  • In this video I'll show you How to Replace Front Pads, Rotors and Wear Sensor on a 2012 Mercedes Benz S550. When the dealer wants $2,800 to do the job, it's time to do it yourself.
    Check Out How to Repair Mercedes Benz S550 Rear Brakes • MERCEDES BENZ S550 REA...
    NOTE: I didn't show this step on the video, but make sure to put a little grease or anti-seize on the wheel hub before you put the rotors on. Also put some on the front of the rotor where the wheel gets bolted on. This will make it easier to take off the wheels and rotors next time someone needs to do this job.

      We tried a 17mm on this car, but the lugs nuts were so tight we were destroying them trying to get them off. The owner just bought the socket.

    Damn and I had my mind on a S550 from 2012, the job itself looks way different from a regular job considering the electronic sensor for the brake pad wear. But good video btw

      Thanks. It’s really not a hard job, it just looks different because of the Brembo brakes. That sensor just pops in and out.

    You should clean the wheel hub with a wire brush to eliminate the rotor sticking to the hub 😅 Less tire kickin' next time 🤭

    I changed my pads on my S550 also, the guy who paid 154.00 for the parts should be criminal 😊 finding parts for cheap is very hard, that's the part I always end up spending big on. I will have to do some extensive researching because for the disk I spent 334.00 for both front brake disk.

    Need to use a "Roloc" or wire wheel on the hub before installing new rotors. This is to control disc run-out. A dial meter indicator measures variations in the rotor as it is turned. Typically R-O should not exceed 0.002 inches (I don't know the spec for MB S550, but the number is very small). R-O causes the disc to "wobble" which can be felt on the brake pedal. Basically causes poor braking.

  • @Starchivore4life
    @Starchivore4life 3 роки тому

    Those rotors are the wrong diameter for this car. That is the reason for the premature wear and lip on the outer edge of the brake pads.

    • @fixinit
      @fixinit  3 роки тому

      Anthony Mahas You are probably correct. I don’t know who did the job last time and I didn’t buy the new parts, just installed them.

    • @SuperInfamous1234
      @SuperInfamous1234 2 роки тому +1

      It's designed that way. The pad doesn't cover the whole rotor. That way when your rotor is out of specification. It will make a squeaking noise letting you know its time for new rotors

  • @gulfbreezeproper

    Did you experience any problems after doing this brake job? Dealer wants $1000 to do front and back brakes which makes me think its complicated.

    • @fixinit

      @@fixinit I bought front and back pads and sensors from the dealership for $200 out the door. I've done brake pads and rotors before on older cars in the 80's but watched your video and it looks no different, so dealership must be taking advantage of people on this job.

    • @gulfbreezeproper
      @gulfbreezeproper Рік тому

      @@fixinit Looking at the dealers estimate, they're trying to charge $378 for labor on front and $378 labor for back and they're charging double on the price for all the pads and sensors than what they charge at their own parts counter. Thanks, hopefully your video and all these comments will help people save some money.

    Never use aftermarket rotors on ur Mercedes there not the correct size as oem and they have less stopping power and vibration.
