  • It’s been quite a while since we saw the PNSO Brian the Pachyrhinosaurus. Since then, I haven’t seen any other I wanted to get. Today however, we have one such. This is Haolonggood’s latest offering, and given how much I liked their Nasutoceratops and Pentaceratops, I thought I’d give this a try.
    The general is very pleasing, the colours are soothing, and all the important features of P. lakustai are expressed. A very nice model which captures this animal very well. I’m happy with this one, even though I still love the PNSO!

    i really like your reviews, since every other channel only says "look at the nice detail and the skin wrinkles" for over 11min
    your channel is truly special!

      Wow thank you so much for that! I know that I could probably get a lot more subscribers and fans by just 'getting to the money', but that's now what I want this channel to be about. If I can share my love of dinosaurs and dragons with fans who might then start to do their own reading and learn more, as well as help people appreciate the models they do have, and make decisions on those they don't, I would consider myself very fulfilled with this channel! 😁😁

    I actually love the slit pupil on these guys! Too often companies tend to stay away from oval pupils on animals unless it's a goat. I do agree that the pupils look a bit too long and should be more oval shaped and not extend to each end of the eye.
    While it can be tricky at first, once you get a good idea on how to make it look good it's not that hard to make oval pupils look good. I've been giving my horse drawings accurate, oval pupils more in the last few years. Horses are actually notorious for being given inaccurate, round pupils. Breyer is one of few companies that I've noticed who give their horses accurate, oval pupils. Even Sims (both 3 and 4) gives their horses round pupils... despite the goats and sheep having accurate oval pupils.

      Those models you talk about must be pretty big then! My CollectA horses have eyes to small to make out any such detail.
      I used to learn how to draw horses too. Failed miserably 😂 There is something incredibly majestic and magical about these animals!

    • @horse14t
      @horse14t 11 місяців тому

      @@DinosDragons Breyers can be pretty big indeed :P
      The Traditional size is 1:9 scale, about 23cm high give or take, depending on the horse.
      Classic is 1:12 scale at about 16cm high
      Stablemates are 1:32 about 8cm high.
      and Mini Whinnies are the smallest at 1:64 scale, roughly about 1 inch tall.
      I have a collection of Traditionals that one of my high school teachers gave me as a graduation present. I was never allowed to have any as a kid due to them being too expensive 🙁But now I have a bunch!

      HLG is certainly improving by leaps and bounds. In terms of detail, colour application and price. If only they get their accuracy up, they would give PNSO a run for the money!

      Tell me about it! No other company has come close to combining their paint applications, detailed texture, and _price point_ . Seems that _accuracy_ though is still a problem, which I would have thought was the easiest to rectify. They'll be monstrous when they get that sorted out!

    Hay una evolución muy acelerada en la calidad mostrada en su primer ceratópsido hasta este Pachyrhinosaurus. El detalle de las escamas, cada vez más sutiles y naturales, y la pérdida del miedo en hacer a estos animales robustos con pliegues de piel y arrugas. Lo normal en un animal de sus características. Y todo a un precio muy duro para su competencia. Pero lo que creo que les debe estar produciendo un gravísimo dolor de cabeza a la competencia es la velocidad con la que sacan nuevos productos 🤯🤯🤯 Si siguen a esta velocidad, se van a quedar sin especies "relativamente conocidas" que representar en menos de dos años 😂 Esperemos que haya mucho más Haolonggood durante mucho tiempo, son muy prometedores y solo acaban de comenzar. Gran vídeo 🤩

      En este momento, creo que HLG tiene impulso. ¡Entonces podría hacer lo que hizo PNSO hace dos años, cuando lanzaron uno cada dos semanas!
      Luego, después de construir una base de clientes dedicada, pueden reducir la velocidad. ¡Es increíble cómo pueden mantener los precios tan bajos!
      PNSO hizo lo mismo, y después de construir una clientela sólida, comenzaron a experimentar con animales más oscuros. ¿Recuerdas el Atopodentatus, el Livyatan y el arriesgado Nanotyrannus?

    Do you think they will soon start to make the more famous herbiovores as Stegosaurus, Triceratops, Parasaurolophus soon?

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  7 місяців тому

      I wouldn't be surprised if they do, but I believe that HLG specializes in giving us genera we want but have been neglected by the general market. So maybe it will not be so soon. We do already have good models of most of the more famous dinosaurs!🙂

  • @kwaziness
    @kwaziness Рік тому +2

    I think they've nailed the ceratopsian bauplan, but what they could work on are their frills. their frill sculpts for this and the Nasutoceratops create a vertex at the top instead of widening out, and the parietal embayment of the Pentaceratops was an obvious oversight.

    • @kwaziness
      @kwaziness Рік тому

      + I'd like to add that I'm sure creating the circular frills they're going with will obviously be cheaper to mould than the wider or irregularly-shaped, accurate frills, especially since they stick out and are so thin, but it is still an area in need of improvement regardless

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  11 місяців тому +1

      Hmmm I wonder how much of it is actually due to ease for production. If you look at some of their other models, they certainly seem to have no problem dealing with more complex shapes. Once the first mould is done, Bob's your uncle. I think it's more a case of their research process, which is ironic because I would imagine this part to be the easiest. The harder facets like sculpt detail, paint application and affordable price HLG has already nailed!

    "The best upcoming prehistoric animal figure company of the year" award goes to Haolonggood without any arguments. They gave us such beautiful figures in quick sessions, and our prehistoric toy figure community appreciates their work so highly. This figure is so nice and gorgeous. But since I have the PNSO Pachyrhinosaurus figure, I think I will skip this one (but maybe someday I will have this). My favorite one is that dark variant. And I would appreciate it if any other company could show some love to Pachyrhinosaurus canadensis and Pachyrhinosaurus perotorum. I've never seen them get their respective figures, sadly. And I really would love to see Haolonggood lay their hands on Prehistoric Marine animals, Prehistoric flying animals, Theropods, and prehistoric mammals. In that way, they can compete with other companies and at the same time can give us some amazing figures. Thank you so much for this fantastic video, my dear sir. You are the best. ❤

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  11 місяців тому +1

      You are too kind!
      Well it would be nice if we could have the other species of Pachyrhinosaurus in the same scale, so that we can appreciate not just the morphology differences but also those of size. But I guess from the point of view of saleability, the more ornamentation a dinosaur has, the better. Hence I have seen Edmontosaurus regalis ad nauseum, but not E. annectens! 😥😥

    I’m going to sound like a broken record. There are a number of recent HLG offerings that I’ve really liked sculpt wise but found the paint really lackluster.
    This particular figure I really like…..sculpt wise.
    The paint application is …meh.
    The details brought out on the green’s head are terrific but the orange is more pleasing to me.
    The upper thighs still look like steroids have been used but the reduced “baggy-ness” and reduction of the ultra wrinkly skin on past ceratopsians is a better direction.
    So, I like this figure but I will probably put it in line with other future repaints.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  11 місяців тому

      Indeed, those hindlegs still look over muscles to me no matter how long I look at them. The juxtaposition with those baggly lines don't help the aesthetics much! The green _does_ look rather faint to me now that I look at it again. Hopefully their upcoming Dilophosaurus will have colours worthy of that animal!

    This is one very pretty figure, halonggood really starts being amazing, just yesterday I got their wuerhosaurus and it's breathtaking so solid and you can feel some heft, the details are also amazing especially for that small size...I really can't wait to see halonggood's style on other dinosaurs, high hopes for a 1:35 camptosaurus since ornithopods are overlooked by every company almost and camptosaurus specifically is quite large so it would be possible to make at that scale

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  11 місяців тому +1

      I have been _dying_ for a styracosternan! I don't think any companies have looked at them because ornithopods are so 'unexciting', and yet it is precisely that ordinariness that I would love to have in my collection! This one being closely related to the iguanodonts might tip the scales in its favour a bit.
