I apologize for the picture on this video. Experimenting with new cameras and this one does not work well indoors. At least the audio is better and the audio/video are in sync. Stay tuned to the channel. Future vids will be much improved as I now have access to a better camera, editing software and action cameras for shooting footage 😲 2019 will be a year of growth. Thanks for your continued support!
Great review. Love my 17L. It is one of the easiest and fastest pistols for me to shoot in the sub $800 category which is my personal limit on a daily carry pistol. It eats +P 124’s like a champ and since I live on a farm it gets to do a little work on predators. The exit wounds are impressive. The trade off of bulk vs sight radius & extra velocity is well worth it for me. I would consider hunting with this pistol as well. I believe it would do a good job on deer at the appropriate distance.
Great gun to open carry. Soft shooting with higher muzzle velocity’s. Very accurate. It looks cartoonish but it isn’t much heavier than a standard Glock 17 or 34. It’s a Glock therefore it is a “go to war” weapon. If you drop a aftermarket trigger into it and different sights if you swing that way. Mine is next to me right now on the nightstand with a light.
I use my G17L as home defense peace keeper in my ( nightstand) ..shooters at the range are always intrigued by it. What a blast to shoot and extremely accurate as is my G34. Great on point review
Great review. In a nutshell what I hear is it will be outclassed in a competition by the tricked out guns but if you want a gun that will hit what you point at.....this is the gun.
If anyone is on the fence on getting a 17L, go for it. They're currently back in production as of early 2024. Just took mine out for the first time today and agree with J, it's a soft and fun shooter. Had a BB gun of it as a kid, and thankfully the real one doesn't disappoint! Just gonna put adjustable targets sights on it for a 90s steel shootin' type build, and call it a day. It's a keeper.
Great review as usual. I have the G40 gen4 MOS 10mm and absolutely love it. The 17L would certainly be a great pistol to add for days at the range. TWO THUMBS UP. 👍👍
I used to think the recoil spring as the same. According to Glock the 17L and 40 have 17 lb springs while mostly all other stock recoil springs are 18 lb. I was surprised.
I hear a lot about factory Glock sights being bad. Maybe it’s because I learned to shoot on a Glock but I feel hands down the white U shape rear and front dot are a vastly superior to a lot on the market...including 3 dot
I have only seen one 17l be4 in person. But during that time I was never into glock with long slide I thought I was crazy and ugly in the state of mind. But as time goes by I'm actually getting into long slide glocks. My 3 glocks are model 29, 22, & 34. However if I can start over I'll go with all the long slide glocks in each caliber starting with the 17l, 24, 40, & 41. But since I've got my 3 glocks I don't tend to keep buying glocks when their is so much maker out their to buy too
@KSGunGuy - suggestion: It would be awesome if you had @J Helmsing as a guest on one of your 3 Guy Gun Chats. I really enjoy his channel. Thanks brother and cheers!
I've been watch your channel quite recently on vids like glock 48, fn 509 & sig x carry and I got curious about other particular firearms so I type in glock 17L and I guess great minds think alike when your video is only a couple days old, great video keep up the good work..
A Gen 5 17L with factory Glock threaded barrel, a stupid huge comp and light, and RMR is what I have dreams about. Glock needs to stop marketing these to competitive shooters and instead to regular shooters as a defensive and range gun, What an awesome suppressor host a 17L would make.
I like Glocks...yet dislike them at the same time. I have owned and traded numerous models across all generations. The whole "Glock Perfection" thing is definitely in terms of their durability and reliability. But I am starting to think that there are models that are "perfect" for each individual out there. Just picked up a Gen 2 17L and I am amazed by it. It doesn't feel like you are shooting a Glock at all.
Typically, I prefer my weapon light to extend past the barrel. 🤣 Not going to happen here! I'm surprised that Glock put a rail on this one! Many prefer the trigger break on the Gen3's over the Gen4's, so it's a good thing that Glock decided to leave well enough alone. That said, I might skip the G34 unless I go for the MOS version over them both. Good video, J!
I own a 17L. I have Dawson Precisions fiber optic front, blacked out rear sight. I also switched out the factory extended mag release for a Tango Down extended mag release, the factory version was a little sharp.Really dig the gun. I plan to use it in USPSA Limited. Great channel sir, really excellent content! Stay groovy!😎✌️
Meanwhile, it's May 2024 and Glock has announced the new G17L Generation 5 ❗ I love mine, sold my G34 MOS because I like the overall feel of the 17L better. Slightly smoother, just a slightly nicer recoil feeling. Rest in Peace Gaston Glock 🇩🇪🥀 1929 ~ 2023
Not sure why someone would want that much muzzle to manage on a bedside gun, but different strokes. I put the minus connector in all but the smallest CCW Glocks. As a LEO, have you ever heard of legal issues with running that setup in a self-defense gun that had to be used? Good Vid, keep them coming
I've actually never heard of anyone being crucified in court over their choice of weapons. I know Mass Ayoob preaches that "what if" scenario but I don't think it has ever gained serious merit in court. Now, I wouldn't recommend using a S&W 500 magnum or anything but I'd say you just need to be able justify what you used what you used. In this case: why is the barrel so long? Because it makes it more accurate and I don't want to harm innocent bystanders.
"Because it makes it more accurate and I don't want to harm innocent bystanders" It's amazing how few folks in the gun world seem to grasp this concept. I appreciate your straight forward style, thanks.
Won't fit in regulation box⚠️👎?!! . Consider who make the rules?. Who is connected ? to and can effect rules? Maybe the NRA didn't like Glock producing a 6" barrel so protected the US 911 users . Came up with a BOX rule. I've seen this back room, good ol boys push out to favor their people, in many sports, motor sports. It's infuriating. It has a 6.02", not 6.2" barrel. Good sober presentation 👍 BUT I own a Glock 17L because of size, unique design, max performance from 9mm, unicornish, for farm field long range target, varmint control, deep woods defence, garding farm animals. My G17L is a June 2014 production that I bought new in box in April 2022. Yes, you can still buy them👍 Live free or die NH.☮️👍🇺🇦☮️✌️🇺🇲😅 Update May 2024 Glock announced the introduction of the G17L Generation 5 ❗ Happy days are here again
Dude…..the source of the “bump in the night” is not going to give a rats ass about the added inch or two on your barrel. First, he won’t see it and second if he does he’ll be staring DOWN the barrel and not admiring a side view. Stop with that tough guy tacticool crap - it doesn’t work and it’s distracting. Whether you “outgun” anyone has nothing to do with the size of your barrel - NOTHING. if it did, every LEO would be carrying one. Skill derived from training is way more important.
When you said that most people throw their original Glock sights in the garbage, I stopped watching... At that point, I knew there was going to be nothing of value for me here. Almost everyone on our department loves their Glock sights, a few put night sights on but that's about it.
I don't know a single serious competitive shooter that uses stock Glock sights. They may be out there, which is why I said "most". This is a competition gun. Also, most of my department uses the stock siglite night sights on their guns. It's not because they love them.
Also, and this is nothing against you, but these comments drive me nuts. If you have a valid reason to stop watching my channel that's fine, I'm all ears and willing to listen and improve. If you stop watching my channel because of one small comment, first off that's extremely petty and secondly you're taking me way too seriously. I don't do this for money and this is not my job, I just give reviews from my own opinion and perspective so that they may help others. If you can't listen to someone who has an opinion different than yours, especially in something this small, then I question why you watch reviews when your mind is obviously already made up. Again this is not to you directly, but I've seen a trend with comments like this.

I love this channel! Simple, to the point, informative and. Doesn’t feel like I’m being sold a product or an opinion. Keep up the good work!

Only 2 oz more almost nothing.
Does the light illuminate the underside and cast a shadow

have the gen3 17lL, will never sell it
(Joker) “Where does he get those wonderful toys”
Gonna buy this in a few months. I was concerned about accuracy...but at this point i just want it for its looks.
Always enjoy your channel. Good detailed reviews. I’ve never seen the G17L so enjoyed the review. Thanks.
Have 2 of these puppies. Never getting rid of them. Awesome shooters
Good choice same with me, I shoot the best with these.
I’ve been wanting one but they’re never in stock anymore :(
You still want?
I used to think the recoil spring as the same. According to Glock the 17L and 40 have 17 lb springs while mostly all other stock recoil springs are 18 lb. I was surprised.
IMO this is the best Glock to put inside a brace like an Endotactical or Recovery Tactical. It will basically be a lighter carbine!
I hear a lot about factory Glock sights being bad. Maybe it’s because I learned to shoot on a Glock but I feel hands down the white U shape rear and front dot are a vastly superior to a lot on the market...including 3 dot

Had to sell mine years ago, it was an awesome 50 m pistol. will get another one eventually. It was used by the GSG9
I have an Agency Glock 17L & it’s sweet….just subbed👍
Just bought one 2 days ago and can’t wait to get it in. I am thinking about customizing it. Upgrading sights and trigger first
Clint Hymes really? Where’d you done yours? I been wanting one!
Interesting, good info - thanks for the channel ...
This is my favorite glock hands down, anytime I go to the range it comes with me. Just the look people gives this gun alone is worth it.
does it mean 17l got less felt recoil than g34?
My man on a roll!!
ooow a new pocket pistol ! im gonna need bigger pockets .................................................................................
Very nice Jay. Well, the difficult part to conceal is the grip... ;-)

Why is it a "awesome suppressor host". An already long pistol with suppressor ???

Will do! I plan on doing some chapter 2/3 work as well!

@@jhelmsing There was once a case where some get into trouble because he did use 10mm in self defense. Paul Harrell did make a whole video about that.
Good review as usual. I have a question for you. Where did you get the magnets to hold your mags?
They are actually tool magnets I got off eBay, just look up magnetic strips
Another good one !!
Dope
Glock 17L or G34 for combat?
G17L!
Ok thanks👍🏻
both, the G34 is fucking awesome too
Pretty much same fun, right? Minor length difference. And the Gen 5 34 doesn’t have the cutout.
Did you pay your tax stamp for that SBR ? Lol. Great video. Thanks for the knowledge.
Range gun and bedside gun?
I bought a 17L barrel for my G17 to put in my MCK
Where can you get these today?
Anyone know of any 3rd party slides that mimic the 17L? 6 inch barrels too? I want to make one for myself

I thought it's been discontinued 2 generations ago, that's why you can only fine them in Gen 3 configuration.

Glock announced the introduction of the G17L Generation 5 ❗

Obviously bigger is better
It would be nice if Glock came out with a GEN-5 17L pistol...I'd be all over it...!!!
They didnt even make a gen4 version of it yet. The new production 17L are still gen3.
the new gen 5 are here. best shooting glock i have ever owned. even better with a holosun scs mos that fits directly on the slide. 😊
Imma Glock man. Own several but I’ve gotta say… this is the ugliest Glock I’ve ever seen. The symmetry is awful. The aesthetics??? 🤦🏽♂️
The L stands for Long Schlong
😂 wtf
The real unicorn is the G24, which is a 40sw with a .4 longer slide. I shool mine in GSSF, Glock matches.
Ok, great gun, but how stupid ugly is that thing?

Nice, but finding a holster may be tricky.
especially ankle holsters
Mernickle makes an “Outstanding” high ride holster for Glock models.
Shoulder holster wold be the best.
