  • Florence Foster Jenkins was a New York socialite who had dreams of becoming an opera singer -- but not the talent to match. She performed at Carnegie Hall and became famous for her lack of rhythm and pitch. Oscar winner Meryl Streep and Golden Globe-winning actor Hugh Grant join "CBS This Morning" to discuss their new movie, "Florence Foster Jenkins."

    God I don’t like the tone of this interview at all. Meryl looks really uncomfortable. I hate how they started with “so how was it to work with an academy award winning actress Hugh?” both of them looked really uncomfortable. Meryl must be so fed up of people saying that. She just wants to be valued the same as any other actress. Not more or less. They should have focused more on the movie rather than on politics!!

    I didn't quite care for the tone of these questions...seems to me that the reporters wanted to come off looking cool rather than have a genuine interest for Meryl, Hugh or their work.....it's painful to see the PR gigs some of our greatest actors have to endure....

      She is a very good actress, but I think Trump was right in a sense when he said she was overrated.
      And before you jump down my throat, NO, I'm not saying she isn't a great actress - she IS. All I'm saying is that now that she has obtained, as the interviewer says here, "icon" status, people automatically praise everything she does, whether it's deserved or not. (Everyone here oohing and aahing over her facial expression in this interview is a perfect example).
      A movie comes out now with Meryl Streep in it and everyone fawns over it. No one wants to be the first one to say that a Meryl Streep movie sucks, or is just okay. Everything she does is "wonderful" and "brilliant", etc.
      If she had gotten up and defecated on that sofa, people here would be admiring her excrement and saying it was a brilliant piece of method acting.

    • @vanessaabiola1340
      @vanessaabiola1340 7 років тому +7

      I can't agree on you, that people are saying, everything she does is wonderful and brilliant, etc..
      Cuz when she had an opinion about Trump, she got a lot of hate, and now every time she opens her mouth about politics she gets hate from somebody.
      And another thing i can't agree on is that she is overrated, like you dont hear a lot about her, on a daily basis, like paparazzia takes pictures of her (before all that with politics)
      Im not the right person to defend Meryl, but i like the way you share your opinion

    It's one of the BEST comedy movies of 2016..both Streep and Grant put on excellent performances as does the actor Simon Helberg who played the pianist. It's a must watch movie even if you get it on DVD it will make the best Christmas present for an older generation with an acute sense of humour and a soft heart...love it

    I just saw this movie for the first time by surfing the channel at my friend's home and I tell you I laughed so hard. It was so funny and sad, and at the end it was a true story. I should have known it was a true story--it felt so real. And to top everything, all the actors were great, but Meryl Streep and Simon Helberg, OMG! It was so, so, so good! And guess what, no profanities! We don't have to have cuss words to get a movie across to someone. It was so so good. I am looking to download the movie. Wait a minute, Meryl can sing. I'm trying to remember the words before she died (in the movie) I cannot remember. It came home to me. You should get a chance to watch it!

Gayle definitely is an annoying interviewer. Talks over them, isnt very personable.she talks to them like they are aliens almost.
    Meryls answer that ended with "a huge wave of wonderfulness" was such a beautifully deep answer and it was completely ignored.

    When i was younger they used to say i looked like her but all they wanted from me was to make money out of me as a prozzie or as a stepping stone for themselves to be someone. Saying that i do not disrespect her because of the way life mistreats me, i was epitomized for so many years to be encouraged to go into the business and yet i felt that it was not for me. I stayed with my own values and office practice and yet i never became anything more than a dogsbody as a woman for the management that i worked for to attain credit in the companies that i worked for.
