We're doing a requested video this week which is: what are the differences between living in British Columbia and living in Ontario. Ontario and BC are both lovely provinces to live in, and coming from two Canadians who have lived in both, we are weighing the pros & cons of living in Ontario and living in British Columbia. We talk about the main cities like Toronto, Ontario, Vancouver, BC and also many others. Vancouver vs. Toronto - life in Vancouver is very different than life in Toronto, yes, but we have much more to add than that. We also touch on the Kitchener-Waterloo area, the Okanagan (Kelowna, BC) and other cities like Sudbury ON and Prince George BC. We're sitting down in our ambulance conversion to dish it all. Very helpful and I appreciate hearing both sides, I was also curious regarding the people in both provinces...I’ve heard that BC has more of a “work to live” mentality whereas Ontario is more of a “live to work” mentality generally...would you agree with this? Do you find ppl in the Kelowna area are friendly? I’ve heard there’s some not nice people there...Thanks again for the input😊
Don't come to B.C.It has the shittiest medical system on the planet. You get better service in Mexico compared to this liberal nightmare. Don't even think about getting a family doctor out here, get used to walk in clinics and begging for appointments. There are no where near the amount of doctors needed and the medical support staff are rude and uncaring. The B.C. government doesn't care cause politicians have private coverage. Seniors struggle everyday to stay healthy and no one seems to care. Stay in Ontario. Enjoy your life. Vacation here if you feel to but don't live here.
@@andreaboros5921 Have fun paying the bills in British Columbia with a work to live mentality. In most BC municipalities the median income is $33,000 to $38,000. This province is a retirement mecca but not somewhere you want to go if you business and ambition
Great video and very good content. You guys cleared so many misconceptions of people who always try to compare these 2 provinces. I am based out in Burlington and used to work in downtown toronto, hated every moment travelling on GO. We are done with whole gta thing and trying to make a move towards Kingston , on.

I've lived in Ontario my whole life. Been to Calgary/Banff and that's about it. I've been thinking of moving out west. This video was perhaps one of the fairest and most thorough of its kind. Thank you both so much for this. I'm now a subscriber.;) Cheers

I'm so biased, but do it!!!! if you're doing it for nature and don't need hustle culture, fast paced city vibes.. it's amazing. Posted above with some more details on my perspective. I also took trips to banff/calgary growing up which were my intro to out west.

We absolutely loved this vldeo and all the information. This is a great way to learn and we honestly felt if this kinda thing was done for schools, everyone would kearn so much more as its relevant and interesting. We hope to move to Vernon or Middleton Mountain but it was still so great to put everything into perspective. I just have to get used to more grey skies as I prefer snow and blue skies or just hot weather.

So glad you enjoyed it! It's so funny that you say that because it kind of felt like a school project to make, lol! The Okanagan definitely has sunnier/chillier winters than the lower mainland, more like Ontario, but still milder. Personal opinion, but I actually think the Okanagan has the best all-around weather in Canada when it comes to having diverse seasons but still being bearable. It's a nice mix. It's so mild in Kelowna this year, it's actually weird! But we've had blue skies almost every day :)

Very informative. I have been planning to move to BC from Ontario. I currently live in Milton ON and can relate to your discription of life in the GTA. I and my wife are more outdoorsy and as you mentioned with the mountains and lakes allow more recreational opportunities. Thanks for the informative video, cant wait to move to BC as soon as I am able.

I’m currently living in a town 30 minutes away from Toronto, I love it here. I love Blue Jays and Raptors games, I go to a couple Jays games a year, never been to a Raptors game but I am a big fan! Crazy to say as a Canadian, I don’t like hockey 😓. I’ve never been to BC before, unless your talking about my 3 hour wait at the Vancouver airport to get back on the plane 🤣. Awesome video! Great video. I was born and raised in Toronto and moved out to the lower mainland 3 years ago.We moved in June 2020, in the midst of a global pandemic, and while we didn't move for this reason, the access to nature and outdoors year round felt life changing and life saving. Even when VERY grey (which i have my moments where i really would prefer colder/sunnier), we were able to access outdoors and hike and this will forever be valuable for me after coming from even just 3 months of Toronto lockdown.
What I miss: the multiculturalism/diversity and Toronto's food- but with that said, I'm living in Port Moody which is a suburb, and even as a former city kid (who lived my adult life at that point in a very central and busy part of Toronto) have found very little desire to go into the city. The pandemic changed me and my perspective, but so did BC. I also miss cottage culture, and road stops on highways. It took me over a year to start remembering to get a coffee BEFORE i got on the highway when travelling out of metro vancouver, because "who knows when you'll find a coffee shop, could be in 1 hour could be in 3" LOL. The things I miss and don't feel like trade offs to me in any way (but that's because I am clearly a BC'er in my heart).
TLDR: it's not that there isn't beauty in Ontario, but I think the key word is ACCESS. In Ontario, you sort of have either or: you live in a place with a lot of outdoor beauty without city amenities, or you live in the city far away from nature/beauty. In Ontario- or at least in Toronto, I found I had to be very intentional and go out of my way to access nature in a way I don't here. I can be in the city, hiking on a mountain, and jumping in the ocean on the same day and that too me will never get old. When i think of moving back to Ontario, I actually feel like i'd be unable to do it. I couldn't give up the Lifestyle... and that's really what the difference is, a difference in lifestyle.
But if you want fast paced city life and it's a Toronto vs. Vancouver thing.... honestly there is no comparison. They are completely different things. Come to Vancouver from the nature, go to Toronto for fast paced city, come to Vancouver if you want a much more laid back slower paced version of both. And if you like "hustle culture", then BC isn't for you. It's a slower pace here., even in a "big city" like Vancouver...and you truly feel it. Beaches are packed in summer on workdays. People value life over work. It's for you or its not.
Very interesting video guys. I've never been to BC but from the description that you guys have I would say your interpretation of Ontario is very accurate as I've been to almost every place youve said. Interested in moving out to BC as like you guys said it is a very outdoorsy culture and there's lots to do and things to see. If you were to rent instead of buy a house what would the rough estimate cost be to live in town or smaller city BC. For example citys like Barrie, orillia, sudbury, london

I grew up in the Okanagan, but lived in Ontario for many years. Your analysis is not bad! Of course, I live in the Yukon now, and love it.... Canada is a big place! There is something for everyone here.

Really good video guys ! I've been curious to know your point of view on this matter since I know you lived in both. Personally I prefer the cold and sunny winters than the grey skies but I just moved to Ottawa, Ontario from Belgium (same weather as Vancouver) so my opinion might change in the future. For now I love it ! Ottawa has more outdoorsy activities to offer and it's a lot less flat than Toronto, but it'll never be as good as the mountains of BC, that's for sure
Ottawa is such a cool city! I wish we could've talked more about it, but we've only ever visited, never lived there. Halifax is also a super dope city that has the beautiful landscapes as well as that sweet sweet sunshine. I love how central Ottawa is, though! ~ Raychel

@@nickandraychel Kelowna is awesome. I just spent a month working remotely from there on an EST time shift lol really enjoyed my time. Quick question, is the heat/forest fire season typical being a desert climate or was last year especially bad? I got there right after all of the fires went out in the area so I never saw the smoke but my friends who live there said it was quite bad

Thanks for this video. My husband just finished teacher’s college and we are trying to decide where to relocate. We’ve been living in the GTA in apartments for 16 years and can’t afford to live here. We also prefer less populous living surrounded by nature. So we’re looking into smaller, more remote towns across Canada. B.C. looks beautiful. Teacher pay is pretty low in B.C. but if there is an affordable town somewhere, we might consider it.
I don’t know what the pay is like but Nova Scotia is one of my favourite provinces and it’s more affordable too! Good luck in your search!
Great video guys, fair and balanced I thought, considering the size of each place.
I do have to disagree a little about Vancouver not having 4 seasons. And I think you overstated how grey it is. Although born and raised in Metro Vancouver, I’ve spent time living in Toronto and Ottawa, as well as 6 years in Northern BC and 5 in Kelowna. Vancouver doesn’t get the cold snowy winter the rest of Canada does, although it is available 20 to 30 minutes away by visiting any 3 of the local mountains, or Whistler 2 hours away. It’s not unusual to have a year with no snow in Vancouver, although you most likely will get one or two days that will paralyze the city and be the news headlines for a couple of days. A snow day in Vancouver is like the first snow of the season everywhere else, as I discovered living in the places that were guaranteed snow...it was like everyone collectively forgets how to snow drive. Lol
But Vancouver has a lovely warm not hot summer, that rarely gets too humid, a long fall season where in the cities large and small, it can be very colourful, with many trees giving a great show. True, the countryside is evergreen forest so that’s the big difference. There is a winter which is mild and wet, cloudy with showers being the most common forecast. And spring is a spectacular season because there are so many flowering trees and shrubs. Blocks and blocks of Vancouver lined with ornamental cherry trees, rhododendrons, and other vegetation that blooms at different times making for the blooming to start in February, and keep going through June. But even in the darkest wettest time of year, it’s not like that for 4 months straight, in almost every month, the clouds will part, and it will be beautiful and sunny for a day or two or a week, and the place changes immediately, sandals and tank tops will show up in January. And it’s like a summer switch is flipped in everyone’s brain. Then switched off the next day when the rain returns. Just thought I’d add that bit of colour commentary correction. Thanks guys.

Having lived in both Ontario, BC and now residing in the US, I can say that the two are very different, having a personality that naturally likes cities, I prefer Ontario.
BC Residents tend to be slightly more curious and nosy which can come across as very ignorant and rude, the weather is extremely hard for anyone to handle if you aren't habituated to constant grey weather from Oct until March. if city living is your thing, you will find Vancouver and Victoria to be very dull cities, nothing really to do. BC lacks big festivals and cultural events that make cities great to live in, add to that Low wages, high cost of living, higher than average taxes, it truly doesn't warrant anyone moving there. The Infrastructure is so frustrating, nothing seems to ever be operating well in BC, from BC Ferries to having red lights on major stretches of highway getting around can be a big pain. Lastly BC is pretty much riddled with weird political divisions, between the far left Islanders, the conservative bible belt Interior and valleys and the more Liberal city of Vancouver.

I lived forty years in Ontario, I wouldn't go back there if they told me I could live there for free. The humidity alone in the summer makes the place awful. I love Alberta, bc like Ontario is a money grab society.

Born in Sarnia Ontario I must say BC is the most beautiful province in Canada by far! This province as it all and some:) But your right the cost of living is too high.

If you're into the outdoors and don't mind the cost of living then maybe Vancouver is ok for you. I've lived in Vancouver for several years, Victoria for several years, Montreal for 3 and New York for 6 and I can say, as someone who prefers the energy of a city, Vancouver is extremely boring and tends to feel like the sun rarely shines. It's too easy to run across very unfriendly, angry people compared to everywhere else I've lived. I moved to Vancouver 20 years ago thinking I was escaping the small town of 14, 000 people I grew up in... I didn't... I just found a larger, far more expensive version of it, but didn't realize it until living in Montreal before moving to New York. Unless you're into slow and laid-back, into the outdoors lifestyle I don't recommend it because there's very little else.
The smoke in BC can get terrible during the summer. Some years depending where you are you don’t really get a summer because of how bad the smoke is. On those days it’s dark, stinky, and there’s ash everywhere. The air quality can become comparable to Beijing.
Very true. Living in Kelowna this summer was, at some points, unbearably hard.
As someone from Montreal, Quebec; I prefer Ontario over British Columbia due to cost of living being slightly cheaper in Ontario. I feel like Toronto is more lively and more American vibes than Vancouver without being in the U.S.A.
Lived in Toronto. Hated the cold weather, traffic, crowded conditions jammed with people and flat landscape. So temperature is a huge deal. I used to snow shovel every 3rd day from December to April. If you like big city options then Toronto is for you. If you want more nature stuff, b.c.is better fit.

Probably the interior! Kootenays / Okanagan region
I moved from toronto to Vancouver last year. Vancouver would win.. except for the grey wet weather. I'm not sure I can't live like this!! Maybe I need to start looking at other BC cities.
Depending on why Vancouver is otherwise winning, you should totally consider Kelowna!

Hello all, I grew up in small town Blind River Ontario and have traveled from end to end of it at the age of 18 I had the chance to leave and move to Lake Louise BC the best move I ever made. I have been back and forth about 10 since and every time I went backing was for family I have always made my way back to BC that is literally God's Country. I have now been in Westbank for 18 years and am now in Osoyoos. The okanagan is the most beautiful place in Canada to live might be costly but worth it. At this point no need to go back to Ontario been there done that.

I want to leave ontario. I don't know where to start I have a dog and cat, I was a dancer and lockdownd have destroyed my job. I now have nothing and I have a huge desire to just leave this place.. I'd have to drive there and I just don't know where to start, any tips would be helpful.
@@s.elizabeth1753 Ya come to Osoyoos, it's a good start I have an orchard out back. When I moved here 3 years ago I had nothing and started buy living out of my truck with two dogs till I found a job then I lived with the manager for 3 months till I got my place. I wasn't into credit cards so literally had no cash for furniture so it took a year to build my credit and buy all my furniture 25,000 worth. If you feel like a road trip I have a spare room. Good luck on your journey!

@@s.elizabeth1753 Ya were way ahead of the rest of Canada here. At the beginning of next month the mask restrictions are being lifted and looks pretty good from here on out.

Make the move before you have kids!
My retirement destination will likely be Chatham Ontario. It has mild winters, very little snow and reasonable prices for real estate. I was born in bc but lived in Ontario most of my life. I have been to bc many times but the prices are too high. I would rather buy more house for less money. Chatham is close to lake Erie. The lake keeps it warm. Chatham is too close to the lake to get lake effect snow.

I agree with you guys on most of what you said, except about the population. Yes southern Ontario has a lot of people, but the rest of Ontario does not especially in Northern Ontario where it vast and not highly populated.

A big difference many don't notice is people's behaviour in both provinces. Ontario is more conservative--socially and politically. More guns in Ontario, more military bases. You have to look at spiritually where does your heart belong. That's more important than gray skies or cold feet.
I think so but it really still depend on the specific city. Toronto is much more progressive/lib than Prince George, for example...

We work & save our money, then we travel with our savings, and then we do it all again! We usually work where we travel, for example, we're working & living in Kelowna right now. We worked in Cambodia & Australia when we were living there too. We have tons of videos on our channel about it and on our blog as well at notluxe.com :)

Vancouver didn't incorporate its surrounding cities as it grew. SO when you compare going from Surrey to Vanouver and Oakville to Toronto, it doesn't make sense, you might as well compare Scarborough to Toronto and imagine Scarborough wasnt part of Toronto. Metro vancouver is the 3rd largest population in Canada
Not even close. I'll take BC (excluding Vancouver and the lower mainland way overrated and expensive) or even Southern Alberta - Calgary- you can just drive to The big mountain parks to the west and the Eastern Koots to the SW. Eastern BC mountains and Alberta mountains are where they are at.
You have to keep in mind that Toronto GO trains are double-decker trains that are 10-12 cars long and Toronto subway trains are wide carriages that are 6 cars long. Whereas, Vancouver Skytrains are small, narrow 2-4 cars long shuttles.

Live in Ontario and have spent a lot of time in B.C. Southern Ontario is a poor representation of the province’s beauty. You can buy a slice of paradise in Ontario for far less than you can in B.C. Ontario has a lot of hidden gems that nobody knows about. B.C. felt like far more of a tourist trap to me.
Shockingly though Ontario is the most visited province by a landslide... Which just explains how BC and Vancouver internationally haven't reached the same height of notoriety as ON and QC
With 4% of land being arable land i don't think canada is that big honestly.i was shocked when I found out
ive lived in Vancouver my whole life and can say ONTARIO has way more beautiful cities and isnt all squeezed into one area like vancouver, the PEOPLE are better and actually represent REAL CANADA FRIENDLINESS and the more humid weather is better for the skin in ontario too.

It’s pretty nice by the river and the architecture is quaint and really pretty. Not too far from Kitchener or Hamilton so if you’re lacking anything in Cambridge they will have it nearby. But it’s a good sized city that has basically everything you need

Haha I moved back to Ontario twice after living in BC! But for the most part…. This is true.
I was born in Ontario, but have lived in BC for most of my adult life. The weather in B.C. SUCKS. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
It literally rains for 8 months of the year.
We have lived in both, grew up on Vancouver Island till 18 lived in Ontario 10 years, now in Nelson Bc for 3 years, come on no comparison we know the truth. Come on, driving across the country only one province has the word beautiful on their sign welcoming you. Shocker I will tell you it’s not Ontario
SHOCKER BC is the most beautiful but NOT even close to being the most visited. Nothing is more irritating than BC ignorance and arrogance packed into once ugly rainy poor province. Through my few years in BC i have never met so many miserable people in my life, seasonal depression is really bad and who can blame them it rains 8 months straight

Ive been wanting to move to BC but clearly cant afford BC Vancouver.. Wondering if you guys know some great cheaper places to live. Also if they have possibly more of the seasons than Vancouver that would be great as i do love the Ontario seasons. This video was also perfect and what ive been searching for !

basically,in BC the closer to the coast you get you politically find more left wing,the more north/central you find the right wingiest right wings
not enough highway? you know it's the advantage of a city to not be designed only for cars, if you've been in european cities you would notice how unlivable canadian cities are in terms of walkability and bike lanes.
At this time, I wouldn't live in either province. But if there is a nuclear war and most of the neanderthals are killed off in each province, id go with bc because its warmer in the winter.
