Electronics is gonna be my next big purchase for my boat. I've been leaning more towards hummingbird. I could be wrong but what I've seen so far you get a little more bang for your buck with them.
Very cool system to assist with learning what's on the bottom. Have a garmin on my kayak that I'm trying to learn never used anything like them before.
Just put 10' raptors on my boat 360 might wait till spring lol. Definitely been waiting to get one. Especially after that interview you did with using 360 vs live on the river. Thanks for all the tips.
Now that you have used both 360 and Livescope, which do you find to be a more useful tool? Is there enough added value to each, to be worth running both?
Rich I know you broke your 360 already.... question is with your fishing do you want to replace it (is it worth it to you). For me I think it definately helps my confidence knowing my bait is in good areas. Whats your take?
It's funny you posted this today, I just mailed my mega 360 back to Humminbird to get fixed. Half the of wouldn't show up on the screen, one side of the pod went out. Seems to be a common problem they been having so just a heads up.
Can it be done on a gen 3n Helix 10 head unit with a transom mount mega transducer..and 360 transducer? So you can use transom transducer when running main motor and than use 360: when under electric trolling motor?
Probably hurts a little to have the before vid now, but suck[ing] less can be expensive sometimes. That will be a bit more than a skeg repair 😕, eh? Regardless, it was informative, and I look forward to seeing more vids leveraging electronics to be #catchmore.
I'm thinking of putting a fish finder on my kayak. I've never used 1 and want to keep it as simple as possible (1 graph + 1 batter + 1 transducer if possible), and only buy once. Would you recommend the mega 360 as being the only fish finder? Or do you think there are benefits to side and down imaging then adding mega 360 to that system?
Bryan, good question, I have never really fished from a Kayak, i will advise you ask this this question of Bailey over at Serious Angler or BE the Fish channel, he is much more knowledgeable about kayak electronics setup
Hey Bryan! Helping out Rich here. If you are thinking of adding a fishfinder to your kayak, I would recommend starting out learning one that has Side Imaging, Down Imaging, Mapping and 2D. For example, a Humminbird HELIX 9 MSI GPS G4N is a great model for the kayak that has all the tech you need. I would get accustomed to that tech before you add MEGA 360 or a forward-facing sonar to the mix. Hope that helps!
@@BEtheFish that helps quite a bit. I hear some use the phrase, "buy once cry once," and I didn't know if that would apply here. I've fished 1 season out of the kayak with no electronics and just beat rip rap banks and fished laydowns. Had success, but on days the fish aren't there, it would be nice to find underwater structure to fish
@@BEtheFish I've just tried to keep everything simple. No batteries to keep charged. I don't get out much and most times I get out are last minute decisions when time presents itself. So it's a load-n-go
I have a Helix 10 G4N with both a regular SI and high speed transducer which are already hooked up on a splitter. Do you know if the splitter cable you used is going to work on my set up?
@@HellaBass Thanks, I just found out from Humminbird that I will have to remove the high speed transducer and splitter in order to install a Mega 360 but it is the right cable when I remove them.
Can I run standard mega transom mount transducer and 360 transducer with a plitter cable so as to run standard mega transom mount transducer when running main motor and run 360 when under electric trolling motor? With a Helix 10 gen 3 N head unit?
@@davidraguse2106 If I understand your question, you want to be able to use a Mega 360 without using it for side imaging in order to avoid having the 360 transducer down when running the big motor. I was trying to do the same thing. I don't think there is a splitter cable or software available for doing it that way yet (maybe someday). You can do that by plugging and unplugging the transducer connectors on the back of the unit but I definitely wouldn't advise it.
Ipilot link gives you that plus you get the ability to follow contour lines. It is more expensive but there are a few more added features that one Hass to consider if adding the Compass only or the benefits of ipilot link. The other benefit is it you don’t have to screw anything into your boat because your trolling motor is already connected to your unit which in most cases is networked with your other units.
Also for anyone that does not have ipilot link on their trolling motor they can add it later if you contact Minn kota. I’m currently in the process of installing my 360 on my ultrex with a helix 10 just like you and had to learn all this myself.
You have to buy an extra piece of gps equipment lol garmins are way more accurate with touch screen and cheaper. I like hummingbird but they’re are on some bullshit
The puck that comes with the ultrex is not a GPS, the GPS is internal to the ultrex, all that puck does on Ultrex is allow you to use Jog Feature on the remote. My Humminbird GPS w/ Heading Sensor puck allows me to always have a straight line off my bow on my graph regardless of speed or direction

@@HellaBass great so far. Glad I got 10' as apposed to the 8' plus the active anchor mode seems to help keep her in place better.

Good break down! Looks like a very useful tool!!!
So far its been informative and fun to use, so much more to learn
I do not see a transducer on the trolling motor are you running a built in HB transducer ?
Thomas it was there, at the time of recording it was being held in place by TREX tape
Could just get a g2 for basic 2d/di, then run your g3/g4 on bow.
Question, do you have ipilot link for the ultrex?
Yes, I have a gen 2 at my console
I do have ipilot link but never hooked it up, I think its overrated for bass fishing, not worth money in my opinion

Did you have the original non mega 360?
I did not Harry
Was curious, did you have to install a Humminbird Ethernet Switch in order to connect the 360 with the Ultrex and Helix?
No need to connect 360 to Ultrex in my opinion. I have ethernet so my 3 units share waypoints and transducers. But not needed to hook 360 to Helix
@@HellaBass That's a relief, one less thing to have to buy.
Sir do you feel the 10" screen size is sufficient or would you go 12" please give me your thoughts.

10" is definitely viable. You would obviously see more and get better picture with 12", depends on budget
Absolutely I run a mega 360 on two mega 10 di units . Top unit is 360 bottom unit is mega di .
