  • Haolonggood gives us another sauropod, a titanosaur this time, and the very unusual Ampelosaurus to boot! As you would expect, an Ampelosaurus is the perfect playground to try for textures and sculpted detail, and Haolonggood doesn’t disappoint!
    The colours are incredible on this, reminding me of some of Haolonggood's earlier works. There are two colour variants, the other being the black. I’m super happy to have got this. This one has to be seen to be believed!

    That'd be a perfect design for Frontier to use for their Ampelosaurus if they add the dinosaur in Jurassic World Evolution 2.

      They are really firing on all cylinders! Ticking so many checkboxes. The only thing I wish they would improve on is their scientific accuracy, which is surprising seems this would be the low-hanging fruit to pick.

    Wow, this might be the best mass-produced Ampelosaurus figure ever. Haolonggood sauropods and other herbivores are on another level. Even though I like that black version a lot, I admire this green version as well. Hopefully, Haolonggood will continue to amaze us with its random species and excellent color patterns. And I must say that Cesar Gomez Ampelosaurus is just out of this world. It looks alive and so eye-catching. I'm sure you have a special place on your shelves for it.😉I do have that CollectA Ampelosaurus and I love that little fellow, but hopefully, I'll be able to get this gentle giant someday. Thank you for this amazing review, my dear sir. Keep it up 🖤

      Indeed, *random* is the magic word for HLG offerings! I love how we never know what they are coming up with, similar to the kind of mystery and excited anticipation we used to have with PNSO way back. That they are willing to give us sauropods which PNSO doesn't seem to want to touch is just an added bonus and given many people are looking to either HLG or PNSO, I think HLG is definitely going to have plenty of non-contested sales!
      Take care my friend!

    Another informative review. Thank you! I'm getting the green one too. I also like the black one. But, I guess it's because of past conditioning, I always think of theropods when I see the colors red and black together. The green also makes more sense for camouflaging effects when it would be out grazing amongst the foliage, allowing it to blend in better. Where as with the red and black colors, it would stand out quite a bit.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  9 місяців тому +1

      Good point! Another idea might be that as some sauropods got up to certain sizes, camouflage might not be so feasible, and they also had less to fear from predators. So there has been a recent spate of colourful sauropod art. But yes, red and black is a deadly combo. I believe some manufacturers have this combo on predators they offer. Thanks for your support!

    Dacentrurus, Edmontonia and Ampelosaurus all arrived the other day. I have to say HLG is really doing a fine job with the non-theropod releases. Not perfect but, as you’ve said, for the money, they’re well worth picking up. My Ampel came with subtler colors with the spinal striping lighter and overlaying each other which was pleasing. The lower neck, body and tail seemed to have received a darker ‘wash’ which blended into the darker tones of the upper body colors. The black version didn’t look as good as the green in some promotional pictures but after seeing it reviewed, it did look really good, I think I’ll pick that one up, as well. Exciting time to be a sauropod fan on a budget. Hoping the trend continues. Even if the head sculpt is off(and I will do an eye repaint)this is still a very welcome figure.
    I was also surprised by how well done the Dacentrurus was. Video doesn’t do it justice. I highly recommend this figure, too.
    The Edmontonia is still boxed up. I’ll get to that one later.
    Thanks for a great review and walk-around as always.
    Just one last comment for anyone of the figure producers that might skim through these reviews.
    LIGHTEN UP ON THE THEROPODS!
    SAUROPODS, HADROSAURS, ETC.!
    please and thank you….

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  9 місяців тому

      Thank you for your mini review! Indeed, many of these models are really well done and look a lot better in hand. Largely due to lighting, but also unless you have a really highend camera, you just don't have as great a dynamic range to capture all the subtleties. PNSO for example, needs to be had in hand and compared to HLG for you to realise that as good as HLG is, it will be a while before they catch up.
      I really am desperate for more herbivores. There are too many theropods especially this year. As good as PNSO is, I'm fast approaching burnout when it comes to theropods and if this continues, I may have to start to be more selective.

    ¡Vaya figura! Haolonggood va en una dirección muy buena. Es curioso como siendo un animal tan completo, no se hayan realizado estudios o representaciones más actualizadas que las de principios de los 2000. Pero como bien comentas, hay que disfrutar de lo que se tiene actualmente y es este gran Ampelosaurus. Un grandísimo análisis 😊

    • @DinosDragons

      ¡En efecto! Ha habido muchos dinosaurios que han estado atrapados en el limbo durante algún tiempo. Por ejemplo, creo que el tegumento de la piel del Carnotaurus no se describió completamente hasta 2022. Supongo que hay demasiado trabajo por hacer y muy pocos paleontólogos.

    • @DinosDragons

      The Patagotitan is in a totally different size class by itself. Patagotitan has a femur of about 2.4m and Ampelosaurs only around 1.1m I believe.

    Was that made 2023? That looked more like original accurate version. I could tell by those scutes/spikes arrangements. I thought it's latest accurate arrangements' similar to what Agustinia was thought to look like.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  9 місяців тому

      Actually the latest thinking on this is that titanosaurs don't have as many osteoderms as usually depicted. This HLG would seem to have taken the road of more being better.
      Agustinia is actually no longer valid, and it was a very sad day for me when I found out! 😪😪

  • @RichardLee888

    The issue I have with HLG is now the eyes. I do not like the eyes they paint on, 沒有神, like you said “cartoon” like. I really want to get this one and the larger one from them, the eyes stopped me.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  8 місяців тому

      Do you have a friend who can repaint? It _is_ sad that the eyes always look weird, and that alone prevents you getting a splendid model. But remember, 有瑕疵的钻石也要比完美的鹅卵石好! 😁😁

    • @DinosDragons

      Yes it seems like HLG always has that one or two points that prevent their models from being more completely scientific. But I think they are really doing good work and are well on their way. They already have the paint apps and sculpting to a high level. Just waiting for research and accuracy to catch up!

      I suspect that the general idea of Ampelosaurus should still be encompassed quite nicely in this model. HLG actually has not always fully reflected known skeletal reconstructions in any case, so they might not have factored in the upcoming paper.
