- I had many questions about etching and I have answered those questions with this tutorial. Can you etch in color? Can you etch on colored glass? Please watch the video to find out!
Thick printer's ink works, but if you do not cover over rub and buff or anything that you color over etching with an acrylic varnish it is not waterproof. Obviously this doesn't work glasses that you drink or put in the dishwasher as it will eventually wear the varnish off and then you colored etching.
I love that your videos are real. Your forgetting to take off the transfer tape made me feel better. I’ve done that before and beat myself up for not paying attention. Thanks for not editing over that. 😊
Thanks for sharing ur knowledge with us. I just bought Amour Etching Cream & did a test run on a wine glass & my NYC Letters came out goood. Adding color was another thing i wanted to do to make it stand out.
When I first thought of the concept of coloring etched glass, my mind immediately went to the idea of mixing etching cream with various coloring solutions and food coloring was the first. I quickly shot that idea down, figuring that it wouldn’t adhere or take since it’s safe to eat, and I’m just glad to know that my assumption was correct. Though, it would have been cool if it did. I want that Mickey Glass !!!!! Ok maybe not. I'm not a blue fan but I think Mickey came out as one cool blue fella. Thanks for yet another wonderful fun video. I've got to search through my storage for glass ware. Oh did you ever try the hints about warming up the etching cream to melt or disolve the crystals? I've got some older cream never opened and bet it's developed crystals for sure and it'll be a good trial to see if that works and how much heat. I'm thinking of starting with a hot water bath in a deep pan tap water hot and let the bottle of etching sit in it for a while then check on it and if that doesn't work warm water in a pan to a bit higher heat and process again. I am curious of it works though. Your etches always come out so perfect.
I sandblast for my etching but I have never done colored glass and I want to and I want to color my etchings at least once
You can try rub and buff and oil based pens to add color to etchings
Most times ppl use the alcohol inks after they etch and it takes, also some use the painters markers & also rub n’ buff to color the etching. It’s a second step AFTER the etching is done. Stir your solution it will make the Lumps a lot smaller and they will dissipate
Try using mica poweder, works awesome
Can we apply a spray or liquid sealer to it to make it water resistant
Red and blue sharpie over etched part then rinse off sharpie from smooth glass
Could you add a dap of acrylic paint to the armor etch
You can u se sharpee oil based to coloring after etching
I use rub ‘n buff to color my etching
I sandblast and haven’t tried the colored glass yet and that was next on my list. Thank you. Love the Mickey.
If you can get a plain glass, that has been overlaid with coloured glass, sandblasting will take of the top layer of coloured glass and leave a nice effect.

Maybe you could contact the manufacturer and see if the sell colored etching liquid. I also wondered if it might be better to wipe off the little crystals rather than putting them back in the container. Enjoyed the video!!
Thank you!! I suppose those that want to etch in color can call the manufacturer. I cannot see that it would work. Sometimes I don't have any crystals. I think it can vary based on the temperature. Not sure! Thank you again! 😊

Ever tried it with Mica Powder?
Do you just mix the mica powder with the epoxy?
