Tons of your informational videos have not only something new players should immediately start doing, but something I (with 1,000 hours) also didn't know! Awesome job as always
You can also build your base on the top of the sealed tower in the plains. While you can't build in the center, you can build outwards, circling around the top. Prevents any non-flying creatures from bothering you.
@@emmatpotato It took me about this long to find this out too lol - I only just discovered that like 2 weeks ago. I never though about tar/oil vs fire and never try arrows againstr growths with their natural resistance to pierce. But sure enough, fire is as useful as with the lox as well
I am not sure if you were able to tune in, but when testing this tarred creatures did not become weak to fire damage, not from fire arrows or the fire staff. Always welcome on my discord to look at the other options
@@emmatpotato No I didn't watch anything else yet, but that's odd - I know for a fact that the growths themselves are weak to spirit and fire (though the pierce damage still does half) and die easily with the fire effect on - was it just the tar effect that you tested? I had assumed that it likely made entities also weak to fire, like how being wet also makes you weak to lightning and frost.
I'll be posting a short about it tonight. I did not rest growths, I tested multiple tarred creatures. With both the arrows and the staff of embers. Even tested if there were changes on our own character when tarred or not but except for a slowed speed. No extra damage is received when on fire when tarred. The whole lifestream of me testing this can be found on my twitch from lsat Tuesday
So helpful, thanks! I’ve been struggling with defenses and the spawning part was great info. I’m wanting to join a server as playing on my own is going slow. Do you have any suggestions on how to find one? I’m fairly new 😊✨
Thank you for the kind words. I know the struggle myself so happy to help! Always welcome on my patreon and discord. In general the Valheim community is filled with amazing people. I am sure you will find your way :)!
Thank you ! Well on my server i did some test before and for me the extentions (like for the workbench) didnt increase the spawn proof zone, just the radius of the workbench influence. Workbench with extention still have a 20m radius spawn proof. But i might be wrong :) i'll do some other test i think
Every Tuesday I do Valheim Science on twitch live, we tested this and it does keep out spawns as well. Unless fish are special. We tested it with fish :D. But always check, double check things! I absolutely agree!
@@emmatpotato Ok, good to know. I havent done a lot of tests. What i can remember is that i had issues to block the spawn of the necks in border of the ocean. I think necks (and the squeletons during squeleton surprise events) have different spawns condition and can spawn in swallow water. And for them i had to add more workbenchs even if my extented workbench covered the zone. It was on ashland update so quite recently. I might totally be wrong cause i didnt use a scientific method to create a robust knowledge :)
Hmm yeah it can still be many things, necks can to my knowledge spawn in the water, even a bit deeper. And if there is even the slightest "hole" in your base without a bench cover in. They can still spawn in that spot! I love building giant farms and this has been such a struggle to keep clean. Using wards would be my recommendation, since they can also float! Place it on a beam and then remove the beam
I'm scared to buy this game because I'm 34 yrs old and a single dad and lack time but this game seems cool. Do I have to play this with mouse and keyboard? Does single player feel lonely? I want to play with others but I imagine that has it's own set of problems
If time is not a factor, just wait, Valheim is often in discount so chances are high you can get a good price if you wait for the right timing. It can be played with mouse and keyboard but it is also on console. Single player is different from multiplayer but I would not call it lonely, rather, it can be a bit more challenging when fighting. The Valheim community is very warm and cozy, finding a good group might take a bit of time but there are a lot of wonderful people out there looking for friends to play with :)
First, let me warn you… this game can be a MAJOR timesuck. I’ve had too many nights end at 2 in the morning because of the “just gotta do one more thing” problem. This COULD just be a “me” problem, but I’m guessing others have this issue as well. 😂 Playing with others is definitely more fun, but I find myself doing the “grindy” stuff when I play solo so everything is ready to go when friends join. Keyboard and mouse gives me a much better “head on a swivel” feeling when things get dicey, but my wife loves playing with a controller.
Trolls killed all my boars once and all my wolves except one. Then I killed my only remaining wolf while experimenting with the obliterator for the first time. It was tragic :(
Of course... beams as bridges. Its like the roller pipe gaps ranchers use to keep cows from passing through an open gate. Good idea.
Thank you, we have them here as well! In Valheim we can give them prettier shapes though :)!
A tar moat! How cool! I've never thought of that. Thanks for the idea!
Thank you for liking it! :)
I wonder if enemies that get tared are more susceptible to fire damage, like enemies in water are to frost? I'll have to test that.
ok that boat truck right at the very end was super cool!
Thank you! Not the easiest trick to do alone :D!

Those are amazing compliments, thank you very much! I appreciate it!
Definitely learned a few things! Thank you for making and sharing with us!
My pleasure! I am glad it was helpful and that you liked it :)
Thx so much for the tips, it is good to be reminded of these from time to time, one tend to forget sometimes. :D
Absolutely my thought as well! Thank you for watching!
Fantastic video! I love the variety
Thank you 😁!
I genuinely did not know most of these.. Awesome video, thanks for the info!
Thank you for watching and letting me know! Happy playing!

I'm definitely going to use the beam bridge idea.
Really great video! i definitely learned a couple things
Awesome! Thank you for watching
Damn the jumpscare at 02:12 🤣
As a WW I fan I can say only one thing is proper defence - TRENCHES
5:45 fun fact - tarred entities are weak to fire damage, and you can even 1-shot sneak attack a growth with swamp/iron gear bow and fire arrows
This sounds like something I need to Science tonight, Thank you!

4:37 wow I didn't know this 😮
Me nether, I spawn proofed the area with them for the hardcore live stream I do on Fridays aand noticed during the fight!

one tip is to make your walls higher than yourself so mobs will not see you, they will not aggro if they dont see you, worked me me in the ashlands
Agreed! That is a very good way to keep you safe, archers will also not be able to hit you. I usually go for a bit higher just in case :)
Awesome 🎉 very helpful video thank you
Thank you for watching and letting me know :)!
Great video! What's a good defense to keep out seeker raids?
A combination usually works best. Removing spawns will give you the best results but go wide with the radius
Do wards need to be turned on in order to prevent enemy spawns?
They do not need to be turned on and torches do not need to be lit
idk about the beam bridges trick, i used to use tree logs as bridges xD
Oh dang, well you definitely get a 10/10 for creativity :D!
One problem with tar. If you move the tar inside, it will despawn. You cant make a moat out of it, but you can build next to it.
not sure what you meant with move it inside but tar is indeed not easy to work with
My first thought was: "how are all of those onions planted so close together!?"
they can be planted as close as 1m from each other :)!
Thank you !

I love the bridges. The same technique is used in roads so cows can not leave
Oooh what a nice comparison, yes indeed!
Greydwarf Shamans deleting chunks of crops through round pole fences is what made me dig my first moat. Jerks.
They are so rude, how dare they touch our crops!
Hi Emma, any tips on protecting animals?
Turning off events after fighting Bonemass is the most effective way to protect them (no bats event)
The Tar... Wow. That one I have to use.
Cool right!? I'm glad you like it!

ooh, how sweet, thank you!

I feel the pain, shipping or moving creatures takes a lot of time. And to lose them is so painful 😖
tar is good except the growths, or are they not able to respawn with a player base on it?
If one of the needed "anti spawn" structures is placed near the center you should not get any, yes
Economy is so bad even the Draugrs are being a part time bartender
Haha good one 😂! They are great bartenders too 😁
Untill lava blob invade
Spikes are really good against them ua-cam.com/video/O52SD_ajRWc/v-deo.htmlsi=j1urBt0YK4m9vFYB&t=130
How do I stop the damn greylongs from spawning they trigger me so hard
Dig a moat, add an ai path breaking bridge and add torches or wards to keep our spawns inside. You got this! 💪
@@emmatpotato thanks
@@emmatpotato I did all that with a huge wall now even the troll raid cant get in :) I get it now
Awesome! Good job :)!
