    One of the perks of starting lifting later in life (I started around 36) is that you don't have to prove anything and can focus on form more than weight. I started squatting deep from the get go

      Its like if you start before your teens; you dont know enough about life to even have an ego lol.
      And if you start later in life; you already have so much other baggage/responsibilities that you couldn't care less what others think😂😂😂.

    24:37 - If you're an IFBB pro, it totally makes sense to try and maintain as much of that aesthetic as possible. There's purpose to it.
    But normal guys are obsessed with trying to maintain 6-8% year round for the sake of ego and nothing else. I don't get what the point is of crashing your test levels and being terminally hungry/deprived for no real reason.
    If you build a solid base and are able to maintain 10-15% year round, you'll look better than the majority of the population. It's a shame that more guys don't prioritize health and wellness.

    • @bensonvong
      @bensonvong Місяць тому

      Not sure if you saw the previous episode about getting addicted and doing ‘too much’ exercise/workouts but I think it ties in to this. Obviously working out and exercising is good for health. But for some people, they get sucked in a being the ‘workout, fit, ripped’ guy/gal becomes their identity. Which is why they are trying to maintain 6-8% BF even to others, there is no ‘purpose’. Body desmorphia is also a real thing. I had friends who were near 10% BF and still claimed he was fat. A lot of it is mental. Part of it is ‘ego’ but part is self worth as well as validation. Remember some of the people who worked out so long and hard was likely due to them being really fat or skinny. Unfortunately, that dedication grew into addiction. Even Sal admits he works out too much. It isn’t something that is easy to fix, especially internally.
      Which is why this podcast often takes about stepping back and evaluating what your goals are and whether you actions are conducive to those goals. And also why they also said ironically, the fitness space might actually have a higher percentage of people that are ‘unhealthy’ whether that is under eating, overtraining or taking too much steroids.

    • @ryandeffley7652
      @ryandeffley7652 Місяць тому

      @bensonvong - Yep, I commented on that one as well. Being a full-blown exercise addict myself, I have always struggled to find balance.
      So, that video definitely resonated with me. 😆 It's tough because no matter how active you are or how much you train, you always want to do more.

    I enjoy lifting by myself, however, I have a friend that I go with on weekends.
    It works well because we do some of the same lifts together and when we get to a point in our routine that’s different we just go our own ways and meet up after.
    And at the start of my journey having that gym partner on weekends truly helped me stay on track.
    I see it similar to the “growth minded” comment you all make. 🔥💪

    Hi All! Mindpump, thank you so very much for what you do. You guys have changed my life. True story.
    I have a question, I have very little mobility in my calfs, ankles and hips, I wore heels my entire career, 32 years. I can squat to a 90 degree angle but I can't go lower. If I elevate my heels, I can go all the way down. Are squats with heels raised more effective than my regular range of motion? I am open to lightening up the weight to try to go lower, Right now, I can't get down there with my feet flat on the floor. (I'm totally open to all opinions.)
    Thanks so much for your time!

    What Adam is talking about, I know as the Slav Squat. --- I have also grown to love working out alone, which has become a little difficult because I started going to the gym with my mom for reciprocal accountability. But she likes to do exactly what I'm doing and with us being at different fitness levels and 30 years difference.. it's just not feasible. But she feels sad and abandoned if I don't go to the gym with her, even when I suggest we do walks together.

    I think shortened ROM has it's place. Like you could go between size and strength phases 8-12 weeks each where you build size and when your strength starts to hit a stand-still, you switch to heavier weights, fewer reps, shortened range of motion, and now when you fo back to your hypertrophy phase, you can do more weight on those bigger sets and build more muscle.

    @cjwise7741 Місяць тому

    If you don’t use full ROM in a squat, you’re not doing a full compound lift. You’re basically quitting before you get the added benefits to the lower back, glutes, hamstrings, and hips. That lower 1/3 of the squat is just as if not more important that the top 2/3 of the movement

    For today's training, I cut down on my rep numbers. I use heavy weights and realized I often go pretty close to faliure.
    It certainly feels a lot more comfortable on the body to not push so hard. Still doing 2-3 minutes of recovery in between 3-4 rep sets feels bizarre though.
    Also: nothing keeps your ego in check like pain.

    Good day fine people!! I was wondering about any input on this. I'm over the medical docs thinking and assuming body builders eat too much.
    Yes, I was told by my endocrinologist "you will never reach a healthy weight if you are a body builder, you people eat too much." How does one even have the conversation with doctors regarding this myth?
    I know. It's not worth it but, for me as a thyroid cancer patient, it's important to stay on my path of muscle focus rather than getting skinny fat.
    At the time my coach had me on 1550 cals training 5 days a week, lifting, 2 recovery days.
    I was making progress (just not quick enough as a person on a starvation diet, cardio monster would.)
    Then I had a big injury, out for near a year and will be starting Starter. (UG - stupid ego is in my way.) But I'm mentally gearing up to get going again.
    Thank you.

    So im stuck in a pretty awful situation with my current body image and my relationship to workout and food. No matter what i do, i haven't been able to lose the 10kg of weight (mostly fat) which i have gained very rapidly out of no where. To cut it short, i really need your input on the diet im thinking of starting. It involves a toral of 93g of protein (all from natural source) and no grains as i feel thay quitting them may help with relief iny early hypothyroid symptoms - a total of 1200 calories approx, daily. Im want to reverse doet as my calorie intake have been pretty low for the longest time, and also very inconsistent . So ill start with this 1200 diet and increase 100 cal per week. Since this is the first time im starting reverse dieting and i feel like i struggle with understanding the concept fully, i want to know from you guys if this is the right approach and strategy? If not, then what do you suggest. Would really appreciate your response.

    I started phase 3 of Anabolic and those sissy squats kicked my ass. My quads are still sore 2 days later. What do you recommend after Anabolic?

      MAPS Performance, because you need to get out of those planes for a while. You'll find great rotations etc. in Performance and the different type of trainig will benefit you a lot. You can come back to more bodybuilding style like MAPS Aestethic after that.

    Sal is spot on because out of all of the creations, some of them, like us humans, are given the choice to pursue our own will, or, pursue the will of the Lord, yet we were designed to worship, just like every last creation is designed to worship. (The stars really do sing and dance, as the Bible says; if you look into footage from light telescopes&sound telescopes, and then think about powder on a subwoofer how it dances dofferently to different tunes). Regardless, people worship all sorts of things, they will worship a sports team, they will worship their house their yard their cars, they will worship a single person or a group of people, just like they will worship themselves. Sal is not wrong in this because this has been noted in many psychology journals

    I'm a 45 year old socially awkward female introvert with a resting bitch face too! I struggle with meeting folks as well and the pandemic made things worse for me because it was so easy to isolate. I go to the gym 5-6 days but folks don't talk to me that often. I guess I should start working on my "RBF" 😮

    Bought MassZymes today!!! Every time I eat more than 10G of protein in one sitting I get severe nausea and vomiting 🤮 I’m excited for the Bioptimizers because the struggle is real. I’m getting only 20-30 grams of protein per day vs the 100 that I need.

    It's sad a lot of the voices for hypertrophy are pulling away from full range of motion movements in favor of lengthened partials. Partials may be better for muscle growth in certain cases but the benefits of full rom are exponentially better.
