This album started off in the club, and ended up in church. Mariah fans are VERY familiar with her ability to have you MIGRATE your way emotionally from one to the other. Welcome to the Mariah Rabbit Hole. I was a fan of hers since I first heard Vision of Love in the summer of 1990 and thought "oh wow, Whitney's new song is fire!!" Had no idea until I saw the video that it wasn't Whitney Houston singing that song, but some new girl named Mariah Carey. And it was a done deal from there. She ruled the 90s. Her music was the soundtrack of my childhood. I'd say her powerhouse vocals were in that first decade of her career. She was already a great lyricist, since she wrote and co-produced every song on her debut album. But she truly came into her own in the 2000s, when she started experimenting more with her sound, and her voice changing over the years as a result of all that work she put in. If this was more your cup of tea than her earlier stuff, I recommend her three albums from that time period that I believe you'd enjoy: E=MC2, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, and Caution. That being said...the 90s kid in me would be remiss in not telling you that you're doing yourself a great disservice by not going through a journey of her catalog from the beginning. :) Enjoy, and looking forward to your next one!
First i have to say it was a pleasure watching you get entranced by the many talents of our Mariah Carey. Prolly the best part is the unexpectedness of it all, cuz Mariah aims to touch you in so many different & surprising ways. This album was considered a historic comeback back in its day. So glad to see through your reaction this album still retained its original fun, jubilant spirit and heartfelt, profound joy. An album packed with great songs that only MC can bring !! ❤🎉😊
So I used to be meh about Mariah but my husband who’s a bit older (same age as MC) really gave me a lot of the insights into the parts of her life as they coincided with her albums and they make you appreciate them even more. This album coming after her movie flop and mental breakdown and Charmbracelet where she didn’t really siiiiiiiing like she used to, it was huge for her long time fans. She was not only emancipating herself on the dance floor, but it’s really about her saying she’s tired of the haters and everything and she’s just gonna do whatever she wants because she can. And she was finally SINGING again. Fabulous. Also: the bass player on this album is Randy Jackson. Yes, THAT Randy Jackson. He has been playing for Mariah since the beginning of her career. Similarly Butterfly came right after her very public divorce from her ex who essentially treated her like property. She wasn’t allowed to tap into her black side in her music because the label wouldn’t let her. So Butterfly was her finally being allowed to do the music she wanted to, embrace her black side, and again, be free to venture into the sound she really wanted to do from the beginning. I highly recommend trying that one again with that context - it honestly makes me cry thinking about her in that time and how liberating that album was for her. Loved watching this and seeing Mariah get the love she truly deserves 🙌🙌🙌

I know this video is a little bit old now but if you ever feel like it go back and watch the music videos for 'its like that ' and 'we belong together '. The music videos are connected. We have Beyoncé, Ariana, Tori Kelly, Jojo and Jazmine Sullivan I know. But no one will ever beat Mimi's flow and cadence and her bars. She's crazy, a megastar but still under appreciated especially now.

We belong together was the song of the decade on Billboard for the 2000’s. She is the only artist to have the #1 song of the decade twice. (90’s, 2000’s)
Ooh i knew it was a major song but didn’t know all that
I think AIWFC will be song of the decade for 2020 - 2030
This album is a masterpiece. No wonder it is the greatest comeback of all music history.
Yayyy, so glad you enjoyed it and got it.
I think for you "Caution" and "Me I am Mariah, The elusive chanteuse" are albums that could work for you as well.
My very first CD 😌 this album will always have a special place in my heart
Amazing album ❤ thank you for reacting!!
I know this video is a little bit old now but if you ever feel like it go back and watch the music videos for 'its like that ' and 'we belong together '. The music videos are connected.
That is the reason you kinda get those 2 conflicting vibes in songs lol. I'm not all the way through this video yet but I'm happy you are experiencing Mariah Carey. She has been one of my favorites for many many many many many many years now and I love this album a lot. She's one of the OG's for a reason lol. I'll most likely go and listen to it again myself now as well lol
Thanx for that reaction to Mine again. It's explosive.
So for Your Girl she uses a sample and the different voices are Adeaze and the song is A Life Without You
We have Beyoncé, Ariana, Tori Kelly, Jojo and Jazmine Sullivan I know. But no one will ever beat Mimi's flow and cadence and her bars. She's crazy, a megastar but still under appreciated especially now.
One of my favortie albums ever ! It almost always fits the vibes ✨️
fr it’s so good
There is something about this Era, I still remember seeing the cover of the album for the first time, it was really impactful, it was not just another album. That truly was the album of the year. It had the power of Mariah from the 90s but with a new vibe.
Everyone in the world needs to listen to this album its a masterpiece
this is one of my favorite album of hers. My favorites are Fly like a bird, i wish you knew, circles, mine again, it's like that, we belong together. She is an amazing vocalist. Her voice is heaven ✨😌🦋
You should check out We Belong Together/Fly Like A Bird live performance from the Grammys. Especially Fly Like A Bird, the performance was glorious and truly showcased her vocal
You have a great delivery! :)
So glad tour best reaction was to "Joy Ride"! That songs deserves so much more recognition
I still watch this every once in a while. This is my therapy now 🙃
Aww 😭🩷
Good music is good music no matter what year it’s from Mariah is timeless and will never go out of style!!!!!!!!!!!
Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel is a great album too, maybe doesn't have the same vocal highlights but great storytelling and consistent vibes
I love watching your reaction. I enjoyed listening with you.
QUEEN MARIAH. Its like That video is AWESOME
it's interesting that you didnt love daydream and butterfly, but then u loved Mine and Circles which i think of emancipation are more like those albums. this album is so great, a classic for a reason !!!
