This place is totally mesmerizing. Their food is unique yet it tells something about their history as well. We appreciate Mark Wiens for showing us what it’s like to explore places that may not be well known. They sure have a lot to showcase apart from the food they serve. No one can replicate Trini spices, composition and texture combinations. They made Indian food lighter, tastier and better. Plus they have Chinese and African influence. How can you beat that combination? I find whenever there is an Indian, Chinese and African fusion in food, it tastes insane. Jamaican, Malaysian, Peri Peri Mozambique are examples. It's the best food in the world when those 3 cultures collab.
Can you elaborate because this comment is iffy when you look at the Food history of Trinidad? For one, If you're basing Indian food off the piss poor Indian restaurants locally, you're being disingenuous. Local Indo-Trinidadian food might win on Nostaligia though. Plus, taste is subjective. And it is lighter as you said. But the whole reason why it's lighter is due to the lack of ingredients available to the Indians to make their dishes when they came to Trinidad. They had curry powder provided by the British and that was more or less it. This powder was created by Indian merchants to trade with the British. This is likely why there is less sauce in curry chicken and why curry chicken is a different dish from Chicken Curry. Considering the fact that Trini spices is heavily based on what was coming out of Asia and being spread by the Europeans as well as what was being cultivated locally by the Indigenous people, I'd say it can be more or less replicated. Composition and texture is debatable. Also, a lot of your examples for insanely tasty cuisines are based off predominately Native, Indian, Chinese, Middle Eastern flavors and spices. Southeast Asian countries basically combine Chinese cooking techniques with Indian spices. Africa Bird eye chillies come from America and Peri Peri seasoning was likely created by the Portuguese. That part is a hot topic though. The Africans contributed certain cooking techniques with the most notable one being caramelizing with brown sugar. Stewed meat and Trinidadian Pelau uses these techniques. I will admit that I personally think that using sugar to caramelize meat etc is something black, possibly creole Caribbean people came up with. I've watched a lot of African people cook but I have never seen this technique. I've never seen Indians or Chinese use it either. I feel like we really leave out indigenous people and their contributions to the world cuisine and especially Caribbean Cuisine. We have banger food. You're right about that. Just wanted to clarify some things based on your comment.
Verdade! os vídeos do amigo Mark são sensacionais. E um lugar é incrível. Estou me programando pra conhecer e filmar este belíssimo lugar. Amo Trinidad and Tobago
WOW WOW WOW. What a BEAUTIFUL place. To swim!!!! To relax and to enjoy all the Caribbean JEWELDISHES. God Bless MARK FOR SHARING THIS VIDEOS. Thank You Mark. 🎈🎈🎈🎈🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎉🎉🎉🎉🏆🏆🏆🏆
I love how you covered all of Trinidad and Tobago, not only one particular group like others covering my country. I love how you pronounce Trinidad, just like us , 😘😘😘
❤this episode is a new learning experience for me. Trinidad, feels like heaven on earth - so lush, blessed with all types of herbs, spices, meats and definitely very polite and hospitable people. The lobster and roasted fish prepped carefully with many ingredients. Must be so tasty. The fried shark fillets - yummmmmm. The potato pie and the shrimp. Wow it’s a Mecca of food. Thanks Mark and the gang!
My family is from Haiti and I have friends from just about everywhere like Jamaica, Guyana and other Caribbean West Indian places But l must say NOBODY makes Calalou the way a Trini makes Calalou. Oh My Gosh, I have a friend from Carinage and she made me some and put some coconut cream and scotch bonnet pepper 🌶️ OMG SO GOOD
If she did only put a piece of pigtail or drop some crab in it, you would have migrate to down here (Trinidad) and you could have move in by me. Next time
🇹🇹 Waiting on that Tobago Curry Crab & Dumpling and Tobago Blue Food Video 🇹🇹 Also a Trini Chinese Food Vid would be cool 2. Glad 2 see you're enjoying T&T 😊
I was waiting for this. You can't come to Trinidad and not have bake and shark at Maracas!!! These videos are making me so homesick, but I'm so happy to see you giving our local cuisine the love and appreciation it deserves. 🇹🇹🇹🇹❤️❤️
I cannot describe how much I love these videos Mark! I wasn't into food videos, but lately I adore them and when I travel I feel like trying all sorts! Wonderful video, so excited to watch! Not long ago I dreamt that i was in Trinidad, I wish I could go there! xx
What a surreal moment seeing Mark wiens in Trinidad and Tobago!!! Thank you Mark Wiens for coming to our twin island to experience our culture, our people and our food. Big shout out to you on being one the the most amazing foodie bosses 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾👊🏾
This is such an excellent series on Trinidad. Its even cool for Trinidadians to see because I didn't know about some of these places either. You are doing such a great job. It's a variety, it's knowledge. It's everything. Great job.
Trinidad has incredible food and such graciously kind people. Great vid Mark! It is amazing to me how you stay so slim as you are truly one of the greatest eaters on the planet!👍🏽🌶
Mark did more Justice to Trinidad and Tobago then David Hoffman did and I love him for that not just trying our Indian cuisine but going outside of the box
All time favourite UA-camr! It started following Mark ar around 4.5 Mill. subscribers. To see him at 9.37 is so amazing! What i really appreciate is htat he never changed anything. You can watch him 6 years ago and you won't find a different Mark. There are a lot of very famous UA-camr these days, but i think Mark is one of the very few that actually deserves everything he got.
What’s truly beautiful about our rich multi cultural twin island is the respect for each other’s distinct culture and the pride to showcase the fusion of all the cultures we inherited. We are truly one people!
Oh mama I am absolutely drooling over that bake and shark and the potato pie with shrimp! They look incredible, and simple in the best way. And the pepper, garlic, tamarind, and cilantro sauces... C’mon now... unfair!
The pineapple is my fave part since it balances it all out. Fried bake is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with a buttery and slightly sweet taste, the shark is salty and juicy and well seasoned, the veggies in the toppings add a fresh crispness, but the pine (and tamarind sauce) is where it's at. Not everyone can make it well, but when you get a tasty bake and shark your beach day is 10x better.
That brought back a lot of memories eating shark and bake at Maracas! The taste and enjoyment of eating bake and shark are impossible to top and I have never eaten anything better (and I live in France)! Mark, you do an amazing job! Keep it up and thank you!
that Brasso Seco plate is really special; love to all the indigenous TnT population Cocoa and coffee often grow side by side (that's what i observed when visited a few plantations) and the processing of both is both similar (picked ripe (wet) and left out in the sun to dry for few weeks and then roasted and ground)
@@stefanjay6856 don't know details myself, but their dishes look really good (dhalalloo stood out for me, beautiful combination got to try that)...and they would use a lot of cassava (one of my fav ground provision) like most indigenous folks do, and maybe breadfruit and fish in their cooking as well; i'm with you but i'll give dem a few tries to see more variety
He will experience the majority of the popular local cuisine or foods, we all mix together to form our lovely culture and people, we are one people under God, we are Trini 😃❤

The food on Trinidad and Tobago reflect the variety of people and cultures that have been mixed together on both islands. Caribbean food is rated as one of the best foods in the world because of its seasoning process. All Caribbean islands season their food differently so the taste is unique to each island.

@@jhenbarrow9435 oh dear ... I feel your pain ... why not get the recipe ... most of the ingredients aren't that exotic and the shark can be substituted with another type of fish ... like, personally, I don't like shark ... I prefer cat fish, which I think is a popular alternative for the sandwich here ... and depending on where you are, you just might be able to get some of the condiments like tamarind sauce or garlic sauce ... if you can't get tamarind sauce, you could maybe get some mangoes and make curried mango instead (as a substitute) ... but, I know ... in the moment, you were wanting to have bake 'n shark filling your two hands ...

Oh my gosh this brings back SO many memories of when I visited Trinidad. Maracas Bay took my breath away. Cameras simply could not do it justice and bake and shark! It was soooo good. Definitely one of my favorite foods I ate when I visited. This Trinidad series is making me want to book another flight right now!
Book that flight! Lol
I live in Trinidad my self and it is such an honour to Mark visiting our island/country may GOD bless you all from Trinidad and Tobago or trinbago
Also to Mark I watch like every single video you upload
stay safe and GOD bless to every one
No one can replicate Trini spices, composition and texture combinations. They made Indian food lighter, tastier and better. Plus they have Chinese and African influence. How can you beat that combination? I find whenever there is an Indian, Chinese and African fusion in food, it tastes insane. Jamaican, Malaysian, Peri Peri Mozambique are examples. It's the best food in the world when those 3 cultures collab.
Great explanation 🇹🇹🇹🇹
Wow thanks for this. Can’t wait to try those
😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Go down to Guyana and Suriname if you think Trinidad is good.
@@imacarguy4065 Bro, I'm not an expert, don't take what I said too seriously. It's roughly correct.

Verdade! os vídeos do amigo Mark são sensacionais. E um lugar é incrível. Estou me programando pra conhecer e filmar este belíssimo lugar. Amo Trinidad and Tobago
Thank you very much Razi!

Thank you Mark for visiting, thank you Zack for hosting, thank you Visit Trinidad. Great promotion for our foods and our country. All are welcome. ❤

Dr. Roast knows what he is doing, and he laid out his kitchen very well.

I love how you covered all of Trinidad and Tobago, not only one particular group like others covering my country. I love how you pronounce Trinidad, just like us , 😘😘😘
But Richard's is the best.

Oh My Gosh, I have a friend from Carinage and she made me some and put some
coconut cream and scotch bonnet pepper 🌶️ OMG SO GOOD
If she did only put a piece of pigtail or drop some crab in it, you would have migrate to down here (Trinidad) and you could have move in by me. Next time
🇹🇹 Waiting on that Tobago Curry Crab & Dumpling and Tobago Blue Food Video 🇹🇹 Also a Trini Chinese Food Vid would be cool 2. Glad 2 see you're enjoying T&T 😊
I was waiting for this. You can't come to Trinidad and not have bake and shark at Maracas!!! These videos are making me so homesick, but I'm so happy to see you giving our local cuisine the love and appreciation it deserves. 🇹🇹🇹🇹❤️❤️
Thank you so much, for sure!
I cannot describe how much I love these videos Mark! I wasn't into food videos, but lately I adore them and when I travel I feel like trying all sorts! Wonderful video, so excited to watch! Not long ago I dreamt that i was in Trinidad, I wish I could go there! xx

This is such an excellent series on Trinidad. Its even cool for Trinidadians to see because I didn't know about some of these places either. You are doing such a great job. It's a variety, it's knowledge. It's everything. Great job.

Oh mama I am absolutely drooling over that bake and shark and the potato pie with shrimp! They look incredible, and simple in the best way. And the pepper, garlic, tamarind, and cilantro sauces... C’mon now... unfair!
Bake and shark is my all time favorite food! Seeing videos like this only makes me prouder of my beautiful country!
@@patmccrutch3927 It's going on my "must-try" list right now!
Behave Pat, behave…you know where that leads to 😜
Love it. Looks so yum. Mark you're officially a Trini. Continue to enjoy.
That brought back a lot of memories eating shark and bake at Maracas! The taste and enjoyment of eating bake and shark are impossible to top and I have never eaten anything better (and I live in France)! Mark, you do an amazing job! Keep it up and thank you!
Thank u for your kind words about out country hope u get to visit and eat a bake and shark again
Yesss, never seen Mark enjoy food as much as when he is in Trinidad
So true
that Brasso Seco plate is really special; love to all the indigenous TnT population
Cocoa and coffee often grow side by side (that's what i observed when visited a few plantations) and the processing of both is both similar (picked ripe (wet) and left out in the sun to dry for few weeks and then roasted and ground)
Did you know about the smoked chicken though? I had no clue but now that I do I NEED to try it lol
I love how much Mark embraces other cultures. Him and Ying are setting such a great example for Micah
Maracas Bay is now on my journey list

Can’t beat Trinidadian food because of the unique seasonings and many different menus. We need to play the steel pan music in the background too.🇹🇹
thanks Mark you are really traveling and eating all the famous traditional foods of Trinidad and not just leaning to one particular food group.
He will experience the majority of the popular local cuisine or foods, we all mix together to form our lovely culture and people, we are one people under God, we are Trini 😃❤
Thank you mark! this reminds me of how muc i take for granted in my country. for such a small country of 36 miles we have soo much diversity in food and culture. And theres lots more i hope u continue to discover.
Right?! It’s so easy to feel disillusioned but we are really so blessed!
Trinidad is a lot bigger than 36miles. Approx 5000sq km.
It touches my heart immensely that you've been enjoying my county and all it has to offer. The food is delicious and the ppl are kind and friendly. We're so proud to have have you!!! 🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹
The food on Trinidad and Tobago reflect the variety of people and cultures that have been mixed together on both islands. Caribbean food is rated as one of the best foods in the world because of its seasoning process. All Caribbean islands season their food differently so the taste is unique to each island.

Hi
actually, nothing mark did on his trip is considered touristy, these are all the thing Trinidadians do , regularly !
This is normal for weekends and days off or even during the week nothing touristy about what they are doing.
As a fellow Trinidadian I really like what you're doing exploring and showcasing our local foods and what our country has to offer .🥺

The way Mark says the word "pepper" each time he mentions pepper sauce when in Trinidad. Its like "Pepa" Pig. Love it! The guy puts one spoon of it on the plate. Mark, "just leave the jar on the table please so i can have it with every mouth full".
