The problem with Stef was the arrogant attitude he copped about it. Instead of admitting he made some mistakes, he attacked everyone.
Thats still on the Verge, they really should have reigned in his attitude, and re done the video to properly show his knowledge off.
I think we still see some of that here, i think he's a bit of a cock, not a likeable person at all
Sure, but he would have never acted that way if the video didn’t get out the way it did
@@sirfairplay9153 He’s still young and learning. Sometimes it takes a little longer to get a check on your ego.
I mean the dude was like 19. Can anyone really say they handle situations the best at that age? Here you finally get a shot in the industry you love, and you get thrown into a no win situation, and the community you want so desperately to be a part of just continuously shits on you for 2+ years. Of course that's gonna cause some bitterness and resentment. The arrogance could be his way of dealing with all of the hate, that still continues to this day based off this comment section.
Stefan didn't help by blaming 'Angry Nerds' and not owning mistakes, but The Verge really is the responsible party for letting this even get published as-is
Exactly, They shouldn't have put it out with all the mistakes in it.
Not at all and thats why everyone turned on him so fast. Had he not done that it could have all went an entirely different way. As mentioned, Linus offered.... and the verge basically spit in his face, go back and look at linus' videos on the aftermath. Honestly Steph should reach out to linus, and do the Re-Do. Laugh it off, and people will move on.
Yeah, Totally agree, When People said the video was terrible & he did a terrible job they were not an attack on him as a person but what he did in the video, he should have owned that he did make a lot of mistakes in they way he did the build & things he said,
to Come back & say things like calling those people 'Angry Nerds' & 'people are just Jealous because he has a better PC than them' are personal attacks & I think this is what caused all the personal attack comments towards Stefan
@@crisnmaryfam7344 Yeah & Linus wasn't the only one, G/N Steve offered to help Stefen redo it or find a way to get a better situation too, Yes The Verge reacted wrongly but why hasn't Stefan ever made an effort in return,
He didn't need to talk at all about The Verge video (if there is a Gag order) but say 'I am here with LTT/G/N or wherever as I would like another chance to do my best'
Stefan put on a big show of how this was an insignificant bump in the road, and how he's so totally over it and back on the horse, but any time Timmy stirred the conversation toward the question of whether or not the dude is still in the tech industry, he got super salty and evasive. Also, unless The Verge has him under some crazy legal agreement, he's nuts for shitting on all the tech youtubers who offered him a do-over.
Let's not forget WHY we still talk about this video and why we mocked The Verge this much! They decided to be bullies, block videos which criticized that video in a fair way, without making it personal, even offering constructive criticism and a cooperation. The Verge bullied 'us nerds'. Gamers Nexus tried really hard to reach out to The Verge, a few more did.
Isn't that kind of the point of this video? That The Verge did him wrong. He isn't asking people to apologize to The Verge, if anything he calls then out more. He's asking that we apologize to Stef..
The Verge forgot about the Streisand Effect apparently.
idk for a "pro" that kid is kinda dumb... like i guess it goes to show. it is not what you know, but who you know.. supposed industry guy.. no one has ever herd of him... but of his own bad self made media... like this kid is fake it tell you make it.
@@patrickgronemeyer3375 You're part of the problem.
@@derangel9143 no I'm not the problem I'm a demographic of people who are educated smart and don't necessarily communicate the best. so we are forced to watch from the sidelines as straight idiots who seem to have a silver tongue get a head in life even though time and time again they constantly fail and it's even proven and shown....
The fact that this kid has had all this free publicity and is still a nobody and hasn't done anything on his own until now kind of goes to show he was handed everything in life just how Timmy Joe handed him this interview to make him relevant again... From what I see he's just some rich European kid that thinks he's entitled to be a tech journalist...
While the backlash he got wasn’t deserved by anyone, his attitude comes off as absolute arrogance making it very hard to feel bad for him
Exactly.
@Steps He and the Verge used fringe messages in an attempt to dismiss all criticism. Even now he doesn't feel like he's done anything wrong. He injected himself into an enthusiast space, made a guide that could cost a novice hundreds of dollars if they follow his advice, and called everyone who got mad at him for it racist nerds. I feel no sympathy for this guy.
Got the same feeling. Seems he took over the Verge/Vox attitude. As they have time after time , as a publication, proven they cannot deal with facts that contradict their narrative or factual mistakes. It all has to fit in their world view.
It was all deserved. He's a narcissist and a bully. People keep saying there were racist comments but I have yet to see a single one on any of the videos. If they existed, they were few and far between. He's just playing the victim card and the race card.
@Steps mhmm sure
The problem is that it was a "How to Video" not a "I'm a noob and this is my first build". The Verge should have NEVER posted it as a 'How to' video.
Exactly! People could have followed that video for their first build and destroyed their parts by following the video. In my book that's not cool. Put yourself in the shoes of someone new to building following that verge guide......you screwed all the way through your rad.........welp you possibly just busted your rad.....there is many other examples too..... i just hope no one destroyed their first build by following that guide when it was still up.
@@kotaspremiere2931 Exactly this! if that title of the video was just we're building a PC" NOT a "How to" things would be MUCH different.
its weird to even in this video he states that before that video he had built a few computers already but idk guess not other wise yeah..........
I have been a teacher for a couple years. The original Verge video was a blessing because it was a free lesson plan for the class hour to sit with my computer maintenance students and show them the wrong way to do things, talk about why they were wrong, and show them how it's supposed to be done. Like for example, not bukakeing your CPU with a whole tube of thermal paste when you already have pre-applied paste on the cooler.
bukake lmao
Hahahahah bukakeing you sir made my day
I've built a few PCs. One fear that comes with a build is not applying enough thermal paste or applying it unevenly. Most is fairly non-conductive so I don't see what the problem is with applying a bit more than needed. Within reason of course because it will make a mess. I can't really say anything bad about his choice of tools either. Yeah, nice tools would have been better but it's not a requirement. I have a pretty nice bench multimeter that I like to use, but if a lightbulb is all you need then why not? I think the take away is that building a working computer is fairly simple as long as that person knows what the requirements are and can be careful. It's definitely much more approachable now days. No more DIP switches, stacks of floppies, or command lines.
Ahahaha bukakeing quick muta quote right there

Man this interview is such a swing and a miss, interviewer didn’t ask any hard hitting questions and sat there while Stefan strokes his ego and STILL doesn’t own up to that disaster video
I thought the same. I was hoping he would dive into the little bit of jabbing in the good sense. I still want to know why the tools he brought in before the rush
He stillllll has the wrong attitude, too much smugness, not a likable guy IMO
yeah true its the reason he was hated even more because of him saying he didnt do anything wrong and couldn't own up to it honestly lol poor kid.... shoot he could of saved face by making meme videos on pc stuff and he probally would of been loved for it haha but he dont sound like the type to adapt to such a thing
IT would have been so easy for the kid to turn it all around years ago. He could have totally redeemed himself by now, and been a respected member of the tech community, showing us all that everyone makes mistakes, but we can learn from them and improve ourselves. Instead, he sometimes acts like narcissistic douchebag, and denies he did anything wrong, or when he does he admit he did something wrong, he blames it on someone else.
@@James-qu6ul yeah sounds like the dude has a little bit of an ego complex there and is pretty dam butt hurt. yeah this dude deff lost out on an opportunity to actually advance his career 10 fold i honestly think this video does more harm in a way well kinda
Totally agree with everyone here. He didn't really own up to it at all and reflected all the blame
"I did nothing wrong the computer geeks are grasping at straws"
"The mistakes in the video were because of The Verge and not my fault"
He definitely had an attitude, Stefan talked a lot about "angry nerds". He doesnt deserve apologies
I tend to agree. At the same time the PC community needs to drop it. At this point the people who are still joking about this look more pathetic than anything else. The fact that millions of people still seem to be so invested is a problem. Bad attitude or not, Stefan isn't the one who is still beating a dead horse. Its the handful of low lives in the PC community that is keeping this whole thing going.
@@HBKCommish I mean, it’s a meme lol. The video was pretty bad, so people are gonna joke about it. Memes tend to stick around for a while
@@HBKCommish Not only is it a meme, it's really his response that kept it around. If he hadn't responded in such a poor way, maybe laughed about it a little, people would've forgotten it YEARS ago
@@drklwo39 it was funny for a few months. Its been like two years now. People need to get a life. It's pathetic.

But im sick of people acting like they deserve an apology still 2 years later. Get over it! As a meme, a joke, a complaint, whatever. Its not funny anymore.
The verge definitely did not help him and threw him under the bus. He made his own mistakes but the verge... The company should have set it straight.
He did make mistakes but also received tons of racist abuse.
welp that's usually what most company do. they just wash away & leave employee behind
@@UKgamer87 He did. But was also unapologetic on several streams and dismissed criticism as haters and nerds.
@@MarcoGPUtuber If you're just hearing a constant barrage of angry voices than yeah it's easy to dismiss them as "angry nerds". As a community we should help people not troll and be dicks. I mean the racist comments he received where trump level racist.
I agree, The Verge at the end of the day didnt handle the entire situation properly and essentially just left him pissing in the wind. I think from their point of view, they gave him a video, he screwed it up and made them look bad, but it would have been entirely saved by the Verge owning it and using him as with Linus reaching out and taking a proactive stance and rebuilding and reshooting the video entirely with LTT.
I agree with Timmy, he did gloss over the job aspect - with how famous that video was, it would be a bit hard to go to a serious interview and be taken seriously.
Honestly at this point I think the easiest fix for that whole video was just changing the title to how not to build a PC
but no, they decided to do everything they did and also play the race card due to amount of hate the idiot was getting
Even Dean Takahashi videos are handled better than this
*Cough cough cuphead*
just six letters in the title or descrip would have made him a legend instead: 'SATIRE'

No, Timmyjoe, it really is as bad as I remember.
He's full of it. His attitude stinks and he's never built a PC before, clearly from that video.

Kudos to you for getting the scoop on this Timmy Joe. Stefan came off as very not genuine and bragged about himself constantly in the interview though.
well the issue was, it was all he could say, he indicated very clearly he's under NDA with the Verge regarding the entire situation - I recon in a few years, we'll hear all about it when the NDA expires.
He had to be real vague and general otherwise the verge will happily go legal, hell they DMCA'd Kyle's video because they thought it would be "offensive" to other people (like they found it offensive to them as a company)
@@t94xr well they claimed the video was racist since he did the video as Lyle. But kyle is the race he's making fun of so that was a load of bullshit.

I still think that he is too defensive of his poor performance. The angry nerds angle sort of solidifys it, "I'll probably tweet it if it's good". The fact that he hasn't moved forward sets it in stone.
Yep, exactly 👍
No I know where he is coming from with that comment. People come forward stating that they’re genuine and have good intentions to get the info that they need and produce something quite different then what they stated.
The hate he got was justified not because of how he built the PC, but because of his attitude, ego, and name calling he did after people called him out on his mistakes.
I'd say both. They legitimately could have killed folks with that "tutorial." Electrical fires at the very least are no joking matter. His and Vox's attitude after the fact was just overkill to ensure they deserved the backlash.
@@encycl07pedia- People like you and alot of other people in the comments are the reason I want to start gatekeeping this hobby. his build was horrible but it was extremely exaggerated. "ElEcTrIcAl FiReS" for doing what? putting too much thermal paste and not putting your psu in the correct position? I've seen computer parts go up in flames and that was due to parts being faulty, not for small BS like thermal paste and having a greatwall psu.

@@none-qs3sl I've never witnessed an earthquake. I guess they don't exist. Thanks for helping me get over one of my fears!
That was not an apology. That was him once again trying to gaslight people into thinking that wasn't his fault. "I can understand how people can ***misconstrue that*** and take it in an offensive way." He's lying and saying he wasn't actually trying to be insulting or offensive when he totally was. He's just denying responsibility AGAIN and then offering a fake apology right after.
His Twitter chain post was another non-apology written in 2021 (build video was in 2018) where he puts the blame on virtually everyone else and fails to take responsibility for 99% of the issues. He blames it on having "10 minutes" to film (when the segment itself is longer than 10 minutes) and it being Friday. It was a pitiful, arrogant plea for mercy. If you bothered to read it, you'd know that. But you're an ignoramus.
@@encycl07pedia- Oh I'm Ignorant? BUT HEY, why be a responsible adult and call it out when you can instead make 10 videos on the topic just for some short lived popularity.
And yes, its totally his fault that his script got changed and all the legal actions that happened as a result. Maybe we should harass him for nearly 3 years while forgetting that they took down the video and fixed the article because we are all sadistic fucks with nothing better to do with our lives.

Fantastic take on all this, and awesome of Stef to come on and chat. I myself have one of the most viewed reaction videos to that build, and while I cracked a couple jokes, it was never my intention to drag Stef, specifically, though the mud. Having rewatched my own video today... it was definitely a bit harsh. And while I meant to have most of they language be aimed at The Verge (I never call out Stef by name), I do feature his face once in the video, and use 'he' when citing poor advice in their final edit.
You did hit one thing in this video. It was a perfect storm, and there's only one thing PCMR fanbois love more than gatekeeping, and that's when they have a villain to point and laugh at.
I'm going to follow in your direction on this one... I'm unlisting that video today. The jokes were had. The king is dead. While Vox did hang Stef out to dry, there's no reason that moment should define him or his career in the eyes of both Technology Media, or PC Enthusiasts.

Hey Stefan, cool story. How do you feel about thermal paste and how much you recommend i apply to my cpu?
He's got a wee bit on an ego trip going on and I think it's a defense mechanism. If he's working a normal job there's nothing wrong with that, perhaps a more viable and sustainable option for him.....not everyone on this planet have to or should add to the "social" media and content side of things.
He bragged about himself a good 10 times in that interview. It was sad, and my opinion of him has not changed.
Defense mechanism is the feeling I got from some of his responses as well. Seems like he's trying to act like it didn't bother him and he's okay, while trying to defend himself and get his side of things out. Not exactly the best look for him, but not sure if I can entirely blame him for trying to make himself look good after everything that happened.

The point was to categorize almost all the information about what happened after the video, mainly because a lot of people JUST remember the video ONLY. However, I actually never ended up covering what he's doing now, NOR reach out for an interview, which I probably should have done. I also probably shouldn't have went over the mistakes that people already talked to death about haha. Either way, glad to see someone doing this idea correctly.
hello
Thank you for doing this video and for trying to help Stefan, but I have to say his attitude after the video was made makes forgiving him difficult. If Vox media was the issue there was no reason to insult "tech nerds" who's criticisms were deserved.
If he said "I made a lot of mistakes in that video that I shouldn't have especially for a tutorial. I asked them to redo the video, but they refused. My apologies to the tech community for the quality of this video." That would have gone a long way to helping him recover from The Video, but unfortunately he wasn't prepared for how harsh the internet can be, to be fair not many people are, and he reacted poorly. I would have been no better.
Mistakes were made and I think collaborations, like this one, with several more tech channels would let him recover from The Video.
LTT may have the money to get him to cohost a new build video perhaps lampooning the original video or just a "do-over"
I was ready to crap on your opinion and say he deserved it, but this video has helped me forgive him and hope the tech community can come together to give him the chance at redemption he deserves.
The interesting thing is that whoever gives him the chance for a do over and perhaps redemption will have a goldmine on their hands afterwards due to him being famous now. Alternative he can continue to build up his jackass persona that he currently has due to his reactions online since the original verge video.

Stefan has too much pride and is so high on his horse he's blaming everyone but himself and he'll never see it. He's grasping at every excuse he can come up with to make it seem he was never at the wrong here. Starting with him saying "I was an athlete..." kind of making it sound like "Yeah, I'm not a computer geek, I was a jock who played tennis and worked out, so back off nerds." Why on earth does being an athlete make a difference here. It doesnt. That apology on twitter wasn't even an apology, all he listed were excuses. For someone who states they've build PCs in the past these "silly" choices dont make sense even for being rushed. Especially with the tools required to build a PC, that's just something pulled out of his ass because that's a very hard mistake to pull. "You're going to need an Allen wrench." Wtf. He just wont own up to it and say "My bad, I thought I knew how to build a PC.", but no. He has to talk high and mighty saying he knows many CO's and executives. He's close to multiple manufactures and he's so inside the tech industry he can pretty much work where he pleases. No, Verge didn't throw him a bone, he threw the bone at them. They should be grateful for hiring the youngest writer ever! Christ... and to top it all off "I'll probably tweet it if it's good." Stefan is a piece of work.
"Independent" 🤣 "paved the way" 😭 "I am writing reviews" 🤣🤣🤣. Then this guy tells him, " hope the tech thing works out"😆👍🏽
If he wants to set things straight, he'll make a new build video, uncut. I still think he's full of it.
Being rushed to finish by end of the day, or limited to 15 minute video doesn't excuse any of the errors he made.
The criticism was very fair. I knew much more at that age about building a PC without having a mentor, youtube videos, or even the internet the help me. There's a lot of things I don't know, but I'm smart enough not to attempt making a video teaching others how to do something I don't know shit about.

I mean. The audacity one must have to defend their irresponsible build by saying " it works ... So......". Imagine if someone added diesel to a petrol car and acted like it was no big deal. *Like Michael Scott*
You were so nice to stefan. His tone still sounds like he is still hurting. I picked up a tone of defense and resentment. But I thinks this video is a good step for him. Hopefully this will help him heal and move on. Good job TJ.
A breath of fresh air to see someone treating him as an imperfect human rather than an object to hate and despise.
When they asked him to build the computer he should have told them I don't know how.
He literally says in the interview that building the pc was his idea lol
He asked the Verge, that's the funny part. He was so delusional to think he was an expert.
No, we were not.
Gonna go ahead and edit this. After finishing the video and hearing what he had to say during the interview I think we have been to hard on him. It sounds like The Verge and Vox tied his hands on the video from start to finish. They doomed it to failure and left him take the abuse. We have not been hard enough on The Verge and Vox media.
Verge and Vox handled thing poorly and made it worse. ANd perhaps he took more abuse than he should have, but a large part of that abuse was due to him not owning up to his own mistakes, constantly making excuses, verbally attacking those who called him out, and blaming everything on other people.
'It was really unfair'
Hmm.. so the guide was only bad because he was rushed? But he said the concept was his idea... and he brought a swiss army knife as a screwdriver?
Sounds more like he was a loner (homeschool and tennis) and thought he knew about building PCs, but actually he didnt...
That whole age defense is irrelevant. There are kids under 10 that know more about building PCs than he did in that video.
There are multiple videos of content creators getting their wives to build PCs so we can laugh at their mistakes, but they dont claim they know what they are doing. We should be allowed to laugh at this guy, more so because he seems to genuinely think he knew what he was doing. Even in the interviews and comments he has made since indicate he is delusional, like the comment about well it worked didnt it...
He doesnt deserve a break until he actually admits what he did wrong and I doubt that will ever occur
If the Verge had asked him to do this and he screwed up I would be with you giving him a break. But it was his idea...
Yeah, I definitely don't agree with his arrogance.
"I'll retweet your video, if it's good enough." The guy is a pompous jerk.
This is basically what I was referring to in my reply to the video itself. It seems like it isn't good enough for you that he was derided once, it seems like people feel the need to deride him even more for his arrogance. There is NO DOUBT he makes the situation worse with arrogance, and pushing back with his own attitude, but things don't get better by exchanging insults constantly back and forth either. It has been 2 yrs since that video...at least allow the guy to try to do better and move on from an obvious mistake without simply adding more fuel to the derision fire. If he is arrogant, has an attitude, and makes another POOR video in the future he will definitely get an ear full about how bad it is, and will get even MORE stronger insults for not learning his lesson the first time. Let it go.
@@brianmatthews1736 Let is go? It was not us that made this video. If people want to let it go, stop making videos about it. Especially ones that try to defend him. Ever seen a court sentencing? If the defendant shows no remorse the punishment gets increased. Why dont courts let it go? Because people that do things wrong and dont admit it was wrong deserve worse punishments. That is not my opinion, that is the opinion of society.
@@Ironbuket Are you seriously equating a poorly made video with an example of a crime? Maybe that is what bothers me the most. People seem to elevate his actions to be resembling some kind of crime...he made a crappy video, then got defensive and whiney about it when he got called out...not a huge crime...it is a mistake...this is why the guy made the video saying to cut him some slack...he didn't resubmit the original video, he didn't make the video about what happened to him, he didn't make the video of the guy who told him he was sorry for him. I will leave this subject alone, and not comment on it further...but this response to me only goes to illustrate my point...
Normally a 20 year old that made a mistake does not deserve this. But his attitude was an issue. With his "apology" was more of a "can you please leave me alone" rather than being sorry
I don’t think he deserves this much hate and backlash for making a couple mistakes, but he’s not really helping his case by being this arrogant and making all of these excuses.
Really nice job Timmy Joe! I normally watch your videos to see you doing silly stuff, but I loved that you were serious about this investigation and gave him a chance to tell some of his story!
I am so glad you made this, I was wondering the same thing!!!!
13:39 "It's not that bad."
Yes. Yes it actually is that bad. No, it was not well researched. There was no redeeming quality about that video. That's why it got roasted so hard.
Videos like this restore a little bit of my faith in people in general. Well done Joe cheers
He was late to the milk party so he is trying to get some milk money with this vid. Stefan deserves all the hate the arrogant asshole he is.
After watching his video and the critiques on his video I have come to the conclusion that's Stefan was...... ... Bull$hitting his way through the video. He was making up things as it was going along trying to sound like he knew what he was talking about. He was probably pressured to make the video but he was incompetent and did not want to have to admit it to his superiors.
13:03 if he ever did build PC in the past, this would've never happened. He's full of it. He might have ruined some kids PC, thinking this guy is legit
Sorry, TJ. Literally the only thing I agree with you on so far is the fact the he got dog-piled harder than he should have, but I don't think that would've happened had the verge not doubled and tripled down so they could keep up that sweet sweet Capitol One sponsored video.
It's not like nothing good came out of it. That's literally where I learned not to put two ram sticks right next to each other. I never knew that was an issue until it was pointed out because of that awful verge video.
And yes, it's as bad as I remember. I watched it again not too long ago when it got recommended again. But then again, I never thought ALL the criticism was justified...like the constant ragging on him for saying "tweezers" instead of zip ties. Like he just mixed his words up, who the hell cares? He had the thing he meant to say.
The real tragedy to me is hearing his back story. He sounds like he had a ton of potential to be like a golden child of the tech community. He got into it all when he was still pretty young. That's why it sucks so much that he's got THAT coupled with this straight-faced personality that also refuses to admit any fault. He's made excuse after excuse as to what happened in the filming process, rather than just admit he made some mistakes.
The fun thing is that on older sockets (sort of irrelevant now) Sometimes the memory was set up in that config. So on AMD Athlon 64 setups back in the day, sometimes it would be dual channel both sticks right next to each other! Even more infuriating considering sometimes they still had the alternating colors lol! Intel didn't do it this way, maybe with RAMBUS memory?
@@classic_jam I used to have an awesome Athlon 64 rig that I upgraded the RAM on at one point. I googled what to do to make sure I knew. Obviously, he didn’t do anything like that.
Totally agree with you. The Verge covered their asses and didn’t back up Stefan at all. His pompous attitude still says a lot. A lot of the statements and phrases he uses in this interview are VERY telling!
Great video, love the new studio 👍🏽
I agree, kudos to you Timmy for stepping up and being the bigger person. Human kindness is still a thing and it’s beautiful what you did.
appreciate the different perspective Timmy and after watching the video I think I changed my mind on the whole situation this was a good video keep up the good work.
I think the issue I had the most was, The Verge allowed such a misleading guide to be published. Which could of actually caused a new PC builder to damage parts. Stef was unfortunately to poor bastard lumped with the job of presenting this dumpster fire.
Actually the job was his idea. HE came to them with the idea.
@@James-qu6ul I didn’t realise that was the case. If it’s true, he deserves all that comes his way.
Just because you've done something for a long time or before, doesn't mean your doing it right.
He thought he was gone
be the next MKBHD 😭😭
I feel like nearly ever situation could use a bit more of the "this is another human being" perspective. Thanks for taking this angle and here's to new beginnings for him hopefully!!
Good Video, Stefan and Timmy Joe. Thank You.
It's worse than I remember.
20 yrs old is not a child. He stuffed up majorly. This is not grade school,
My biggest gripe with his original build wasn't even the "tweezers". It was the use of a FUCKING swiss army knife.
Does not matter if it works it works it's like why some people eat with their fingers rather then a spoon & a fork it don't matter in the old age the hunters never used spoons or fork rather then their fingers , people now days are just messed up people. It evolution plus people are becoming lazy relying on technology , we all different why can't we all just help each other and learn from it
He comes off as arrogant in the latter half of the interview. Nice gesture though Timmy!
That video still cracks me up! Dude never fully owned his mistakes and he let a bunch of nerds get into his head.
I still watch that video every now and then religiously
He should have owned his mistakes. Freedom of speech and criticism is not harassment. They were simply pointing out the mistakes he made in his video that could cause people to destroy their computers, by following his methods of computer building.
Wow, he puts a timebomb in a pc tutorial and gets pidgeons for thermal paste and his excuse for being smug and calling many people "angry nerds" is that he was rushed? Tech community doesn't owe him an apology for giving misinformation, he has to apologize for his wrong advice and stubbornness. What a horrible video..
Timmy: It's not as bad as you remember
Me: Na it was worse
I had to sub to your channel after this bro. Your awesome man, you could of did like most and troll him, then move on, but instead you took time and researched the situation and by doing so you helped someone that you didnt even know. Im glad i seen this video, it inspired me man, hope to see more of your stuff, we need of this in the youtube community
wholesome of u mate
i really thought the same and am glad someone else feels and thought the same way
thnx
How are all your angry nerds doin?
A build redemption video would be good for him. If he proves he learned from his mistakes, it might silence some of the people still memeing on him. Doesn't have to be a guide, just a casual video of him building a PC.
I feel bad for the computer's family
R.i.p.
He seems like a nice enough guy, but he still doesn't seem to take FULL responsibility for his own mistakes. At one point in his tweets, he said he made mistakes he never made before. (and maybe that's true for some of them) I find that hard to believe though for all of them. Like, he previously knew how to apply thermal paste, and then while being videoed, he completely forgot? I understand that he was probably rushed which I'm sure made things even worse, and Verge handled the whole thing horrendously. But he should just own his mistakes a little more, and even make fun of it a little, and post a new video showing how much he has improved and that now he knows how to do it all correctly. All he would get is praise.
How have I never seen this before?
5:22 An Allen key?
I built my first PC in 1997, since then I’ve literally built thousands of systems and cannot imagine a scenario where I’d need an Allen key 🤷🏻♂️
The stoppers on Ek waterblocks require the use of a supplied Allen key to tighten, or unscrew them.
@@Safetytrousers Anything else require an Allen key or is that it? I don’t tend to use or recommend components that ultimately make my experience more inconvenient.
@@jonchapman6821 I am not an Allen key use expert. I just know the EK GPU blocks need one.
I was REALLY bothered by him saying he was "under contract" not to talk about it by his former employer. That's a big red flag that the company not only knows that it failed him but, it was never the kid's fault and slapped a gag order on him.
Home schooled, explains everything he can’t handle criticism. Kids were mean in school and that shit prepares you for how real life is.
Hard to have sympathy when he acted the way he did afterward. Not hard to just man up and say 'I didn't know what I was doing. I'm still learning.'
See the one with Linus!
Stefan did call us "racist nerds" & doubles down because he received a dump truck of negative criticism and opposing opinions. So...
If you've never made a stupid remark on the internet that you later regret you are a better person than pretty much anyone that has ever posted. People say things in the heat of the moment they don't really mean in respect to everyone and can be taken out of context but once it's posted it's there forever.
He did get racist comments posted about him, so calling those that posted those "racist nerds" I feel is highly justified. He is not saying everyone was a racist nerd, just those that did act like that.
@@Vyp3Rau I didn't know you were Stefan's psyche. How can you know otherwise 100%? That or you're projecting.
@@mixit2413 doesn't matter. He doubled down. Point being, after receiving negative feedback Stefan dismissed and went to character attacks of his critics.
and yet he still sounds quite arrogant and ignorant at the same time
Are you kidding me?
That video is a prime example of so many things wrong with people today.
Everyone involved needed that wake up call and hopefully no one got hurt due to gross incompetence
the sad thing isnt even how he called ppl "angry nerds", the sad thing is how the guy (especially on shitter) clearly showed he thinks ppl just troll him, he made no mistake his video was absolutely perfect and he has no idea what ppl are talking about. and he said that so many times that i actually believe that he thinks he is getting trolled and did nothing wrong.
Did the same search nothing came up but a video of him calling the pc community nerds
It was when he was playing a Xbox game with someone it was widely available, but recently he got it removed, unlucky for him I have it downloaded on my pc 🤣
his beginning reminds me a little of mkbhd but things turned out different for him and had a diff personality.
The 2x main issues that exacerbated this situation more was 'The Verge' taking unnecessary DMCA action against other reaction videos. And Stefan... His attitude comes off as entitled and pompous, especially when he didn't initially acknowledge that he was factually incorrect and insulted (constructive) criticism as "angry nerds" and "racists".
It is obvious that he maybe had built one or two computers before and didn't know nearly enough to make a tutorial type video. The fact that he still is unable to admit that shows that he hasn't grown up yet.
You know he could still redeem himself to all of his haters. He could take to UA-cam with a new pc build and do it right this time and I’m sure people will move on.
Based on his attitude I doubt it.
I disagree with your opening statement that he’s just trying to do his job. He not only refused to do even the most basic of research, but he ignored the manuals and when confronted with rightfully made criticism of his frankly irresponsible video he insulted everyone for it.
Dude should’ve bowed out of making the video when he realised he didn’t know what he was doing, or he should have taken the time to research how to build a pc. I’m not terribly familiar with building a pc, but by just doing 30 minutes of research you can learn how to do most things properly, I guarantee that from personal experience.
I built my first PC when I was 16 and the first thing I did BEFORE unpacking the parts was spend some time googling how to do it. I didn't have the luxury of working for a huge website like The Verge and was basically on my own. Built a PC that still works to this day almost a decade later. For someone who likes to call himself a 'tech journalist', he's the sort of person who makes me angry about incompetent people 'stumbling' into jobs somehow. How did he get that job, seriously? He's built PCs before? Really? I don't buy that, no way. If he'd built a PC before filming that video, he'd have avoided most of the mistakes he did.
If that were the whole story, he'd be worthy of pity and a second chance, but his attitude after the whole thing, calling well-known tech UA-camrs "angry nerds" sort of tells me all I need to know about his character. His attitude screams of superiority complex and ultimately comes off as an arrogant douche who likes to make himself look way bigger and smarter than he really is. The Verge is also to blame since someone higher up than this child should've spotted the errors. There's tons of video guides available on UA-cam and I'm sure there are step-by-step 5-10min guides available online. Nobody stopped him from learning before getting to work, but he probably felt he's too smart for that....
It’s June 2021 and people are still trashing him for his god awful PC build😂
Well Timmy Joe- I appreciate the message- but... I am not sure Stefan owns this as much as he should. Hope you are right and he is a good guy- but he stills comes off as elitist and snobby really.
Home schooled and tennis at a young age, definitely snobby with parents who had money. Seems to lack social skills too probably from being home schooled and not growing up around other children
14:40 dude's still at it huh
no no no, the tech community does NOT owe Stef any apology
He could have made a follow up video with a correct build or made a meme video taking all the criticism and turning them into jokes, but he did neither. He instead acted like a smartass thinking that people would forget about it.
"he didn't deserve" All he had to do was apologize when it happened, and make a good video.
Instead we have you making an "Update" video for some views. The boat is already sailed... Just move on, you are making a fool of yourself underplaying everything..
No , he doesn't. You don't call the people criticizing you names because they hurt your ego and then expect to be forgiven when your soulless company throws you under the bus. Very bad take
Yep, exactly 👍
Content creation (for an employer or as somebody needing to make a living off their own channel) seems like it can be quite the daily grind- needing new videos every day or so to push view counts. Stephan seems like a nice guy, seems intelligent, is not bad looking, and has a decent speaking voice. I can totally see why he was hired. But I suspect they really rode their creators to give regular content. That gives very little time for research and editing, and definitely no time to reshoot when they find errors. Well, it gives no time for reshoots due to errors when you care more about getting the videos out than have correct informative content. And Vox was not the only internet media group doing that.
A serious multi-topic question:
-Can you can be a _____ enthusiast because you love the finished product without having to know all the minutia of how said product is created/works?
I've seen the idea that you need to know everything to be a real enthusiast in the tech community.. in the car culture too. Music too. Food... it's almost like when some people become very knowledgeable on a subject because they are such an "enthusiast", they want to ridicule anybody that willingly knows less than them... because that brings more people into the culture/hobby you so love? How does that make any sense?
Thanks for the Video, Timmy. I can tell you spent some time making this, and you did it with mature kindness and not OMGWTFBBQ clickbait outrage culture crap (very unusual in the YT tech/game review space today). Hopefully you get a good view count on this one (YT actually pushes it).
Not sure why Timmy is BABYING him. " I saw the video, was not that bad ". Mate, are you okay? This guy didnt put a SINGLE THING in correct. RAM was fucked, PSU was fucked, AIO was a disaster. Like bro, just stop. It was a circus from the beginning.
