- Hello and welcome to Crater Lake Episode: 1. This is a Cities: Skylines Let's Play series where I am using inspiration from around the United States to help shape design choices and road layouts. Not all of it is inspired, but I try to bring neat and fun ideas that I have stumbled across and incorporate them somehow into the city. If you would like to join us, subscribe now and watch this beautiful city unfold.
In this episode, we start a new city! Yay, the moment is finally here. What will this city bring us? More transit hubs, maybe? Expanded downtown? New names from the community? Only time will tell where this city goes, so hop on for the ride and enjoy the show!
Let me know in the comments what you think or if you have any ideas for the build!
Thank you for watching! : )

Just found your channel, subbed. I love watching cities skylines videos to ease my anxiety and your attention to detail without being overwhelming is perfect.
Thank you! That makes me happy to hear it is calming! I'm glad you enjoy it!
Watch my videos bro and support plzz
I came here looking for help on building on cities. Your layout is amazing and I’m kinda following along until I can grasp my own idea for building cities. The only thing I couldn’t get was the small park in the little 8x8 grid across from the school because I don’t have anarchy so I just put a bunch of smaller parks to fill it in 😂. Great build so far.
Beautiful, one of the best I have seen! I started on a later episode but came back to watch the beginning :)
Thank you : ) I appreciate that! Glad you are enjoying the series. This is a fun one!
The grid layout is so satisfying and thank you for the captions!
Thank you! We are happy to be able to provide them!
I loved both canalville and crater lake 😍🥰
Bruuuh just 5mins into the video and am already amazed by the genius of your city building
Thank You! : )
alright... imma start this series from scratch. Dude, you deserve way more subs than you have. Your builds are sick!
Thank man! I appreciate that!
Recently found your channel, you had me at "Philadelphia" inspiration for a city square. As a lifetime resident of Philadelphia, the center city square for city hall is something I often replicate to greater or lesser degrees in my cities [albeit on Two Rivers, as Philadelphia is built upon two rivers.]. I absolutely approve, friend!
Philly is one of my favorite cities! Happy to hear I can get some local approval
@@CityZilla Cheers! Absolutely love this city of yours and how it's evolved!
Great start looking forward to following the series.
Thank you!
No idea what triggered your videos to pop up on my feed out of nowhere today but I'm glad it did. Going to enjoy watching this series.
Keep going man, i love this, just subscribe and started to watch
Thank you! I'm glad you are enjoying it!
Great video I like the peaceful music in the background
I dont even watch cities skylines videos so im not sure why this was recommended to me but im glad i clicked on it. I like your video style so far. Excited to see where this city goes
Thank you! I myself stumbled into the cities skylines youtube community as well. They are enjoyable and relaxing to watch.
30:47 I live in England and next to all the motorways inbetween towns/ cities it is mainly farmland . It makes it more convenient for farmers and crops aren’t affected by emissions in particular, though around 5% of our cars are electric now
I know this is old, but wouldn't raising the height of the riverbed you created prevent the huge canyon, so the lowest relative water level, is higher? Or maybe even make it wider and more shallow?
Anyways, great gameplay!
Yours roads layout very good 👍
So excited for the new series!
It's going to be a good one!
Your voice is incredibly soothing!
Your voice is so soothing
Awesome gameplay
Just discovered and subscribed to your channel, it's great !! I just have a question, what mods and DLCs are you using ?
Thank you, I have all of the dlc and Content Creator Packs. And there is a link in the description for my mods lits.
Love your videos! If it's not too much trouble would you be willing to list your mods and/or the assets you have installed? I don't recognize some of the ones you are using.
Thank you! Here is a list of the mods for this series: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2724399272
I am planning on updating the list this weekend and doing a seperate asset list as well.
@@CityZilla Thank you so much!!
It's like watching Bob Ross paint a picture
You can build a dam on that river! It should be nice and level the water!
I didn't even think about that. Thats a great idea!
I'm going to start here. Good bye spare time for a while... 😅
I don't know why you only have 1.5k subs, but a suggestion for edits, don't fade over while explaining something and try not to time lapse everything or especially in this game road laying or basic stuff that isn't worth time lapses.
Thank you! We are slowly starting to get there! Thanks for the suggestions! I really appreciate it! I actually started making a lot of the changes you have mentioned starting in episode 12. It has deffinitally been a bit of a challenge getting used to it though.
I disagree I love the time lapses
But everyone has their own opinion 😊
@@CityZilla bro i really need a green city as my assinmnet can u help me i can pay for it
This
@@CityZilla Wow you grow so MUCH!
Yo bro u are just like city planner plays good at making cities and detailing them
Thank you! That means a lot
@@CityZilla np
Good start! You are insane..
Thank you!
Nice bro :)
My journey begins 😊
Neat layout
Thank you!
Subbed !
City skylines has to be best game to calm your nerves or to just express your creativity ya?
Definitely!
Reminds me of the ghost city layouts here in China.
I'll have to check those out!
The roads tool bar you're using that has the 1u, 2u, industrial...etc...what is it? I had it...lost it somehow and can't find it now. Thank you! Awesome channel
Thank you! It is called Better Road Toolbar by Delta 5-1
Thank you so much!
@@transmonkey1562 no problem! Happy to help.
@@CityZilla I have been thinking about this, but have never bothered to ask. Thank you!
I wonder when people talk about the DC layout is that it looks like a pentagram
Damn! It’s been a while since I play this game. I’ve lost hope we will get a sequel, hopefully we get a good dlc soon?
It would be nice. The recent skyscraper ccp was pretty good. I'm still holding out hope for a sequel eventually. I like to think they are taking there time with it
The most important add for a part 2 is have seasons as normal game play.
Do you draft your city plans before you dive in or improv on the fly?
It depends. Sometimes I have already done the build a few times to iron out certain aspects but then other times I only have a vision if what I want to do.
It stresses me out that you don’t fix the terrain before building 🙈
I do later on
What is the map name? Plz give map name in your description in future videos
It's called lagoon shore and it's apart of the base game
is it just me or does the map look like a goofy version of greece
I'm new to the game so I have lots of questions. I could not figure out how you handle sewage. (You went by it fast.) Another thing I am trying to understand is when you are using mods to do something I can't do in the base game. I realize you have a lot to do and don't want to do three-hour videos, so here is a suggestion. I don't know if it would work, because nobody else is doing it. Slow down when you're building, then do cuts. Don't speed through, but simply cut it and come back when you finish and spend a minute explaining what you did. Either go back to slow building--and slow explaining--or make another cut. Lots of time watching people laying down roads without much commentary is boring, know what I mean? When you build a park, make a cut, then slowly explain what you did and WHY. You are really good at this, but your commentary is too fast for me to grasp what you are doing. Now, find a way to be different from other content-makers. This could work?
I really like this idea! I never realized I went to fast for a lot of people probably. I will try this on this week's videos and let me know what you think. Thanks for the feedback!
@@CityZilla Trust me, almost every creator does this speed warp thing. Then, they trail off. Repeating doesn't help because I can't slow it down and I can't play it loud enough to catch the trail off. I think in combo with the jump-cuts and explanations, it would work great. Might be worth a try. It will take some practice, believe me. (I've done lots of voice-over work.)
@@donlively4334 that's what I was sitting here wondering. How it would be to change my style like that. I'm just going to take it slow and see where it brings us. Thanks again for the feedback!
@@donlively4334 its hard for me to see my work from an objective point of view so every bit of information I get from the outside really helps me to grow as a creator.
@@CityZilla Sadly, I do have a lot of opinions. I am watching a ton of CS videos, and all do pretty much the same thing. I'm suggesting to try a different approach.
Maybe poll your subscribers to find out who is watching? Two weeks ago, I had no idea how to start the game. Now, I know, but am not good at it yet. I need to know how to use mods. I need to understand the transitions between milestones, and how to plan ahead. A year from now, I have no clue. Do any of your subscribers still watch after becoming very experienced?
If I were doing these videos, I would look for ways to be creative and different. I believe jump cuts are a different way. We don't watch stagehands move scenery. We watch scenes. So do the building, even remodeling, and then, show what you did. In detail. You spend the same amount of time, but differently, which makes you different from others. Just a couple of suggestions. As my father said, "Advice is free, until you take it." Best wishes.
Can you post the list of mods you use?
I actually have them linked in the description in the later episodes. I'm not sure if I updated it for the first one. : )
which mods do you use?
I use quite a few. I have a mod and asset list on steam. It is linked in most of my descriptions.
Does anyone know the mod he used at 22:01 to get the park there?
I uses anarchy
A lot of viewers are interested in other city builders so taking a map no-one has done before is a good start but it would be nice if you guys got away from this I got to make us cities all the time
I'm thinking about doing a Latin American themed city
@CityZilla the problem is there's no euro themed maps otherwise I would skylines out again and make one myself but as of right now there's nothing about to entice me back in yet
this vid come out 1 year ago but bro still like comments a year later
I do my best
Which map is it
It's called lagoon shore
nice ,,only to bad you have a bad mic.
Yeah, it wasn't until a little after this that I decided to get a new mic.
как называется карта?
It's called lagoon shore and it's apart of the base game
@@CityZilla спасибо
Dont like that background music.
Ive played this game for over 3 years but still have no idea how to play it 🥹
Just keep at it. It looks me many hours to get where I am
