Love watching this video since I own one. Mark’s review is spot on. I’ve raced motorcycles all my life and this Ninja is a blast to ride even for an experienced rider. Thanks Mark!!!
After watching this review, I was happily convinced to purchase this bike. I have been looking at this bike for a while now, so thank you Mark for this review. It has definitely convinced me to go ahead and buy it. Thanks again Mark..
Bro I wish American motorcycle channels were as wholesome as their British counterparts. Americans always write a bike off because it doesn't have as high a power-to-weight ratio as another while Britons see bikes as weather or not they're fun to ride to begin with (even if it isn't, they focus on the positive aspects more than what they don't like). Mark is GOATed fr.
67.3 bhp and 47 foot pounds! Collected mine four days ago and loving it, albeit that the suspension feedback over some road imperfections can be a little jolting! Enjoyed your review very much - thank you.
I’ll be interested to hear about the 2020 Ninja 1000SX as well. I must say my 2017 Ninja 1000 is awesome and I wouldn’t want to get rid of it, but I’ve heard the 2020 has more tweaks than just the cruise control and the TFT screen.
I have the 2018 model, I brought after a 20 year break in riding. Now covered 9k and completed a couple of short tours, it's a great bike. Still use it to comute, will be keeping it for the foreseeable future. Like you, I also have a 636, completely different in every way. Still jump on the 650 for a longer ride.
I've taken a 14 year hiatus before the bug got me again. I can't decide between this and the Vulcan S and they have the same engine so I guess I'll have to test ride them to decide.
Man I wish they made a Ninja 900 based on the Z900. I'd be all over that! Got the last version of ER-6N with this motor and its great fun. Dont really want to go right up to Ninja 1000, its too much tourer. Actually considering one of these because want the fairings.
So I’ve only been riding for you 11 months on a CBT pass my test with art motorcycle riding in Basildon Essex last week, looking forward to picking my ninja 650 2020 on Thursday 😊
Terrific review Mark, bought a 2020 KRT tourer edition, still running in but seriously impressed with the bike. I am an experienced rider having come from bigger capacity bikes including Z1000sx, I really think this bike ticks most of the boxes, of course, you can never have too much power but its also hard to use on UK roads and unless you are in to track days its difficult to use. I really think the non-adjustable suspension and braking on this bike are a good compromise and at this price point its right on the money. The Rideology app is a bit quirky and the novelty will wear off, probably much better on the ZH2!...keep up the great reviews, fantastic real world stuff!
Thanks Mark, How do the handle bars compare with the Z650. Which is more comfortable? With your money would you pick the MT07 or Kawi 650 for your money?
For the price, I can't find a better motorcycle to upgrade to. I have a 2017 R3 I bought as my first bike. Absolutely love the bike, and am very glad I bought a smaller bike to learn on. WIthin a few years I plan on trading it in for 650 class bike. The two I have my eyes on are the Kawasaki Ninja 650 and the Honda CBR650R. If I hit the lottery anytime soon, i'm sure the CBR650R would be in my garage. For the price, I believe the Ninja 650 is a perfect fit for what I am looking for. I commute to work when possible, and ride weekends. For a new 2019, the CBR650R is over $3000 more. At the same down payment and interest rate, the Honda is double the monthly payment. Obviously the inline 4 vs the parallel twin is one reason for the difference, but I can't seem to justify any of it because of how fantastic the Ninja 650 seems. Thanks for the great content Mark.
Love your reviews, calm and to the point, no exaggerating babble. I am considering this Ninja 650 2020 model as we speak. Going to my local dealership next week for a spin. My latest ride was a BMW R1200RT, but due to my tiny garage (which also has to room my car), I rid myself of the bimmer, and are now looking into the mid-range segment. Not overly keen on massive power like the ZX-6R (I´ll then probably lose my license!), so I believe this Ninja 650 is my ticket. If it´s really eager to go, I´m curious of how the engine responds in the higher revs? Being a twin, how is your take on the engine´s "tuning" (all be it has no riding modes) in lack of a better term? Thanks!
@@markpulling12 I like the Honda CB 650. Reminds me of my 400 Four I had 45 years ago! But the screen is unreadable compared to the Kwaker! Since I'm an older rider, I don't like gizmos, but if I can't have dials I want to see my Speedo! Cheers.

Another great Review - the new Computer type Screen blends in v well - I HOPE Kawasaki don't go into Information Overload with even newer models - seems the slight vibration has been solved (?) - B Rgds Kenneth Woodside
on my black 2020 it seems to still have a little bit of vibration in the mirrors and a little bit when under 4000 rpm but that's it. also only at 4k miles traveled so its still fairly new.
Just come across you review and answered a lot of questions for me. I’m just about to start riding and would eventually like one of these. What you say about it being suitable for beginners, height etc is really useful, thanks.
Finally got round to giving this a test ride, its everything that you say it is. Lovely to look and and easy to ride. My only criticism would be that at motorway speeds I found it quite vibey - especially through the seat. Think I might find that a bit annoying after a while, and its probably the only thing stopping me buying one.
great thanks ,you must have quite a collection now with your versys too ,its great getting a bike on the 1st of march ,i did last year with my ninja 636 :)
Really a beautiful bike! I wish they did the same paint on the ninja 1000. I’m worried it won’t be enough power for me. I’m coming from a Z900RS and want more wind protection
great intro/video mark. still riding at 72 years of age, but low seat/handle bar layout convinced. to purchase by 2022 model year ninja. dely this thursday 21/7. bfn mike
Hi Mark, really nice in depth review, thanks for that.I have a question,on the left hand side of the TFT display there is that little circle,is that a 12V power socket? And also is there any storage compartment under the passenger seat?Actually 2 questions :) Thanks
Hi ivan...there is a tiny tool kit under the seat not much room for anything else...and that circle is somewhere you can fit a 12v ...i dont think it comes with one all the best mark
Hi Aaron both use the same engine... depends weather you want sports riding or all round . Personally I'd go for the all round versus it's brilliant Cheers mark
I was already planning on getting the Ninja 650, but your review nailed it. Especially since you are the same height as me, and reaching the ground has been a problem for me on most bike bikes. People have told me to get a cruiser for the low seat height, but I want to have a little more fun than you can have on a cruiser,. Great review. Thanks.
Great video review! I've got a 2018 Vstrom 650DL, great bike....and wondering if you were in same shoes - you'd consider replacing with one of these Ninja650s? Thanks! R/Roni
Hi I had a 2014 vstrom 650 , great do everything bike ...the ninja is a great bike too and lots of fun ...you may miss the all round ability of the v Strom though ....have both ? Lol 😆 Best wishes mark
@@trendfixxx The 650 class could be considered beginner friendly, yeah. I still think it's best to have some experience on a smaller bike first through. 650s are still fast bikes. Very easy for a beginner to get carried away and ride beyond their abilities
Great review mark, as always very informative and a great looking bike. Hope to see you on the new z900 ninja naked bike as that looks mean! Ride safe sir.
Nice video man! I have a 2021 that I just got and I just want to ask why it blinks yellow like I should change gears when I’m in 6th? I seen yours was doing the same when you got up to a certain speed!
@@kyled6860 bro its perfect, honestly. 100% managable power, its not gonna get away from you, and its gonna get you where you need to go at the speed you need to be at, no problem at all getting up to highway speeds quick, tops out at about 120 mph. Im 6'3 and about 250 and its still pretty comfortable considering. You wont ever feel overwhelmed or overpowered, but even after a year and about 4000 miles under my belt now I also dont feel underwhelmed at this point either, just an all around enjoyable ride
Beautiful bike and it looks like you are riding within the bike and not on top of the bike, plus little pressure on the wrists. Great video. Thanks Mark......Sal : )
Another positive review of the Ninja650-Mark you mentioned you also own the ZX-6R;according to motostatz from 0 to 60 mph both bikes are about the same Ninja650 3.53 seconds and 636 3.17 seconds-is that what you experience when you ride 0 to 60 on both bikes-a feeling of 'sameness' in terms of acceleration up to that speed?
Hi Robert yes that's about right for the 0-60 times ,I owned the 2019 zx636 for two years ,0-60 is over and done so quickly the ninja 636 with it's 115 hp will feel stronger to 60 mph BUT where you would really notice the extra power is when you get moving say 50 mph 3rd gear and winding it up to the redline it is absolutely night and day different / better performance !!! Cheers mark
@@markpulling12 Thank you Mark, the main problem with a bike like that is insurance even if you wanted it-the basic liability for the ZX-6R in Canada is obscenely high where as the Ninja650 is affordable(and this is taking into consideration that you have a clean record and have completed a motorcycle training course both of which I have.)The real dream bike for ultimate acceleration is the H2 but again insurance costs have this bike reserved for the millionaires of Canada.Maybe insurance rates are a little more reasonable for the supersport bikes in the UK? Having said all that I really am a fan of that Ninja650-your video and so many others have been so positive towards the bike-safe to say Kawasaki has a real winner with that Ninja650.
Great review man. A lot of helpful information. I'm looking to get the 2022 model next year. One question I do have is. Having ridden this bike. Do you think it is going to be man enough to carry a pillion, and not struggle with the pick-up.
Hi you might be better with an a2 bike like a z400 ninja 400 cbr 500 etc first of all then when you gain experience over a couple of years get something a little bigger good luck....mark
You seem to get a lot for your money here. For a first bike (and probably my only ever) would you recommend this, ZX6R or a CBR 600 of some sort? I’ve just passed my test and gonna buy one next year so staring to look. I think once I get a bike it will do me
Hi Considering this bike but reading reviews about the vibrations being uncomfortable but it seems to differ with different owners. Wondering if you could provide more info on your experience
Hi it has a bit of vibration around the 5 k rpm mark ...but no different or worse than any other parallel twin ...1000s of owners are very happy with these... also consider the aprilia rs660 that's brilliant Best wishes mark
I’m a new rider once quarantine is over and this is the bike I want! Good review! I’m 6’2 so if anyone has recommendations for other bikes for my height I’d appreciate the advice.
Hi Alex not tried the cb500r but did many miles on the 500x and it's fantastic ,I'd say if you're on A2 get the Honda as it's quite a bit cheaper than the Ninja 650 which would need to be restricted All the best mark
mark pulling Great many thanks, was thinking they would be similar performance wise when restricted and in addition I would have to pay extra for restricter fitting but i prefer the seating position in the ninja but don’t think it’s that’s good that it’s worth the £1000. Many thanks keep the vids up 👌
I am currently riding a 2011 Ninja 250 and love it. The bike fits me like a glove. I am thinking of getting the Ninja 650.. What's the deal with the flashing gear indicator and does the rev counter actually flash or is it a function of the video thing? I didn't really want to be a sports bike rider but daaamn the 250 is a blast to ride and it fits me like a glove.. I can only imagine the 650 is so much better. Thanks the review.
Hi you should be fine with the 650 ...you've done your year or two on the 125 which has got you your biking skills ...just apply that to the 650 and build up gradually Cheers mark
Hi, is this bike really this thirsty? I am considering either this or a Honda CBR 500 R as a sports touring bike. To me, engine power is not the most important, but the fuel economy and wind comfort are the most important features, plus suspension comfort. So I guess that for me, the Honda is the better..?
I love what they've done with it, I have an OG model '08 plate and love it, I ride with the likes of R6's and even S1k's, never had a problem keeping up on most roads, they would get away a bit it we have a good enough stretch of road of course.
Perfect for fun within speed limit. Great bike Kawa! Sat on this and a cbr500r and this was way better comfort, riding position and build quality 😊re seat height etc ..WIDTH at the front of the seat is far more relevant than height. Also, for a fella, something that doesn’t pitch you sloping down into the tank.., the Honda does.. this doesn’t.. women may like that.. but they have different requirements for vibration.. 💚
Hey there, i have a 23 ninja 650 . I noticed your taking it down to 35 in 6th and it got me worried, if i get into 6th even at 49 50 mph it feels lumpy as heck , i understand not to accelerate at that but man it feels horrible under 50 mph in 6th gear ... if im not at or above 4k rpm in 6th it feels like its going to tug apart
Mark top of the morning to you! would you say that going from a 400 to 600 is a good advancement or should one get something higher since the 400 makes 45 hp while the 650 make 65 hp. Thanks

Hi Kyle ....I'd definitely stick with the current model either new or nearly new...you'll save a lot on the 2021 model which is essentially just the same bike bar a few styling and led upgrades All the best mark
I bought a 2019 version brand new in jan...The rain has stopped me from riding much I have stuck to the book when it comes to breaking it in....just seems a lot of miles before you can go over 4k...What's your thoughts on the breaking in period?
Hi Damien I've run in a dozen or so bikes in my 30 plus years of riding ,the key is to vary the revs and gears never just stick at a set revs then go kapow at 500 miles ,my technique is 0-,50 miles say go up to 5k ish 100- 300 up to say 6k and build it up gradually ,imo you don't have to be anal over it just vary the revs and gears and ride normally ,never ever had a problem ,all the best mark
I have an 2018 KRT and happy with it. Could of gotten a more powerful one , but for what tickets , and some speeding that may cause me more injury. I’m good with mines.
Another excellent review Mark, if i were to change from my cbr650r this would be the obvious choice due to low seat height and low weight - looks like ideal all round bike
Pleased to see this review - first from a real rider rather than a gnarled old journo! Really wanted you to like this bike as early press reviews have been mixed and I have the Ninja 650 on my list for a first "big bike". How did you find the seat comfort?

Really having a problem on Vancouver Island getting the 2020 Ninja 1000 SX SE. Protestors shutting down rail lines on the mainland of British Columbia and across the country, protesting against some gas pipeline and other things. Shutting down a great deal of the country it seems. A record number of ships being put at moorage and on top of all that, according to the dealer who just decided to tell me about the reason for the delays a couple days ago -- corona virus. It is probably being thoroughly watched out for on those ships. Hope my Ninja doesn't have the virus. Probably see your review before the bike gets here.

@@I_Mark_Mills honestly though the 650 class makes a great beginner bike to grow into.
Yes I'll be reviewing the z900 in a couple of weeks All the best mark
Hello! I love the model of this ninja! Im going for my first a2 bike. Would you recommend this bike as a first bike?
Hi Alex yes most definitely ,it's easy to ride ,nice power , great handling and looks great yes I'd say go for it All the best mark
@@markpulling12 thank you very much! Good channel bro. Keep going!
Nice video man! I have a 2021 that I just got and I just want to ask why it blinks yellow like I should change gears when I’m in 6th? I seen yours was doing the same when you got up to a certain speed!
Hi that's just the for the running in period ...I'm sure you can clear it off in the menu or it goes away after the first service
Cheers mark
@@markpulling12 thanks man
I love the Kawasaki green 🤤 excellent and informative walk around. Thanks Mark 👍🏻
Cheers thanks Mr Olney !
:)
KRT EDITION is so purty , love the lime green.
i purchased a 2016 650 as my first bike, couldnt be happier with my choice.
I’m thinking of doing my bike license and jumping straight onto something like this, have u found the power/bike alright?
Could be on my short list for 2021! ❤️
Hi Robert yes that's about right for the 0-60 times ,I owned the 2019 zx636 for two years ,0-60 is over and done so quickly the ninja 636
with it's 115 hp will feel stronger to 60 mph BUT where you would really notice the extra power is when you get moving say 50 mph 3rd gear and winding it up to the redline it is absolutely night and day different / better performance !!!
Nice bike for sure. Great video once again Mark. Kawasaki really needs to blacken the heel guards. Common Z900 :)
I have a 125 cc ninja for 3 months now, have my eye on this for the spring if I pass my das 😍😍😍
Oh just in case anyone sees this and might be useful ..I have sat on it a few times and I’m 5’4” and can get the balls of my feet down.
I’m like 6’1, Am I too tall for this bike or what you think?
I don't know how to drive a motorcycle but I want to have one in my garage😱😍😱
Great review man. A lot of helpful information.
I'm looking to get the 2022 model next year.
One question I do have is. Having ridden this bike. Do you think it is going to be man enough to carry a pillion, and not struggle with the pick-up.
Hi David yes 100% it's got enough power at 65 hp . .I've taken many passengers on bikes with 45 hp with no probs cheers mark
I so wish this came in Color Red too not just lime/green! Great video Mark! Thanks
No probs tutukani ... Glad you enjoyed it regards mark
Loved your review. I've never ridden a bike. Will this be too risky for me to ride?
Hi you might be better with an a2 bike like a z400 ninja 400 cbr 500 etc first of all then when you gain experience over a couple of years get something a little bigger good luck....mark
You seem to get a lot for your money here. For a first bike (and probably my only ever) would you recommend this, ZX6R or a CBR 600 of some sort? I’ve just passed my test and gonna buy one next year so staring to look. I think once I get a bike it will do me
Hi yes this will be perfect for your first bike ...very good value too All the best mark
mark Thank you
Hi
Considering this bike but reading reviews about the vibrations being uncomfortable but it seems to differ with different owners. Wondering if you could provide more info on your experience
Hi it has a bit of vibration around the 5 k rpm mark ...but no different or worse than any other parallel twin ...1000s of owners are very happy with these... also consider the aprilia rs660 that's brilliant
Best wishes mark
@@markpulling12 ohh great thank you
Excellent review. Thank you!
I hope that TFT ends up on a Versys 650 in its next update :)
Great Efforts made by you. I liked the video. Nice
Thanks a lot!
I’m a new rider once quarantine is over and this is the bike I want! Good review! I’m 6’2 so if anyone has recommendations for other bikes for my height I’d appreciate the advice.
Ditto 6'2" and looking for 'tall rider' bikes..
I’m 6’1. Most bikes will be just fine. I have an R3 and there’s no problem.
Thanks, nice review. I am trading up from a CBR500R. Is this enough of a step in power or should I being thinking GSX S750 or MT 09?
It's a bit more power .... personally I'd go for an mt 09 .... brilliant machine
Cheers mark
GSX-S750 is a terrific bike.
Great review, have you reviewed the Honda cbr500r? If so what would you say is a better option in regards to an A2 bike ?? Is it worth an extra £1000?
Hi Alex not tried the cb500r but did many miles on the 500x and it's fantastic ,I'd say if you're on A2 get the Honda as it's quite a bit cheaper than the Ninja 650 which would need to be restricted All the best mark
mark pulling Great many thanks, was thinking they would be similar performance wise when restricted and in addition I would have to pay extra for restricter fitting but i prefer the seating position in the ninja but don’t think it’s that’s good that it’s worth the £1000. Many thanks keep the vids up 👌
Think I want one !....I'm not a new rider ,but look good for general knocking about and touring as well.
This would fit the bill perfectly for you Kevin ... definitely good for a bit of touring cheers mark
Hi richard all that flashing can be turned off in the tft menu :)
Hi Mark. In all honesty, would you recommend a new sensible rider coming from a 125cc, go for the Ninja 400 first or would the 650 be fine?
Hi you should be fine with the 650 ...you've done your year or two on the 125 which has got you your biking skills ...just apply that to the 650 and build up gradually
Cheers mark
Fantastic video.I have heard that John Mc Guinness is riding a Kawasaki. At the TT. From Bournemouth Kawasaki . lol
Hi colin yes i met with john the other night at the kawasaki launch evening in bournemouth ..a very nice guy :)
Hi, is this bike really this thirsty? I am considering either this or a Honda CBR 500 R as a sports touring bike. To me, engine power is not the most important, but the fuel economy and wind comfort are the most important features, plus suspension comfort. So I guess that for me, the Honda is the better..?
Hi its quite good on fuel about 65 mph UK best wishes mark
Ps honda 500 does 80 mpg uk
@@markpulling12 great! In the test video you were talking about 50 to 55 mpg. I hope I can test ride both of them next weekend!
@@mikaelpettersson2389 yes since then I've actually found out that in the real world they can quite easily do a lot more :) best wishes mark
Current model gets me around 70mpg in a long commute, amazing! And I given it plenty!
Wow that's really good 😊👍
@@markpulling12 many of the roads you did the test ride on as well on a daily basis.
Hai Mark, love your reviews. Is there a change you test the Ducati Supersport as well??
Hi Marcel, now that's a bike I like the look of,I'll see what I can do when all the dealerships open again all the best mark
@@markpulling12 top. I hope so..
Finally a review on this bike, thanks Mark great review as always!
yes i think im the first uk roadtest :)
Thanks
Hi Don yes I would say go higher say 90/100 hp ish , something like a street triple or mt09 would be great All the best mark
@@markpulling12 thanks i appreciate it, do you have a recommendation
Is there storage under the seat and where can I attach an additional cargo on the tail of the motorcycle?
Hi there Is a tiny space under the seat ,but yes you could attach a tail pack to the rear seat .. that's what I'd do cheers mark

The 2021 model is available in April. As a first bike would it be worth going for the 2021 model or just stick with this beautiful 2020 model?
Hi Kyle ....I'd definitely stick with the current model either new or nearly new...you'll save a lot on the 2021 model which is essentially just the same bike bar a few styling and led upgrades

@@markpulling12 Hi Mark,
The price starts at 6.8 can I expect that price to drop next year? Since the new one is here then.
Been thinking about the ninja 400 since 2020. Consider myself a new rider but think the 650 mite suit me better and last longer..??
Hi yes the 650 would be ok ...it's not that much bigger and heavier than the 400 ,enjoy your new biking career regards mark
I like that you check for low speed fueling!
I bought the 650r in 2006 new. Miss this bike alot. Got me thinking about a new one!
Thanks Vincent yes it's a great all rounder ! Cheers mark
Pleased to see this review - first from a real rider rather than a gnarled old journo! Really wanted you to like this bike as early press reviews have been mixed and I have the Ninja 650 on my list for a first "big bike". How did you find the seat comfort?
Watch the video and you'll find out. :)
Hi phil ,the seat was fine for the two hours i was on the bike ,felt comfy :)
Mark I have had motorbike in the past since I was a kid iam now doing my mod 1 and 2 on a honda cbr 600 I love this bike but I like mark the Yamaha r3 as well I know it's only mark a 300 cc
still cant decide wether to buy this or a zx25r

Great review bud thanks for helping me make a decision.

Probably see your review before the bike gets here.
yes ninja 100 sx is next chris :)
