Yes!! Thank you for making this man! I was not doubting it would be an extremely hard task to get a photo into a mag, but unlikely doesn't mean impossible! All I've been looking for is to how to start getting my foot in the door. Cheers!
@@ShootingDave awesome! I could pick your brain forever dude haha! I see some of the mag covers you showed were in a different language? Was that even more challenging, getting a photo into a mag that's not in English?
Well I used to shoot for a Norwegian magazine as well. They even ran a feature on me haha. They were one of the people that picked me up from Facebook so I don’t really know how hard it is to contact them.
@@ShootingDave Thats awesome! Its definitely an equation of Luck + Skill. I think I'm on the right track, just need to keep putting my work out there! Btw that's me on insta, spamming your feed! hahah - LensFlairPhotos
@@ShootingDave I know a couple photographers that have got their work into magazines, I did have one guy message me regarding shooting his car that I shot at a car show a couple years ago for a magazine shoot but never heard back from him in the end. There's always hope though 👍
I had one time the Luck Falken was writing to me to put some of my pictures in the 30 years Motorsports book. They saw the pic on deviant art. It was so far my bigges success and I got one of the copys of this book. :)
Was just published in Fast Car in the April 2021 edition, it was the black and green RX-7. Sometimes editors reach out to you and sometimes it's the owners of cars that are on the lookout for photographers. I wish this video had existed before I did my shoot has the help on the composition would have been huge. Nice vid dude!
Still on point as it used to be, gotta dmit, I did miss some videos lately. Keep it on, dont sell presets, then you will have a solid authentic future on here. SO many drifted into advertisement and selling presets and stuff...love the way this goes here.
@@ShootingDave And thats nice :) So many guys started kinda like "I am teaching you stuff" and ended up in "I need to make a living, buy my stuff"...I mean I get it...thats youtube I guess...still leaves authenticity on that way...
Great video mate, I’ve been taking my shots more seriously with the aim of one day getting something into a mag. Your vids have helped a lot. I’ve had cars featured before but never had the opportunity to shoot for mags. Working towards it. Cheers. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Dave. Here's a trick, often the magazine will only provide an "info@magazine.com" email address. Try substituting info with the editors name. Often works.
This is less about getting your work into mags and more about what type of photos they might want to use. Getting your images into a mag would require who to contact, what should be in the email, how to find out if the mag has a call out for photos as opposed to sending yours in unsolicited and being ignored. Maybe even some interviews with decision makers to better understand what they are looking for (how to contact, where they go to look for inspiration, etc). Also, expectations vs reality of getting into the mag or cover. Overall, I did not feel like this video lived up to the title.
Hey Jason, thanks for taking the time to comment. Let me answer some of your points. 1; I did address who to contact 2; the emails are rarely formal and more often than not I contact them through Facebook or IG 3; magazines always need new work, in my experience I’ve never seen a call out. 4; I agree interviews would have been amazing and I would have loved to have been able to get than in here. It took a while to get the editors to give me feedback to my questions and I doubt I would have managed to get them for an interview. 5; I’ve only been asked to shoot a front cover option once. I just always shoot for a front cover but I really have no influence over whether or not it will make it. I’ve just been lucky. 6; sorry this didn’t live up to your expectations, I’ll try better going forward. Feel free to message me if you have any more questions.

It’s a good goal to work towards dude. It’s an amazing feeling

Awesome man, being in a book is so cool
@@ShootingDave it is. As you said in your video. Being active in the Community or communities is the key.

Thanks dude, I have no interest in selling presets, I don’t use them at all. I’d rather show people how to edit rather than sell them a preset.

10 seconds for 20 minutes of setup and cleanup. LOL. Thanks man. Love your work!

Thanks man. I could look into it

Yeah that is definitely one way to do it.
When you pitched your first ideas to an editor were you also doing all the writing as well?
No I didn’t, although you can do that with some editors
bro... do you even blink ? btw great video, ive watched all your tutorials
😊🤣🤣 what a strange thing to say. I haven’t noticed that I don’t blink in my videos.
