      My vote would be for the 48. They are identical in every way except the 48 has about .5" longer slide. So from my viewpoint there's a negligible weight difference and you get a little longer sight radius. Now, those are my "by the numbers" reasonings, but really I just prefer something a little more beefy in the hand and the 43/43x feel just too small. But that's all personal preference. And honestly, if you buy the 43x and aren't a fan, in most scenarios it's a new enough gun you could trade it to a LGS for a 48 straight up or maybe be out another $50-$100.

    At first I thought the 48 was a stupid idea but after thinking about it I can see why someone would want to carry it.
    Right now I alternate between a Shield and a gen4 G19. The Shield is so easy to conceal and super comfortable as well. The G19 is a bit harder for me to conceal but still doable. At times the bulkiness of it feels uncomfortable though. The width especially is very obvious with an IWB setup. I find myself wanting to carry the Shield more because of how slim it is. I have medium to large hands and can grip the G19 fine but it still feels chunky.
    Then the G48 comes along. It has the slim profile that I like in the Shield with the benefit of 2-3 more rounds and a longer sight radius. I carry my Shield with the 8 round mag which makes the grip the same length as the G19 so the G48 wouldn't be adding any grip length either.
    So the way I see it, the 48 is a nice middle ground between the Shield and the G19. I sacrifice 5 rounds for more comfort but for me 10+1 is good enough and feels better than having 8+1. Just my two cents.
    Thanks for the video, brother.

      You know what? I had not thought about it in these terms but you are absolutely right. This thing does sit right between my Shield and my G19. I love them both, but had pretty much been splitting the difference by carrying a G26 with a +2 floorplate on it. But then my little brother, who is still working, talked me out of mine for Christmas.
      The G19 was my last duty weapon when I was a cop, and to be honest, there isn't a hell of a lot wrong with it. But now that I'm retired and try to stay out of trouble, most days I find myself carrying something a little smaller. I'm not sure if I would get one of these G48's since I have the Shield and I'm probably good with 9 rounds plus a reload, but I can see where someone might choose it. If I was still on the job, I'd still be carrying either the G19 or G26 on or off-duty.

      You literally explained my thought process perfectly. I love my g19 but find myself carrying the shield more because of the thickness. When I first saw the 43x/48 I disregarded it as pointless. When I heard about the s15 mags it kind of helped sell me on it, hopefully they prove to be reliable. I however am going g43x because my 19 after awhile digs into me while sitting from having a longer slide length than the shield.

  • @GUARDIAN.13
    @GUARDIAN.13 5 років тому +16

    I am selling my 19. I shoot the 48 wayyyyy better due to the grip of it and my short fingers. 10 rounds of gold spear dot still makes me feel comfortable with any application and minus mags and mag catch my 43 componants are able to he used in it. The grip thickness reminds me of a 1911 and I've always shot slimmer pistols better.

    No fair!!! I was told I couldn’t take a G48 or G43x home till Monday, Glock asked dealers to hold them till then. I agonized over it for a while, and got the G48 first. Mine is the Night sight version that adds about $75 to the price. These new models are way more comfortable to the hand, and point more naturally, then the G43.
    I see it as replacing the G26/Shield/XDs/ etc.

    Glock had specifics in mind as far as concealed carry when they design the 48 I have one and it fits very smoothly under clothing the idea of the smooth texture is so that does not snag on anything when you're trying to draw it in a hurry. if you're going to open carry you might as well carry your good old dependable Glock 19.

      I agree the mags are underloaded to 10 rounds for the good of the people's republic. They are 10.5 Rd mags as is. They aren't a full stagger though so I'd say +1 will probably stay flush and then overhang for 2 or more.

      @@jhelmsing It's hard to call the 48 a little gun. It's basically a 9mm 1911, glock style. I handled one in the store and I felt the additional width in the frame helped fill my hand over the 43, and I I think it will fit perfectly in the hand for a LOT of people. The only downside here is that it doesn't have full double stack magazine capacity, but as a civilian CCW or police backup gun either of these could fill the role brilliantly.

    Good review. I’m not sure the G48 or G43X are right for me. The G19 Gen 5 has been perfect for my training and EDC use. I think Glock released these for the increase in people getting conceal carry permits and want something slim to carry. With the number of 10 round limit states too, I think it will sell well. I've had G19 gen3 since 2001 when my agency finally wised up and authorized Glocks. I retired in 2003 then 2005 I returned as a courtroom deputy and continued to use my 19, then one day a decision was made that we all had to carry the Glock 22, it was a game changer for me because I never witnessed a Glock malfunction, it did with our issued ammo. I retired for good in 2014 and eventually bought a Glock 43. It was to small to draw smoothly from concealment and I couldn't shoot it worth a damn. I sold it and went back to a small frame 38 for warm weather and when it's cooler my trusty Glock 19. I now have a 48 on lay away I'm hoping it's an improvement over the 43 I got rid of. But like the title of this GOOD video says don't trade in your 19 just yet, that's a mouthful and believe me that 19 gen3 is hard to beat. I also have an Advantage Arms 22lr conversion unit for mine and for backyard practice an Umarex Glock 19 gen3 BB Gun.

    I see the G48 as a nice option for those with smaller hands - in particular thinner women. My Wife shoots my G19 fine, but does think it's a bit bulky, and doesn't like the more aggressive grip texture. I plan on renting a G48 for her to try out at my gun club after they get one. I can see it as a perfect fit for a lot of women - and certainly a better option than the diminutive, hard to control semi-autos that too many gun salesmen steer women towards.

    I’m also in law enforcement. I carry a gen4 Glock 22 on duty which I love. I wanted to pick up a new concealed carry gun recently. I looked at both the Glock 48, and 43x but they just did not feel right in my hand, and I did not want to give up capacity. I looked at the Sig P365 but the grip was just to small. Glock 19 is just a little big to carry concealed. I ended up going with the FNS-9c.

    Did you have any issue with the stock sights? I found that my G48 has too tall of a front sight. When aligned properly the point of impact is way low. I find if I align the sights with the rears about 2/3 rds of the way up the front instead of a flat straight line it's about right.

    • @jhelmsing
      @jhelmsing  5 років тому +2

      @@MDpolo I can't say that for sure, it all depends on your preference. The 48 carries more comfortably because it is thin. The 26 carries like a hockey puck. The 26 has a better trigger, better grip texture for shooting, better recoil control and can take larger mags without issue. Those are the reasons I'd side with the 26 over the 48.

    • @MDpolo
      @MDpolo 5 років тому

      J Helmsing many thanks J. I'm in agreement. The only thing I dislike about the 26 is the thickness. I shoot it well although I only have 1 box through it.

    Did you know that there is now a Shield S15 G43X/G48 15 round metal magazine that fits them flush. Getting excellent reviews so far. Range reviews are also good on the G43X. Shield recommends that you switch to the anodized black metal mag release they also make because the metal magazine can possibly wear on the factory magazine release over a period of time. The standard Glock mag will work fine using the metal mag release. There are also G43X's with standard black uppers now. I really like mine so far. It won't replace my G19 but does have it's place as a carry handgun.

    • @jhelmsing
      @jhelmsing  5 років тому

      This is an interesting point. Frankly, Glock gives me pause putting the front serrations and removing the cutout from those models before they rolled out (the two major gripes about the Gen 5). The Glock of yesteryear would have told us to shove it and tabled the idea until the next generation minimum especially since the Gen 5 only recently released. I think it shows to some degree that the pressure from other manufacturers is effecting them. I'm sure some of the executives are still lying passed out on a conference room floor over the MHS loss. It's also interesting that they seem to be steering people to their MOS guns. I think perhaps at some point the MOS guns may be the only model and just become standardized. The Gen 5 34 comes in no other flavors as it is. Their thinking is if you don't use an optic just leave the plate on and I can't say it's an entirely bad strategy.
