@@nathancurry2246 Ya there's always going to be some hot garbage going through the shop, just part of it. But it is satisfying when you get a trash bike and make it nice again. And the minions probably would've worked, but I personally prefer the continental lineup for the price to performance.
Awesome work once again! Just a tip, when you are waxing chains you should put them in ice cold water after having the chain in the molten wax, the ice water makes the wax dry inside the links faster and the wax doesn't have time to melt and come out from inbetween the links, lubing the chain better.
ahhh so you are a registered nurse, I was trying to figure out where that cash flow was coming from, honestly love the USA cycling call out on insurance, I have never heard an add like that before- good content mate!
I used to have a Giant Talon 1 from around this era and genuinely enjoyed it a ton. Even upgraded the XT derailleur to a newer XT with a clutch before I just got a new bike. Seriously glad to see this 3 getting a new lease on life!
I’ve still got a 2, same color scheme but large frame with 29s. This definitely gives me a few specific ideas to trick it out a little, since the determination of what will fit which bike is over my head
wow the bike got sweet parts! You could really keep it on a budget with the Microshift Advent X group and a cheaper dropper, I think you could get the whole thing really upgraded with fresh grips and pedals for under 400.
It’s awesome to have witnessed your channel grow so much! Myself and all the other commenters appreciation your engagement with the fans of the channel. I hope the future brings your channel even more success!
This series is pretty cool. Helping your local mtbikers improve their rides. You get content to record & basically they get a brand new bike in return. 👍
Very well thought out upgrades. This will give the bike a long life, and gives it a modern update. I don't think I would change anything about how you did this. Love this series!
I basically did the same. I bought a Trek 4300 back in july of 2007 and slowly changed all the parts and components; only part left from purchase is the headset spacer. I was told by the owner of the store were I bought the bike from that I could of bought a better bike for less than I spent on upgrading this one. I ended up putting XT components, Thomson Elite bar and stem, and a Chris King headset. Oh well, it's how I wanted my bike to look. Hopefully your buddy enjoys his bike upgrades🤘🤘
Awesome work, so cool you hooked a subscriber up. I have personally helped at least 5 people this year get bikes. I love getting old gems and making them new again.
Yeah from the video you can tell the bike is much better but as 800 usd was the budget a new bike would've suited him much more. the dropper is not his height neither the frame which looks to be a size down so in my view he only made it worse by upgrading instead of going out and buying him a new bike.
Dude I snagged an eBay dropper for 30. It was a new takeoff from one of those rental citibike things. Weighs like 3 pounds. Manual drop lever with no remote option, not adjustable for saddle angle, only 100mm of travel. Basically the worst dropper imaginable. It’s still a million times better than not having a dropper. Also, I love continental tires. They’re cheap and ride super well. Super happy with them.
I wish evan could fix up my budget bike, i have a vitus nucleus vr 27.5, fork is total trash. Like evan said. This bike is under forked! Never had any issues with the drive train though. I really admire the time he puts into his builds!!! Keep up the great work evan!!!😊
I like the grips but, there are same giant grips you took off, just lock-on. I have them and they are very good and have plenty of grip, soft enough for cruising while being good for trails.
The 11s deore is honestly sick. Way cheaper and barely noticable between it and 12s if you use a 30t front ring. We run it on one of our demo/ rentals and it's been flawless even with non mtbers shifting it all season
Yes, love this type of content. Although my take away from the video is that US health service is crazy, a broken collar bone is fixed for free here in the UK
That was really cool, showing us what changes would make the most difference. I totally get the feeling Jeremy had for the bike before the updates - just old and clunky and too heavy. It feels like the bike pulls you down and you have to put more effort in to it to get it to keep going. No fun at all.
Really cool! I build my 2015 talon 3 with nx transmission guide r brakes and arc rims, the only thing I didnt upgrade was the fork, but now i have a 2017 bronson carbon frame that I’m building and taking some of the parts from the giant to the bronson
Ex Pat Brit in the Filippines I almost bought a Tallon, but the bike shop didn't have. So not willing to go home empty handed (100Km) bus ride for nothing i opted for a Fathom 29er. stock Ms. Deore. I recently upgraded to XT, Wow new bike in every respect! Like me your subscriber is a lucky guy.
Cool video. I wish I at least had all the tools to do all the jobs. Like bottom bracket and crank tools. Saves a lot of money if you can work on your bike yourself.

Awesome Hiago I love to hear it! I had an ultrasonic cleaner once and it was too cheap. So saving up for the day I buy a really nice cleaner. The cheap one did work pretty good though!
I love the budget upgades because of the same reason of diminishing returns. I have a similar budget hardtail and most of the upgrades ( whenever I break an OEM part) are not from main stream brands. the only OEM part that has not been replaced is the 3x8 drivetrain.
Bro, i had the same bike put exactly the same parts on it, + bigger disc but the stole the bike before i could take it out on the trail for the first time, today i gonna buy me new one. Excited!

Specialized Butcher/Maxxis DHR combo. My rear seat stay can't really accept a big meaty tire neither. I would get rubs. Solid advice for people who want to go wider.
