Could be your best video yet. You have a knack of identifying the truth in plain site but which we can't see until you point it out, then it becomes obvious. It is humbling but very useful. Thanks.

My pitch is to teach people how to make more, sell less, and thus sleep better. So thus I will have previous clients talk about their experiences. How their sales and expenses weren’t enough and it concerned them so they were kept awake worrying about their restaurants. But working with me showed them how to implement systems that increased sales, lowered expenses, and thus were able to sleep better.

    Brilliant video. What I loved:
You took one big idea, explained it, and then gave specific examples in multiple industry types. Nobody got left out.
Loved the nuance of how people want to experience products/services not as a user, but as someone who's already benefiting from them.
Lots to chew on, and I definitely wanna find a way to apply these to my copywriting business. I remember you used to do this at the early stages of Social Triggers with your website tear down videos. That worked pretty well for you, right?
I've even stumbled on a Chrome plugin that allows me to shoot videos and upload right away. Will test it this weekend when I have some quiet time alone.
Thanks a lot for the great video Derek!

"You can't convince anyone to buy anything. You can only figure out what they want and show them how to get what they want with your product." That's gold!

I am a photographer so I should basically make videos on my website/social media showing bts from my previous shoots. It should show how friendly I am while shooting and how easy I make the process of photoshoot by just starting a conversation about their favourite songs, sports etc, cracking jokes in between when needed. What I have experienced is clients always worry less about the final result and more on the process during the photoshoot. You should make them feel like King/ Queen during the shoot. I can also add testimonial videos from my previous clients.

I sell house and land packages, I watched your other video you presented on stage where you outlined how you can get people to practically close them selves, so I intend to use this technique on my marketing of new homes. Great insight !

I'm a freelance copywriter and I'm finding it hard to properly follow-up with my clients after we complete the project - especially for new clients (that I still have a lot of). They're not that eager to share the improvements.
Now, I'm no Clayton Makepeace or Gary Bencivenga when it comes to my copy, however, I think it has potential.
Still, clients often say "Oh, I like this new landing page so much", or "You use your words so well"... and they even give me stellar testimonials!
But for some reason, it's difficult to get high-quality, quantitative data out of them.
I'm sure there a good solution to this problem (that I'm not aware of yet!), but until I find it, I'll probably take your advice and start creating detailed case studies with the process itself.
That still shows how I work and why I can give value to my clients.
So thanks, Derek! Btw, any ideas on how I can get more analytics data or other metrics out of more of my clients in the short-term?

Maybe you can ask them to add you to their Google My Business account as a Site Manager (the lowest level of User). Then you can download the Insights for yourself and take screenshots. ;)
Hmmm now I was hurt to name a video that would walk a business owner through that process so people like you can share it with them. :)
      I hope that helps.

Other than that... Demonstrating the end result via a testimonial is good. Amy Porterfield talks about that using her Beta users. Thanks!

SO. I work in apparel retail while -trying to build- building an online store in my spare time. I show people the size they want, open it up for them, and invite them to try it on themselves. In this case, I'm not sure what else to do next beside getting them as close to what they asked for. I'm currently trying to suggest something outside of their comfort zone once they commit to what they want. Thoughts? I'm still rewatching the video until I have it down.

building a property management rent roll and i am going to get the last 3 clients that we took from other real estate agents and do videos of what we did BEFORE we got the management (they were vacant properties and we did a mini-garden makeover and cleaned up pools etc) to show the value of employing us vs competitors because we get off our bums and protect the value of a clients investment.

Suggestion: When you ask us to do something for you at the end of a video tell us to start with a key word. Eg, using "DereksQuestion"
DereksQuestion: I am a web designer. The way I am going to use a 4-5 step process where they quickly make a website. How it will actually work is first they choose a header image (5 options), they click next and it moves to the next selection, lets say the type of website structure (5 options), and so on and so on. Basically there will be a shit load of premade pages that will be a combination of each of the options selected as the progress through the process.
At the end they have something that they feel they "built" and at the end there will a call to action to make what they built reality.
    Great idea, thanks to you.
    Thank you!

You make is sound so simple. Except for “demonstrability.”
I think I could create a video that demos my website process - show potential clients key success moments in the process where it involves them. I’m also working on changing over from a standard web portfolio to creating case studies which would also include a video testimonial from that client as well as printed testimonial for those prefer to read them.
The story I have to tell on my website must speak to their needs and desires and my product can do that very thing for you. This is probably the most important thing I’ve needed to hear from you! Thanks!

  • @kaneoheS

Hi Derek, thanks man! It's sounds so logical when you explain it, but I probably didn't realise it. In my day job I always give the tip to my team: try to figure out the question behind the question. Exactly like you explain in this video by showing the results of the software / training instead of the software / training it self. People buy tools to get the results they want. Again great video :-)

"Can you provide an example of exactly what my website would look like before I buy it?"
Yes, because the web developer will work for free building a website because he or she is a renaissance man/woman that does this for their sheer enjoyment.
