The idea was that the default was 3D, thanks to the weakened 'girl' (remember she starts off 99% converted). Thus the '2D' was actually a hybrid style. She couldn't fully make it 2D until she recovered at the end. Also note that the 'boy' was stronger the closer it got to 2D.
Meanwhile: Loved it and, yes, the idea of this being playable would pwn, though probably only in our minds.
Impossible!! It's simply not possible to create something this cool.

@Raxer21 I definitely wouldn't say that 2D is a better medium, likewise I wouldn't say that 3D is a better medium. We dont have enough experience with 3D yet to make such calls, and either way, one or the other is better for particular things. Neither is best 'for everything' & neither ever will be.
Also 3D will not run out of 'oomph', its the logical progression, like colour is successor to B&W. It doesnt mean that 2D will go completely however, but it will move aside for newer technology.
Interesting short, I love the retro stuff, it definitely still has its place, but at the same time change needs to happen and these industrys must develop into the future. We cannot stay in the past forever and obviously things are going to evolve as technology allows us to do such things as 3D.
As for the short tho, the character design was cool, but could have been better. The overall composition was difficult though, especially the bits where it went to sidescrolling 2D, hard to follow.
I don't quite understand the misrepresentation of the whole 8 bit vs x bit deal. Sure, people associate the numbers with a certain level of "quality", but that's really not all there is to it. Hell, the random choice of sound effects just goes to prove that you don't even understand the differences you believe you're aware of.
Just more unnecessary "retro" fanwankery.
Oh well. That's all I have to say, since I don't give a damn about the movie itself. It looks ugly as sin.

I think he is in his underwear because he represents a gamer. A gamer could be anyone at anytime and, assuming you are at home, you don't need pants to play a game. This pants-less guy featured here could literally just be some guy playing the game on a lazy Saturday morning or something.
@voxar Try playing Gunstar Heroes. There's a similar stage, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was what the video was referencing at that point.

@4RT1LL3RY i disagree. a true gamer is a person who respects all the formats and games. plays them on a daily basis and can tell you almost everything about it. they walk a line that divides them from being obsessed to understanding their limits. and if youve played a video game your a gamer. if you play every now and then your a casual gamer. then you got your hard cores that look for story and character dev. a true gamer has both these qualities. its all about respect and the thrill
@ghom1e There is no such thing as a true gamer, enjoying gaming doesn't make you a gamer. Gaming as a culture has always been foreign to people and now that others have interest in it we are dividing ourself as a group. I say enjoy the games you enjoy, heck whatever you enjoy. But don't try and separate yourself from others due to what you enjoy. I want to see the culture of gaming expand, just like it has for other media; but for it to happen we need to accept all the different people who play
amazing video. i understand why they made 3d the villian in this but its really not a bad idea. my dad has made and entire arcade in our basement with every system weve owned. atari, colecovision, genesis, and so on. and when we heard ps3 had 3d capabilities we had to get a 3d tv. and as a true gamer. its amazing. to see a game in 3d is like being there. its pretty much in between virtual reality and standard gaming. everyone should try it but again amazing vid and long live the classics

Nintendo is popular for its cheap pricing and cheap development costs do you honestly believe the average console player is aware of the quality of games a console has?
Case in point nintendo WII has the weakest lineup of all the consoles this gen. Outside of the occasional first party game that always go with massive advertisements the Wii's library is pathethic Quality games like sin and punishment are ever so rare.

Its really cool. I just dont like how they are basically saying 3D gaming is bad. I like them both, but this almost comes off as a nostalgic fanboy point of view kinda. imo. Where can I get that fast music that was towards the end?
Someone needs to make a horror film with this type of animation. It would be perfect for Halloween! Would probably open up a lot because this is pretty much simulating different worlds in which one can completely immerse themselves in.

The video itself is fantastic, but the message is naive and misguided. So modern graphics are bad and we should all immediately downgrade to 8-bit? It doesn't help that the 3-D animated sections of the movie were the best parts.
They guy who does the voice over for..I think I read his name to be Tanio?...Or as we see him The guy in the white suit with a FREAKING TOMMY GUN.
His voice reminds me of a few char's from the game Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath.

@ALEZTHEGREAT I think it's simply an animation. Mind you, I think there's a lot of people around who'd love to see something like this made into a well thought out game for the simple awesome factor.
So many different sound effects used from old school games in the 2D parts. I believe i recognized the spring from sonic, the sound of mario getting coins to the crash of the plane in river raid.
So who MODELLED and ANIMATED it?

@dragonmoony It's not that 3D games are evil. What is evil is the gradual decline of intelligent/fun gameplay, and the increased emphasis on cutting-edge graphics.

Very rarely do I come across genuine works of wonderful artistic expression, but this video was undeniably outstanding.

Excellent, animations très bien faites et le passage 3D/2D est très sympa
