I met him in 2003 without having a clue who he was. He was charming, self-deprecating, brutally candid about his career and true to his word when I eventually asked him for a small favor. My son was 8 and he was the spitting image of Hugh. He loved About A Boy and wanted an autograph. He was on cloud nine and thrilled that Mr. Grant had actually spoken to me about him.Hugh was kind enough to send a collection of his films a handwritten note and a signed photo. He's truly one of the kindest people I've ever met without being sappy or ingenuous. Also riotously funny and he really does have a touch of the awkward characters that he's so well known for. A genuinely nice man.

@TheMstoth I thought he was just a nice guy. We talked a few times and I even made a joke about his hair flopping like Hugh Grant. He got suddenly silent and I was like "oh my god, are you Hugh Grant?". He was and I had made stupid jokes about never seeing a Hugh Grant movie. I was mortified. But I just carried on as if he was a guy down the street and it was fine.

Did you read the Sense and Sensibility Diaries? They were written by Emma Thompson during her time adapting and filming and were published together with the screenplay. And it's absolutely hilarious - no wonder, it's Emma after all. But yes, there are many descriptions of conversations like Ang telling them it was boring or saying to Emma "Don't look so old.".
One of my favourites was when they shot the kiss scene for Edward and Elinor that was deleted later and Emma writes they shot it on a bridge and in the background, there were two swans that came floating in on the lake as if on cue, but Ang just said "Get rid of them. Too romantic."
I would very much recommend it for everyone that loves Emma and/or the movie or is simply interested in the process of adapting a book to film.

Chuu Choco So does Bruce Willis, Jack Nicholson, Robert De Nero, Kevin Hart, Samuel L Jackson being typecast is not indicative of poor acting abilities but rather poor business choices.

Loved this interview. Liked the clear honesty and throw away lines. Good sense of humour. Thanks.

Absolutely loved this insight into one of our best actors... every character he plays he brings his own personality and makes the character his own... I’m a huge fan...
