    DAYUM! That desk/table is hype. I really like that!
    Also loved her honesty about what she didnt like and what she'd change. very elegant style, shows you dont have to put loads of stuff into a house to make it look lovely.

      Ana White I would put a shelf holder four to six inches down from the shelves above the sink that hold both the sink covers when not in use, free up the space under the sink and make it less likely they get dinged around the edges. $200 cabinets, you made a good deal with that DIY.

    As an older person looking to build a tiny home to get out of rentals, I have been looking at videos and searching for THE ONE! Well, I do believe I have found it! I wanted one with a bedroom on the main floor but the bonus is the guest bed/couch. Also I LOVE the desks/table set up - how ingenious! Frankly, I love everything about this tiny. I would, however, be living full-time so would definitely need the bathroom.
    Thank you for making the plans available for no charge. I am sure that you have other incredible plans for $$ but this one is, I believe, the one I have been searching for.

    People seem to forget indoor plumbing wasn't common until about 100 years ago, and even then plenty of rural places didn't have indoor toilets. My mom's grandparents had a farm in the Midwest. They still had an outhouse when she was growing up in the 50s and 60s and that was their primary home. It wasn't extremely unusual at the time although I believe even most rural homes had indoor bathrooms by then. If I recall correctly, they had plumbing in the kitchen.

      Now days they make toilets that you just pull the tray from the bottom and empty outside or in trash. No different then if we have dogs that go to the bathroom then we put it in a bag and throw it out in the trash. It's just more practical this day in age to have it inside. You don't need extra things such as plumbing or other. Especially if they are in alaska, why would you want to get hats and gloves on and bundle up just to go to the bathroom?

      For our intended use, which is not full time living an outhouse is sufficient. We haul water for drinking and washing dishes. Stay tuned for they tiny house with a bathroom. Dry cabin/house means there is no plumbing, it is quite common in Alaska. If there were plumbing we would have to keep this tiny house heated all winter. Since it is just a recreation/job site housing that would not make since for us. Thanks for watching!

    I like this design a lot! I love that the bed is not only in it's own nook but you can stand by it and climb into it safely. Everything is so nice and practical in this one. I would love to see the same lay-out maybe with an extension passed the "bedroom" kind of like a walk through because the huge windows are a must stay but add the bathroom in the back.

  • @AnneAndersonFoxiepaws
    @AnneAndersonFoxiepaws 7 років тому +2

    You are the first person I have seen who built in the bed with storage underneath. .thats what I am doing (later with the extension we'll have double sleep lofts for the kids but I am not getting younger and the old fashioned 'crofters' style built in box bed is something that always appealed to md...its lovely to see one already in use. .I'm still between putting folding louvre doors to match the shower/composting loo doors but may go for heavy floor length curtains for privacy and cosiness. ..absolutely love your house and believe me with an extension, lean-to woodshed and a 20'x 12' field shelter for the goats, horse and chickens (we only have the horse at the moment at my sisters about a mile away as the crow flies) I'm gonna need all the help you can give. ..we have limitless wood...over 100 acres still untouched and the rest we"re replanting with indigenous broad leaved trees...The weather has been a constant battle..thus building all the components close together to add stability to the house and field shelter alike. ..we're keeping as low as possible but also need to incorporate the sleep lofts for the kids...but we get 125mph+ winds direct from Siberia and we don't want to be either flattened by falling trees or blown away. This has to be taken into consideration with (we don't need wheels btw) with the fact that the warmest houses are built off the ground by a couple of feet (insulation and damp proofing alone isnt enough. ..it also gives us space for any butane/propane tanks and our emergency generator) I could go on all day as I am stoked at seeing your lovely place...I'm gonna harvest rainwater and put in a solar/wind hybrid system next spring! I also have a very fast running stream at the bottom of a ravine near the cabin so I'm going off grid from the start..obviously a wood stove with some cooking capabilities is central to my plans. ok I subbed and am watching avidly xx

    I'm not sure why people have yet to take full advantage of the five shed per lot law. And build a tiny bathroom, tiny bedroom and tiny kitchen with covered porches to walk from unit to unit. As long as the sheds are not attached to one another and the porches are not attached to the shed (free floating) then you can have up to five large sheds with a court yard in between.

      Castaway all states, most counties, and a lot of municipalities have different laws. And building code in most states indicate there has to be a house before permits can be drawn for outbuildings. That said, if it is legal where you are at, you should go forward with that plan quick before they change that....the banks need you to sign that mortgage document on a big 3200 sq ft McMansion.

    If this was on your own property and you left it, you could easily build another elevated shed/trailer for your bathroom off the back deck using a composting toilet and solar hot water.

    What is the cost of this project? 😊
    Can it also be towed on the trailer?
    I absolutely love this house and it seems a lot larger than a lot of tiny houses. If you wanted a bathroom you could put it in the downstairs bedroom and use the loft as a primary space for rest. I love the sinks and the trundle bed, and the ceiling you could put in a sky light for additional natural lighting and to make it seem even more luxurious. I love the exposed shelving and the colour palette is beautiful. I feel that pastels would be easily added, and in particular that light almost white blue. I feel it would be very easy to put a more traditional country mark on it if someone wanted just as you could make it ultramodern. I love the idea of plywood floors. Very intriguing and smart use of reusable materials. Also the windows are huge and very nice. To make it seem more traditional you could get some old, recycled windows if that suited your style. I adore the two tables! Every about this house is absolutely gorgeous! 😍

    I don't know if you've covered this in a previous video but how about placing a potential bathroom under the loft instead? In such way the house would keep it's open plan design while just sacrificing a space to sleep.
    I'm not too familiar with building a house regarding a shower so the water vapor might mean trouble for the loft area, I don't know. However, it's an idea.

      While I am sure that was meant to be a compliment to her, as a woman let me tell you that just comes off as a bit creepy. And how does someone even respond to that? However, its a valid concern. Any family that doesn't feel the open design to be suitable could add a little door to the bedroom under the loft. Personally I think children should be brought up with sex being a natural normal part of human life. Not that you have to be throwing a Play Boy Mansion party with them just above in the loft, but there are definitely ways to be subtle without making a complete ruckus. My parents were very active. And I shared a wall with them. Children aren't stupid regardless of how far away they are in the house. Better to just be open and honest. Anyone who feels otherwise doesn't really need to leave such awkward comments.

    • @NATTtheCATT
      @NATTtheCATT 8 років тому +90

      You can have your opinion. I never said anything about seeing it or doing with an open door. I simply said that you don't have to pretend that it doesn't exist. Kids have questions and they ask and it's MY opinion that it's best not to lie to them. I don't think it's necessary to completely hide the total existence of something that is natural. Kids are going to learn about these things at school anyways and it's better they learnt the facts from loving parents than from our over sexualized society.

      It sounds like they use this tiny house as a weekend retreat. I'm sure if they can't hold off for a weekend of family time they are able to do what they need/want quietly enough that this doesn't really become an issue. This isn't their full-time home. When you go on vacation with your kids and share a hotel room are you worried about how you will get your sexy-time in, or are you in family mode?

      All bears do not hibernate, that is a misconception. They will get up from their deep sleep (torpor)if they smell food and many other reasons. I am from northern Ontario and I have seen many bears out in the middle of winter -40C weather. I found out that they are not true hibernators because I thought maybe there was something wrong with these bears only to find out its normal!
