The vivacious and life asserting spirit of the War Ending times...
why am I hearing a Lady In The Van soundtrack here? -,-
I'm not sure which one you mean? The first is a Jazz classic called Sing, Sing, Sing (I think first sung by the Andrew Sisters) and the second is even two hundred years older, The Habanera from Carmen. 😄
They are still hiding Meryl's singing from us. Anyone found a clip?
No because you have to see the movie if you want to hear it 😉
There are a few they've released you can hear little bits of her singing.
Foster Jenkins was a mean-spirited frump. I am not sure if Streep was able to convey her smugness of character. Pictures of FFJ show her with a hazy expression, always seemed to be looking inward, not connected to the outside world. That is why she was able to survive an entire Carnegie Hall concert while people were laughing at her because she was living in her own imagination. People were props as much as the fancy costumes. Proofs of her cheapness and meanness abound, like not paying for the Verdi bust she commissioned and not making good on the promises she made for her faithful partner or accompanist in her will.
What you must take into consideration is that she was infected with syphilis at eighteen years of age by her first husband, later stage syphilis tends to affect brain function which probably led to her 'delusion' that she was a great singer and her "inwardness" .Very sad actually !
