The reason we don’t hear Mariah straight belting the whole time thru a song a lot is because she’s actually said it’s boring, that’s why she plays a lot with her registers and goes crazy with the vocal acrobatics, rather than just sticking to belting strong notes.

Thats all that comes to mind for me maybe someone else has better info lol

That or he just knows the song already but it was further back in his brain than We Belong Together lol. It’s still one of her more popular songs even though it’s not a #1
Starts on the Saturday night, straight from the dancefloor and the clubs to the Sunday morning, church and prayer... Only Miss Mariah Carey can do that💗

Actually her previous records before the emancipation of mimi weren't flop, rainbow for example sold 15 million copies ww, charmbracelet sold almost 10 million , only glitter flopped because it was released within the period of 9/11 , but the emancipation of mimi indeed sold more maybe now 20 million copies

I have been a ride-or-die for Mariah since the beginning. It was between Freshmen and Sophomore year in high school when the debut hit and I was instantly intrigued. Fast forward to 2005 when Emancipation was released. I purchased a copy from Japan that arrived early - before the US release. As with all MC albums, my first listen was in the dark, laying on my bed, headphones on and eyes closed just taking everything in beginning to end. I had heard low-quality leaked copies of It's Like That and We Belong Together a few weeks before this, but it was like hearing them for the first time during this initial album listen. I remember hearing track after track and just smiling ear to ear because every song seemed to be better than the last. Like you pointed out, the production on this album felt both timeless and current all at once, and her vocals were so spot on in every song, even with, and perhaps because of, the small imperfections in the recordings (love the vocal break in the last note of Joyride). What I remember most about the first listen was Fly Like a Bird, and how I just laid there in the dark sobbing as the vocals continued to build - tears running out of my eyes, chills all over my body and the feeling of pure delight feeling the power of Mariah. The album ended with the abrupt cutoff of the end of Fly Like a Bird, the CD stopped spinning (yes, I listened to it on CD in a discman the very first time), and I laid there stunned at the masterpiece I had just taken in. My exact words when I opened my eyes and sat up were "Holy fu
The woman dominated music charts 1990-2000 and still managed to place on the HOT 100 2001-2004. Calling it a comeback is criiiinge. She never left. Forever relevant. She had the #1 song in two different decades- OSD and WBT. 👑
It was an absolutely huge comeback. Albums sales are hard to compare because the music industry changed. But "We Beling Together" was the song of the decade. "Shake it Off" was huge. The R&B markets supported multiple hits.
Its like that is THE BEST intro to the album, like so chaotic at the end, so loud, the best way to COMEBACK literally, and after the song of the 00s decade, and one of the best ballads of all time, even i can say its top 3 for sure.
The Guy you talking about is Jermaine Dupri he and Mariah Carey and Da Brat Been Friends Since the mid 1990s since daydream (1995) which he produced both original and remix to always be my baby which the remix features da brat and the 90s r&b group Xscape Jermaine Dupri Also dated Janet Jackson from 2002-2009
one of THE BEST.....at least MY favorite anyway. Always Be My Baby We Belong Together U Got It Bad Confessions Burn Outta My System Don't ..... and COUNTLESS OTHERS we owe to JD 💐
Oh yeah I think this album is absolutely so super timeless. I feel like most of her albums are (the next one you’ll put out is very much of its time, it’s one of the exceptions), but this one might be the most timeless. The production is so simple and concise yet uniquely Mariah at the same time
I love that she always included the lyrics to her songs with her album/cd. She has been my favorite female artist since she came on the seen. I was in highschool. She was always so gorgeous to me ❤❤❤
They re-released Emancipation once it sold Platinum w/bonus tracks...one being 'Don't Forget About Us', it almost seems part 2 to Don't Forget About Us.
This is the first album I a long time where she did no covers. She was being emancipated and for that all she needs is herself. This is not a pop album it is rated as an RnB and Hip Hop album, it does have some popish sounds like "Say Something" but it also has a lot os Soul and Gospel so pop is not even considered a minor genre touched in the music. This was just at her best proving why she had been a Queeen for an entire Decade. It extended her reign and still makes her the only artist in history to have multiple song denominated "Song of the Decade". The Emancipation of Mimi is widely known in the industry as the biggest comeback in music history, 10 million copies sold worldwide. 2 #1 songs, made her the first artist in history to hold the 1st and 2nd position simultaneously in the Billboard Hot 100, WBT stood atop the Hot 100 for 14 weeks, the album became a success worldwide, 11 Grammy Nominations, reintroduced Mariah Carey to a new generation and cimented her as a true legend. People somehow had forgotten who was Marah Carey as a singer, a songwriter and a producer, this proged Mottola she needed nothing from him to be succesful. When this came out he actively stopped working against her and using some other female, no need to name her we dont really know her, we know of her but thats it
Hey, huge Janet fan here. You've seen me comment on a few of your Janet reactions. A few details I wanna share. Janet and Mariah are actually friends in real life and she was in Janet's documentary a few years ago. Anyway with the emancipation of mimi album, her few albums before weren't selling like they used to because she wasn't singing like usual. Her producer was Jermain Dupri who worked on many Usher albums and dated Janet Jackson. Usher told her she was whispering too much and we were tired of hearing it. That made her get back into her bag and really sing. My favorite track off this album is "Fly Like A Bird". Her vocally acrobatics and agility in that song can't be touched. The live Grammy performance is fire and she went off!🙌🏼

To witness this album come out…after everything that happened…words can’t describe..you heard this album everywhere..people who “didn’t like Mariah” would play the album! Joy ride is heaven sent…every song…no skips!!!
Not exaggerating: This album was on REPEAT for MONTHS when it came out. It was one of the few good things that happened that year (my father died, my sister got hospitalized, starting college with ZERO money...etc.) Thanks MIMI Also: I reacted similarly the first time I listened to Mine Again. It's so raw I'm glad she does not sing it in its entirety live because it demands vocal wreckage LOL. One of the most underrated songs in this album!
This is the first Mariah album after Emotions that had no covers. It's highly understandable why this album marked the biggest comeback in the industry. Just listen to the whole album - amazing productions, incredible vocals, great song choices, barely no skips (except for To The Floor because most lambs hate it including me lol). Next is E=MC². I'm kinda scared because the album isn't nearly as good as TEOM, but this album also has no covers, and it was just Mariah having fun.
Mine again and circles is my fave on this album of many and the part of the long note ur talking about out is her Belting ability, after glitter she stopped belting Mine again was her at her best belting like the early 90s Mariah that's why I like that so much, along with most of the album but she said she don't like to belt before, I think it's hard on her voice! And that fart and that look of yeah I did it u gave had me cracking up!!!the Felix is even better and she has another one with twista that's even better then one and only!
Great review. You must be listening to the Dolby at,os version of this album as the original version of the album skewered the swear words. My mouth literally dropped hearing the cursing when you got to one and only on this album
im pretty sure some of her singles that were over 4 minutes long, were edited to be shorter for radio play so alot of the long songs you reacted to were the album versions back then
It’s not a sample now other people have sampled this Mariah song. You’re talking about vocal acrobatics the songs aren’t called to have just strong belting. She has plenty of songs she’s belting in. That’s part of her vocal producing she does .
26:10 so funny you said this reminded you of Bangerz. When the Neptunes (Pharrell is in that group) produced this song and also produced that song your referencing.
Where are you getting this version from?? I’ve NEVER heard the explicit version of ‘One and Only’. It’s always been blurred out. Tried looking at iTunes and it’s still scrubbed on those. I need this version.
jermaine dupri is considered by many (including mariah in a way) as her musical husband. he’s to mariah what jack antonoff is to taylor (kinda). they’ve been working since always be my baby on daydream. also, emancipation has a lot of writing credits cause she samples a lot. but as most of her songs, the lyrics are almost always written by herself alone.
She didn’t really take a huge break between Charmbracelet and The Emancipation of Mimi. She was promoting and touring for Charmbracelet until end of February 2004 and by the time she finished touring she was already recording The Emancipation of Mimi, because touring brought her voice to a very good place. She then announced the album title on November of 2004. She used to pop an album out almost every year before that so it seems like she took a big break but I wouldn’t say it was big at all.
‘Say somethin’ and ‘To the Floor’ were produced by The Neptunes which is a legendary production duo made up of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo. The reason Say Somethin sounds similar to that Miley song is because The Neptunes produced that song as well, and funny that you said To the Floor and Hot in Herre would be a good matchup because The Neptunes ALSO produced that song!
There might’ve been 2 ways u could’ve heard Shake it off. The first is it was a #2 hit, and it WOULDVE been a #1 but We Belong Together blocked it from being #1 lmao. Talk abt iconic. So it was still a massive hit and u might’ve heard it at the time, in fact it would be weirder if u hadn’t heard it since it was such a big hit in the US lol. Anyways, the second way u might’ve heard it is because Bryson Tiller actually sampled this song in his song “Don’t” which actually was also a pretty big hit and trended on TikTok SEVERAL times, it’s one of the more known TikTok sounds actually so that might also be why the melody feels rlly familiar to u.
About the TikTok brain 🤣, it's impossible for Mariah to cut long songs like 'Everything Fades Away', 'The Beautiful Ones', ' Till The End Of Time', etc. It's more like a journey throughout the song; the emotion, tension, and resolution can't be compressed into a 30-second clip, as that doesn't allow enough time for the music to build up and for listeners to truly enjoy the journey. (I know there are some repetitive choruses that weren't necessary, but that's how she envisioned the songs).
Nooo that’s my table! It’s an extendable round table, the ends hang off and they squeak when I bump into them 💀 You can hear it in almost all of my videos hahah
If you talking about selling you have to look back to many periods. 97 to 99 it's Britney pop combine spice girl waves Late 99 latin dance stormed chart Divas last big hit was in 98 2000 electro pop hits in eu but hiphop urban in us 2001 pop + rock joined chart US Charts still mainly black all the decade
Shake it Off peaked at #2. The only reason it wasn’t #1 was because We Belong Together was hogging the top spot. She blocked herself from another #1 😅
She blocked herself 1 week.. The song spent another 5 weeks at #2 Kanye West blocked the song for those 5 weeks

You are thinking Nelly Furtado....lol.....hahaha
Mine again and circles is my fave on this album of many and the part of the long note ur talking about out is her Belting ability, after glitter she stopped belting Mine again was her at her best belting like the early 90s Mariah that's why I like that so much, along with most of the album but she said she don't like to belt before, I think it's hard on her voice! And that fart and that look of yeah I did it u gave had me cracking up!!!the Felix is even better and she has another one with twista that's even better then one and only!
LOL I believe you were thinking of "I'm Like a Bird" by Nelly Furtado (when you got to Fly Like a Bird)
Greatest comeback album of all time!!!!
The guy you keep hearing is Jermaine Dupree. He did a lot of Mariah's cd.
Fly Like A Bird is a vocal s*icide, her hardest song ever
It’s not though
I wonder if you recognize JD from The One on Charmbracelet where he did the spoken introduction.
Where are you getting this version from?? I’ve NEVER heard the explicit version of ‘One and Only’. It’s always been blurred out. Tried looking at iTunes and it’s still scrubbed on those. I need this version.
It was on Apple Music! Patreon members said Dolby atmos or something?!
Next album up, my favorite track is ‘Side Effects’ It’s the first time she’s written about her first divorce.
Apple Music Dolby Atmos
Literally can u believe songs like mine again or stay the night were ever made and sang?? They’re almost impossible to cover. Hands down for Mariah.
jermaine dupri is considered by many (including mariah in a way) as her musical husband. he’s to mariah what jack antonoff is to taylor (kinda). they’ve been working since always be my baby on daydream.
also, emancipation has a lot of writing credits cause she samples a lot. but as most of her songs, the lyrics are almost always written by herself alone.
Love this insight, thank you!
The reason Say Somethin sounds similar to that Miley song is because The Neptunes produced that song as well, and funny that you said To the Floor and Hot in Herre would be a good matchup because The Neptunes ALSO produced that song!
the best album ever
That's a song from Nelly Furtado hahahahah "I'm Like A Bird" that was older song than this MC's.
I'm here for your facial expressions.
Maybe "Shake it off" Reminds you of "Breakdown" with Bone thungs N Harmony
The imperfections you are referencing are called vocal fry and very intentional to evoke yearning
The song you were thinking of like a bird is by Nelly furtado
Joy ride is my fav from the album 🔥🔥🔥😍
No cover. This was Mimi.
reactions aside, I think that you’re a real cutie 🙈
#GETITRIGHT and Say Something was both produced by Pharrell
Kanye West probably produced Stay the Night. Remember this was 2005 before all the taylor drama lol
Calling this album pop is making me itch. This is an R&B album through and through, baby. 😂
Good job
you should react to It's Like That music video and We Belong Together. it's a part one part two videos
See your tripod!?? Jacob!!
It’s a box of cliff bars and a stack of books…
@jacobreacts guess you didn't go to the gutter with me lol
@@einalemmorttub8542 Not going to lie, I did laugh 💀
I'm baffled too that Say Something never went #1 maybe just don't like perfect expensive songs 😂
Wait why IS your version of "One and Only" explicit??? Asking for a friend 😂
She updated it recently on streaming
@@kevinadam6088 are there explicit versions of the songs with Da Brat features, too? this could be life changing if so XD
13:06 it was honey
Not loving it’s like that is a crime … you’re going to jail sir 😔sorry
Leave him alone 😂 i actually didnt like it at first either but i love it now lol i feel like its a grower
😂😂😂😂😂
And Don’t Forget about us???
Coming soon!
And then "Gold Digger" showed up and blocked.
What where is don't forget about us
That’s a song from the deluxe/ platinum version so it’s not on the standard and he’s (first) reacting to the standard edition, that’s the reason ☺️
Subtitles please 🇧🇷
21:01 farted
Nooo that’s my table! It’s an extendable round table, the ends hang off and they squeak when I bump into them 💀 You can hear it in almost all of my videos hahah
@ caught you Jakey
How come you did not do the ultra Platinum edition with the other six songs you're missing out.
I said why in the video. I will react to it in another video
@jacobreacts ok
The I’m like a bird song is by Nelly Furtado
Time stamp people slacking
If you talking about selling you have to look back to many periods.
97 to 99 it's Britney pop combine spice girl waves
Late 99 latin dance stormed chart
Divas last big hit was in 98
2000 electro pop hits in eu but hiphop urban in us
2001 pop + rock joined chart
US Charts still mainly black all the decade
