- Hello and welcome to Crater Lake Episode: 16. This is a Cities: Skylines Let's Play series where I am using inspiration from around the United States to help shape design choices and road layouts. Not all of it is inspired, but I try to bring neat and fun ideas that I have stumbled across and incorporate them somehow into the city. In this episode: We build out a pretty extensive airport. I decided to take this to the next level and go all out. I designed a waterway around our airport hotel to utilize our metro for shuttle service and external transit. We build out a custom Tram station and, last but not least, design a long-term parking area and a short-term parking area. Fit with some budget hotels to accommodate every traveler.

You should make an bus line for the airport since taking an bus is faster than a tram (edit) also the airport looks very great I love how you always make great stuff in you city.
This is one awesome airport. At first i thought the shape looked like that painting "the scream", but in the end it almost looks like a guitar! Really cool and modern shape.

I watch most of the big names in city skylines. And I have favorite Citys but this particular city is my favorite of all. Love the look of it, You really did a good job on this. I'm looking forward to your mountain town build with the lodging.

End result looks amazing and I'm sure I would take like 4+ hours to build something remotely close to this. But holy hell, surely this could've used a minimal amount of editing to reduce from a feature-length film to something reasonable like 20 minutes!

@@CityZilla can you put in a rental car area and a offsite parking area with a bus connection to the airport. Company’s like Wally Park and the parking spot operate there airport parking lots and transport people to and from the airports and there lots with a bus shuttle

At the 5:25 mark, you make a good point about there being natural dips and stuff in roads. But one of the issues I find in CS is that many of the overpasses are way too high, which means you get slopes that are way too steep or weird dips and peaks. I find myself zooming in as far as I can and trying to get to the road surface level to see what heights make sense. Even in multi-level interchanges around where I live, you still get the US standard for interstate overpass heights of ~16 feet (4.8 meters) with smaller roads often being closer to 14 feet (4.2 meters). When you look at the vanilla overpass in CS, it's very weird and wonky because you could drive a 5-story apartment under it.

Amazing series, only things missing out, walk pathway from big parking spaces to Metro! People who park there can't reach out to the Metro by walk!

Earned a sub after seeing the thumbnail of your airport and the entire episode, without skipping anything, in my UA-cam suggestions. One tip: In the network Multitool, there is an option for making a curved connection (upside down U). That can actually make a smoother connection than using the "creating a connection" tool that looks like an S. The curve tool will make a smooth s instead of a curve if you connect them like you did and wouldn't be so sharp as you said. I hope that makes sense. Otherwise such a great video. Glad YT suggestion works sometimes 😊

Hello, I have recently started watching your videos! First and for most I love the city! It’s really nicely laid out! And while I think you could use some more node controller and skip tool and the rest of the tools in Unified UI the city is wonderful and truly a treat to watch and discover! I also love the commentary and how descriptive and upfront you are with your plans and overall direction of the city! I also love that you do things off camera and cover them in your videos! They are wonderful little surprises!
I had an idea for a naming convention for streets and/or districts and neighborhoods! I think it out be cool if you used the elements found in meteors combined with heights, village, shores, and other common suffix’s! So iron heights or cobalt shores, silicon gardens, nickel hills, sodiumhurst, calcium island, oxygen city, aluminum park, and potassium gardens….etc! You could also use the parts of comets as well! Also some meteors and commits also have names and you could also use those as well!
Good luck to you good sir and keep up with the content! Also I do love the airport! A bit large and not much room for cargo! I don’t believe there are any airports as large as yours! Well over all area is probs correct but your terminals are WAY to large! I also thing you need a couple more pot of transit to connect the two terminals!!

Especially you can create a full park landscaping, attraction, customer happiness, transportation, customization, utilities, and much more. I like the blue and red hotel , I could see them having price wars and advertising campaigns "Blue is for you " and "The best bed is in red " and loyaltie programs associated with competing air lines even though secretly both hotels are owned by the same company and they are just trying to give the illusion of choice .
Also the green spaces in the parking lots could have sum light commercial so you could grab a Coffey after parking your car or maybe rent a car .
Haha some true north American ideals right there. I like the commercial idea. I did that with my first airport build but didn't really think about it with this one. Great idea!

At 7:35 the onramp for the highway could be pulled back and you could have a few more nodes for cars to merge.
Thanks for bringing that up! That was one of those things where as I was editing it I was laughing about how we had fixed the other side all the while it was having even worse issues lol

We needed a turn around on the ground level as well so I just decided to make a redundant turnaround for people who maybe missed the first one up top at the same time

Usually airports have one taxiway for runway and another one for entering gates . You should not use one taxiway for both uses
"Remove Need For Power Lines" by Overhatted on the workshop. How will pedestrians get to terminals from parking lots?

when you set up a priority road that goes into a rounabout you need to check for it puts a give way on the roundabout. just saying.

I use a map theme which changes the color of the water breaks. It's in the mods list if your interested in checking it out. I use theme mixer 2 as well to adjust the different looks.
What is the name of this feature u mention that allows u to change trees on existing roads? Cheers
It was apart of the free update that fallowed the airports dlc. It allows you to hover over a road while selecting a tree to upgrade the tree type on the road. It's a pretty nice feature : )

I use fine road anarchy, network multitool and then my road collections are in my asset list on steam you can find in the description.
Is it the computer or the mods that makes your game so crisp?
Mostly Mods, I have a decent mid level gpu but nothing crazy. I am using theme mixer 2, render it, and ultimate eyecandy to get it all dialed in to where I like it.

Hallo, new sub here! Do u know there is an option in Node Controller to slope nodes to make the ramps more smooth? Select the node in Node Controller and change it from flat to sloped to fix the flat nodes on the sloped roads.
Hello! Welcome to the channel! Thanks for the tip! I do often use this feature, unfortunetally I am having an issue with node controller at the moment. After going through all of my mods it was one of the only ones I got a performance hit from after the new DLC so I am not playing with it right now. I am actively trying to solve the issue though as I depend on the mod pretty heavily.
@@CityZilla u r not the only one to have problems with mods after the new update. Biffa said he still isn’t able to load his British build cause of mod issues.
Love the build but I have one major problem...You need a road to the hangers so the imaginary mechanics can get to work. :) My son is an aircraft mechanic, so I can't let you forget about them.

That is the biggest beef I have with most people's builds. No access roads. No fire protection..no police....
Yeah, this is deffinitally something I tend to overlook. I am trying to get into the habit of incorporating it into my builds rather than having to add them in after the fact. Thanks for bringing this up though. It's good for me to know this is really important to people!

Hey can you get all of the vanilla and 🚦 management stuff on the PS4 version
Unfortunately, there are no mods in the console versions. The game is still really fun but a lot of the functionality is removed. There are still some traffic tools though.
which mod do you use to get the 3 lane one way with bus lane

how is your unified UI still working. Mine stopped after airlines release
I ended up unsubscribing from my entire workshop library. Then I used the mod compatability checker combined with the loading screen mod to sift through my whole library. I am running pretty close to bare bones right now if you take out roads. But everything except node controller seems to be doing well for me. I had a lot of bloat in my assets. Just purging the content I didn't really use helped my game out a lot.
One thing you can do for a bit of realism and aestheticism is to use anarchy to put the prop planes in the hangers, this adds a lot more to the hangers which I think should have been an option from the start.
I never thought of that. I was kind of bummed when I found out the hangers were just props. Would have been cool to see planes pull into them. Thanks for the idea!

If you use the move it mod with the selection tool you can grab everything and shift it : )

Removing sand would not cost the city it would earn them money , sand is used in concrete , glass , water filtration and landscaping . The city would get payed well for all that sand . But the city might want too keep it for there own uses like improving beaches .
You know what's funny. I have actually been involved in something like this but just not with beach sand. I didn't even think about it in this way. Sand is a huge commodity. Thanks for bringing this up!

Dont worry about it, It was an oversight by me in this episode. I had gotten a bunch of comments about it and that's what got me to place it in the next one. I originally was thinking the airport itself would have a fire department apart of the airport. Not one on the outside.
It’s a mode that cancel the power line
Thank you! I try not to use no need for power lines. I used to use it before I started recoding but the power lines make it a little more difficult.
You know aside from this video as a console cities skylines player I really wish that we had the option to have metros on roads plus add our own pillars along with the based game pillars hell if the next dlc were to be based on metros and monorails I hope that would be the case.
It would be pretty nice to get some more transit networks. I wish they allowed Mods on console. That would be something! Maybe one day they will figure out how to do it.
@@CityZillawell tbh they actually allowed some mods on Xbox one version and ps4 console which surprisingly worked but they were nothing special they were just mods made by quad.
Oh I didn't know that. That's nice they at least tired a little bit. Maybe we will see some more stuff in the coming year. Fingers crossed!

what is the best dlc do buy? i’ve watched a lot of your videos and because of that i wanted to buy cities skylines and now i wanna buy a dlc. what would you recommend
That is a tough question. My favorites are Campus, Industries, and now Airports. But I really enjoy the modular aspects of them. I utilize Trams quite a bit which weirdly came with Snowfall and I enjoy Afterdark stuff because it gives you tourism and leisure. I would suggest starting with something that you think would be cool to build out like a university or tourism area or even an airport and go from there. All of the dlcs can be kind of overwhelming together so it is definetally worth just going one at a time. Bridges and peirs is in my top as well and the content creator packs tend to be a little more cost effective but it gives you some really cool metro stops that I use a lot.
I will do an episode this coming week about dlcs and which are my favorite. I'll go over how I have used them all in my two series and try to give a bigger picture of the enjoyment I get out of them but also the ones I don't really use a lot and why.

Not a fan of runways moving in opposite directions. This could lead to collisions between approaching traffic and departing traffic in real life.
Definitelly, only one direction would be allowed open at a time. Most runways are bidirectional to account for wind. Would have been fun to see them work that into the game.
What is the name of the map?
This map is called Lagoon Shore. It's one of the base game maps.
Have you watched any of your vids & counted the word Actually? I gave up after 20, remember the English lanuage has much to offer.
I struggled with this for a while and still do sometimes. But I have gotten a lot better over time : )
