- Micro Fishing Rods are all over the fishing market, many are cheap instant garbage rods. Only a select bunch of micro fishing rods pass my test. I want to show you guys my current collection and how to find the GOOD ones, so you don't waste your time and money buying instant garbage. This is just my opinion, take it or leave it!

I had the Coleman Pen rod and reel and this thing was very sturdy. While waiting for my loads to be packed into the trailer as a commercial truck driver, I would go to the local parks or lakes that allow fishing and I would use this to catch some pretty good size fish. The last time I used this was to catch a very huge slab of crappie and he was delicious for dinner. I little girl who was at the lake was just asking me all sorts of questions on how to fish and what to use for bait. She only was using a straight stick she cur down herself and made a pole out of it. After about an hour, I had enough to put in my freezer in the truck and I gave her the Coleman, the look of surprise and the tears of joy were enough for me to know I made the right choice to give this to her. I know she will cherish it for a long time as I have for 5 yrs. I'm sure I will find another either on ebay or Amazon, but to teach a child to fish, they will be able to teach their siblings, their kids, and even their grandkids.
The pen fishing rod is a good rod. I caught a 2 pound bass on one of them before. The one i used was the spinning combo. Not the baitcaster. That’s garbage. Spinning is a great combo overall

The penrod he got is the knockoff version of the original. Mine is the spinning version and its awesome!
Yo, if you read the website, it says that the bait caster that you have on there DOESN’T CAST! I have the one that casts it works, this is a garbage review.
I picked one pen rod up for 3$, it was a solid crawdad catcher. Small and maneuverable. Definitely a novelty item but interesting.

Every one has an opinion and that's fine, here's mine. I lived in Alaska for 19 years during which I did a lot of mountain biking. I had a little micro rod that would break down into a case about the size of a paperback novel. I'm sorry I don't remember the make of it. Because of my location, I would come across many small pristine streams and lakes. My tackle box was an Altoids can. I caught hundreds of trout on that little rod and always had a fresh fish meal on the trail. Like I said, my location was unique. I have no bad words for that little rod, it always caught my lunch without fail.
the emmrod packer kicks ass, best rod I own and I carry it everywhere. watch the videos and learn how to use it. you'll fall in love with it

I've the bait casting pen one, haven't used it yet, but I do fish a lot of my small direct drive reels; handle spins when you cast. I don't think I'll have much issue with it...
Try fishing lures from aliexpress you can get carankbaits for 75 cents
Living in Miami Beach, I purchased this rod at my job during Christmas, thinking it would break, the one I got from work is rather durable, since it took three black grunts about 6 to 7 pounds each with problem and a Spanish mackekal, now I have it with a different reel since the one came was plastic. But after changing it. I found it to be rather fun if you want a challenge or need it for bait fish
3rd rods actually pretty solid rod for a telescopic, snagged it plenty of times without it breaking and even reeled in a brick one time. Downside is the handle isn't comfortable, had blisters casting with lures for an hour and the eyelets rust over time
I have one of the metal spring rods and the thing works fine. Of course it's not gonna cast like a surf caster. I usually keep mine in my car with a couple diamond jigs in the glove box and do some jigging for mackerel if I'm near a bridge. Or if the job site I'm working at is on some water somewhere I'll bring a couple lures and fish at lunch
I own the pen rod. I enjoy it mostly to get minnows and small fish, I just put my smallest hook on and the small ones go for it. It's a novelty for sure, but I like it for the fun of it.
I got an emmrod rod original and it's a nice rod to used for vertical fishing, boat fishing kayak fishing. The original one look more long than the knock off. Will be nice if you can get the original emmrod and do a test on it.
I have a no-name brand 6'6" telescopic rod and a Diawa underspin 120 reel. Compact, light and quite capable. Could go to a longer rod, but the collapsed size goes up as rod length increases! This one is compact enough to fit in a backpack or even briefcase with no trouble.
I've got one one those little gold bait casters. I cast it like a fly rod. Lots of fun when a fish is on

Still can’t beat my kinder egg reel with a sewing reel and bamboo cane plus rod tip section and insane part I caught more fish than the other dudes with $50 rods 😂.
All are still pretty useful especially on a far distance drive across the country through lakes & streams .
i had the small drum reel thing for sabiki. it was terrible and can't even reel in fast. luckily there's no bigger fish attacking the bait fish.
I actually bought a pen fishing rod with a tiny spinning reel and I replaced the line that came with it with an 8 lb mono.
Let me tell you something, for catching smaller fish that are not far away, the pen rod and reel is a great deal. And I caught grunts and juvie snappers, and a bluegill on this rod. I caught the grunts and snappers in Florida. And I caught a bluegill in Indiana when I visited my brother a few weeks ago.
Small and easy to take and fish anywhere.
I might have a vivid imagination but the shape of the part where the reel blends in with the rod reminded me of a Colt 1851 Navy. Might be because of the curve and the hinge joint.
Ok I have an explanation of how I use that exact "emmrod". I sling shot the lewer to where I want it. use a bait caster, 20 pound test mono line, 15" 26 pound test steel lead, and usually a fake frog. I do not have any other use for it, and I do not have any other rig that works as good as this one does for this really specific job. I hope this answers any questions.

Id say the folding one to do the test next on plus i think i would like the folding fishing poll as well it be grate to keep in your car so you can go fishing at the spare of the moment
I'm a fan of the dock demon too. Last fall I got a 9lb carp on mine. I'm going to try to break that this fall.
lol pretty sure the 1st rods effective for ice fishing or even with jigging the sabiki up and down. wouldn't want to use any of them though haha
Your untested looks like someone was working on Ron Popeil Pocket fisherman design. I've caught so many bass, pike, musky, carp, catfish, trout and even many large saltwater on a circa late 70s or early 80s pocket fisherman - until it was stolen. Brought with me when it wasn't practical or even a thought to have a full size pole.

i usually use emmrod for boat fishing because its not necessary cast out so far away just drop to the side of the boat
i dont recommend for shore fishing
emmrod also suitable for kayak fishing
Of the tiny rods, my personal favorite is the mighty might. I bought one just to play with and try it out. Made bluegill really fun. Also tried it out in saltwater, at the mouth of the Severn river in MD with white perch. Not the best casting rod but nice for lakes or flipping under docks from kayak. Though if using it for saltwater I’d recommend putting a slightly better reel on it.

Senko Skipper yup, on amazon you get random color rod/reel combo is $15 oh also the line it comes with is garbage I put 4lb mono on my bluegill one and either 6 or 8 for white perch. Can’t remember which. Walmart’s around here carry it too typically near register in sporting goods.

Yes please don't call that knockoff an emmrod I own 3 of the real ones and they are amazing they are not that cheep junk and that actually work

Yes, pen rod is crappy especially the reel but rigged correctly and if there's fish around, it will catch fish. We caught trout with it by simply tossing the bait and line by hand. After a catch, the reel in is hilarious because it's super slow. So don't knock it yet. Micro pen rod is fun.
i had a pen rod that i caught tons of bluegills and quite a few catfish with it. i changed the reel to a zebco 11 because the reel that came with it was trash
With the pen rod get the spinning reel version u can cast it I had both and the spinning rod I caught bass pike crappie and trout it is very good and fun
So basically the baotcaster casts like an old southbend, you can cast direct drives but they are probably more effective for jigging or flipping
I use this micro rod for an ice fishing. However, I attach a regular reel with electrical tape.
these are defo not for serious fishing but I think some would be great for small kids (4-5yrs) to get them into fishing. The pen rod would be light and easy to hold for them.
lol please don't call your Cheap knock off an Emmrod. I love your channel but unfairly reviewing someones product by name because you didn't want to buy the real one is wrong.I have an Emmrod, its not the best pole. its not even as good as a real pole with the same $90 price tag but its small, strong, and great for kayaking once you get the hang of it. Like I said I'm a big fan I just feel this is only more unjustified hate for a product from another person who hasn't even tried the real thing.

the cheap china pen rod actually works... it comes with 3 different reel types: baitcasting, spinning and fly reel... get the one that comes with the spinning reel... Ive caught lots of tilapia at the canal and largest was an 800 gram giant snakehead... use it like an ajing ultralight lol and its actually loads of fun for catching small fish or bait fish...
LRF set ups are nice but can cost a heavy wedge considering the small size and capabilities of the rods

I bought a few micro pen rods with different reels and the reel you are using is the absolute worst. I gave mine away. since I upgraded the reel on my Dock Demon to a Zebco ZSE20 I modified the Dock Demon reel to fit my PEN ROD and this combo works fantastic.
Ok. What reel was on that 3rd setup?
I have one of the spinner models and it works fine for me. Has pulled me some tilapia and small Largemouth Bass.

@@HeySkipper yeah. Use a 1/16 lead head and a big hammer perch grub. Doesnt go too far but does the job.
I'd want to try that $5 one.
Honestly though I'd rather get a standard telescopic fishing rod thought.
Pen rod with fixed spool works ok. TA Fishing on you tube has done a series using the penn rod and has caught some decent fish on it

Try the pocket combo by profishience, the reel is meh but better than a lot of these I’ve tried but the rod is fantastic. I replaced the reel with the zebco micro 33 myself though
The fishing rod in 4:51 looks a lot like the Instant Fisherman.
I got the pen rod for $10. The one with the spinning reel is way better than the baitcaster. The one with the spinning reel casts fine and works fine. I’ve caught many fish on that rod.
The emmrod is more for ice fishing, or vertical fishing

I have a pen rod and the reel that comes with it is a spinning reel and it only cost $15 and I caught a barracuda that was almost a kilo.

I have a REAL Emmrod even tho I don't fish with it much. It's a great boat rod. I have a baitcasting reel on mine and just drop it overboard. Reeled in a few good size catfish with it and not a issue.
My boyfriend caught our biggest fish an 8lb lake trout on one of these micro rods. They’re cheap no doubt about it but hell I’ve caught a huge black drum on a roll of tape with line tied off it, a hook, and shrimp so if you could make anything work for the love of fishing. Don’t get me wrong, we love our ugly sticks and have a variety of heavy duty and pro rods that were a pretty penny, but these rods are for fun on a budget not pro fishing. Like I said our record fish was on the pen rod you featured so I can’t hate on it.

i2aspire and Senko Skipper, I did caught a bluegill when I was visiting my brother in Indiana a few weeks ago.
But before then, at a tidal creek near my home in Florida, I caught juvie snappers and blue-striped grunts with the very same micro pen rod and reel.
@@Asnes45 It can actually do serious fishing for smaller fish , like panfish, grunts, or snappers. I tried it myself.
The collapsing spin-cast from the box with all the Chinese lettering is basically a copy of the popeil pocket fisherman with a couple modifications. Had one of those. It was ok. I've had a few telescopic rods like the quantum telecast and the eagle claw pack rod. For what those are I had no complaints. I don't see a point in spending money for these gimmicky rods. Telescopic do fine for casual fishing.

That em rod (1st one) looks more like a jigging rod.
For me is the pen rod wery good I catch on it trouts, rudds and fishes like that
PLEASE I NEED YOUR HELP! .... I have found an extremely lightweight telescopic fishing rod that is carbon fiber that has a foam handle. When I bought it it weighed 60grs. I modified the foam handle. Got it down to 48grs. I've tested it and it works well. It's 30" long when fully extended. But I'm looking for an ultra lightweight small fishing reel for it.
It's for my ultralight backpack, so I can do some fishing while I'm backpacking ultralight.
My current fishing reel is the Kash King 500 ice fishing reel. It weight is about 5.7grs. and it feels like a boulder. When I'm holding The rod and reel. ( LOL )
Do you have any suggestions for a super small super ultralight fishing reel? That I can pair with this rod. It's just for fishing creeks and streams. In the mountains. I don't need anything too big or heavish.

Last one is a Chinese knock-off of the Instant Fisherman, an "As Seen On TV" rod back in the 90s I believe.
Nah, pocket fisherman's different, that one looked like an oversize tape measure or something.
This is all your personal opinion man the pen rod I've caught tons of fish on and I have no problem with.

That baitcaster on the amazon penrod is garbage, but there are few spinning reel ones that cast quite alright. My favorite yellow perch set up haha. I use the original USA company's model though. Better than the knock offs.
