You guys should make an episode on the music from 2010s time where parents could basically pay a studio to let their kid sing and be in a music video. Think Rebecca black, jenna rose (my jeans) etc. We would have sleepovers in middle school and just binge-watch those for hours, and now a lot of those videos have been deleted and are either lost or re-uploaded by others
I started watching this yesterday and got in a multiple vehicle car accident…it wasn’t me or the videos fault but all I could hear as I was dazed and confused was brittany cackling in the background
just kidding it looks NOTHING like bee larry king’s set lmao i only thought of bee larry king because it was black and yellow but whatever we still love the bee movie

1:11:57 its crazy how Brittany talks about how our society revolving around the media today will be studied because it's true and already happening! i study media studies and already we talk about how influencers are the new celebrities, para social relationships, marketing schemes and fandoms. I have a legitimate answer to who the Lady Gaga of the Middle Ages was. I took a Middle Ages Literature class and we spent a lot of time talking about Marie de France. Her Lais are written to be sung so you could call them songs, just very long ones.

I've always been weirded out about this because the consumerism is just mind-boggling. I just don't get how you need 30 different keyboards. How do they even clean everything? 😭

The best thing about this podcast is how you start off listening to one topic and end up at 20 other topics and its just the highlight of my week at this point

guys i’ve literally seen shaq live in concert TWICE 😭😭😭 he was at govball and brought a 16 year old kid who was crowd surfing on stage and put his little ass on his shoulders. i love him.
It feels like an actual conversation between friends where they have a general topic they're discussing but the freedom to move naturally between conversation points and go on tangents, as you might in a real chat with your cousin/roommate/southern aunt
@sarah if you want some low stakes crowd practice with a small audience, nyc has TONS of comedy groups that have shows in the back of bars and such and they’re so much fun to go to (as an audience member) and even when a comedian flops, the atmosphere is still so nice
I think the reason that some people have problems with socializing or public speaking has multiple layers to it. I grew up with a very judgmental mom. She's excessively expressive in the face and with body language in generally, so any time I tried to make excuses, lie, tell a story, share some news, the first thing I would look for is not what she's going to say, but her body language. Her face always told me everything I needed to know, and since like I mentioned before, she was always very judgmental, I became very sensitive to approval and disapproval. Whenever I look for people's approval or disapproval, I automatically hyper-fixate on their body language, which most people can not/do not hide. Most if not all people will show you what they think with their body language before they do their words. Now, socializing with people has become a problem for me because for one, I am very sensitive to people's reactions to what I say or do, and two, since I constantly hyper-fixate on people's initial body language or reactions to my actions, I mostly have expectations of approval or disapproval and not all interactions require either, which I am aware of but I can't seem to just have a normal conversation with a stranger. I can't even imagine the struggle of being a comedian that struggles with this.
I, completely unironically, have a playlist to listen to while driving that is 90% tiktok music. It's catchy and I know the words so it helps with my driving anxiety. edit: This room looks like you're filming in the store room of a s*x dungeon. Love you both
Shawn Mendes is a good example of this done well, I think. He established that he did music early on, so when he started releasing stuff under a label it was received as a triumph or an expected next step in his career. I think what was shocking about him was how he was able to fully separate himself from his internet background; I'm sure a good amount of people who enjoy his music probably have never seen any of his influencer content.
he also has a foundation that gives money to charities as well as raises money for scholarships that go to innovators and college kids who are majoring in/ doing projects to help the planet! its super cool of him and its actually quite separated from him as well
Marketing major here, we still talk about the United guitar video, but most of my textbooks were published in 2019 or 2020 and we've started talking about how if you study what is viral and what trends are on the horizon, you could strike gold.
I think you bring up a really interesting point with “where is the charisma?”. I think that really separates music artists who can do live shows/tours and purely studio artists like these influencers are. No one is going to shows to just hear you play music live, they want to see you interact with the crowd, have a fucking personality on stage and see a side of the musician you never get to see. I’ve started listening to bands because they opened for a band I liked and the lead singer had so much charisma it made me fall in love with them and to WANT to listen to their music. Singing lyrics someone else wrote over a beat you didn’t make doesn’t make you a musician, you need to be able to perform.
Studying music history is finally useful! The Lady Gaga of the middle ages was definitely Hildegard von Bingen, a nun and prophet who wrote a bunch of musical dramas for the church. She was probably allowed to do this because she suffered migraines with auras that she claimed were revelations to her from god.
I love how the podcast has specific topics that you go in depth on. A lot of podcasts I listen to are pop culture-based and give weekly news about things going on in the pop culture world so sometimes they all morph into this one big podcast because the topics are all the same but watching VCG is like a breath of fresh air and feels somewhat nostalgic hearing about old internet moments whilst also getting the classic Sarah/Brittany comedy that we all love 🥰🎙
I genuinely don't believe that most of the infulencers that make music like this don't have the amount of monthly listeners or listens to a song that Spotify says they do, I feel like most of them buy listens/listeners/bots or whatever, I've never talked to anyone who actually listens to music like this
It's for sure bots. It's the same for followers. Everyone's had bots from the beginning. Kim K, Barack Obama, Ariana Grande. Their teams buy them for them. Literally.
i'm sure it's too late for this to be helpful, but re: sarah getting their autism diagnosis, i live in the u.s. and am currently doing mine through telehealth with a canadian psychologist! it's still taking just as long and it's a ton of money but it's closer to like $2k
Shaq aka diesel is actually VERY successful in the edm scene. He’s a pretty talented dj. I just bought vip red rocks tickets just because Shaqs the main opener lol. Stoked to see him!
The way that you guys always wind up getting off topic reminds me so much of Trixie and Katya on every episode of unhhh. I love you guys so much! I'm so glad you started a podcast, haven't missed one yet!
i think some of the difference between some of them becoming mucisians vs just tiktokers who sing is the level of effort they actually put into it. like you can tell that a bella porch is taking it much more seriously than an addison rae.
I think the only person I can say I've been closely following their journey from YT to musician is Conan Gray. Absolutely have LOVED his music from the start. Seeing how far he's come from Grow to releasing his 2nd album🥺🖤🌹. Proud of him!
hey guys just wanted to pop in and say, having belly fat is actually better for belly dancing!🤤(if you mean what i think about when belly dancing is mentioned) love ya both!
This podcast is amazing, you’re both amazing, the walls here though are not it omg. Jokes aside it is actually making me so dizzy and making my eyes cross. I understand it serves a purpose for the sound but good GOD. Edit to add that I have hearing loss and ADHD so I rely on captions and reading their lips so just listening is not always an option.
NY best sellers are best sellers for… any period of time lol. It could be put out, have a bunch of hype, and be the top seller for legit a day, but it was still a “top seller” so authors/ publishers say they are. Some obviously last longer than that, but that’s how there are so many, each debut just tops the last regardless of how long
Shaq is actually DJ Diesel and he frequently plays EDM festivals and loves joining the crowd when he can to watch other performers 😌 he does also love to mosh
There’s a dead mouse somewhere by my desk and my laptop has crashed twice… this is quite literally the only thing that has gotten me through my Monday. Thank u for your service
Actually very surprised they got through this whole episode without mentioning Joji. The transition he was able to make from his UA-cam persona to his music career can probably never be replicated.
Sarah! I have a suggestion for your stand up predicament. There is a festival in Edinburgh (Scotland) called the Fringe, it runs throughout August. It,along with the Scottish tattoo, the Highland games, the book festival and the international festival, invades the city. From what I understand you get a fixed slot every day (an hour, I believe) to do whatever it is you do (there’s a lot of London based comics, but there is so much more going on than just comedy) there are established live productions to street performers! A huge part of it is the free shows, where people pay what they want at the end of the show. It generally attracts people who are curious, interested, and ultimately, shitfaced. I think you would have a great time and learn a lot.
Shawn Mendes is a good example, I love how I watched Shawn Mendes go from being a small influencer to one of the biggest pop stars, I used to see that man live at magcon with quite a small audience.😭❤️
I loved that you talked about marketing textbooks because when in 2017 my textbook for social media literally was talking about twitter and Facebook - Twitter wasn't even bumping then, so idk why we were discussing it at all but TikTok wasn't even a thought for marketing tactics!
@@stratosphere94 Yeah that’s true they’d have to do a ton of research before to make sure everything is right. But I still think it’d be an interesting conversation lol
If they kept it on a more informative level, I think it could work. Like talking about the dances videos they post on youtube and how they slay, the progression into the western world and the impact it’s had on it, kpop stans (from stan twitter to bts fans booking out that trump rally), the trainee process/how they form the groups, the titles each group member has, the labels and the expectations/rules they have for the idols, and how they run once they’ve made their debut (comeback stages and such). Idk those are just a few ideas. They’d have to be sure to be respectful and careful with it, but I think that if anyone could talk about in a way that wouldn’t piss people off, it’s them.
Just wanted to say I really appreciate how much you guys think about what you’re talking about, Hearing you both discuss these topics is so interesting. You’re both so funny but also have such an interesting and insightful response to the topic each week - I think this might be my favourite ever podcast haha
Yo, official British person here and I get ice in drinks everywhere! Never heard this ice phenomena before, but I bet going forward I'll see it constantly x3 literally can't think of a place that doesnt give ice in drinks, you gotta specifically ask for no ice
The point about marketing classes having to adapt to social media is really true. I just took a principles of marketing class this summer and we already discuss the way social media can be used for marketing and such.

Love you both
Brittany and Sarah clipped through reality into the backrooms 💀
Cousins- the new setup is giving me an aneurysm with all these vertical stripes-
I think you bring up a really interesting point with “where is the charisma?”.
I genuinely don't believe that most of the infulencers that make music like this don't have the amount of monthly listeners or listens to a song that Spotify says they do, I feel like most of them buy listens/listeners/bots or whatever, I've never talked to anyone who actually listens to music like this
Who needs bots when your demographic is kids
@@Julia-tz7yc ong when I go back to my old playlists and listen to the songs I used to love, it's just shitty to kinda ok music
It's for sure bots. It's the same for followers. Everyone's had bots from the beginning. Kim K, Barack Obama, Ariana Grande. Their teams buy them for them. Literally.
I fucking love Mondays because of this show 😂 Makes the first day back at work after the weekend is like YAAAAAS VCG whilst I do my makeup!!!! 😁
i'm sure it's too late for this to be helpful, but re: sarah getting their autism diagnosis, i live in the u.s. and am currently doing mine through telehealth with a canadian psychologist! it's still taking just as long and it's a ton of money but it's closer to like $2k
This looks like a Zillow Gone Wild room
Shaq aka diesel is actually VERY successful in the edm scene. He’s a pretty talented dj. I just bought vip red rocks tickets just because Shaqs the main opener lol. Stoked to see him!
Honestly, if anyone should be releasing music it’s Brittany, she has such a lovely voice and I’d stream like no other.
51:38 obsessed w brittany singing this to the tune of "i'm gonna pop some tags"
I feel like y'all would slay a facebook mom episode
FRR
hey guys just wanted to pop in and say, having belly fat is actually better for belly dancing!🤤(if you mean what i think about when belly dancing is mentioned) love ya both!
I always listen to y’all as I’m tryin to go to sleep but end up listening to the whole episode because you crack me up hahahaha😂
NY best sellers are best sellers for… any period of time lol. It could be put out, have a bunch of hype, and be the top seller for legit a day, but it was still a “top seller” so authors/ publishers say they are. Some obviously last longer than that, but that’s how there are so many, each debut just tops the last regardless of how long
I love when Britney opens the ad break with an accent
I really see what Sarah is talking about the wall is freaking me out!
that midwife joke was HILARIOUS omfg. laughed out loud in my office. thank you!
Shaq is actually DJ Diesel and he frequently plays EDM festivals and loves joining the crowd when he can to watch other performers 😌 he does also love to mosh
I was so surprised at how hard his sets go!
@@danielmontanelli6168 soooo good and he just loves doing it too he doesn't even take money for the shows he does
There’s a dead mouse somewhere by my desk and my laptop has crashed twice… this is quite literally the only thing that has gotten me through my Monday. Thank u for your service
Actually very surprised they got through this whole episode without mentioning Joji. The transition he was able to make from his UA-cam persona to his music career can probably never be replicated.
His music is genuinely good, too 😌
The walls on this new set are making my eyes go stupid oml 😂 this was a great episode, though! Love that Brittany knew every Tana song lmfaooo
"I'm already cluster B, I can't lean into it more" - I felt that way too hard haha
So happy it’s not over the laptop and you guys are in person together again 💖
You guys are so talented, things have been so so dark but you’ve been able to make me laugh like no one else!
“I gauged my butt” - I love you two more and more each week 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Shawn Mendes is a good example, I love how I watched Shawn Mendes go from being a small influencer to one of the biggest pop stars, I used to see that man live at magcon with quite a small audience.😭❤️
Okay, but like, DJ Diesel (aka Shaq) is a great DJ! And Paris Hilton is also really fun as a DJ. LOL
I loved that you talked about marketing textbooks because when in 2017 my textbook for social media literally was talking about twitter and Facebook - Twitter wasn't even bumping then, so idk why we were discussing it at all but TikTok wasn't even a thought for marketing tactics!
the speed and urgency when Sarah asked 'single?' 😂😂😂 Britney had barely finished saying the word lesbian 🤣
I’d really enjoy hearing your perspectives on kpop companies/the industry as a whole.
Omg I'd love that but I would also be SO scared for them after
@@stratosphere94 Yeah that’s true they’d have to do a ton of research before to make sure everything is right. But I still think it’d be an interesting conversation lol
pls no they're gonna get attacked by koreaboos
@@kenna9877 Exactly!!! I think they could deliver it In A way that doesn’t seem negative and gossipy but moreso about the process overall
knowing sarah loves Alice in Chains makes me love her even more, def one of my fave bands, even named my daughter Alice
Just wanted to say I really appreciate how much you guys think about what you’re talking about, Hearing you both discuss these topics is so interesting. You’re both so funny but also have such an interesting and insightful response to the topic each week - I think this might be my favourite ever podcast haha
I was watching this with my phone so close to my face and then looked away and my wall started moving love the new studio
This might damage your eyes. I have an astigmatism and it’s no fun…
@@megankidd4671 omg I have an astigmatism and I’m like super blind oh no
sarah loving grunge music is so iconic
Yo, official British person here and I get ice in drinks everywhere! Never heard this ice phenomena before, but I bet going forward I'll see it constantly x3 literally can't think of a place that doesnt give ice in drinks, you gotta specifically ask for no ice
The point about marketing classes having to adapt to social media is really true. I just took a principles of marketing class this summer and we already discuss the way social media can be used for marketing and such.
i love yall so much so i will endure the headache from the background
6:38 the imagery is so funny 😂 and sarah’s beanie babies going flying when she brakes too hard lmaoo
20:42 NEVER would have expected to hear about charles on this pod, it feels like part of a whole world i left behind
28:23 SARAH?
32:00 my fav gag is slipping in dumb shit like this without laughing in conversations w my friend and seeing how long it takes them to notice
58:05 I love the moments when the camera is on sarah and she just tells this insane fact about herself or makes the wildest joke nonchalantly and goes on, and then the camera goes back to the two of them and brittany has her face in her hands 😭
