BF will flash the FC, but ELRS cant find the Rx on the FC, so no Rx flashing is going to happen, the built in Rx was a bad idea, BF sez its a serial but happy model sez its SPI and the mobula6 box sez its a 900 and on the other side of the box it sez its 915... so basically there are 10 different combinations to choose from to flash and plus the boot button on the FC broke and I had to solder wires to replace it, now I have 2 wires sticking up that need to touch each other when it comes time to "boot" mode it... the only thing this is good for at the moment is a FPV transmitter... maybe Ill hot glue the FC to my 35$ cheap quad and have working FPV for it...
Currently debating on staying with the DJI radios, or switching to ELRS. I started with QX7, and toyed with a X9 Lite, but gave both of those away when I started flying the DJI v1 radio. Super long battery life, button integration with goggles, and no reciever needed for my whoop conversions. But now with v3 AU coming, it's unknown if it will support DJI RC2, and RC2 doesn't have the button integration with the goggles. I may be building mostly new quads and getting rid of the current ones along with the v1 controller and v1 goggles. My Goggles 2 should connect to the Vistas (eventually), but my v1 RC likely won't connect to the v3 AU. So this is my interest in your ELRS SPI video. My most recent build has an ELRS SPI reciever on the whoop board. I didn't use it, but it should be fairly easy to swap over to. What's funny is the DJI v1 radio used to seem ultra expensive, but now when I look at ELRS radios to replace it, the DJI RC2 is actually on the cheaper side. EDIT: I see I was just mostly noticing all of the different TX16 models. There's several other transmitters in the $100 range.
One thing to keep in mind with the TX16S is there is a reasonable price range, depending how premium you want to equip it. I. E. All metal gimbals + CNC parts is more expensive than standard hall gimbals and plastics. There are some good brands and TX designs, but I personally would stick with RM due the R&D they are putting in, and the support they offer. Self-build can be expensive, but in the long run I think it's cheaper and you have a better idea how it all works, and can maintain your gear better because of that.
@@pfeerick The lowest I saw for a tx16 was $200,...which is about "ok". I did see the Zoro is reasonably priced. Also the TX12. I don't really care much for bling. Hal gimbals would be about as much as I'd spring for. Do you mean self build drones, or radio? I definitely do plenty on the drone side. Some are more like "rebuild" or conversions,... But I just found I didn't really need Amber or Lua in my radio. Nor do I "need" ELRS or 900mhz to have a link more stable than video. The DJI radio holds solid when the video Mbit is in the low single digits. But it might be time to change if the winds(compatibility) aren't blowing right for me to stay DJI.
@@rcrdps8144 Self-build drones - I'm not so much into self-build on the TX side, but I do know one person who designed and built TX and RXs from scratch... and some of the ELRS guys are into designing custom handsets. Yeah, unfortunately prices have been going up... I'm it was around $180USD or even a bit less when I got it ... that was a couple years ago now though! 😆 If you don't want color touchscreen... TX12 is probably the best radio to get unless you prefer gamepad form-factor - since you can use standard 18650 or even the 5000mah pack with the TX12MK2. And you don't sacrifice sound or Lua either, which you do sort of need since you use it to configure the ELRS link, and you can also tweak BF parameters using the BF Lua. As far as DJI, time will tell, it's early days still, but good to keep a finger on the pulse for other stuff so if they become too restrictive you'll know which way to jump ;)
@@pfeerick Thanks for the recommendation. I did watch some more videos last night, and I think I'm pretty set on switching to ELRS. And I've definitely been eyeballing the TX12. Need to watch some reviews on that one today. The DJI v1 RC is kinda smaller in the hands, and when I had the X9 lite, I liked the way it felt too. So I think I'd like the TX12.
My DJI goggles V2 just started displaying "image transmission signal lost". This is with the GepRC cinelog35. Do you have a video on that or possibly make one?
You have lost link to your video transmitter. Check the video transmitter: is the LED on? Is it green? Is the vTX powered up? Does the link come back if you get closer to the quad or is it all times the link is gone? If you want to email me joshuabardwell@gmail.com those are the questions I would start a troubleshoot with.
It has taken entirely too long to get SPI ELRS upgraded on BF. Has been holding me back from building tiny things because I refuse to buy more FrSky stuff.
Unfotunately, I can't upgrade my Mobula 7 HD up to Elrs3.0. I use internal SPI RX (FrSky_D D8). When I've started upgrade on my Jumper T16 TX it shows "Not enough space". So I user Elrs 2.5.1 on TX and write it on RXs.
Met some dude who thought he's so smart that a T-Lite with built-in ELRS paired with a Mobula 6 would work together, so he could have the newer flashier compact radio running cutting-edge ELRS 3 (RC1) and a compact drone with SPI RX to save some weight - NOPE. - 2.x FW does not exist for the built-in module - SPI RX (on BF 4.3.x) doesn't work with ELRS 3.x He ended up adding an EXTERNAL RX
Any idea if this works for binding to eu-lbt radios? Or id there is an option to flash a bf version that supports eu-lbt? If not i’ll just fly illegally 😂
That's not really a nightly, more a test build. You can flash a nightly directly from BF Configurator without downloading a firmware, just need to tick thr devdlopmenf/expert mode opts in the firmware flasher. But that PR build is a better one to get a bunch of people to use, and report issues with. I. E. A fixed point in time, rather than a moving target (which nightly? What else has been changed?) And if we're talking whoops here.. They bounce well! 🤣
It seems like you have Angle mode activated. Most likely there is a switch on your controller that will disable Angle mode. Plug in to Betaflight configurator, go to the Modes tab. You should see that Angle mode is yellow indicating active. Flip the switches on your controller until Angle mode turns off (goes gray). If you need to manually set up an aux mode, here's how: ua-cam.com/video/feObDe54wKw/v-deo.html&ab_channel=JoshuaBardwell
As an add on, if buying a Mob 7,would you recommend buying the on board elrs one? Or adding an external RX to a different board? Seems like the spi part is an issue?
It's hard not to spit every time I hear the word ExpressLRS! Buggy software, junk equipment and an upgrade that causes a whole bunch of new problems that didn't fix the old one's. All this grief over a receiver. IMO it makes FRsky D8 look damn charming in comparison. At least the D8 would fly across the yard before it lost signal and fell out of the sky. This BS ELRS can't seem to make it away from the computer table 😒
If you're not getting miles of range from ELRS, something surely isn't right about your system. I couldn't guess what that could be, but it's hardly the norm. "Buggy software?" IDK what you count as a bug, but I'm not aware of any that made it into a final release. But sure -- it's an open source project that moves fast. If that's not your style, ELRS isn't for you.
@@JoshuaBardwell it's definitely not for me. I would rather spend my free time flying than sitting at a computer scratching my head wondering what to try next to make the last error message to go away 🙃.
That is certainly not the norm. Is it more complex than other systems - yes, at times. Does it have its own way of doing things - yes, just like every other system. Does it generally just work - yes. Most of the problems with ELRS stem from naufacfurer QC (or lack thereof) and provisioning, sheer back luck, or failure to read the instructions properly. I. E. There is a 2.0 => 3.0 upgrade issue - which stems from how some manufacturers initially flashed the firmware. There are failsafe issues from how some manufacturers configured the reference frequency crystal oscillators. But all of this is documented, and as long as you don't jump to be the first cab off the rank, all this information is available.
@@JoshuaBardwell Moves fast, yes. I"m here 4 months after most of this discussion wondering if anything has changed. I could have sworn there was a 4.4 hex file offered on the Happymodel web site, but now I can't find it, so I'll try the 4.3.1 file you recommend in your pinned comment above. Per your BF video series, I have the latest BF Configurator 10.9.0 RC5 and 4.3.2 firmware on my X12 AIO.
Way to early to be recommending flashing 4.4, irresponsibly so IMO. Current discussion from Chris Thompson in the testers channel on BF discord "- The BAD one: with the latest master code, I got random D 'grinding' and flyaways on arming, and occasionally mid-flight. Log shows extreme resonance on roll, happening randomly. This is on a quad that has never, ever, had this issue. The older master code (from before some recent PR's) has been entirely problem free. It may only be a problem on my F411 board with CPU load or something, not sure." Guys this is an exciting feature but we need to wait until we are closer to the feature freeze to recommend people go flashing nightlies and literally pre-alpha hexes 🤦🫣
@@JoshuaBardwell sorry, not necessarily directed solely at you. Look at your comment section though. "No need for the asset folder anymore, just flash master" and such.
U are awesome! Thank you!
So this is my interest in your ELRS
SPI video.
All i keep getting is, Rebooting to Rom Loader. And im unable to flash or bind My Happymodel Bassline. Any ideas? cheers
how about tmotor f4 aio 6A..... what work with this firmware
Please help. I can’t bind tinyape to pocket radio
I’m looking for a moblite 7 with elrs but I only find the frsky version 😢
my betaflight will not flash a local hex file it just sits there and doesnt load
If you want to email me joshuabardwell@gmail.com those are the questions I would start a troubleshoot with.
i'd like to know how to get expressLRS 3.0 on my LiteRadio TX....
I don't think it's possible unless you have the Pro. Betafpv has not made it possible.
It has taken entirely too long to get SPI ELRS upgraded on BF. Has been holding me back from building tiny things because I refuse to buy more FrSky stuff.
Hi Joshua. I am new this things. So may be i ask stupid question but can i bind mobula7 frsky wth R9M?
No
This is Wonderful \o/
Unfotunately, I can't upgrade my Mobula 7 HD up to Elrs3.0. I use internal SPI RX (FrSky_D D8). When I've started upgrade on my Jumper T16 TX it shows "Not enough space". So I user Elrs 2.5.1 on TX and write it on RXs.

This is the fix
@@JoshuaBardwell thank you very much, I'll try to do it.
All this time I've been reading it as "crazy beef"...
Met some dude who thought he's so smart that a T-Lite with built-in ELRS paired with a Mobula 6 would work together, so he could have the newer flashier compact radio running cutting-edge ELRS 3 (RC1) and a compact drone with SPI RX to save some weight - NOPE.
- 2.x FW does not exist for the built-in module
- SPI RX (on BF 4.3.x) doesn't work with ELRS 3.x
He ended up adding an EXTERNAL RX
0:55 I'm Ron Burgundy?
my mobula 7 1s seems to be in a "beginner" mode where i cant pitch/roll more then about 20 degrees. how do I change/ disable this in betaflight?
It seems like you have Angle mode activated. Most likely there is a switch on your controller that will disable Angle mode. Plug in to Betaflight configurator, go to the Modes tab. You should see that Angle mode is yellow indicating active. Flip the switches on your controller until Angle mode turns off (goes gray). If you need to manually set up an aux mode, here's how: ua-cam.com/video/feObDe54wKw/v-deo.html&ab_channel=JoshuaBardwell
Is it possible to put crossfire to a tiny whoop? Really want to try that
Yes. You do it the same way you put it on any drone.
Newbeedrone has crossfire built in now
Can I put expresslrs on the mobula7?! Do I need a new rx?
If your Mobula7 doesn't have built in ELRS, yes you need a new RX.
As an add on, if buying a Mob 7,would you recommend buying the on board elrs one? Or adding an external RX to a different board? Seems like the spi part is an issue?
What’s the best module to get for the xd9+ ?
Go for the frsky r9m if you can get hold of it and flash express LRS to it
Happymodel Pro is my recommendation. FrSky R9 does not have an EP chip and cannot do Wifi stuff so I wouldn't use it.
Trying this on my mobula 7, but after flashing, drone fly's away after arming no matter what I do. Anyone had similar issues?
yes! any solutions?
We need ELRS video 😖
Second!
my first elrs experience was realy bad ep2 receiver bad flash could not fix it in any way. elrs= burning money
Typically a bootloader flash via ftdi adapter or Betaflight passthrough is how to recover from a bad flash.
And we want to switch to this from crossfire why? 😂 🎉
If that's a serious question, ask the people who switched. But I don't think it is.
First !!
🍪
lol...DVDA🤣🤣🤣
Your experience is unique. ELRS has been nothing short of amazing for basically everyone.
Current discussion from Chris Thompson in the testers channel on BF discord
"- The BAD one: with the latest master code, I got random D 'grinding' and flyaways on arming, and occasionally mid-flight. Log shows extreme resonance on roll, happening randomly. This is on a quad that has never, ever, had this issue. The older master code (from before some recent PR's) has been entirely problem free.
It may only be a problem on my F411 board with CPU load or something, not sure."
Guys this is an exciting feature but we need to wait until we are closer to the feature freeze to recommend people go flashing nightlies and literally pre-alpha hexes 🤦🫣
I'm explicitly NOT recommending it. I'm saying, if you accept the risk and want to try it, here's how. Look at timestamp 0:59
@@JoshuaBardwell sorry, not necessarily directed solely at you. Look at your comment section though. "No need for the asset folder anymore, just flash master" and such.
Though, ironically, the asset folder from the PR is seemingly safer than current master...
ItsBuntly literally had a rant about this on the news with your face on the screen when we were in the *RC* phase of 4.3.... This video is how we end up in that place, or do you not see that?
