    After living in Vancouver for the past 7 years I really get tired of hearing about the high cost of living. Ageed if you 'need' to own a 3 bedroom house with a front driveway and garage to park your toys on then it is cost prohibited. BUT when you factor in the mental health advantages of the most mild climate in the country and the capacity to take your body outside most days there is no price tag that can match that. If living in Edmonton or Winnipeg is your deal then power to you. But the money you save in mortgage or rent will ne gobbled up by the costs of having to operate a reliable safe vehicle and furnish your winter wardrobe. Also factor in the costs of your winter escapes justvto gain some sanity after months of cold and grey days...yes there are grey days other than in Vancouver. Thanks for the video and allowing me to rant. Oh two last points, the transit here is cheaper and more efficient than many other larger Canadian cities and Vancouver is one of Canada's safest cities (I am a retired cop).

      West Vancouver is typically more expensive than Vancouver and is across the bridge so is a little out of the way from the hustle & bustle (that's a pro or a con depending on what you're looking for). It's a little oasis just outside of the city and, if you can afford it, an amazingly beautiful place to live. Arguably, one of the most beautiful places we've ever spent time in.. Again, these are just our thoughts... :)

      You would probably love Vancouver from the sounds of it. If you're going to college, you can always live with roommates in Vancouver which cuts the cost down a lot and it would be a great way to make friends. We LOVED going to the beach, hanging out, exploring, going to bars, etc. with our friends when we lived there. We don't want to discourage you from going there - lots of young people make it work. You might also LOVE Sydney, Australia too!

      That's awesome! It TOTALLY depends on what kind of vibe you align with (the neighbourhoods are pretty diverse) and of course, your budget, but based on what you've told us, I would recommend False Creek or Yaletown if you can afford it. Don't get me wrong though, there are still some really green areas in East Van as well. Hastings-Sunrise will offer you both of those things and is far more affordable, although a little out of the way from City Centre. You may also like Mount Pleasant. Hope this helps!

      Are we talking 2,500 CAD per month for spending money, rent, or is that the salary?
      If you're asking about a 2.5k monthly salary, we've certainly done it before, but it was very tight. When I was making less than 3k/month, I found it easier to live with roommates. At 3k/month, it was hard to find an apartment for less than 1,200/month (my budget) although I still managed to do it.

    They seem to skirt over the weather issue. Yes the climate is mild but the rain can be endless. I mean day after day, week after week at times. It is expensive to ski - they mention that- and going out is pricey unless you choose Asian style bistros which are excellent. Bit the rain. My sister and brother really do find it can be incredibly depressing. Vancouver Island is a lot cheaper and gets much less rainfall by the way which they don’t mention in the video.

    • @winn3289
      @winn3289 3 роки тому

      Depends on where you are on the island. There are very rainy areas there that get more rain than Vancouver for sure. I think Sydney and Victoria are the only places that get less. Everywhere else is the same or more. Port renfrew and Tofino probably get double the amount.

    • @nickandraychel
      @nickandraychel  3 роки тому +3

      We would echo everything that Wendy said and figured it should be important to add that it greatly depends on the person. I, personally, have been familiar with getting terrible depression during the freezing winter months in Southern Ontario... I'm much happier when I can get out and comfortably hike, be near the ocean, etc. and the drizzle doesn't bother me. So this video is, of course, based on our personal experiences. Different strokes for different folks! We're actually moving to the island for the winter (for the first time) so we'll see how it goes out there.

    I'm so sorry for Canada. Most things about a good Canada are not true, Including clean cities - beaches, and forests. It's a big lie. The first time I arrived in Vancouver in 2018, I was shocked. As soon as I left the airport door, I saw tissue, disposable glasses, and other garbage left in the city. The further I went, the more I saw them. Before I moved to Canada, I lived in Georgia, Armenia, Turkey, Serbia, The United States, and for a short time in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Netherland, Germany, and England, but I have never seen the amount of garbage that people leave in different Canadian cities. Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Quebec are no less than Vancouver. I'm so sorry for Canada. Canadian and Canadian Governments don't care about this tragedy. I think everything that says about Canada as a clean and powerful culture is not true. You don't need to travel to Canada to see this. Just watch some videos about walking in downtown Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Quebec. You will find the truth. Impossible for you to walk in a Canadian city and you don't see the dark side of that. Everywhere you will see garbage. You will never see this in Europe or the United States. This amount of waste is not even seen in Malaysian-Indonesian or Thailand cities. It is impossible for you to use public transport and not see a lot of garbage at stations or on the route. You will be surprised to find a lot of garbage even in the woods - by the rivers and on the beach.
