Cool project! Can't wait to follow along. I own a '79 r65 that I have had for years. After installing the Siebenrock 860 power kit I realized that I am slowly falling in love with this bike and that I could use it for longer rides. Also installed new carbs, a EME ignition system, new (lighter) starter motor, modern battery, and taller 5th gear. My next project is to upgrade the front brakes to four pot caliper and larger rotor.
I'd be really interested in a video about using Mikuni carburetors replacing the Bings that seem to fail on my '87 R80 at random times throughout the year. My boots all smell like gas!
Reminds me of a 1975 Norton Commando I restored to stock+ condition. Cost me about the same and was fortunate to sell it for a little more than I had into it. But cost aside, I've never gotten more satisfaction out of a project having taken a used and abused bike back to "like new". It was a joy to look at and ride.
Excited to see this build- I tastefully did a similar rebuild of a low mileage 78RS - Very interested in the Mikunis - any consideration given to the Wedgetail ignition? Installed a couple on my bikes and really made an enormous impact.
Ooooh Super nice project, would you know if the mikuni's are available for all boxer models? ive a 77, R75/7 have replaced all carb parts inc uprated float bowl's for the fuel here in the UK, but the're allways flooding out, so wondering if mikuni's be a better fit, also keeping original air box as well.
@@MikeHarveyPhoto Oh I get it. I have rebuilt old VW s & a BMW K75. Was it worth the work & cost? No way. Out of all of them, my karmann ghia convertible was profitable. Would never do it again.
@@konnieblaze2116 I dont think anyone who does a rebuild really ever does it to make money out of it,it is done for the love,see what people spen on boats,cars,trains the list goes on.Not everything should have a money value

Would the 38 Mikuni be the right fit for R100rt? Where do I find the adapters?
you need to find a lathe and an aluminum cylinder first

Why bother?! Find one in better shape that doesnt need this much stuff. Waste of money to me.
