  • This one is a KEEPER.
    PNSO has consistently delivered delight after delight, but this one tops even all that's gone on recently! I love ceratopsians, especially unusual ones, and the PNSO Pachyrhinosaurus is one such beautiful beast!
    Every detail has been lovingly captured in an amazing sculpt, which is then elevated again with an impressive paintjob. There is almost nothing bad I can say about this amazing model. PNSO keeps hitting it out of the park, and the only thing bad I could remotely say is that it makes it hard to be selective when you are running out of space and money!

    Brian was my entry to the world of Dinosaurs after over 20 years of "pause". I'm so happy with him! Since you said that Ceratopsians are your second favourite group of Dinosaurs, what's your most favourite?

      Sauropods! 😁
      I'm delighted you got this. It's really a beautiful model. PNSO had another repaint offered, which I didn't quite like as much. I'm just a sucker for blue eyes I guess! 😁

    I can feel your excitement because the tone of your voice sounds like a little boy who got what he wanted. This figure is definitely an amazing piece of art. Love the head sculpt and the color scheme. And I also think that this figure represents Pachyrhinosaurus lakustai. I'm not an expert, but it seems like that the nasal boss is a mix between Lakustai and Canadensis (I saw this difference in some pictures and read about it in some articles). If that is the case then there is a little problem. But as you said this happened due to use or injury then all ok. And that Safari one looks more like a P. Canadensis to me. Either way I learned some new things thanks to you good Sir. Thank you so much and please keep up the good work

      Thanks as always for your comments Rajitha! The other idea I don't think I mentioned in the video is quite simply that the keratinous covering over the bosses might simply have filled in the cleft between the two bumps, presenting a unified appearance as we see here.
      One thing I believe PNSO is meticulous about is getting all the skeletal and reconstruction references they have, so I doubt they would make big mistakes. So everything is probably a conscious design decision. I was absolutely delighted as you noted when I received this. Because the form is such a bruiser the way I always thought of certaposians, plus the paint job was so good. This combination of sculpt and paint I had to that point only very rarely experienced with Safari and CollectA.

      For me is a normal no-emotionated Voice Tone. Normal. The Figure is very cute, the Boss of Safari is more beautiful but Pnso is more realistic.

    Wow.. um as I get to compare mine to this one in the video.. it looks much different because the paint job on mine was a later version I think.

      Yes indeed. This was a model I loved so much, especially the colour, that I ordered another one this year. I was most surprised that it was now a new paint scheme, not the old one.☹☹

    Another great review. I agree, PNSO continues to elevate the bar. It’s going to be tough to exceed (or even meet) the quality of their current offerings. Hope they are up to the challenge lol

      Thanks William! PNSO really hit it out of the ballpark with this one. I just reviewed the Spinosaurus and it seems to be going strong. I almost worry that the other shoe is going to drop! It seems wonderful that PNSO can produce figures of this quality, painted so well, and for such a low price, and I hope nothing changes in their management and creative teams as sometimes happens as companies grow bigger.
      I almost worry that Safari and CollectA might find it hard to compete in time.

      Lol how did that happen! Wrongly labelled product? Considering that was what happened when I bought a Safari Ltd Chinese dragon that WASN'T a Safari Ltd Chinese Dragon, I'm not surprised! Hope you enjoy your figure, it's amazing!

      Tell me about it! And hopefully as well painted as thi Pachyrhinosaurus. Their more recent Centrosaurus was disappointing 😁

      I have some concern for Safari and CollectA unless they really up their paintjobs. Their sculpts are actually very nice, but when PNSO has that too, plus a very amazing paintjob, the whole result is elevated.

    Hi, I just see another lakustai " beast of the Mesozoic" . And, I hope that PNSO also made a detailed daspletosauris!

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  3 роки тому

      I hope so too! I'm for tyrannosaurs that are clearly distinct from each other, and now that we have the tyrannosaurid with the arms that are proportionately the smallest in Tarbosaurus, gives us Daspleteosaurus, with proportionately the longest!
      The BotM figures are really nice. I didn't get the lakustai (not enough space and money) but I did get the subsadult Triceratops and it looks nice. Different things though; their focus is on the articulation, which is really impressive.

    Thanks for the review, the paint apps and overall sculpt look great, but I am concerned about accuracy of the rendition of the bos.. it seems to represent P. lakustai, but the gap between the supra-orbital bos and nasal bos seems to be too narrow. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful figure overall.

      I had the same head-scratching experience. That's why I asked viewers what they thought, because it clearly doesn't have the clearly defined space that differentiates P. Lakustai at least to my untrained eye. Even looked up the Tyoski 2019 paper to help get a clue. What helps me sleep at night is imagining that the decreased space is due to build up of keratin and scar tissue overlying the actual bone core 😂🤣

    Great review! I have Duke the Spinops which I love, but this paint takes this up to another level I think!

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you! I felt surprised that as much as I love green, the way Spinops was painted didn't really bring out the best in him. It's a quality Ceratopsian though, and if PNSO tackles more of them, I foresee going bankrupt lol.

  • @marcojonaslapuz8746

    PNSO's rendition of Pachyrhinosaurus, could be based on the subspecies P. lakustai, judging by the seemingly concaved or indented nasal boss of the in-hand figure. I can see that its nasal boss is much smaller than that of the two former species, with P. perotorum as having the larger and more pronounced nasal boss. That diagram that you presented in the intro, of the three types of Pachyrhinosaurus skulls, was really helpful.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  3 роки тому

      Thanks for your input! The thing is what threw me off is the cleft between the supraorbital and nasal bosses look really narrow, what I'd expect for canadensis and perotorum. I expected it to be much wider for lakustai.
      The recurved frill epiparietals might also suggest canadensis (I understand perotorum didn't have them). But canadensis as far as I know doesn't have a rostral comb. Perotorum did.
      So I took a stab at lakustai. I figured perhaps PNSO wanted to represent more keratinization in the real animal which would fill the gap a little more, since I don't think PNSO makes mistakes... right?

      @@DinosDragons I guess it all boils down to the artistic license of the sculptors. It's a common practice even in paleoart when the artists that are attempting to reconstruct or to "flesh-out" an extinct animal, sometimes have to work off of scant fossil remains. Adding more keratinization could simply be their way of trying to "fill in the gaps."
