Dave i've been following you for years, you can't even imagine how i appreciate this kind of tutorials. This is BANG ON what i need to learn, and you just provide it with great example, great instructions and showing a GREAT result. Maybe you could show next how to get rid of metal reflections from when you're shooting outside? I try using the clone stamp but it definetely ends up showing up a pattern, and most times i end up using the brush tool, but then i don't get the shiny metal effect you'd get in a real composed shot like yours! If you go to my IG profile FBFerran there is a picture of a Seat Leon that i took the reflections away, but it looks kinda matte to me, i'd like to know how to do it maintining the look of brightness
@@ferranmunoz4409 Ah I see. I try not to remove too many reflections as it will look matte. I just remove the distracting ones as reflections help define the shape of the car. It takes a little bit of experience to work out which ones should stay and which ones should go.

bonjour, bienvenue, comment ça va? Merci pour le commentaire! Yeah I do this a lot outside too. To match your white balance it is a good idea to find out what the colour temperature is of your light. It should be measured in Kelvin. Then you can set your cameras custom white balance to the same value. Or if you’re outside then you want to look to see what colour the lights are. Street lights are normally 3200k unless they are LED. That’s the way I do it.

Why did my photos "change color" when I impoirt them in photoshop as layers, i know it's something with the color space but how can i fix it ? Great video , very usefull. i hit the subscube button in the moment i saw the final result :)
Thank for the video. I Realy like the thechnique you are using but the final immage im not a 100% shure it somehow looks plasticy but i can dig the style you are going for. I just started with photography and im always looking for some new and fun stuff to try out. :)

Just one question Dave, if you want to portray that the light is from the back of the car 12:31 in the video why the did you want the back wheel to be darker than the front wheel 11:39 in video?
great question, it has been so long that I can't remember. From what I recall, I let the back wheel go darker as you can't see as much rim detail and making it brighter would have meant it would look blown out for no benefit.

Cheers Ben! I don’t shoot much higher than f/8 I don’t see the point. I’ve done it wide open before too. Just depends on the look you want. As for tour other question, yeah, normally the headlights
Make sure your exposure times are the same. Keep your light brightness the same and your distance from the car. All of these will effect how bright your exposure is.
Hey Dave, been a fan of your stuff for a bit, and also I'm active on the Facebook group! I went back and watched your first video, where you explained the magazine cover... and it got me thinking, Do you have any good resources or tips on submitting photos to magazines? Ive only been taking light-painted car photos for about a year, but I have a couple that myself and other people are very impressed by, and I would love to have my photos on a cover somewhere. Any tips you can give to how I should submit to magazines would be helpful! Thanks!
Just found this channel and loving your work! I've been practicing on our own cars we have and I have the same issue with like a dusty line around the back end of the car. I love the technique you have used to correct this around the 12:40 mark in the video, I've tried to use this technique but it fails miserably, even with multiply and somewhere between 50-85% whilst the colour sampled is OK, when I invert the mask and paint it on, the colour output is way too dark. Can you tell me, when you sampled the colour, did you just sample a single point or an average. I would love to be able to try and crack that little golden nugget. Thanks, and keep up the awesome work!
Thanks so much for the comment dude! I appreciate it. As for sampling the colours, I pick the nearest one but I have my brush to 5-20% opacity and slowly build up. I keep sampling as I paint so it blends nicely. If I get enough questions I may do a video on this in the future.
Thats super impressive! How much do you charge for a picture like this to have a reference? Since you need couple hours for both shooting and editing and most clients don't understand the amount of work a single picture needs. They expect $20 for a picture lol
I also would like to know what these guys are charging. I would think I would start around the $300 to $500 mark? I need to make an average of $1000 a day in my work. I doubt I could do this in less than 4 hours.

Yes, I have done this many times outside. It works very well

I always have the problem that some photos have a different exposure. Some suggestions to always get the lighting of the car the same on each shot?
Make sure your exposure times are the same.
Keep your light brightness the same and your distance from the car.
All of these will effect how bright your exposure is.
Hi Dave sorry to worry you again just another question, what happened to the exposure adjustment layer after you used the pen tool?
oh I just delete it, it is only a temporary adjustment.
