I guess it's no surprise that the people who abuse email and ruin it for the rest of us would also abuse the legal system against anyone who criticizes them for it. These people sound like they need to be taken down a notch, but it's probably not worth the battle if they don't persist further. Great video.
I really like that Agree and Amplify approach. Sometimes we have to call people on their bad behaviour even if it goes against what the social opinion is.

Put them on blast. I had someone threaten me some years ago about something similar; I blasted them on my blog & shared it everywhere. They started it & there was no implied privacy... they did nothing. I may not be in NYC but I'm a New Yorker also. 😎
Sorry to hear that. I've been there. My suggestion? Don't waste more time than is necessary. Seems to me he is lashing out because he has nothing to lose, i.e. his business is obviously not successful enough for him. He feels he has nothing to lose, and is wasting time being a jerk instead of worrying about his fundamentals.
I say follow through with the advice you've given us. Then if it comes down to it, really like you mentioned, but'em on blast. Let the public know they're not a company to work with and are simply in it for themselves.
I haven't laughed this hard before. Please make it public. I hate those people threatening about lawsuit. 🤣 I will make a video as well supporting you, and they can send me a lawsuit in India where I am based...🤣🤣 Let's make it viral for those media company and give them some PRESS
Love your craftiness Derek! Burning in shame, and wetting his pants is what this video should already achieve. But you already knew that 😏 You being unphased with his nonsense is the cherry on top. Ego is the enemy. Save some energy, and spend your time making awesome content instead 😁 You can always teach him a lesson, if he persists on tormenting you with spams 😎
Not quite the same, but similar... Doing web services - billing a client - 3 months of ignoring, excuses, etc. - no payments .. Finally gave end date - or account would be suspended. He paid, and the payment was rescinded! gave him 24 hours to make good - nadda, bam - suspended account. Finally received payment 2 days later and turned account back on... he moved his account to another host (sometimes the garbage takes itself out)... you don't know how many times my being nice has ended up with me holding the bag and not getting paid. Need to have terms, and stick to them. Nice, yes - just not at the cost of not being able to pay my bills and meet my commitments. In your example, need to make sure the client involved knows what the media company is doing.. wouldn't you want to be notified if happening behind your back? Going all out public? eh, depends on the gravity of the situation..
I just got a call from 202-851-1131 telling me to call them before they start legal action!!!! We never did anything illegal, so I am not worried. The only thing that bothers me is the amount of phone calls we get in any given day.
I'm kinda on the fence about putting them on *public* blast... (although there's a part of me that wants to see that!). But I honestly think reaching out to the person who they are representing to give them a head's up might be in order. If I knew a PR firm representing me was doing dumb stuff I'd definitely want to know...
i think it depends, if this entity is doing it all the time and have done it with many different people etc.... then i think it is our right to know. if it was kind of a "innocent fault, mistake"... then no.. take care
First be nice. I work hard to live by the Four Agreements: Be impeccable with your word. Don't take anything personally. Don't make assumptions. Always do your best. If the guy is just a jackass and that's it then you can move on and be done. That's the joy of the high road. But if they keep screwing around, you can put it all out there. But then you have to keep in mind you're definately kicking the hornet's nest and is it worth your time and energy. If it's all shits and giggles then why not. If its a hassle then why waste your reserves on a douche with a bad twitter pic?
He could've asked nicely - threatening legal action is ridiculous!

Love it, Derek! Solid story with fantastic advice.

Take the high road... The stress of everything that comes along with legal action just isn't worth it.
OMG. Thanks for the comedy. You make my day.
I mean... im of the mindset that if a company is acting like that, it's fair to blast them to warn other about their behavior.
Me too. I don’t even know this person.
I would send him a link to this video and go from there.

This is hilarious. Those emails drive me nuts too.
Oh man, I have been dealing with this but I like the way you responded to them. I may have to try that if you don't mind.
Please do it .... yes

sigh having people like that blast me over and over and they don't even know who you are it crazy or don't even know what is going on.
the best response would be a small escalation that was still aimed at resolving it with a value add for the both of you.
These people are making the reputation of this indutry worse... Do it!

This is a gamechanger in romantic relationships too
I would try being nice one more time and then if he still threatens you then make an example
Fry them.
Follow your own advice and keep us updated, please.
DOOOOOO ITTTTTT 😝

By your own logic you should be nice a few times first. You going to walk your talk?
Maybe it's right to blast them, however the criteria should be to decide is the following: What is the action that will result in the most production?
First be nice. I work hard to live by the Four Agreements: Be impeccable with your word. Don't take anything personally. Don't make assumptions. Always do your best.

I'd blast em, but not before exhausting the opportunity to amicably resolve the dispute.
Not worth your time. Just request that they take you off their distribution list and make a mental note for future business recommendations.
