1977 BMW R100RS purchased by the original owner, This bike will have every nut/bolt/bearing/seal/gasket replaced!! When I say everything I mean EVERYTHING! PLEASE join the channel to support the build! - Авто та транспорт
I bought one of these used in '84, parked it in 05. Early model w/ wire wheels. Mice got in the air box, made a big mess, chewed alt. wires. Fixed wires for 18$. Cleaned alt rotor & stator. Cleaned terminals on diode board and all tested ok
Bike started like I parked it yesterday and charging system works great! Most parts are still available and they ain't cheap! We both have a great classic!
After 20 years in the barn, I pulled my '87 R80 out. I'm the original owner, but the mice thought they owned it. They made a nest in the flat air filter, which filtered down into the carbs. I needed a whole new airbox and hoses, new ignition amplifier, new coil. Then I had to rebuild the carbs and rewire everything the mice had eaten. Now the bike is running, although not as smoothly as I remember. What a project! Best of luck with yours! It is going to be awesome.
I hope you document the entire build; this will be great!
The Bmw Guy, Patiently waiting to see this build
ohhh its coming along! buying every new old stock part i can
Looks like the original first model RS, silver colour, 1 1/2 seat. Nice. I owned the next model - gold RS 1978 model for two years in the 1980s.
I am a jap bike mechanic but just took on a restore on my father in laws 76 or 77 R75 that he has owned for years. I will be following yours.
Beautiful! Right on time for a winter project! Have fun and good luck!
Nice find! Love the colour.
Im staying tuned in
You did good. 😀
Great find indeed……lucky man! BMW guys love a spread sheet!
You got that right!
Great find. I helped restore the 1976 demo model supplied to Park Lane BMW. Same colour. Wheels should have a blue line round them like the fairing. I had these in the eighties. Still have an R80 and R100RS from 1980. The RS had 19K on it when i bought it about eight years ago. U.K.
Wow, bike came with a free pet mouse...that's new!
heck yeah
Had a R100RS 1982 myself. Great bike.
Don 't loose them horns. The sound is impressive!
Good luck.
Ed.
0:50 so satisfying!! How do people allow a classic to get so dirty?
Sweet project!!
Look’s like it’s going to be a real fun project I will be looking forward to your progress
That mouse has good taste in motorcycles. He didn't want to leave his home!
Death To Mousies! No Quarter!
I have 5 motorcycles in my garage - 4 of them BMWs -- and the mousies have always seemed to prefer Bavarian Iron. The air intake on the Airheads is a favorite entry point -- as you've already seen once they're in there everything under the starter and front engine covers is fair game. Replacing the factory plastic intake screen with something made of metal will at least slow the little feckers down. I also have an F800 GS Adventure that is crazy tall, and the last time I did some routine service I had the same Ralph Mouse condo action on top of the bike's fuel pump, which, when sitting on the main stand, is at least 4 feet off the floor. They are merciless. So should you be.
You hate mices to pieces!
I’m restoring a k75 I find the mechanical easier than aesthetic
I have tools but no sandblaster or painting shed
I think next bike I’ll get one mechanically flawed but aesthetically good
Good luck, mate! 👍
Ummm, very interesting! I still have mine, bought it in July 1977 from Bud Van Sice in Wilmington Delaware. I’ll be interested in how your rebuild goes. Mines still in one piece but does have a few modifications.
I never did like Lester wheels as they had a reputation for cracking. I was able to source a pair of BMW snowflake and gave my wire wheels to a friend, Bert Stuckert- WERA racer back in the 80s.
Nice project, hope you got it cheap, lol. I see you got the silver Chiltons manual. Beware of the editors error in the carb tuning section. Mid paragraph it switches to carb balancing. I put sticky notes in mine to finish the one paragraph, and properly start the next one.
That's just barely broken in at that milage. Pay special attention to the wheel and neck bearings. Test the valve springs. Know that the bike was run at mostly slow speeds at to low of a egt. Get those wheel bearings out as fast as you can. They probably have water in them now from the wash. Never use a pressure washer. Use lemon pledge and rags on a Airhead. Brake cleaner brass brush, rags on engine case.
this is going to be a complete frame off build, nothing is going untouched. wasn't the least bit concerned about water intrusion. wheels are all redone and re laced and new bearings/seals.
neck bearings are removed and frame is at the powder coater's shop
Best Mouse Wash. Lol
Oh dear previous owner worked at a BMW dealership did he? Looks suspiciously like the Johnny Cash Song "One Piece At A Time" ! 😊
Trust me the mouse is not your buddy!
Fun project
much love! I've bought some stuff from you :)
I did much the same with my 82 r100rs- a total restoration. I'll be following to see if I can add any advice. Im a little jelly of your spares like the tank. Got an extra exhaust header?
Great video, what a find - looks horrible initially but yeah - you got something there! Curious to know the Production Date and Serial Number on the VIN Plate. Also curious if this bike has a matching SN decal in the fairing (right side), and if this is a 40mm (big pipe) or a 38mm?
I'm doing a build on a 83 r100rt. I may hit you up on some parts
Are you selling the stock wheels? I have a '77 find in similar condition, but want the original wheels and maybe a tank.
i do have a stock front wheel if you are interested
Hey man I just got a 1983 R65 that has been in a shed for a good decade or so. Shows 17K on the odometer. Needs everything really. I’m not much of an engine mechanic but I can sort of do everything else on these bikes. How can I find out what you may charge me to get this thing rolling again? I’d like to have it going by next spring. Cheers!
shoot me an E-mail.
Hello. I’d be interested in one of the R100rs seats, if one is still available?
i have a 2 up seat, let me know if interested @ thebmwguy126@gmail.com
O dear....!
Are you still selling RS parts? Do you have an extra snowflake front wheel? Or if you have front and rear spoked wheels, I’d be interested in them…
both sold
When are you going to start this project?
Rodent urine is terribly corrosive! Mouse damage is my most common AG equipment repair!
in this case everything is getting replaced so its not going to be a problem.
Are you a member of the Airheads Beemer Club?
yes sir
Derry
Do you have an extra oil cooler?
If he doesn't I do.
@@canterburyfour what would you sell it for?
@@terryross6070 $80.00 for just the cooler
@@canterburyfour thanks but got one from Barber's Vintage days for $40.
The '77 RS didn't start out with an oil cooler. fyi.
That's NOT an RS! It's a /7 with the RS fairing. (Just like mine.) Single disc front & drum rear brakes. This morning I'm heading to South Dakota to trade my'78 /7 RS for a genuine R100RS.
ok, your wrong. but congrats on the new RS
Did Biker Mouse return ?
Would you like to sell any of those "extra" parts????
what are you interested in? most has already been sold
