    I’ve used only one can of the proper waterfall foam. Had to get it from the Uk. But I used about 4 cans if the white ordinary stuff. I got the gun for it.
    But it grows so big I had a few panic attacks to push it back in the crevices before it sets. But it works ok. Not as dense or discreet as the black stuff. But I also used some JetCem quick set cement in places, to secure certain rocks so the grandkids can walk up it safely.

    Interesting product that foam. always thought people just put stones together on top of each other, I wonder when you deconstruct the pond in future is it difficult to clean off?

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  4 роки тому +5

      No it’s easy to remove, if it’s done right the foam sticks to the rock, so the foam bend to be scraped of, you can buy a few different drill bits with paddles like a wheel of sand paper. So much easier than mortar.

      @@ThePondAdvisor Fair enough, I thought it was a long shot! Are you suggesting I use some sort of fibre glass sealant instead?
      Thanks for the video too, I've watched quite a few of yours and they've helped me make decisions on how to put my nature pond together. Doesn't look as professional as yours but it's doing well so far. I've got a resident frog who likes it, but inadvertently transferred some goldfish eggs over from my fish pond, so had to spend yesterday getting the now grown baby goldfish out and putting them in the fish pond!
      That's why I want to expand my fish pond, to give the baby fish some more space to enjoy when they're grown up! :)

      Tom Southworth love it, if your trying to join two preformed fibreglass ponds, use the bulkhead or tank connectors

    • @DukeRaven
      @DukeRaven 4 роки тому +2

      @@ThePondAdvisor Well, I'm not sure how I'm going to approach it yet, just gathering information. I dug the nature pond and put all the shelves in for it myself etc.
      The fish pond though is a preformed fibreglass one, and it would be a lot of work to take it out and replace it with a lined one, so I'm looking for an easy way of expanding it. I could dig a new lined pond and connect that up to the fibreglass one, which I may have to do because of space limitations (not sure I can find a fibreglass one to fit the space I have). I'd still have to use a bulkhead/tank connectors though I'm guessing.

    Thank you so much for being very precise with your explanation. I have bought several brands of PU Pond Foams - the workers most likely did not shake the cans enough. Our waterfall is leaking everywhere. It's a mess. The PU Foam turned into a sponge-like material - it holds water - and yes, my waterfall is leaking. They then turned to industrial foam which I am not happy with at all. So basically you are saying that these Pond Foams will never turn hard and are NOT water-tight - and do they all turn into a sponge-like substance which holds water? So - the only thing that will prevent water from leaking is the rubber underlay?

    Great video, very helpful. Advice please. We bought quite a powerful pond pump because to make sure it could pump the water to the top of the waterfall but are finding that the flow rate down the waterfall is too fast and splashing outside the membrane so potentially losing water. The pump was quite expensive and does not have a regulator so is there a solution rather than changing the pump?

      Yes with the right conditions for the moss, willow moss will grow if you have enough water. Other moss will not grow all year, just like a daffodil, willow moss is evergreen so will stay green with the right amount of water. Some misses will green up in the winter the flowering season, even if the moss dies back it still looks ok. The key is the right plant in the right place.

    Hi! I was using aquascape DIY waterfall foam on some wet rocks and about 5-10 minutes after applying the foam it started to rain. That’s ok right? These conditions won’t interfere with the foams drying process right? I can run the waterfall a few hours after applying the foam right? Thanks!

      @@davidlu7245 it will be all set, if the foam is wet and you get heavy rain the foam might misshapen due to the force of the water coming down, just like if you turn the waterfall or stream on to early, the foam will wash away, if the foam had cured before it started rain then your ok. You just can’t foam in heavy rain as it will come out and the rain will wash it away.

      We install steppers and large rocks up to around 5 tons without mortar. Slabs around a pool (traditional fish pools) need mortar 100% as they don’t have anything to stop them falling in and being hazardous.

    Do you think this product is safe to use on wells, we need install a steel cage at 80mts deep to handle a mild colapse and erosion, there is a 10 to 20 cm organic gap around the cage,, its usually enough to use the steal mesh, cage but in my mind, its would work, amazing if foam, with it dry, and how long with it last.

    I have a tear abot 24" long 1-2" wide. We have used a patch that lasts about a year. Could I possibly use the foam ang "glue" stones over it to seal the crack? Plain clay underneath. The edpm patches don't seem to stick when it gets gold or stays under water. Thanks

      Waterfall Foam will not always seal a hole, (if it does i would question for how long) best to use EPDM cover tape. If you in the UK we stock a nice wide 9" tape as well at the 6" version that will last longer than the liner.

    Is it risky to remove rocks that are foamed onto the liner? Can it tear the liner, or can it be done carefully? I want to make adjustments to my waterfall pond by moving some of the rocks to create a better cascade. Sorry if this was addressed in the video.

      Yes you can remove the foam and rocks. Protect the liner with a overlay. Then worst case just pull the overlay up as well.

    Love your videos. By far the best I have seen. What are the disadvantages of using mortar when compared to foam?

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  3 роки тому +2

      Foam is not a replacement for mortar! You are limiting yourself for future changes (you can’t make changes that easy, sometimes with mortar you have to start again as you damage the liner on the rip out, mortar looks un natural out of the gate, mortar is heavy so you end up moving lots more weight in materials, you need experience mixing is an art form, foam is consistent or should be buy cheap buy twice, mortar mixes lime leaching out new motor burns moss, mortar takes a hundred times longer to go off, you can build a waterfall with foam in a couple of hours (you can’t run a waterfall with mortar for at least 24 hours),

    No matter how much of this stuff I use I still have a leak under a guide stone on top of my spillover rock. How can I fix this problem? And how can I get the water to fall over the edge smooth instead of folding under and running under the rock?

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  Рік тому +3

      The sealing of the stone, find out we’re the water is coming from. Lots of people look at the area where the water is coming out instead of where is the water entering.
      Lots of tricks, seal and folds in the liner, use bib liners, spray foam on to (only dry rubber liner) let it go off a little then gently place the spill stone on to it. Form a beam line the put the stone on to it.
      The flow of the water is dictated by the shape of the stone. Clean crisp edges are needed for curtain or sheet falls. If the edge is rounded then use a different stone or cut into the stone you like.

    Two days after using my hands with pond foam I am still struggling to get it off. Maybe I was unlucky/stupid but it’s horrible stuff to deal with manually or with gloves as it is so cloying and sticky (unsurprisingly). I would strongly recommend that it is very unsafe to just use your hands to handle or manipulate this stuff. Follow the H&S guidance on the can as I did what the pond advisor did and it turned out very badly for me.

    I was liking the videos but when I seen you can only buy what he recommends out of other brands of expanding foam from his website, he’s talking nonsense, and the applicator gun is such a rip off.. you can buy one of these for £10, I wouldn’t waste your time buying from him

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for your feedback, not all applicators are the same. This goes for the same as the foam. We don’t recommend the cheaper throw away guns if you want quality to last ten years then your in the right place. You can find cheaper guns and foam I never said you can’t. It sounds like the cheaper grade is best for you, that’s great. It’s not one size fits all.
