A really informative video. Looks like another cracking pond you’ve made again too. I’m glad your ‘barnet’ didn’t get burnt in the glorious sun either! Good job Mark
Hi Charlotte. Mark built this pond for my wife and I. We are so happy with what he has created for us. I just find myself staring at it all the time. We love it.
Mark. I didn't appreciate how much work and effort you have put into our - quite simply a masterpiece and a work of art of a pond. When I went off to work and came back and caught up with you later in the evening I didn't appreciate how much hard work you had put into our pond during the day. These past few videos have shown me how much of a craftsman you are. Lisa and I cannot thank you enough. You know our story, Mark. It will change the way we think and enjoy our spare time. It is just perfect. Thank you so much. I must just add that the amount of bird food I now have to put out has increased threefold. Nature has come back to our back garden.
It works both ways of course; your interest in bringing nature back into your garden and paying for it gives Mark and his team the chance to make a career out of their passion. The tricky part is finding the right people.
Well done. I understood the pump and filtration fitting for the first time after watching loads of videos. Thanks. I intend to build a pond after my kitchen extension.

@@ThePondAdvisor that's great will look forward to seeing it learning loads could u do a video on putting on bio fulls like how u attach the liner will need to know right way to do that for my next pond build in couple years
Thank you, Mark, for making this video and your others. It's so helpful to those of us who are too far away to benefit from your expertise any other way. I'm in Oregon, USA. The 'pond expert' I spoke with here advised a skimmer and really didn't have any helpful suggestions for protecting wildlife. The tadpoles and other creatures I hope to support will be so much safer with an intake bay and I feel much more confident that I can build one now.
Glad it was helpful! Skimmers do have there place in wildlife ponds you can simply take the door of the skimmer and then anything swimming can get out easily like an intake bay. Intake bays are a little bit more work to maintain than a skimmer but can be any size you like
Already got a pond with 2 waterfalls, to much going on wildlife wise to disturb that so watched your videos and decided to build another small pond with waterfall, luck has it one of our neighbours was skipping a lot of lovely golden rocks so I wheel narrowed those round home , ordered all what I need online and while waiting I will predict the area it’s where a coal bunker was so concrete slab has to be kangoed out , but plenty of time to do it while on this horrible Covid 19 lockdown, your installations are great you have inspired me thanks
Hey, thanks for this video. I like the rocks and how the intake bay works. The additional underlayment on top of the liner as well is a really good idea. Thanks.
Very informative. I have also started watching the aquascape videos on UA-cam... those guys produce ponds that are huge but still look natural like yours do .
Thank you very much! I love the longer, more in-depth how-to format! Very helpful! I'm going to do one on my new pond, but rather than using a pump vault, I'm going to put the pump in the aqua Block. I've bookmarked some of your other videos where you've done this, and will try to figure it out. I'm going to draw water up to a bog. A fellow ponder has said wetland filtration "likes" a slower flow of water anyway, so I think I'll be ok with a smaller pump that won't collapse the aqua block when placed inside it.
One thing to watch for is smaller pumps can struggle to draw detritus across the pond into the intake bay. What I do is use remote controlled pumps so I can get the draw / current just right
Hi Mark, Really enjoying your videos. I am hoping to design and build a small wildlife pond and I'm learning so much from you. Love waterfalls, rocks and the natural look.

Hi Mark fantastic work and brilliant video. It’s seems to be the perfect solution for ponds in a wooded area. What size pond (biggest size)would this system work ?
we build intake bays on lakes the bigger the body of water the bigger the flow the bigger the intake bay. the size can be tailored to fit. this set up will cope with about 20000 liters per hour at a push so a pond 4 times the size of this 3m by 1.8m
Hi Mark, I've really lost count of the times I've watched this and your other videos trying to get my old head around how you make an intake bay. How big is that pump for that pond and waterfall? Thanks again for your fascinating videos.
Such a great help very useful and very thorough with your explanation. The finished product looks so natural. I'm really starting to lean towards an intake bay rather than a skimmer for my pond rebuild. What would be your preference out of the two?
it really depends on a few things, I prefer the right tool for the right job, skimmer is really for fish ponds and easier to keep clean, intake bays look better and a little kinder towards the aquatic wildlife (not limited in size). If I could pick only one I would have to pick the skimmer (but even these are not all created equal) as this is the best for most people.
The pond will overflow or drain away if filled to high, just like a patio. When building the ponds with intake bays the pond will drain away at the lowest point (around the edging) you can install a fixed over flow in the pump vault but it’s unnecessary most of the time. Due to evaporation the ponds normally don’t overflow that much as the rain tops them back up like a patio or soil will take on water if they were dry.
But then surely by using a pump vault and associated gravel to slow the flow into the powerful pump there will be a build up of sediment which will slowly fill all the gaps in the gravel and eventually reduce flow and warrant lots of gravel cleaning or dislodging?
Yes every now and then the intake bay will need maintenance, but by adding the bacteria in Multi Aqua (they break the organic waste down). As there are not fish in the pond it’s only leaves that will generate sludge, so yes it’s a bit of work/attention to keep on top of the leaves, but the intake helps suck the leaves into one area. Not having any pumps or filter would be more work in the long run. The intake bays very rarely get blocked up unless blanket weed starts collecting waste and then this blocks up!
wearing gloves while foaming has got to be one of the most important lessons i learned the hard way in water feature installations. that stuff stays on your hands for like 2 weeks

Phil Ware I was thinking of using a large diameter pipe to do down to the bottom of my wetland which will enable me to add/ remove a pump. Construction happening in my neighbourhood and the owner/ builder said I can have a few feet of pipe for cheap
I select rock from all over, this stone is from Oxfordshire but they stop lifting it 10 years ago so it’s rare to find it! I have a network of farmers that keep the rock to one side for me each year as they find it!
Hi Mark. I hoping to replace my existing ugly pond with a wildlife pond. I'm binge watching your videos to learn what to do (but there are many I haven't watched yet). Why in this case did you use an intake bay rather than a skimmer?
Great question, why did I not address that, in the video! thank you, its mainly wildlife find it hard to avoid the suction of a 6" skimmer, fish educate themselves to stay away from the weir door. 6.0 Skimmers are much easier to keep clean, some clients have them installed to only turn on in the autumn, when the leaves start falling and most of the wildlife as moved away.
@@ThePondAdvisor I'm grateful for your response and very much admire your creations. I'm not in your area, but do you offer remote consultancy / advice services?
Great content, I am seriously pondering a landscaped carp, wildlife pond with waterfalls, so have been taking notes from your various videos:-) A quick question: I have a source of Portland stone for my rocks, edgings and falls, this is limestone. I am a little concerned that it will impact the alkalinity of the pond, will it become an issue?
Diogenese Garden is the limestone weathered? If so you will be fine, I personally have not used Portland stone that much for the same reason. I know other builders use it no problem. Do you have soft water?
Thanks Mark, this is going to be a bit of a trial run for me as I would like to see if pond features will be a viable evolution of my gardening business. Although I have a lot of research to do also, I’m finding the videos very helpful.
Hey Mark, nice video. When you use an intake bay, do you also use a filter/skimmer in the pond? It seems like an Intake Bay would be more fish friendly.

Hi Mark, where do you buy your rocks? Also where is best to buy waterfall foam?
I select rock from all over, this stone is from Oxfordshire but they stop lifting it 10 years ago so it’s rare to find it! I have a network of farmers that keep the rock to one side for me each year as they find it!
I get my waterfall foam online
awesome,, Thanks!

Yes I do offer consultations, it’s best to email me mark@anypond.com
Great content, I am seriously pondering a landscaped carp, wildlife pond with waterfalls, so have been taking notes from your various videos:-)
A quick question: I have a source of Portland stone for my rocks, edgings and falls, this is limestone. I am a little concerned that it will impact the alkalinity of the pond, will it become an issue?
Diogenese Garden is the limestone weathered? If so you will be fine, I personally have not used Portland stone that much for the same reason. I know other builders use it no problem. Do you have soft water?
The water is hard, but the stone is weathered.

Thanks Mark, this is going to be a bit of a trial run for me as I would like to see if pond features will be a viable evolution of my gardening business. Although I have a lot of research to do also, I’m finding the videos very helpful.

Hi Mark, how do you determine the size of the intake bay?
depends on the size of the pump, the amount of waste around the pond
Hey Mark, nice video. When you use an intake bay, do you also use a filter/skimmer in the pond? It seems like an Intake Bay would be more fish friendly.
intake is more work, more natural and more surface area, yes we still build the filtration waterfall filters or wetland filtration
Also. At 6:13 there is someone trapped in the aquablock who’s banging and trying to get out 😂
lol
What size pump would u use for a pond that size
Around 7000 litres per hour just under 2000 gals
