As a Chef specialising in BIR Indian cuisine, I signed up for and ordered an ASDA delivery just to try out the featured product after viewing the vid and reading the comments. Although the offering is not what you'd expect from your typical Indian restaurant, I was delighted to find that the Beef Madras is every bit as good as described - very fresh and vibrant, great flavour and with a generous amount of lean beef. The rice is also very good, so definitely the best shop bought curry I've ever tasted by a distance (even better with a couple of green chillies and a cold lager!). And just a note on the portion size - it says 'Serves 2' but its really a generous single portion! Big thanks to the Bald Foodie Guy for posting this👍😀

I 100% agree this is M&S level and ik the same thing is like £20 from the top Indian restaurants in the country I have had this and it’s a 10/10 glad you enjoyed this recommendation Gaz
The M&S ones aren't even that amazing. Tried a few and never been blown away, went to get a couple on Ocado this week and the reviews there are also very average at best! These actually look like proper curries rather than just nice packaging
I had this beef curry on Tuesday after watching your reaction to it and it’s probably the best supermarket curry dish I’ve ever had. The beef and that sauce were so tasty. I’ll be buying another next week, thanks for the review😋👍😁

I had the butter chicken curry from that range and it's better than the local Indian restaurant. I eat it over two days because there's enough for two.
Wow this whole range is very tasty, great bit of tasty heat...excellent. I didn't read the box and froze them not realising they are supposed to be "not suitable" for freezing, but I defrosted them and they cooked and tasted great...so don't worry about buying a stack of them for your freezer, thanks for the heads up lad, a treat
This is a great new range although I only buy it when on markdown at Asda . Their Butter Chicken dish is literal restaurant quality . Only let down is the flimsy plastic film lid , it can’t take any knocks or damage whatsoever , I’ve seen loads of them leaking sauce even in the reduced chiller as presumably they got damaged in transit and no-one would buy them full price

That looks really nice. I thought at first that it was really only one portion, so a bit dear, but I would not eat a curry without rice, bhajis, etc, and if I added all that, I would get two portions and it would not be dear at all. Another one for the shopping list the next time I am in Asda, thanks for that. 😊
Good to see at long last a mainstream supermarket has a curry similar to what you would get in an Indian restaurant. Tried loads from other supermarkets but never quite what you might expect.
*Oh brilliant brilliant review and amazing find on this recommended Beef Madras Curry from Asda 👌🙌👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻* Special thanks to the person or persons that suggested this. Awesome
I think Asda have seen your review and put the price up ( £5.00 at my local) because they knew they where going to get extra custom from your video. I agree though definitely a one portion meal but looks really nice definitely a treat though at that price.
Looks lovely Gareth. I used to get the M&S tinned beef curry, but not as nice as it used to be. £5 is decent if there's loads of beef. Says serves two! I'd have that to myself :)
Hey, these meals are pretty fantastic. My favourite for sure. Shocked you have not had these before. Beef, Lamb, Chicken all fantastic and worth the money. Good selection of rice, potato, Dahl and samosa too! Enjoy
Microwave cooking doesn't materially degrade nutrients, probably it is less damaging to these than oven cooking. This is because the microwaves merely cause the water molecules to vibrate and thus heat up. Also the heating time is so much shorter and so degrade the nutrients less than longer cooking times would do.
Hello Gaz.Hope you're well and Family Mate.Looks great that range.I like the way it's all in portions and the added Curry leaves makes it look Authentic.I know you have to buy the rice separately but that just makes it all better. Each Dish is Unique to itself kinda thing.Great Review
Completely agree been eating them for a while, only bad bit too many leaves, mind I don't think it's Madras hot myself, old discontinued Beef Madras was hotter and cheaper, you can still get tins but doesn't taste as good.

Yeah I get them from Tesco. Really good. Had the Bhuna one the other day. Cooked it with chopped chicken breast. Was lovely. Will have to look in Aldi when I go tomorrow.
Trouble being you have to buy the meat ,I get the Taylor made fiery goan £ 1.50 on offer take 10 minutes but I like a review on tescos equivalent there independently made but also look that bit special
Can I suggest to everyone instead of buying naan breads to go with these curries you try the Village Bakery…Flame Baked Folded Flatbreads, they’re light & fluffy like a naan but you can use them like a pita bread for kebabs or as wraps etc , 4 pack available from most supermarkets certainly Aldi. 👍
M&S Chicken Madras has always tasted better than most Indian restaurant curries for me. They seem to have changed their Naans though, which used to be restaurant standard.
“I’m off to wash my hair! 🤣😂🤣 you’re a true natural Gaz. I don’t remember you being as excited about any dish like this when you had your first taste. It’s won me over. Thanks. 👍
My favourite Bom Bahia (so far) is the Chicken Biryani - it’s very, very good. Previous favourite was Waitrose’s Hot Chicken Tikka Masala which was unmatched among supermarket curries - creamy rich and spicy with a HUGE flavour. Unfortunately (like M&S) Waitrose curries shrunk by a third while rising in price in 2023. Worst of all, the recipe has changed into something thin and bland with tough chicken pieces. Unrecognisable. Thank goodness for this Asda range!
I'm going to have to get one of these. Problem is I live in a small Scottish town and the Asda supermarket only stocks about 6 different curries, all very generic and total rubbish to be honest, no such thing as a Vindaloo or a Madras in there, so I'm going to have to try and "import" some of these from England. Cheers for the review.!
That cant be right the inflation rate is only 3.9% that means its gone up by 11.5% i think we are being lied to by the government, who would have thought🤣🤣
I had my first delivery from Asda recently. I ordered nearly all of this range. And as I live alone now I had rather a lot to get through in a short period of time. I managed it. They were all superb. With loads of meat in each compared with competitors. They were on launch price of £4.50. Not sure what they are now. The beef is definitely Brisket as it has that shredded texture. Highly recommended. Will be a while before my next lot. As mistly use Waitrose, Ocado and Morrisons for delivery. With the occasional. Iceland.
The different meals from this range at Asda have definitely been the best Indian meals you can get from a supermarket. I dunno why its taken so long for a company to get it right. And like you say, even if you were served this in an Indian restaurant, you would still be happy.
Decent ingredients. I do love fresh fried curry leaves. There are certain home-made curries I make for which fresh curry leaves are a must. Rare to see them in a ready meal.
“Gonna give me hair a wash” 😂😂😂 bahahaa!!! You crack me up! Beef madras is my favourite curry & that looked flippin delicious. Your reaction said it all. I fancy curry now! 😋
Since this review which is great the price is now £5.00 just done my shopping to try this, looking forward in trying the Gunpowder Potatoes but another great informative review
great review again, I couldn't find a good beef supermarket curry for years, so I made my own, which isn't bad using beef shin in the slow cooker, off to Asda to try this and the other ones people have recommended because of your review- ta
Yes gaz...hope you're all good...if you get the chance, give aldis,GASTRO.chicken jalfrezi, /chicken tikka masalla, a go....these are proper tasty 😋....
That looked really nice but my nearest Asda is in Dagenham n if anyone knows that place on here I’d rather go without. Gareth is a ray of sunshine and I luv it when he really likes something, his face lights up.Hes also funny too. That looked so good I’m going to see if Asda deliver. Best food review channel on here.
Asda have always been the best for curries, I've tried them all, Tescos a fair second, M&S the poorest, I've been making my own for more than 50 years, long before you could buy the spices. I eat curry almost every day, so thanks for the review, a good honest opinion and well presented.
Tried these myself and yes, they are excellent. There's another couple from the range that I too. You're definitely right in that this one is restaurant quality. I've been telling my folks that.
Sorry I am a day late Gaz. Goodness that looks the business even, if it's a fiver now, better then most restaurants. You pay for quality, but worth it. What a video Gaz.
Hi Gareth great review 😊 we were wondering what to have for my Birthday tea tonight you made the curry look so yummy we might get some for tonight 😊😊🎉🎉🎉🎉😂😂😂🎉🎉
Good one Gaz. I live in the South East and all mains are a minimum of 10 quid in Indian take aways near me. I will pick some of this range up today as the curry you recommended from M&S was awesome.
Im not always rushing out to try some of the foods you try Gaz, but that looked absolutely bang on - 2 things Gaz, was the heat good, and would Gaz buy it again?! (I always wait for that bit). Love it when you get a good un, only foodies get it when we go mmmmmmmmmm thats amazing! 😋❤️😎
I've had some ready currys that only take two ticks in the microwave.. trouble is there also good for filling in holes round the house.. that however looks banhin ❤❤❤❤
I'm going to go to Asda this weekend to get a couple of these curries (will try this one and another). Probably do my own rice at home and get some Riyas Original Naans from Asda as well. £5 seems quite steep for the amount of Curry you get, but will still have a go!. Indian Restaurants around this way (Bournemouth) would be about £10 but I think you would get more Curry than that. Thanks Gaz
They do indeed!, I only buy the Charlie Bingham ones when they are on offer as a treat, but they are incredible!. But when you are spending around a tenner you may as well go out to your favourite Indian Restaurant.@@marvinsymes
I just had this beef madras and it was spot on .... before it I had the keralan style fried chicken which comes with a spicy mango dip all very good ...cooking time was 6 mins which I think is to long so a lesson learned as they turned out rather crispy , both items selling at £5.00 in Asda . Thanks for the videos 👍🍺
That looked bang on. I’ll definitely be nipping to Asquith Dairy for one of these Gaz. Keema naan is my favourite too. I like to make a curry butty with them 😂 Cheers for the review 👍🏼🇬🇧🇬🇧
Your initial reaction was just like mine! Make a lot of curries myself and kept the ingredients in the hope I can re-create same dish home made. But def worth buying.
Hi Gareth, thanks for another informative review. I could tell straight away this had passed the test when I saw the infamous satisfactory facial expressions. Lol. Looked really good to be honest. Will need to get down to local Asda soon.. Keep up the spot on work. Best wishes from Scotland.
Tried the entire range of this brand from Asda and they are all top notch, the Lamb one, Lamb Karahi I think is my personal fav, for a supermarket curry it’s a thing of beauty….great vid 👍
This Indian range is really good, I think the "House of Yum" range came out at the same time, it's the Chinese option which is also decent and is the same price which is now a fiver as they have snuck it up 50p just recently.
I managed to get one Gaz from my local Asda in shaw oldham only 2 left this was a fiver!! gonna give it a bash next week will give you my vote!! cheers gaz🤔🤞
£5 currently in my area, I guess they have seen your review and thought ££££££'s 🎉, probably still good value but make 2 portions out of it. Great review, Asda owe you a share in the increased profit they are milking 😊.
You did the Bom Bahia Tandoori mix grill a while back Gazza. When our asda got them in I tried it & have to agree with your review it was good. However I also did that Beef madras & although it was good , way to many bay leaves to pick out for my liking, but again tasty. Nice review pal.

“I’m off to wash my hair! 🤣😂🤣 you’re a true natural Gaz. I don’t remember you being as excited about any dish like this when you had your first taste. It’s won me over. Thanks. 👍
Haha yes I enjoyed this one 😄
Had this the other week , yes I recommend it , was surprised how much meat was in it and how tender it was , it's definitely a single serving
I have also tried the biryani and I agree it was lovely. The Waitrose chicken biryani is also very nice.
Thanks for sharing
I'm going to have to get one of these. Problem is I live in a small Scottish town and the Asda supermarket only stocks about 6 different curries, all very generic and total rubbish to be honest, no such thing as a Vindaloo or a Madras in there, so I'm going to have to try and "import" some of these from England. Cheers for the review.!
You're welcome 😊
Just checked on ASDA site it now £5 not £4.50, bloody inflation.
Iceland.
Cheers pal, all the best
£5 for the range at ASDA in Tilbury today.
Price has gone up to £5.00 now. What a shame.
Yes I see, only bought it a few days ago
So many people doing food reviews now. You are probably the only one I really enjoy watching ❤
Wow, thank you!
The different meals from this range at Asda have definitely been the best Indian meals you can get from a supermarket. I dunno why its taken so long for a company to get it right. And like you say, even if you were served this in an Indian restaurant, you would still be happy.
Because Asda are now owned by Indians instead of Americans 🤷
I've had the lamb curry from Asda a few years ago when it was £2.50 and it was honestly one of the best curries I've ever had. Asda are really good
Decent ingredients. I do love fresh fried curry leaves. There are certain home-made curries I make for which fresh curry leaves are a must. Rare to see them in a ready meal.
Cheers pal
“Gonna give me hair a wash” 😂😂😂 bahahaa!!! You crack me up! Beef madras is my favourite curry & that looked flippin delicious. Your reaction said it all. I fancy curry now! 😋
Glad you enjoyed
Looks great. I am getting some right now! Many thanks BFG
Hope you enjoy
Since this review which is great the price is now £5.00 just done my shopping to try this, looking forward in trying the Gunpowder Potatoes but another great informative review
Yes crazy how is just gone up.
Asda have done good with this range, we've had most of them and they're all really good. Plus you get a free pie dish to boot.
Good for Yorkshire puds
great review again, I couldn't find a good beef supermarket curry for years, so I made my own, which isn't bad using beef shin in the slow cooker, off to Asda to try this and the other ones people have recommended because of your review- ta
Hope you enjoy cheers pal
try Pataks Paste Pots next time you make your own......its soooo simple and super tasty/rich, you get 4 large portions 2 per pot !
You're welcome 😊
Asda have always been the best for curries, I've tried them all, Tescos a fair second, M&S the poorest, I've been making my own for more than 50 years, long before you could buy the spices.
I eat curry almost every day, so thanks for the review, a good honest opinion and well presented.
Looks a good one Gareth 👍😁 I must give this a try. Lovely Jubbly.
Hope you enjoy
Tried these myself and yes, they are excellent. There's another couple from the range that I too.
You're definitely right in that this one is restaurant quality. I've been telling my folks that.
Sorry I am a day late Gaz. Goodness that looks the business even, if it's a fiver now, better then most restaurants. You pay for quality, but worth it. What a video Gaz.
You're welcome 😊
Hi Gareth great review 😊 we were wondering what to have for my Birthday tea tonight you made the curry look so yummy we might get some for tonight 😊😊🎉🎉🎉🎉😂😂😂🎉🎉
Happy birthday!
It most likely would serve two if you were using rice as an accompaniment, plus an added extra would be Poppadoms, scrumptious.😋
So glad u tried it, delish!!! Yum 😊
Me too!!
somethings are worth that extra! their chinese speciality are not bad either XD - love your videos - thank u :) @@BaldFoodieGuy
I agree, I was surprised at how nice and tender the beef was. Lovely.
Good one Gaz. I live in the South East and all mains are a minimum of 10 quid in Indian take aways near me. I will pick some of this range up today as the curry you recommended from M&S was awesome.
Cheers Guy
Im not always rushing out to try some of the foods you try Gaz, but that looked absolutely bang on - 2 things Gaz, was the heat good, and would Gaz buy it again?! (I always wait for that bit). Love it when you get a good un, only foodies get it when we go mmmmmmmmmm thats amazing! 😋❤️😎
Haha cheers
I've had some ready currys that only take two ticks in the microwave.. trouble is there also good for filling in holes round the house.. that however looks banhin ❤❤❤❤
I'm going to go to Asda this weekend to get a couple of these curries (will try this one and another). Probably do my own rice at home and get some Riyas Original Naans from Asda as well. £5 seems quite steep for the amount of Curry you get, but will still have a go!. Indian Restaurants around this way (Bournemouth) would be about £10 but I think you would get more Curry than that. Thanks Gaz
have u seen the charlie bigham range of curries at £9.50 tho, make this look great value:)
They do indeed!, I only buy the Charlie Bingham ones when they are on offer as a treat, but they are incredible!. But when you are spending around a tenner you may as well go out to your favourite Indian Restaurant.@@marvinsymes
Good luck
Have you tried The Lights of India takeaway in Bournemouth? My go to every week
No I haven't, that is over Poole way isn't it?. I tend to go to Alis Brasserie in Moordown.@@hauntedgaminguk
I just had this beef madras and it was spot on
.... before it I had the keralan style fried chicken which comes with a spicy mango dip all very good ...cooking time was 6 mins which I think is to long so a lesson learned as they turned out rather crispy , both items selling at £5.00 in Asda . Thanks for the videos 👍🍺
You're welcome
That looked amazing ,gonna try that for sure .
Hope you enjoy
That looked bang on. I’ll definitely be nipping to Asquith Dairy for one of these Gaz. Keema naan is my favourite too. I like to make a curry butty with them 😂
Cheers for the review 👍🏼🇬🇧🇬🇧
Cheers Dan
Your initial reaction was just like mine! Make a lot of curries myself and kept the ingredients in the hope I can re-create same dish home made. But def worth buying.
try Pataks Paste Pots n make your own......its soooo simple and super tasty/rich, you get 4 large portions 2 per pot !
Everything in this range is spot on especially as you can do most of them in the microwave
Hi Gareth, thanks for another informative review. I could tell straight away this had passed the test when I saw the infamous satisfactory facial expressions. Lol. Looked really good to be honest. Will need to get down to local Asda soon.. Keep up the spot on work. Best wishes from Scotland.
Cheers Stewart thanks pal all the best 👍
Tried the entire range of this brand from Asda and they are all top notch, the Lamb one, Lamb Karahi I think is my personal fav, for a supermarket curry it’s a thing of beauty….great vid 👍
Chicken Patatas Bravas from Aldi is amazing just had it last night definitely recommend it
Good to know! Thank you
Great review Gaz. Would love that with a pile of chips!
Oh yes definitely
this is the most enthusiastic about anything i've seen you get in a while! I will be adding one of these to my next asda order!
Enjoy 😉
Inspired by your review I picked up the Lamb Kerahi of this range for tonight! Will try to update here how it went! Cheers
This Indian range is really good, I think the "House of Yum" range came out at the same time, it's the Chinese option which is also decent and is the same price which is now a fiver as they have snuck it up 50p just recently.
The Madras and Jalfriezi are outstanding.
Very good yes
I managed to get one Gaz from my local Asda in shaw oldham only 2 left this was a fiver!! gonna give it a bash next week will give you my vote!! cheers gaz🤔🤞
You're welcome, glad you got one
Thanks Gareth looks amazing. I will be purchasing a few tomorrow.
Hope you enjoy it! Cheers Steven
With the extra sauce here, when rice is added it really soaks up that extra sauce. Food for the gods! 🙂
Me and my partner had this tonight after your review .. was spot on very nice ...going to try lamb one next time
Glad you both liked it thank you. 😊
Fair one mate yes there was a few leaves
There are no bay leaves in the beef madras curry,it’s curry leaves which are edible,no need to remove.
That is very true Janet, but I still don't wanna be picking em out, edible or not ! 😘
@@Didderly I understand,I just love the taste of curry leaves, nice talking to you😄
Looks so good I will get one of those 😊 thank you Gareth
No problem 👍
I would have this with some fluffy white basmati or buttery mash. Love curry with any form of potato!
Sounds great!
