring the pilots and after that the pilots can start working using their mpl license in another airlines. And once you have flown 1500 hours you can change your mpl to atpl.

    Hi Mentour,
    In fact I was off to get in touch with you regarding MPL which is being conducted by many of the major airlines across the world. Thanks for the useful video.
    I'm an Indian citizen working in Singapore as a Software Engineer for past 4 years. Started my career in IT, as I always wanted to self fund for my pilot training. I'm looking forward to enroll CPL training in USA or Australia by this year end. However, based on my discussions with couple of Airline Pilots, I was advised to go for Indigo Airlines' Cadet Pilot Program which is to obtain MPL(Indigo - One of the leading airlines' in India and not anticipating any economical issues in forthcoming years). However, the cost involved in the training is relatively very high than doing a CPL followed by A320/B737 type rating. Despite of having a secured job at the end of successful MPL trainig, one negative side is that only respective citizens are encouraged to apply for MPL, and in India we unfortunately have only Indigo Airlines who came up with Cadet Program and it's very tough to get the selection after extensive screening out of thousands of candidates. Appreciate if you can advice which one I should prefer.
    Thanks
    Pranav

    I never knew that MPL is different from ATPL! Thank you for your video! I just have a question: after completing 1500 hours will my MPL license become an ATPL? And, do airlines accept it?

      you must apply for an ATPL after reaches 1500 hours. When you get an ATPL, it is just the same as a regular ATPL but with one restriction: you may only fly multi crew.

    As for ATC interaction problems, what do you think of services such as PilotEdge and VATSIM? I've been a sim pilot for a while before starting my real-world training, so on my first real flight I handled the radios myself, because it was really an "old hat" for me.

    • @totoritko
      @totoritko 9 років тому

      ***** They're ATC simulation networks which you plug into with your sim, along with other pilots and ATC. It's essentially a massive online world. VATSIM is world-wide and free, but ATC coverage isn't guaranteed. PilotEdge is pay-to-use (fairly cheap though) and only covers southern California, but ATC coverage is guaranteed, controllers highly trained and they follow regulations 100% "by the book" (in fact, they advertise themselves first and foremost as a real-world training network).

    hellow Captain wonderful videos as always with lots of information and hard work put in . I'd like to add some things if is possible to help us on what way to follow without making mistake :
    I' ve attended in milan at the Mariott hotel en explanation of MPL program available by Easy Jet and they said that once you've passed their training you go through an holding pool waiting for job by them, generally this takes about from 1 to max 6 month .The important thing is if you suddenly you can't continue the training for any reason they give you back all your money except 5'000 £ , so that's a good thing.
    the bad thing as you've said is that your airline in which your are training to, has an economic problem an they can't afford to you a job you can't apply to any other company.
    that's all, have a nice day and waiting for other interesting podcasts as usual captain !!

      Yes but it has a multi-crew restriction, so you couldn't - for example - hire a cessna for the day and fly it by yourself.
      You can only fly for your airline, on the aircraft you are type rated on, unless you go out and get a PPL afterwards

    Hey Mentour, I got a question.
    I live in Australia and is aspiring to be an airline pilot some day. My question is: what kind of pilot's license would you need to be an airline pilot? A Commercial Pilot's License (or with an instrument rating)? Or an Air Transport Pilot's License?
    I'm just confused as to what kind of license I would need to be able to be employed as an airline pilot.
    Thanks in advance.

    • @simonev.2121
      @simonev.2121 9 років тому

      +Mentour Pilot Thanks that's an important information. So let's say that if the specific airline you're getting trained to work for does not incur in economic issues, or stop recruiting from the mpl cadet pool in the meanwhile you're getting trained there shouldn't be any concern. As soon as you finish successfully your training and start logging on hours you're "safe". Then, once reached 1500h you can get your ATPL license issued and joined whatever airline you desire. It is a little bit like the atpl frozen and unfrozen, except that in this case ti have a frozen atoll (or mpl) involve also not being able to apply for any other company.

    • @smygarragnar
      @smygarragnar 9 років тому

      +Mentour Pilot That's not true. Once you get your MPL you're not bound to any airline and you can take other type ratings from that point too. From the point you get your ATPL you're legaly ready to work as captain but coming from an MPL background you lack PIC hours comparing to a CPL holder. There are ways around that (PICUS) unless you fly a lot on your free time

    • @smygarragnar
      @smygarragnar 9 років тому

      Hi!
      MPL is a personal certificate issued by a contracting state to a pilot, without involvement of the operator. I didn't find any annex 1 extract about this when quickly searching just now, but this document from iata should be clear about this: www.icao.int/Meetings/AMC/NGAP/Documentation/MPL%20FAQ%20V1.4.pdf (see point 18). I'm currently undergoing the Swedish MPL programme myself and this has been clearly stated from the school and our contracted airlines; once we have our MPL licenses we are allowed to work in multirew operations as long as it's with the type we're currently rated on. Thinking about it it makes a lot of sense. The alternative would be a license (proving proficiency) that is restricted to operations for a specific company, how weird would that be :-)

    • @smygarragnar
      @smygarragnar 9 років тому

      Their thesis state that you're not hireable unless you finish your IOE (basically linetraning) with the host airline (section 8.4) and that is the point where you receive your MPL license.
      I agree, "adaptation to the new airline" is vague but i read it in the lines of company course and base training.
      I'm fairly certain what I said earlier is true, but I'll come back with some real references after a chat with our head of training :-)

    • @jem5190
      @jem5190 9 років тому +3

      +Mentour Pilot HI Capt! I'm an MPL pilot and what i can say for sure is that our ATPL is frozen until 1500 hrs. Thereafter when it is unfrozen then we can move on to other airlines. Regarding your question, there was a case where an airline had an oversupply of pilots and their mpl students was deemed redundant. The training organisation then successfully placed those students under another airline, so i would say they are "movable" but on a case by case basis.

    Hi Mentour. I was wondering if you know what the command prospects are for MPL holders in their airlines and if any additional training is required for an MPL to become an ATPL and if the 1500 hr mark still applies? I read a blog dated 2014 that said no MPL holders had yet become captains which got me thinking... :/
    I was wondering as well, if you were unfortunate enough to be left jobless with an MPL, can it be easily converted to a CPL with additional training or would this become very expensive?
    Thank you!

    Good moorning Mentour, first of all your channel is really interesting so i hope that you continue with your super videos! I attend a modular programme in Italy, attualy i hold a PPL (A) and i study for ATPL (A) theoretical while i fly for Hour Bulding stage... the flight school is really professional and till the PPL training students are trained to manage themselves and the airplane as in commercial operation/aerial work in terms of procedure guides, checklist, memory items etc. Furthermore the same school provides MCC training on FNTPII simulator.. this to say that, in my opinion, a "classic" integrated or modular programme is a good way to become a pilot also because anyway an applicant for an airline needs to be trained for Type Ratings/SOPs... Just two questions, i have searched and read many times about MPL programmes, Do you think that sometimes this type of training coincides with "Pay to fly" cases? and finally, what about the possibilty to convert MPL in CPL?
    I continue to follow you, happy landings!

      +Mentour Pilot Thanks for the answer! I know about the ATPL coversion reaching 1500 hours, my question was related with the worst case that a cadet could find, the possibility that the company (for example) fails before cadets have the conversion requirements! What in this case? Is it necessary to have a traditional training to pass from an MPL to ATPL Frozen CPL+IR? Thank you...

      +Chris Binks from what I've read, it does become an ATPL after 1500 hours or so, but it has some limitations to do with single pilot flying etc... and if you want to do this, you'll have to do some extra training (prehaps a seperate PPL/CPL etc...)

    I think you missed a very important point about MPL. As its name implies it's a multi-crew license and does not allow the holder of an MPL to fly as a single pilot. It seems to me to be a quick fix qualification and lacks the in-depth knowledge and experience taught in the ATPL

    Good day Captain, honestly i have some concerns about my current situation in aviation, you seem interested and supportive towards the MPL which makes me as a current CPL/IR ATPL Frozen student feel a bit of relief towards my decision of leaving my current program to join an MPL program, i take your thoughts in mind not just due to the fact that you earned four stripes on your shoulders but you are a certified line training Captain which not many people understand what that is i also do support the fact that the hours the students currently obtain on DA or Pa Cessna is overrated for Airline purpose flight, in the ATPL they told us communication is a major part of accidents history and MPL is the new way to face this issue, also what ever license you obtain , you shall go through a line check by that SOP's are the same and passing requires the same level of cooperation, for more details i am thinking to change to a gulf located MPL training which "promises" 1,500 hours on A320 i've seen some forms talking about the program with a very aggressive way towards that program, people are talking about how they didnt get 1,500 hours, deep inside i think its just Knowledge or cooperation issue from those cadets, to the fact that i checked the online orders, they are currently hiring and also ordering 33 A320's, anyhow Captain thanks for being there for us the new one's, you are very helpful and informative in an easy understanding way (nothing like EASA) if you are interested in more information i'll be sure to deliver, best regards.
    Hopfully a future F/O Ward..
    Fly safe Sir.

      @ward are you referring to the Air Arabia MPL program? Were you able to find more information about it. I have heard that they do not have any orders lined up for new aircrafts and they already have a large number of cadets waiting to complete their training. Please be kind to share any more information that you may have gained about this MPL program. My email is shaikhmoiz1@gmail.com. I'm planning to visit the said school in December to get more information and a current state of the situation at the school.

    • @MentourPilot
      @MentourPilot  6 років тому +2

      Those differ between different airlines and courses. Around the same or slightly more expensive than a normal integrated course normally.

  • @KarthikNakul
    @KarthikNakul 9 років тому

    while applying for an airline , none of them have mpl as their requirement, they only ask for cpl or ATPL , so airlines don't hire mpl pilots ?

  • @oskarwallin8715
    @oskarwallin8715 9 років тому

    The problems i see with MPL, is that you're giving Airlines a huge leverage over their employees.
    Basicly, as a MPL pilot, you can't really put pressure on the airline when it comes to how their employees are treated. because if they would let you go, you basicly got a worthless licence. Where as an ATPL pilot who has a lot of hours on type, would have it much easier to change company.
    I would understand MPL if it was a universal licence for airline pilots, where you COULD switch airline, as long as you redo the type rating and learn the new airlines SoPs.
