My best friend was a quarterback for his high school team and his senior year he led them to the CIF championship and an undefeated season. Got recruited to University of Pacific by Mike Martz who said he was definitely going to be a pro quarterback as coach Martz was going to take him under his wing and turn him into a star.
Well, Mike Martz moved on to the NFL and that left my friend at UOP with a new head coach who was Bob Toledo and Bob did not like him at all and moved him to the bench and did not play him. Then, Bob moved on to UCLA and Pete Caroll moved in to coach UOP and didn't give my friend a shot either.. They both wanted their own quarterback in there. My friend wasn't playing QB at all so he moved on to baseball where he did pretty well but he was really a gifted quarterback.
Well, that's how you ruin a career.
wish he left the school honestly hurts to hear
Played with and am good friends with mikes grand nephew! Mikes nicest dudes I’ve met
your friend should’ve left the second coach did and found a new coach who believed in him :( really sad to hear that though
Yeah, your friend shoulda left that's unfortunately usually how it goes with new coaches.. they wanna bring in a guy they recruited.
@@davidwells5888 yeah he was like 18 or 19 years old he didn't know what the hell to do just a kid with no one to advise him.
Sometimes an NFL career can get ruined by a player going to a team that doesn't run a system that fits their style of play. Demarco Murray is an example of that. In Dallas he was an inside runner behind a great offensive line and running between the tackles, but in Philly it was more of an outside zone running scheme attacking the edges of the opposing defense.
Right n my titans knew this
Mike ain’t taking this Amari Cooper trade lightly
Bell was on his way to having a great career but he got too greedy 🤦🏾♂️
Don't remind me, I had the top pick in my fantasy draft that year and because I had problems logging in it automatically selected Bell, and who was the second ranked player, Gurley who went on to have 21 total touchdowns that year, to this day I ALWAYS wonder why the hell a guy who was holding out was ranked number one in fantasy drafts🤷♂️🤷♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Bell wasn't greedy at all. He turned down 14 million per year from the Steelers for a deal that paid him 13 million per year with the Jets. That's less. Money had nothing to do with his decision.
@@ctruth6185 So you're saying he just wanted out of Pittsburgh?
While still not the best career move, Mike didn’t give the full breakdown. The jets deal was less but had significantly more guaranteed money then what he would have gotten in Pittsburgh. For someone playing RB that was only getting older I don’t blame him.
@@ctruth6185 because he wanted 18M a year, couldn’t get it so he took what he could
NFL careers that got to where they were because they started in the perfect place, with the perfect conditions
Tom Brady is the perfect example of that one. If he doesn't play in a division with three teams that were never playoff contenders the entire time he was in the AFC East his career doesn't go the same way. He was literally spotted about 4.5 games every season just by playing in that division.
@@ThePrufessa shit you could say the same thing for Patrick mahomes now too
@@joelaguilera9207 lmao no you can’t
Dak presscott
@@joobiejoobie9349 Andy Reid is the perfect coach for Patrick yes he would still be a good QB but the system is made for someone like Patrick
Bell had a much better o line in Pitt with an established passing game aswell
Nnamdi Asomugha is another player that fell off. He was amazing with the Oakland Raiders, then he went to the Philadelphia Eagles and looked like a completely different player and not in a good way.
Offensive line coaches don't make good defensive coordinators my take away from that
They really took one of the best man cover corners and tried to make him play zone most of the time 🤦🏾♂️
That was that time when we brought in quite a few decent players who ended up playing worse with us then with their prior team, Asomugha, DRC, Vince Young, Murray, and Mathews to name a few
Byron Maxwell signed with the Eagles after having a great career with the Legion of Boom in Seattle as well. He couldn’t cover his own shadow... Must be a “Philly” thing.
It was a “Philly thing” because when Maxwell went to Miami after the Eagles he played well when he wasn’t injured.
Part of the reason why Lev Bell failed as a jet was because he was signed before they signed Gase and Gase never wanted him there, he used him wrong and accelerated his decline
Also because he sat out a year
The Jets were a bad team with a bad o line, but Bell was also a terrible rb there.
Hey, Mike, there were PLENTY of "hybrid running/receiving backs" in the NFL. Chuck Foreman was a HUGE threat out of the backfield. Lydell Mitchell and Joe Washington would BURN any team that didn't cover them. Frank Gifford could run and catch, and even THROW effectively, as could Dan Reeves. And those are just off the top of my head.
Marshal Faulk and Therman Thomas Two of the best I've ever seen. Roger Craig SF another good one. Too many too list
Just goes to show that being on a well coached team matters! Tom Brady wouldn't be the same if he went to Cleveland, Washington..
CJ2K was drafted in 2008, not 2011.
It’s sad that future generations really won’t know much about leveon bell. He was honestly one of the best backs I’ve ever watched. His patience for letting blocks happen in front of him and his vision to hit the hole once it appeared was astounding. It was like watching a quarterback let a pocket build and then hit the dirt full the throttle. I’ve never seen a back play like that and don’t think I will again. His fall off his one I’ll never understand. People won’t know how good he was, he was really one of a kind.
Dalvin Cook has similar patience for developing blocks
1 player of the 2000s ID say I felt he left on the field unfinished
I'd say the one player who was a great running back with Cincy then went to the Patriots was Corey Dillon
Sometimes you don't know you're in a great situation until you lose it - it shouldn't always be about the salary, So what if you receive 15 million instead of 20 million????? In alot of cases these are greedy NFL agents whispering in the ear of these NFL players.
Rudy Johnson with the Bengals. He was my favorite RB. Don't know what happened to him.
I kidnapped him. You'll never see or hear about him again
I loved Rudi
Lev was an all pro yet his greed ruined his career.
Any DL/LB who left an Aaron Donald led Defense (Donte Fowler, Cory Littleton, ETC)
Much respect Mike for the consistency
I think Nnamdi Asomugha should be on this list. Total shutdown man to man corner for the Raiders then signs the big contract with the Eagles and changed defensive schemes and was never the same
Dude my big brother is a huge raiders fan so I remember this well, he was so upset but felt better once her started to suck! Lol he'd be like "that's for stabbing al Davis in the back!"
@@zombiediet after the Eagles released him he had a short stint with the 49ers and then he actually signed a 1 day contract with the Raiders so he could officially retire as a Raider. As a Raider fan I appreciated that
Like you said, the Cowboys had a dominate offensive line during Murray's time with America's Team. Don't get me wrong, Murray was a good RB but the Cowboys offensive line that featured Travis Frederick, Tyron Smith and Zack Martin (and the other two were usually at least above average depending on what year we are talking about) was God tier. Even Darren McFadden found success behind the great wall of Dallas. This dominant offensive line lasted for a few years during Ezekiel Elliott's time as RB but it has sense fallen apart with Tyron Smith a shadow of his former self and Zack Martin the last really good player the Cowboys have on their offensive line.
Imagine how many players that could have had a great career had they been drafted by a different team
I thought this was gonna be a video about every free agent that Washington has signed under Dan Snyder
😆
Russell Wilson will soon be top on this list
Sad seeing Ahman Green on this, but you're totally right. He still is my favourite player of all time.
I remember how rumors came out that the Eagles only signed Murray just to take away him as a weapon.
And everyone was screaming for Leveon to get paid, get paid! The Steelers were right not to pay him
At least OBJ scored a TD in the super bowl b4 the injury
Love the Pewd's chair Mike, one of my favorite simple designs. Hopefully it's comfortable too.
Mike is such a dedicated content creator, he didn’t need to make this video but did anyway. And don’t forgot he’s been double uploading for the last like 5 days
AB maybe?
Ahmed Green was fucking great
To be fair to LeVeon, Pittsburgh still has yet to find a more successful RB since he left, I am high on Najee Harris though, we will see how he does next season
It’s levs fault he was too greedy.
@@nrg6245 Greedy Rooney family
steelers need a quick tonmake Najee effective
Anyone else miss seeing fullbacks
I think my Steelers should go back and get him in a backup role behind big 22
Two ways to look at it the player peaked and was as good as they were going to get and not gonna be any better or they were a product of a system and they flourished in that system.
So IDK your definition of "good", but as a WR and not returner, Ted Ginn Jr was only solid on the panthers even after leaving and going back and being on like a dozen teams.
Never pay a RB. You don't use prime ribeye to make a stew.
Jimmy Graham wasn't the same after he got traded from New Orleans
Same when Brandon Browner went to the Saints. He was hot garbage
@@justsoup847 He's in jail now
He had 2 solid years in Seattle too
Awesome appreciate you posting alot and I like these types of videos the most this was one my favorite videos you made mike👍
Bro love these videos, learn a lot about my favorite QB Patrick mahomes from you. Really appreciate it
Todd Gurley JKJKKJKJK
nfl careers that got goated by joining a new team : Corey Dillon
I was so happen when he finally got the ring he deserved
You missed Antonio brown
AB became a SB champion when he left the Steelers.
First to tell you we need Tom Brady coming back video !!!!
BREAKING NEWS Tom Brady is coming back for another season POSTED ON HIS INSTAGRAM
7:55 I like how the offensive lineman isn't sure what to do when Haynesworth doesn't get up.
In my opinion CJ mosely
Somebody's going to pick him up
I live in Pittsburgh and bell was a beast then got greedy and well the rest is history
YOU.DIDN'T.HAVE.ANTONIO.BROWN?
Definitely would like to see a part two
Gues who's back. Brady's Back!
How is a career ruined when they make millions?
So many of these players forget that their teammates are a big reason for their success. Bell, Maxwell and Murray hit the lottery being drafted into their respective situations and then decided they were "thay guy" but they were not and it cost then
Yes make a part 2
Part 2 please
Love you bro!!! Biggest fan!!
As a Redskins fan, that Albert Haynesworth signing was considered one of the dumbest moves in recent history. Every time I see that, I just feel ashamed and embarrassed. One of those moments where I question why I am a fan of this team.
D'Angelo hall after leaving Atlanta for Oakland.
Fun fact: Hillis blocked for Darren McFadden and Felix Jones for the razorbacks. They should have won it all that year.
Tom brady unretired
sports are about the money put dollars to it
Some players are more about the Money then the Stats/Career. They also, get the special treatment. Don't have to practice as hard.
Running backs don't go to the Jets. They seem to ruin them somehow...
enjoying this kinda video the kind that has a long shelf life not just the last news
This video was great, gotta do a part 2 with Stephon Gilmore, Josh Norman, Daunte Culpepper...
Include Trent Richardson in part II
Right. It was weird that the browns even gave up on him since he was looking pretty good with them. Then we saw why when he went to the colts
Did he get his pay day with Colts?? I remember by the end of his first year as a Colt, a sports commentator branding him the worst running back in the league. Crazy! the quick turnaround.
A truly gifted player will shine no matter what team he is on
Yeah bro Chip Kelly DESTROYED my beloved Eagles.. got rid of everybody and made us completely have to rebuild. I mean he traded away Shady McCoy for Kiko Alonzo! Maclin, bye. DeSean Jackson, see ya! That shit sucked lol...
Oh not to mention... Sam Bradford 😬
Lol what he did to the eagles roster should've been an offense enforceable by jail time. He violated the eagles man 🤣🤣🤣
I feel the eagles ran Demarco Murray the wrong way.... he's an inside runner going trough the guards maybe even tackles and the eagles ran him as an outside zone scheme... i thought that was so stupid of Philly
Love your channel my dude Mike!!
Bro talk about Tom Brady return
Brady is back. Where is the story on it?
He unretired.
Damn that Seattle super bowl win was almost 10 years ago now.
Do an ironman episode with people like Ed reed and frank gore
Didn't join a new team but Titus young looked to have such amazing potential across from Calvin Johnson. Couldn't keep himself out of trouble for anything even lining up wrong in games
damn how long have you been holding this video bro in the old place
I wanted this to be perfect to drop right before free agency
Fredd Young, was the best LB in franchise history up to that time a real a playmaking game changer who could do it all. His play at the position was so good it highlighted the need to improve the rest LB corp especially as we played a 3 -4 defense then. In the 87 draft the Hawks selected LB'S Tony Woods and Dave Wyman with their first two picks and won the Brian Bosworth supplemental lottery and that's when the fracture between Young and the front office began ultimately leading to his departure. Young was a 4th rd pick out of New Mexico State who play on Special Teams and then at LB earned him 4 straight pro bowl selections and he rightly believed he deserved to be paid up to level of his play the Hawks offered him a new contract paying him 350,000 a year. Meanwhile they gave the newly arrived Bosworth, who hadn't played a down in a ten year-11 million dollar contract . Young, felt disrespected and held out in training camp but still made the Pro Bowl that season his final big play was in his highlights clip where he intercepted Warren Moon in the AFC Wildcard game but in pre replay era it was ruled an incomplete pass and the Oilers kicked the game winning FG on that drive. The dream quartet of LB'S the Hawks envisaged never materialised. Young was subsequently traded to the Colts the following season. The tragic irony was that both Young and Bosworth , would never play as well again as they did that season together as injury wrecked both of their careers and they soon be out of the League. To compound the Hawks misery Tony Woods was a bust and Dave Wyman career was also hampered by injury also and he finished his career with the Broncos. Go Hawks
No way Hillis is the founder of the Madden curse. Michael Vick was on the cover of Madden 04, pretty sure even before then people were afflicted by it. Fun video nonetheless!
man i miss demarco murray bro if we had a running game like that this year no way the szn woulda ended as early as it did
Watson is visiting new Orleans and Carolina
Me wating for the Tom Brady coming out of retirement video
Idk about everyone but I watch mike’s videos by just double tapping though it all
Mike Wallace, Suh can be on this list too & Nnamdi as well, make a part 2 bro
I think amari cooper could get his career ruined by the browns
At 10:50, did he forget that Adrian Peterson came within 7 yards of breaking the single season rushing record in 2012?
Pains me to say this as a Jets fan - but Trumaine Johnson was a huge let down.
MIKE TB12 IS BACK!
I love how you said “if you’re a casual” it’s nothing but then you’re shirt says allergic to casuals
John ' JJ ' Jefferson 1978-1980 San Diego Chargers. All Pro first 3 years and 3 Pro Bowl's. Contract holdout before 1981 season traded to Packers 1981-1984 Pro Bowl 1982. Final season 1985 with the Browns.Of note, his son Justin was a first round pick in 2020 by the Vikings....Aloha
To be fair, Le'Veon Bell's career got ruined because he sat out a whole season and didn't work out as much or as hard as he did when he was playing in season. Never underestimate the life sucking ability of the couch, it's terrible.
I love the videos
Mike that was some daggone good stuff yeah that's some tragic stuff lot of those guys were knuckleheads obj but that was a lot of good content Go Lions
Your favorite team is McDonalds. Vanilla ice cream. WalMart. Snakes and sparklers.
The allergic to casuals shirt is fire
For being a Dallas Cowboys fan I am surprised there was not a mention of Alvin Harper.
The biggest and worst NFL player who changed team at a high auction cost is none other than "Russel Wilson"!
Murray was ran to the ground because he refused to come out of the game in 2014, when they tried to put randle or Dunbar in while the game was close Murray refused to leave the huddle, eventually they stopped trying sub him out.
If you truly evaluated Murray in 2014 you could tell he wasn’t gonna last long in the NFL. At the start of 2014 I was amazed and thought he looked like prime emmitt, by week 12 Murray looked like 2002 emmitt. Solid but couldn’t endure.
Everyone knew bell screwed himself. Greed is one of the seven deadly sins.
Why do i feel like Mike has mafia connections
