Adjustable Glasses -- Are they worth it? Actually...

- I mean, they are only about $20. Yeah, cheap plastic, but then again, for a backup pair that has a prescription which never expires, it's worth checking out.
UPDATE: CHECK THE OTHER REVIEW!!! I think the quality has DROPPED a lot over the past few years. I mean I got them in 2017. The company no longer even exists. For an emergency solution, a credit card magnifier is much better. But yeah, I hear many, many negative things about these glasses now.
Update (8/15/2023): A better solution might just be getting this magnifying card: • Magnifying Card -- The...
Update: many have purchased these glasses and have not been happy with the results. So there are likely different sellers and different levels of quality. Even the ones I have may not be sold now.
But for the ones I have, they're are NOT GREAT. And yeah, for $20, you can get a decent pair on Zelle with your current prescription. However, when your prescription changes over time, those glasses may not work well, or at all.
The only reason I have these is to have a backup pair in case I lose my main ones or don't have access to them, and I find myself in a situation where I simply have to read something and have no other way to do so. You would not want these for any other situation. So for mine, they sit in my car for years, I don't even pick them up. But if the need should ever arise where I cannot see clearly for things up close, it's nice to know that I have a device that can immediately match my eyesight. The build quality does feel like a $2 plastic toy. I just have never found a $2 version of these. $20 seems to be the going price.
So expectations should be just for that: something to provide clarity in a pinch. And not something to wear to the office each day.

Very informative. Thank you! I don’t want to get my hopes up, spend my $, and find it was wasted, again.
Thanks, yeah, I think most expect them to be regular glasses, which they certainly are not. Just some plastic to allow for being able to read something in an emergency.
The little plastic credit card lenses can also do that, and I carry one of those in my wallet in case I'm at the store and have to read a label or something.
I tried on a pair after watching this video. I got them a couple of years ago & was sent multiple pairs. After a couple of years I found that the plastic lens have gone brittle and cloudy like plastic shopping bags go after a while. I think I should make a unboxing video with the unopened ones & add the time aged glasses as a bonus view. 😂
Thanks for sharing! Yeah, quality probably gone down in the past few years.
I am thinking to get one. Thanks for sharing your thought. Now I know what to expect before I get one.
Happy to help.
good video, looking for temporary reading until I get prescription glasses next month
Merci beaucoup Monsieur! J'apprecie vos commentaires! Thanks appreciated your input!
Pas de probleme. :)
I just received mine pure plastic dial is not easy to adjust it's clunky as if stuck together and unable to use them I've wasted £59 😢
I had my cataract surgery a few weeks ago and now I have 20/20 vision. No more glasses. Lens inside my eyes is a lot better than remembering to wear glasses every day.
That's probably the best solution. :)
I'm thinking of getting cataract surgery also. Did you get one of the multi-focal lenses? If so, which type/name lenses did you go with? --Thanks
Seems like a great back up plan, and if yours eyes change you know you can still adjust them.
Yeah, definitely might come in handy. I just keep mine in the car in case I ever go somewhere and forget my glasses.
@@renaissancejames I got them and don't like them. Very cheap quality can't really use them.
@@michaelmohrle1773 why can't you use them?
@@joshuajordan584 Quality is so bad they are unusable.
@@michaelmohrle1773 okay, thanks for the info
I lose my glasses a lot so I think this type of glasses will be very handy for me. I have to get one to see how it works. Thanks for info.
You are very welcome!
But then you will also lose these. You are amazing.
What about tv distance & outside? I have probs with watching tv, sometimes its ok other times not especially reading print. I take pills & this affects my eyes.
I would not use them for that. They really are just for emergency situations where you must see something clearly and no other glasses are around.
😂😅🤣....This guy makes me laugh..Sounds like his words are coming out of my brain, guess you could say I can relate to what he's saying...😆
I wish these were less ugly, I’d consider using them just for my regular glasses. I have had trouble getting the right prescription with new ones. I’ve basically given up and just use old glasses that work fairly ok. 😂
I would not recommend them for regular use. It's probably best just as an emergency pair if one needs to see clearly and regular glasses are not around. They're pretty clunky.
@@renaissancejamesyeah, but do they work? Clunky doesn't matter but if you are older various distances are a prob. I could do with 3 sets but this may help me.
as a child, we always had binoculars for camping. they had a lenses that you rotate to dial in the focus.. They were very high end and expensive.. Why don't they have similar tech for glasses (other than expensive glasses doctors use in surgery..?).
I imagine it could be done, though maybe not at a cheap enough price for mass production. The technique for these glasses is just adjusting the distance between two cheap plastic lenses. Though I think a magnifying piece of plastic works better. :)
@@renaissancejames My last pair of Prescription bifocals with anti-reflective/anti-glare and scratch proof coating, was over $550... i'm sure a optician/mechanic could find a solution withing that ball park.
I'm am optician. Great try, but I can't see these compensating for astigmatism or astigmatism axis. Having these as maybe a backup emergency option, maybe.
Yeah, nice as a backup in case of an emergency. But definitely not something for regular use.
I agree, and I’m not even a doctor.
I am not only nearsighted, but one of my eyes was damaged a couple of decades ago.
You tend to learn a lot about how things work when you have a problem and pay close attention to it, as well as doing some homework on it.
The astigmatism is so awful in the bad eye, that the only off-the-shelf glasses I buy are 350+, and that is because I work with tiny little things, or need to see fine damage on the equipment I work on.
I don’t think these are for me.
Yeah... I hear you. However, if you splurge the extra $10 and get the model that includes the opti-grab, they're totally worth it.
What is an “opti-grab”???
Thanks in advanced.
Good to know. Yeah, the pair I got is not great quality, but does the job in a pinch.
Stay away from the oil cans they’re defective or someone hates them!
"Opti-grab" LOL! Seriously dude. Folks here may not know that's not a reality.
Logan, google the word "Opti-grab Steve Martin" ~~ you'll find out there is no such thing
What’s the brand. Dial a vision? How much?
The one I got was from China but no longer sold. It was about $20. A much better solution (IMO) is the plastic credit card lens. It allows for reading print in an emergency but much simpler in design.
You can literally use those glasses for the rest of your life because you can change the focus as you age. You can’t do that with normal prescription glasses.
Yeah, it's the main reason to have them, I think.
Trust me! They won't last a week of use!!!
It’s money back gaurantee just by contacting customer service!
Not to mention they have a 3 year warranty.
Totally worth trying!
All BS!
Nope they do t work bro
Thought they might work for reading on the computer, but they were terrible, as reported below. Hard to adjust. VERY narrow vision - like looking through a microscope. And a very problematic return process, which, BTW, cost about $11, in the original packaging, via USPS - the least expensive option. You get LESS than you pay for!
Yeah, I think it's changed a lot in the years since I got a pair. But yup, only good for emergency use to read something. Not much else.
I have some , actually 4 pairs were sent out & are rubbish. The dials spring out and look ridiculous on but the glasses probably harm your eyes more than anything.
The plastic material of an adjustable lens needs to bend. So it won't be very good for very long, as the flexing of the plastic is achieved by adding "plasticizers" - not very stable. A more chemically stable plastic is used in proper glasses, but it too goes yellow like the headlight covers of your car.
Thanks for the feedback.
For me.
Used as TRIAL LENSES.
What brand did you try?
The old axiom, “You get what you pay for” applies here. Buyer beware. The advertorial that pops up on UA-cam ads seems fictitious. The story of “John” the optician that supposedly developed these. LOL
Yup yup. For sure.
Speaking, Reading French!❤
C'est vrai! :)
Silicone Coated over cheap plastic 💡?
Pretty much. They would just be for emergency use only, where one has to read something but has no glasses around.
I did get another product which also could work (review soon!) But it's a much cheaper solution. :)
@@renaissancejames I keep 👀 seeing ad for these., im wanting to buy to try, it's something I'd think to invent, but didn't think Optically enough... I keep breaking my cheap Walmart readers.. the tiny screws come out, I need to glue them in, next pair...
They help you read french?
LOL. Well, clear French is easier than blurry French. :)
hey, I speak "French" sometimes 😂
How about night driving with them? Left that part out.
remake those in real glass and better quality and u got a good product sombody needs to do that maybe charge 50$ instead of 20$ worth it.
I imagine someone could do a great job with it. It seems like it's mainly just very poor materials that hinder its use and quality.
But with so many poor versions out there, I imagine the reputation is tarnished to the point where no one will trust such a product anymore. Thus, it would be very tough to market.
Still, yeah, it would be cool to have a good version of them, or something technically assisted.
Hi fella, have you tried the Bates Method? Try some full body natural vision improvement exercises and at least slow your need for yearly prescriptions.
Subbed
Words I love to hear! :)
5 pairs for £15 on Amazon 🤓
Don't waste your money on these things. Total crap. Got mine today, they're going straight back. You've been warned.
Both pairs went into the garbage
I never had an issue with them
That is simply a subset of a microscope......simple mechanical n optical concept
So I can now read in French
C'est super!
@@renaissancejames aaa what?
@@Mark-sd7fc Heh. Just commenting "That is great." :)
Just got mine this week and they are trash!!! I am returning them for a refund.
I guess there are different levels of quality. Sorry to hear it didn't work out, but got to love the Amazon return policy. Try and then decide. :)
It is a big waste of money. Just got them but they are useless, can't see absolutely nothing, so I had to bin them. Better go to the opticians even it is a bit more expensive
Good to know.
I made the mistake of buying Flex Vision adjustable glasses. They are cheap junk, don't waste your money. You can't see at any distance.
Yeah, I think they've gotten much worse over the years. Maybe okay to read a label in an emergency, but not much else.
WOW! You speak and read French??
I read it better than I speak it. :)
They are absolute JUNK! I got suckered into buying a pair, they ship from Communist China, (where they're made), and take forever to be delivered. And when they finally arrive, you will find that the lenses do not focus worth a crap, it's like looking through a fish eye lens, and they have the same feeling and focus capability of a $0.99 pair of binoculars you buy in a dollar store toy isle. The construction is cheap and shoddy, and the focus knobs are so tight you end up hurting your finger while you hear the cracking sound of them breaking while you're simply trying to focus them.
Yeah, if you want to be a sucker, go for it and buy a dozen of 'em!
The quality has decreased a lot since I bought mine. I still keep them though.
They look like expensive 'readers'.
They are nothing but useless cheap toys with an impossible return policy. Some even get way over charged. Total scam.
Heh. I guess in some ways.
The idea is great, but the look of the glasses is ugly
Yeah, they're best for just an emergency. I keep mine in the car in case I ever forget my regular ones and I have to read something very important.
They look cheap and they have so many different companies name beware and ask for how many days do you have for return this can be tricky like tmu advertising is sad
Yeah, I got mine years ago. I guess they have gotten worse. The plastic credit card magnifier is probably a better buy now.
They are cheap crap and when you try to return them the company scams you they never give refund. Complete Internet trash!!
I'm not surprised, but yeah, I got them years ago, so things are probably different now. I do like those flat credit-card magnifying glasses. They are quite helpful when you have to read a label without glasses around.
99% COMPLETE GARBAGE! The minute I picked them up, I could tell the quality was cheap and poor. You almost get the feeling that you can easily break them as you adjust the lenses. Your vision is partially blocked between your eyes and from the peripheral. My reading glasses from Walgreens are of better quality and my vision is better.
The only positive thing about those glasses is the way they hold the lens. If regular glasses held the glass lenses that way, there wouldn't be as much pressure on the bridge of your nose.
Yeah, the pair I bought was a few years ago and no longer sold. I imagine the quality may have dropped since.
A scam only. Cheap toy. Nearly impossible to get refund. They over charge your card many times. Any positive ads have been paid for or come from the company. Again, junk.
Definitely good to know. Which company did you buy from? Though perhaps they all are unscrupulous at this point. I got my pair several years ago and things may have changed since then. But it was purchased and no kickback from any company. I'm not that popular. Heh.
Thank you sooooo much, you just save me from buying crap
Cheap piece of crap. Period. Mine came with a big thumb print between the lenses that I couldn’t remove. Worth about $1. And that would be overpriced.
Yikes! Yeah, that sounds like a return for sure.
Pure garbage, I knew I'd been had as soon as I took them out and the refund process is purposefully laborious as to make the buyer say "forget it". Don't, these are shit and they should be held accountable. Don't even think about buying these unless you wanna trade your hard-earned money for hot garbage.
Yeah, I bought mine years ago. I imagine the quality may have dropped -- though it wasn't high to start with. And several brands exist, so reviews help people determine whether to take a chance or not. Thanks for the input.
@@renaissancejames I literally just commented on any video with these in them because I want to dissuade people getting ripped off! I appreciate that yours is older, they may have been better! The ones I got were so poor quality it was like cereal box land. Thanks!
@@carguy3460 Makes sense. I'm almost wanting to buy a new version and compare the two, just to see what changed over the years. Seems like a company "could" make a decent pair of these if they wanted, though maybe the profit margins are just too small, and with so much competition from the junk companies, it might not be worth it.
Kind of like how dashcams are using the same sensors from five years ago. No one wants to invest more currently.
@@renaissancejames Right, that's how they get you! It's a great concept! Maybe it will develop to something that isn't plastic someday lol.
The opposite may be true...the corporations that make big money on eyeglasses may not want this kind of competition.....nor would Opticians, I would think... @@renaissancejames
Total waste of money.
Why?
Hi pressure sales for rubbish stick to your optician
Awww. Sorry you didn't like it, but thanks for commenting. All comments help the videos get more views, so keep watching. :)
These things are TRASH!! RETURNED IMMEDIATELY!!!
Yeah, try the magnifying credit card. It fits in a wallet easy. That's what I use now.
Most rubbish lenses i have ever come across cheap crap.
Yeah, the pair I bought was a few years ago and no longer sold. I imagine the quality may have dropped since.
They are crap total waste of money
Just received the "Adjustable glasses" very flimsy and absolutely do not work. Rip off
Yeah, a lot of junk glasses made now. Which one did you try?
THESE GLASSES SUCK!!!
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY LIKE I DID!!!
It sounds like the quality has dropped over the past few years. Sucks to hear that.
