I'd say, all you need is : 1-never criticize 2-never assume you know better even if you are flying with someone new 3-keep the crew in the loop 4-never argue or fight 5-enjoy being popular for having great crm and other pilots would fight to fly with you .
Constructive criticism is okay here and there, but it’s got to be supportive and constructive. But yeah absolutely you’ve just got to be a fun person to be around.
am i the only person that just cant wait for mentour pilot to upload a new video? everyvudeo he makes just gets me more into aviation. thanks +Mentour Pilot !!!!
I have zero flying experience, but as a former business professional, i can tell you straight out that this is excellent information and can help you throughout your career. In fact, you should FOCUS on these attributes from the moment you adopt the idea of becoming a commercial aviator. Keep in mind that every applicant is going to have his credentials and flying skills in order, and... the people who make personnel decisions are not pilots themselves. They will be looking at everything but your flying abilities, knowing full well that you would never show up unqualified, or with a bad flying record. Work at being a team-player, goal oriented, well-rounded individual that strives to be fully competant, and responsible, at the endeavours you encounter and things will go very well with you. Things like diagnotics, leadership, delegation, command etc... are attributes that are ever changing, are developed over the course of a lifetime, and Starting early never hurts... but accomplish these with a large dash of humility if you wish to succeed. Long-term survival is a plus in the column too, especially in the field of aviation. 😶 On the other hand, cocky, arrogant, lazy, risky, untrustworthy and confrontational is the quickest way to throw it all away. (alcohol anyone?) Never forget that airlines are all about _liabilities and assets._ Be an asset, not a liability. Hope this helps.
I am getting my degree in computer science this year and i was thinking to take a master in machine learning, but your youtube channel convinced me to wait, save some money and go for a pilot career. I hope it will work out for me and i want to thank you for motivating me to follow my childhood dream.
Mentour Pilot so have you any idea why there spraying large areas of the plant?I think it's to cool the planet because to WARM it would be alot more difficult? think about it.answer the question if you've got the BALLS.
Absolutely great the quality and professionalism of you approach in these subjects. Is also great your willingness to share your experience with us, future pilots. In Brazil, at least, some of aviation folks usually tend to hide information of younger pilots. It mainly occurs in general aviation. Anyway, thank you for you dedication! As written before, can't wait for more material from Mentour Pilot. Greetings from Brazil!
Excellent video, turning the notifications on. Very good aviation influencer. And the most important thing is the fact of all of your advises applies in any carreer or any aspect of the long trip of the life. Sometimes I start to think about this kind of videos and I realize that persons like you gives to us more life-potencial comparing to ourselves families. Thank you again for your effort, who is really helpful to us, entusiast, pilots and future pilots.
Petter's instruction not to dress for a first officer's interview, but for the potential captain's position. This is very sound advice for any person interviewing with an advancement position in mind. Dress for success first time to make a first impression. As always Petter brings to his videos information that is well gathered and presented.
CRM; Two perspectives: Recently I heard a reviwe of al old crash video - the one that crash landed near Chicago, but with a part of a fanblade havng landed in a cornfield about 70 miles west of that. 1) This, and another video, the latter with much less attendant heroics, point out an important aspect of C.R.M. and how it seems to have come about. Nonetheless, I see two very important perpspectives in the general subject of C.R.M. and both have been touched upon at different times, with little seeming aware ness of just how closely they are related. 2) An air captain is the head of a team, andthis is of essential importance - common sense. So naturally airlines seeking future captains and in the interview process with prospective cadets, naturally make major importance of this. Captanis must be interpersonally effective with all the rest of their respective teams, otherwise they are of very little true value to their employers. This is the broader of these two perspecdtives. the first is the application of this to those in the cockpit forst, tnen to all. Additionally, at random times it befalls a captasin to intervene dorectly woith one of more passengers who may become a threat to a safe and pleasant flight. Once again, he/she will need to be adept at minimising any unruly, entitled, or arrogant behaviour. So with this, I would ask Mentour, Captain Joe and some of the mporew responsible video authors we witnes shere, to goive their comments. (Unfortunately, recently I have seen some aviation videos arise that IMHO treat the subject of air safety in a less good taste and decorum for a very serious topic.) In the presence of this may each and all be of theoir best wisdom on withnessing items of such like.) Iam not a pilot, but have had some 1 million Km. on the road in my 42 years of driving. what we see here applies in due and just measure to droving or any serious topic of public concern.
R. E. Bruce Martin Captain maybe head of the team but the first officers are also the second failsafe and also are an important part of the team, there to stop mistakes or break the ‘potential disaster’ chain.
Rigour, precision, courage, dedication, ability to stay calm and lucid under pressure, ability to prioritise and organise tasks, handle high workload and responsibility. Management and leadership skills, including team building.
I was among the first people to subscribe to this channel...i have always been in anticipation of each and every new podcast upload. Keep up the good job Mentour. I have a dream to be a captain, just like you, and hope that it will one day be achieved. Again i cant stress enough how much your videos keep me going...Kudos!!
OMG I just found your channel and I love it, I'm 25 years old and I'm starting to follow my dream to become a pilot. and now that I'm checking all the information about, and this it's a great place to find information if you just like me don't now too many pilots to ask
Wow. Amazing video... I think this is the best one you made so far among many great ones. You are helping me more than my own older brother in life with these videos. Thank you and please keep it in your mind, please, you are very much needed and appreciated by many many people, including me.
7:36 SAS Logic: you have to speak a Scandinavian language. But if you are Danish and fly with someone from Norway you will have to speak English anyway. However, they are not open to other nationalities.
Really enjoy watching your videos and always look forward to the next one!! May I make one small recommendation; to utilise text graphics when discussing topics where you make several points e.g. this video could have finished with your list of pilot personality traits as a form of summary/conclusion. All the best!!
Great video like always! As a student pilot I really appreciate these kind of video's. They give a great image of what the aviation industry is really like and how we should adapt to it as future pilots. Happy landings, Captain!
Thanks! Everything is going well so far and EASA phase 1 exams will take place in March. It all goes very fast, but I'll get there. Maybe a video about how to prepare for an airline job interview would be interesting? (Which courses are important to review, frequent questions etc.)
This is the first video I've watched in your channel and I really like it. Your explication about how to be susscessful in aviation world couldn't be better. Certainly I subscribe!
Hello sir right now I'm in my 10th std and i really want to become a commercial pilot your videos inspires alot thank you so much for giving so much information of becoming a pilot and yes I'm from India and I'm really excited to become a pilot but I hope I'll pass the physical test in the flying club.
Interesting about the skills and qualities you need as a pilot... I am sure that they can also be applied to many occupations, such as teacher as I am.
I was just asking about that (age) yesterday on the Mentour app, this is a great start.... prior autoevaluation... Thanks for another great Video Mentour!
Not mentor pilot. But i will say I have far less experience than him and I’ve declared 2 emergencies before. I only have about 2,000 hours of flight time and I’ve had a flap failure and an electrical failure in flight. Both in swept wing jet airplanes. They’re emergencies, yes, but those are fairly benign situations If you follow the procedures laid out in the operating manuals and have adequate airmanship. Both situations were fairly tense but training and airmanship kicks in and it really made both of them a non-event. Being a pilot is actually quite an easy job if you keep your wits about you and don’t panic and rush. NEVER RUSH. Rushing always leads to mistakes. The biggest factor that makes a good pilot is the ability to just “Chill out”. Relax. Be deliberate with every action you make. When you’re handed a giant plate full of bad things you have to be able to enjoy the flavor and digest it.
Quick question, we all know your first job was with an airline flying boeing 737, and that every pilot dream job , but if you were to go back would you have tried other things too if you had got the chance like bush flying ? Flight instructor so on , just asking out :)
You're doing a great job captain ! Especially for who studying for airline interwievs like me ! You can spot the issues from both sides. Thats what makes you an incredible instructor ! You and your podcasts are so helpful. Please keep recording. When you have time please share some of your 737 memories with us :) And also what about your thoughts about 737 MAX ?
Thanks for the video. it is FANTASTIC in the swedish acceent :D I would appreciate if your next video would start with asking us if we're doing FANTASTIC then talk more about how airlines will deal with pilot shortage i know that you talked about this case before. but i think that it wasn't too comprehensive about how airlines will deal with this. specially that the cost of becoming a pilot is EXTREMELY insane nowadays and it will increase by time Thanks a lot again and i wish you a FANTASTIC off days :D!
Hi Captain as Always it's a honour to see your podcasts can't wait for the other one ! I'd like yo ask you on doing a podcast on how it's done the first class medical certificate that you've gone through, i think it's a kind of video that can answer to a lot of questions about that, and also a possibility to grow up our channel !! hope you're doing fantastic, and see you soon from Italy . best regards, Hassan Attia ( Milan )
Another really inspiring and informative video :) Everything else, check. People skills not so much... well in a smaller group with known people no problem but I really don't like spending time in large crowds or doing projects with people that have totally opposite ways of doing things etc. In parties I tend to be the one in the corner minding his own business or playing with the dog so I'm reaaly afraid this will be a problem on the way to become an airline pilot...
+antimonni a Don't worry, not all pilots are extroverts. You DO have to be able to work in a team though so that. Oils be something to practice. Good luck!
Hi Mentour! Probably someone has already offered you this, but I'll take my chance :). May be you should try doing a series of videos covering preflight planning procedures (fuel planning, checking the weather, etc.)?
+Mentour Pilot glad to hear that! You could probably place a camera to shoot a table with maps, papers and calculators on it + adding some screen shots from a computer, if necessary and you will comment on things you are doing from a background :). Hope it helped at least just a bit.
that was really wonderful information shared ....................were very helpful tips for getting into the profession of an passionate pilot / Thank You
In regards to Pilot & Personality - some thoughts.. I wonder if the CV of any applicant which includes a University degree, together with the required aviation proficiency, ea hours, ratings, the top flight school etc. would land on top of the applicants pile, compared to say an ex Air Force aviator? Noticing the passion for flying that is drooping of your video's Captain, you Sir, strikes me as one of the "fly-boys" . That distinguished fraternity of people who got bitten early by the "urge" and started as a young lad flying gliders, than single's (ppl) up to multi (prop) rating and than on to the present day... My point is: piloting skills can be learned by many (I dare not say all. Having seen some solo's !!..) however aviator skills are a gift. Case in point: Gimly glider.. Captain Sully.. and many more such "dead stick feats".. not achievable for all ATP's So I wonder if today's Airline Companies would screen & read in between the lines of such CV's looking more for flying skills achieved over time with passion, rather than than the 1.5 K spend for flight school (by family fortune?) but devoid of early flight history. I do believe that KLM, (I'm Dutch eh) Swiss Air even Speedbird etc. rarely except cadets into their training programs without such traceable early flying experience. But Than:.. I might be an old romantic in this age of vastly improved Wire-Flying "FiFi's" (Blog frm Cap'tan Dave, Flight-level 360) But Than: ..Not to long ago the FAA was reported to be worried by diminishing piloting skills AFR 447 - Eastern 401 But Than:...(NTSB quote: 2004 over 1/2 of incidents >NOT ACCIDENTS< are "pilot error) >>Funny thing is they won't retrain rotor-jocks either, even with (not much)1500hrs...
Hi! The airlines are, in some ways, looking for the specific behavioural markers that indicates "good pilot skills". They tend to do several tests including spacial recognition, Situational awareness and stress tolerance as part of their recruitment effort. No airline pilot really knows if he/she has "it" until the day it happens. When it comes to university degrees, some airlines require us to have that. It doesn't matter much what kind of degree it is, just that you have showed enough persistence and grit to go through with it. Have a great day!
Thanks a lot for all your videos, they are really useful. I have one question though : if during an interview you are asked what your weaknesses are, what would be a good answer ?
Would airlines look upon you unfavourably if you are an introvert? I am an introvert and I am very worried about all the psychometric tests that they put you through. I do have good people skills however, and I am extroverted in environments which I find stimulation in.
Another intro here worried about the same. I've been looking into MPL and a possible career change but this is always the biggest issue I'm worried about. I get along very well with my workmates and other known people but it can be very awkward with strangers when face to face... I absolutely love aviation but I lost my possibility to my dreamjob in the military because of personality related testing so it really worries me that they will take away another dream with them tests again...
The answer is "yes it can" but don't let it hold you back. There are many introverted pilots in the airlines. I am one. Work hard, set goals, and come up with strategies to improve on your weakness and rely on your strengths. Don't pigeon hole yourself in one group or the other. Extroverts may have their own set of issues. I enjoy managing the flight deck, and dealing with people, however I don't gain strength from it like extroverts. Value your down time to recharge.
If you absolutely need to fly, but can't handle all the people,or the idea of all the people, try flying freight! Airlines aren't the only option. Those who fly freight or other avenues make similar money and frequently have a more favorable quality of life over those who fly airlines!
There is a number of patents for arrangement of individual flat cabins for passengers to sleep also in the economy class. Do you believe that airlines will ever offer sleeper "honeycomb cabins or cocoons", I'd love to be able to sleep during long haul flights without paying first class fares.
wow this video has been very useful for me,thank you,it looks like I have all personality traits, perfect! now my suggestion on a upcoming video is about money,do I have to be lucky economically to become a pilot, each way I'm going to take? Thank you for your videos, your doing a reality fantastic job for us aspirant pilots
Hello Mentour As you always point out, You are a fantastic mentour, indeed. I thank for all your honest effor by preparing these videos. I have one request by the way, I really wonder about SOP of a flight.
I have a question, I was. A mechanic for 35 years I'm a Amateur Radio Operator Extra Class and a RC Pilot, At the age of 57 could I get a job in the flying part of the industry?
thanks a lot sir...u r doing such a fab work out there.......i have just joined ur channel....so i was not able to go through all d videos.....but i surely will......BUT FOR NOW CAN U PLZ TELL ME ABOUT 1-MEDICAL CERTIFICATES FOR CPL 2-CAN I GET CPL WID OUT SPL 3- CAN I OPT ANY ONE FROM CPL OR ATPL I KNOW THIs is too much but plz..i need it coz i m gona change my track in a month.....thnks in advance
Hello Mentour Pilot, I'm a CPL holder and planning to apply for airline interviews soon. Could you kindly post some videos about the common questions we could get at the interviews?. Specially one-to-one sort of interviews. Appreciate your effort.
just on a bit of a Mentour binge before I go back to school tomorrow. Just a question on languages.... being Irish I'm fluent in English but I'm not particularly great at essay writing etc. is that important or is it just spoken English which is important to be a pilot?
As has been said so many times in other words: "Where there's a WILL, theye's a WAY!". As usual, i much like the way you usually are direct and explicit to non pilot young people about how closely all this fits with other professions also. Obviously not every yung career seeker can be a pilot, or at the least we would have a glut of pilots and a saturated wmrk market in that area. Obvious to many but to how many not?
Is the aptitude test the same as the suitability test or does it differ. I have done many aptitude test recently. YOU ARE DOING A GREAT HELP BY CLEARING THE COUNTLESS DOUBTS IN OUR MINDS ABOUT THE REAL DEAL IN AVIATION INDUSTRY AS IT REQUIRES BIG INVESTMENT AND THAT IS WHAT MAKES ME REAL NERVOUS ABOUT IT. THANKS A TON!!
Hi, I am about to start my A-level study and currently I am picking my subjects. Although I am competent with maths I don't feel I have the skills and interest to study maths to a higher level. I am definitely studying Physics so my question is how much of a hindrance would not having a maths a level be to my prospects of becoming a pilot? Another great video captain! Keep it up
What did you do when you came out of your training? Straight into a commercial pilot job or did you have to build up your hours being a flight instructor or what not
Good video, but I did a integrated atpl course in the Netherlands and the only people without a job after 5 years are the two older students and 2 females. There were around 20 people in my class. So I'm not that sure if age isn't important.
What am i going to do if my dream is to be a pilot but i Am poor?? Im just a 15 year old boy and i just want to get ready to be a pilot someday even if i am poor.
hello sir i want to be a commercial airline pilot so should i do it after my BTech(engineering) degree or should i start immediately at the age of 20. Sir please answer.
Hi I am interested in becoming an airline pilot, can you help me through the steps I need to take after taking my GCSEs in secondary school.Should I get a degree first as a back up and than do the training or should I go straight in to the training.
"their not interviewing first officers but potential captains"... wow never thought of it that way, thanks man.
I'd say, all you need is :
1-never criticize
2-never assume you know better even if you are flying with someone new
3-keep the crew in the loop
4-never argue or fight
5-enjoy being popular for having great crm and other pilots would fight to fly with you .
Pretty much, yeah.

I spoke to an airline pilot socially and he felt the most important trait was a sense of responsibility. I'm hoping to read that in these videos.
I find all of your podcasts fascinating. If every pilot were as engaging and knowledgeable as you, we’d never fear flying.
thank you so much ! i dont care if the videos are long ! the content was rich !

Love your videos, very rich content! Greeting from Brazil! :)
In Greece, flight schools only take one year to train you and give you your pro license, due to the climate.
Hello Mentour nice watching your video absolutely amazing like always

I'd like yo ask you on doing a podcast on how it's done the first class medical certificate that you've gone through, i think it's a kind of video that can answer to a lot of questions about that, and also a possibility to grow up our channel !!
hope you're doing fantastic, and see you soon from Italy .
best regards,
Hassan Attia ( Milan )
+Mentour Pilot it's sound great , yeah my question was related to your own experience 😊✈✈✈
Good luck!
why is it important to be able to handle stress? what kind of decisions under pressure is there to make while flying an airplane?
+Mentour Pilot I would love this! :) very interesting, definantly what weather planning you assess
that was really wonderful information shared ....................were very helpful tips for getting into the profession of an passionate pilot /
Thank You
Thank you for sharing. I really appreciate your advice.
Captain Sully.. and many more such "dead stick feats".. not achievable for all ATP's
So I wonder if today's Airline Companies would screen & read in between the lines of such CV's looking more for flying skills achieved over time with passion, rather than than the 1.5 K spend for flight school (by family fortune?) but devoid of early flight history. I do believe that KLM, (I'm Dutch eh) Swiss Air even Speedbird etc. rarely except cadets into their training programs without such traceable early flying experience.
But Than:.. I might be an old romantic in this age of vastly improved Wire-Flying "FiFi's" (Blog frm Cap'tan Dave, Flight-level 360)
But Than: ..Not to long ago the FAA was reported to be worried by diminishing piloting skills AFR 447 - Eastern 401
But Than:...(NTSB quote: 2004 over 1/2 of incidents >NOT ACCIDENTS< are "pilot error)
>>Funny thing is they won't retrain rotor-jocks either, even with (not much)1500hrs...
Hej Petter, tack för att du svara på min fråga som jag frågade dig en gång. Väldigt bra video, du är min största förbild just nu.
A pilots job is the worlds greatest job!
You helped me a lot 🙏🏻
So good at explaining things..
Thanks a lot for all your videos, they are really useful. I have one question though : if during an interview you are asked what your weaknesses are, what would be a good answer ?
Mentour you told me soon that you will upload a podcast about CVR & FDR, I hope it will be soon
Excellent question!! My son is 15 and very much an introvert and it worries me if he'll be able to pass some of the personality test.
thank you so much for your time and sharing knowledge
There is a number of patents for arrangement of individual flat cabins for passengers to sleep also in the economy class. Do you believe that airlines will ever offer sleeper "honeycomb cabins or cocoons", I'd love to be able to sleep during long haul flights without paying first class fares.
wow this video has been very useful for me,thank you,it looks like I have all personality traits, perfect! now my suggestion on a upcoming video is about money,do I have to be lucky economically to become a pilot, each way I'm going to take?
Thank you for your videos, your doing a reality fantastic job for us aspirant pilots
I love the video i learn too much on this video thanks man! I would like to see a video of how airlines hired you.
Hello Mentour
As you always point out, You are a fantastic mentour, indeed.
Love your videos they are so helpful to me thank you
What would be a good weakness to use for pilot interviews? Really appreciate if you could help sir.
thanks a lot sir...u r doing such a fab work out there.......i have just joined ur channel....so i was not able to go through all d videos.....but i surely will......BUT FOR NOW CAN U PLZ TELL ME ABOUT
1-MEDICAL CERTIFICATES FOR CPL
2-CAN I GET CPL WID OUT SPL

Hello Mentour Pilot, I'm a CPL holder and planning to apply for airline interviews soon. Could you kindly post some videos about the common questions we could get at the interviews?. Specially one-to-one sort of interviews.
Appreciate your effort.
Osanda Ranathunga What happened next? Did you pass the interview?
THANK YOU from Mongolia
just on a bit of a Mentour binge before I go back to school tomorrow. Just a question on languages.... being Irish I'm fluent in English but I'm not particularly great at essay writing etc. is that important or is it just spoken English which is important to be a pilot?
You have the best videos!!
Could you talk about layovers and what to expect from overnight stays for long haul pilots?
Hi, I am about to start my A-level study and currently I am picking my subjects. Although I am competent with maths I don't feel I have the skills and interest to study maths to a higher level. I am definitely studying Physics so my question is how much of a hindrance would not having a maths a level be to my prospects of becoming a pilot?
Another great video captain! Keep it up
Please could you give an example of a suitability tests?
I'm still thinking about flying...but I can't stay away from my baby's..is crazy what someone can image n actually bring it to life.
I would like to know more informations about aircraft's systems like APU...ILS ....!
Okay maybe it's just a coincidence. Thank you very much. I love your videos!
Thank you so much for this video sir.
Excellent video.
What am i going to do if my dream is to be a pilot but i Am poor??
Im just a 15 year old boy and i just want to get ready to be a pilot someday even if i am poor.
Try to get sponsored u could try to join the european flight academy and join the Lufthansa or Swiss Programm. They pay for you.
Very helpful 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
hello sir i want to be a commercial airline pilot so should i do it after my BTech(engineering) degree or should i start immediately at the age of 20. Sir please answer.
Hi mentour, how are the hotels companies provide? Are they confy or just near the airport wrecked hotels?
Hello,
Do you think a pilot must have a leadership trait? Or tend to do the teamwork?
Murat KAYA Teamwork it is 70%, when you are in command you are the Capitan, so you don't need be a leader, but you have work with your crew
The suitability Test you mentioned in this, where or how would a person go about taking one?
Google Pilot suitability or aptitude tests and see if you can find an airline psychologist which will do it. Most bigger schools will do it for you.
one day one time insha allah
thank you so much for this informative video!
your videos are too helpfull!!
Hi I am interested in becoming an airline pilot, can you help me through the steps I need to take after taking my GCSEs in secondary school.Should I get a degree first as a back up and than do the training or should I go straight in to the training.
Could you do a video on funding and ways to pay for the cost of flight training.
@mentour pilot Grateful for your teaching through video production, do you have a patron for viewers to contribute support?
Amazing!! Thanksss
