  • Here is the full video of my recent Mt Garfield ascent. I added in some of my experience with heat illness and some safety tips around it.
Mt Garfield was a long and gradual 4,000 footer in New Hampshire with great views at the summit! Scrambling required at the last .2 miles until you reach the summit, which has foundation remnants of an old fire tower and 360 degree views.
Thank you so much for watching this video - hopefully you found it helpful!
    Until next time, happy hiking!!
Here’s the link to the route I took if you’re interested!

Heatstroke is no joke. I was up on the Presidentials on a hot April day which definitely wore me out. Lack of water and relentless sun left me haggard with no appetite. Hikers beware!

Great video as always Amanda...thank you for sharing!
I was up on Washington 2 weeks ago over 70 and humid(on the summit), it was a tough day to stay hydrated. I always ensure I get a liter in me on the ride up to the trail. And stay well hydrated the day before a big hike in heat.
Stay safe and see you on the trails!

I always down 36 oz's an hour before starting. I'm from the West Coast where there's not much for shade, So when I feel i'm going to lose my cookies, i'll use a Mylar reflective body-sheet to reflect the heat and sun. I'll also take with me two bladders, one with electrolytes and one without. This morning it was Waterville Valley Osceola in the rain. Remind me to bring knee pads next time. Ugh. Hike on, Apline!

I make sure to hydrate a lot starting the day before now… Those experiences were the most brutal reminder. I haven’t heard if the reflective sheet - I’ll research it. Oh no! Hopefully your knees are ok! Happy Hiking!

I got heatstroke on my bike once, just went up a steep hill, got nauseous immediately at the top. Found some shade and cooled off, but it was scary. Be worse to be up in the Whites with no cell service. Be careful. And good tip ahoy hydration BEFORE the hike. Often very much overlooked. Since it’s a 2+ hr drive for me, I always have a bottle of water to drink on the way up. So luckily I’ve avoided it there so far. Anyways…long comment, just subbed, i do hikes in the whites too and post some videos,l if you don’t mind checking those out 😀, looking forward to more videos!

    Hello my friend 👋
    Yes a beautiful sunny day.
    Your videos are good.
Sorry to hear about your struggle with the heat.
I mentioned I'd send you a couple of channels over here.
Have a look at Miss Nancy's day off.
    Also Emma Estrela.
Take a look when you get chance and let me know👍
You should have way more people watching your videos.
    I'm hoping you will soon.
A few things you can do and you’ll grow pretty fast.
    Keep having fun👋
    It's great outdoors.

Hey! Thanks so much for the kind words and recommendations! I’ll def check them out! For now, I’m not taking my channel too seriously.. it’s just a casual hobby. But if and when I do decide to pursue it for real - I would want to buy a drone, spend more time editing on better software, do multi day trips and involve cooking. ☺️ For now I’m just letting it be a stress free activity. 💗

😂 I just mean look at there views.
Wildbeare her channel is the biggest one I follow in the uk. She's brilliant at wild camps. Her channel can teach many.
You mentioned cooking, that's brilliant for videos. Titles wild swimming, wild camping. You don't have to show any skin just in the water swimming, a fire etc. You hike and like being outdoors that's it really. I'm the same.
Shorts have been really good for me picking up subscribers.
I'm only small and just enjoy being outside.
      Keep having fun👋💚❤️

      I love all hiking video.
      Your aeroplane one is brilliant.
      Blew me away.
I will follow and enjoy what you share.
I watch too much hiking videos 😁
I only use my phone, two phones.
      I learning as I go.
In September someone is coming from America to Wales. A family member crashed and died up there in the 1950s.
I meeting up with her and talking her to the plane. I've had a few experiences.
I try to help anyone I meet walking, share my food and often give water to idiots 😂 that go out having never done it with little water.
If you have someone you recommend I watch it and check them out.
      Have a nice Sunday😉👋

@@JamieHarding5 You are a great hiker for taking care of the underprepared ones ! Hopefully your trip with your friends visiting will have good weather. I’m currently using my phone and a GoPro 11 Hero black. Thankful you didn’t take my sassy comment the wrong way.. lol
I really like Seth’s New England Trails @Rhodyseth, Ryan Mitchell’s channel about his 2024 Everest ascent, and a few more. I’ll check and get back to let you know the others.

I always admire the effort you put in the videos. Im getting my first dedicaded hiking backpack. I starting doing 3 to 4 hours miles hikes. What size would you recmend me thanks 🙂

      Thank you 💗
That’s awesome! For day hikes it really depends on how much gear you like to bring.. Some people go ultra ultra light and others are more prepared for different scenarios. I feel like 20-30 liter bags are great for day hikes, and then 30 and up
can be used for multi day trips. I use a larger bag, a 40 liter, because the hip belt takes 80% of the weight off my shoulders and I prefer good hip belts over not having that support. I also like it because I can do multi day treks with it too. I think the biggest thing is making sure you get fitted correctly. Torso length and back pack size matters a lot. An ill fitting pack can leave you injured. Have fun, happy hiking!

@@AmandaDouin Thanks for the advice. I got a 22 liter size backpack and I'm thinking on returning it. Kind looks funny 😂. I have a big frame. I was thinking on the Osprey Stratos 24. It has belt support and it is on sale. Only downside that backpack does not cone with a blader. So many choices. 😮‍💨
