One of my favourite shoes for running. Goes fast and easy to walk up hills, will definitely use this as my race shoes for the upcoming 10ks! Plus it's cheaper than all the other super trainers out there!
almost 1000 miles in my pair of Boston 12 and still enjoying them (no tear in the upper and still a fair amount of rubber under... though I'm not a heel striker)... even if I have a newer pair, I still like how my "old" pair feels.
@@jeffbarnard348 I have a pair of Endorphin Speed 3 with 50k max, I still prefer the old Boston 12 even to run 20 miles... With my stride, I mostly wear down the forefoot... and with the Speed 3, my feet are tired after 10km.
Grabbed a pair of felt tongue pads and this took away the lace bite and heel slip. Made the Boston 12 an absolute banger of a shoe paired with the NB4 for solid rotation set.
For me the Boston 12 has been the shoe I have enjoyed the most the last year. In a world where running shoes are becomming more and more bulky and tall, this shoe is a fresh breath of air. And as the review says; this shoe can do it all for a reasonable price. I have not had an Adidas shoe in my rotation for many years, and was a little worried about the minimal upper, but that has actually become one of the things I like the most about it - not so much padding to sweat down. I highly recommend it!
I really like the Boston 12 for paces around 4.45 to 5m/km (half marathon pace for me). It holds the pace well for long runs also. For faster paces I much prefer the Takumi Sen 9, Speed 4, and Wave Rebellion Flash 2. My Boston 12's have about 500km on and if i go further that 10k in the now I get stiff knees after a run.
I can only compare the Boston to the Endorphin Speed and would say the Endorphin Speed feels slightly better, but only slightly. On durability the Boston knocks the Speed out the parc. I think you can do twice the distance of the Speed in the Boston and it's better priced as well. I recently bought a second pair of Bostons over the Speeds
the boston 12 is still the best all arounder out there but the evo sl might have a word with it when it drops even without the plate. i can't wait to see the boston 13
I think the EVO SL will replace most of what the Boston 12 used to do. Not to mention the EVO SL upper looks amazing compared to the tire fire that the Boston 12 upper (and heel lockdown specifically) can be for many runners. Superblast V2 is great for long runs and MP/HMP but beyond that I find it clunky. Tempo Next% is my favourite shoe....like....ever. 3 pairs with 1100km (treadmill only now), 800km and 250km. But I'm an Alphafly racer and love the pods. I really need to try and snag a few more pairs of Tempo Next% since it doesn't seem like Nike will produce another trainer companion for the Alphafly again. :(
I have the boston 12 and the Neo Vista and to be really honest I love my Neo Vista, soooo freaking fun to run on them. But I still use my Boston 12 for series and Fartleks since I need more of that ground feeling for that
I would still pick up as a daily trainer shoe that provides protection, cushion, can do slow, fast (tempo, fartlek, intervals), without carbon plated, not totally firm but soft and bouncy, that's the Asics Superblast 2. Alternatives for speed session likes of Adidas Adios Pro 3 or Pro 4, Adidas Takumi Sen 10, New Balance Revel v4, Hoka Mach 6 or Mach X 2,
B12 is a great steady long run shoe. The upper and fit get better with every km. My shoe of choice over 25km (outside of the Adios Pro 3). Outer sole lasts very well. There are better options for short, easy days since I prefer a softer shoe for those days (eg VN2, DN2 or Balos). The B12 locks into Z2 or Z3 paces well. Nimble to accelerate to quicker but a touch firm for Z4 work. Has the speed though.
I use my pair for threshold/ tempos and they are so nice for that. Got a bit over 500k on them and when they will be done i will either get another pair of Boston 12s or the Adidas evo sl. They are looking nice for that kind of running
Such a beast of a shoe, can handle any workout. It’s pleasant at easy paces and a powerful speedster when you need it to be. It’s also great for heavy runners, plenty of support and cushion.
Still my favorite trainer. Phenomenal shoes for comfortably stacking miles with great support. Also great for picking up the pace with tempo/speed work. The Continental outsole grip is undefeated.
I tried the Boston 12’s as companion shoes for the adizero pro 3’s, the latter i absolutely love but after almost 100km i had to conclude the Boston 12’s were not working for me. They were pretty ok for runs up to 8k but for longer runs it was not working for me especially due the floppy heel counter which negatively impacted my Achilles. Also they feel pretty flat, I don’t get any real push or pop from them by default, only if you put a lot of effort in it. So for me it’s a more controversial shoe. I mostly run on Saucony endorphin shoes and I never have to think about them they simply work and the uppers are very comfortable. I’m now looking into an alternatives also non-plated, just bought some craft endurance pro’s for 70eur, PEBA mix sole, not really mainstream but pretty ok’ish shoe, but firm for peba. I’m looking forward to the evo sl’s, definitely going to give the a try once available.
I’m sad the Mozuno wave rebellion flash 2 isn’t in here or getting any love in the uk. It’s such a good super trainer and you can pick up a pair for £105 now. So underrated 😢
I adore my Boston’s and will grab some more at discount price when I can. Don’t have an issue with the upper, it’s just the lacing system, who ever signed off on first few eyelets being that way deserves a slap. If it had a a standard lacing system, would be a contender for one of my all time favourites
Really like my Boston 12 and slowly leaning towards a full adidas rotation (takumis for track, Boston for threshold and tempo, adios pro for long runs and racing), except for recovery where the Invincible is, well, invincible. Bostons are great although I am not fully convinced by lightstrike 2.0, I find it still too firm and a bit uncomfortable. As i am more of a midfoot/forefoot striker it does not bother me that much, but I can feel when the landing is not on the lightstrike pro foam. A full ls pro with rods and Boston 13 will be perfect. Curious about the evo SL but not sure it will be as efficient in terms of energy return as the Boston without rods.
I personally had no issues with the upper on the Boston’s. They did feel a bit baggy, but other than that, they felt pretty comfortable. Definitely not the best upper in the game, but I had no issues but thanks for the video.
Enjoyed the comparisons thanks Nick. Has the team tried out the Wave Rebellion Flash 2? Seems a closer Boston comparison in this category than the Neo Vista, I'm really enjoying it. Your list just shows how quickly this category has grown!
The Boston is the only shoes I have two pairs of and still use the first pair, at 540 miles it still has rubber in the heal this is the first to go in any shoes I've owned. I've had that lace bite but it was only when I wore thin socks with the shoe, I use a runners knot and the shoe disappears on my foot like no other, the toe box and the drop is perfect for me, the only thing it's not an easy day recovery shoe but anything faster it's great rain or shine with that outsole and was surprised by the midsole when I ran a hilly 10k, I was able to bound down the hill with easy, I will definitely get a 3rd pair.
Just goes to prove the Boston is in a league of its own, Nick has tried to select many shoes to compete with it but the Boston always comes out top. Adidas did a fantastic job with it, ok the upper isn’t great but it’s all about that midsole, the rods and the grip. Still love mine after many miles
I’m surprised that nobody seems to mention that the Boston 12 fits quite long - I had to go a half size down compared to the Takumi Sen 8 (and all other shoes), but it still felt slightly too big/long! (This was the black/yellow/pink colorway)
I’d love to get my hands on those SC trainers but New Balance prices are too much in my country. Even the Rebel v4 is more expensive than the boston 12 by about 25 to 30 USD.
I’ve had to give my Boston 12s away. Couldn’t stop the heel slip and with the heel spurs I have, it would rub and was - for me anyway, unwearable. I’ve got four pairs of Adios Pro 3s and haven’t had that problem so thought the Boston would be a good option. For me it wasn’t but I did get them for 1/2 price ($80 US), so I’m not going to complain too much. They just weren’t for me.
how does it compare to the Adidas Pro 3 ? Would this be a good training option? I am especially interested in the fit because the most of the Adidas shoes are too narrow for me. The Pro3 just fits...
Anyone have any pain from these shoes? Got a pair and went in a 6 mile easy run. Felt fine during the run. Got done and slowly started feeling pain in a tendon above my inner ankle. Not sure if it was the shoe or what. Was feeling perfectly fine before the run.
I tried these in the local store. the heel slip was horrendous. can anyone who owns them give any tips about that? i really wanted to buy them given all the positive reviews
I have both SL2 and Boston 12. I'm shocked that people are comfortable calling the Boston 12 a daily trainer. In my opinion, they're way too stiff for that (and I've put over 200km in them). The SL2 are softer, more flexible and can still get up to speed but without the snappiness of the Bostons. I use my Bostons on tempo/interval days and the SL2 during all other runs. I usually run 5 days a week and use the Boston on maybe just one run.
@@sjhudaMate - thank you for such an awesome and comprehensive response. I grabbed a pair of SL2 and can’t wait to try them out tomorrow. They feel really nice to be fair and so versatile for the price. My current daily is a Hoka Mach6 and so far they’ve been really comfortable and responsive. Just needed something to rotate and the price seems fair. Thanks once again and happy running!
@sjhuda I'm selling my b12s as they hurt my feet during runs. It also hurts my achilles and what not. My heel feels like it sits below my forefoot. I dont like them. Gonna just go big and try some vaporfly 3s
Such a shame about that upper .it's a total Paine in the bum. Let's hope they fix that with the next one. I'm surprised the sl2 didn't get a mention. I love that too.
I'm unfortunetly gonna sell mine. They just don't provide much Comfort on my runs. I dont feel like energy rods do anything and I know there's a 6mm drop, but it feels like my heel is below my forefoot. I can't stand the shoe. Gonna go a bit bigger and try to get some vaporfly 3s
Like the Boston 12, however I wouldn't say it's a 'super' trainer. It's a solid training shoe but not one for race day. Pro 3 would be my race day shoe of choice.
@@RustyNinja100 yeah I have the endorphins 3 for speed. Just want a nice daily for my long runs. The other day I worked out my legs them the next I have an hour and half run so I probably could have used this. Right now I have vamero 17 and endorphins 3. @@camonly849it's probably because I have flat feet. Maybe you have the same. The shoes that work for me are the Brooks Hyperion 2 which I can use for about a half marathon. For marathon I go with shoes with hardly any cushion like the Adidas Adizero 7.

Do you mind letting me know at what avg pace you ran on it? I'm considering getting the boston 12 for my first marathon
